#1 There was no stopping the SMU Mustangs last night at Stanford Stadium Michael they were fired up to face the Stanford Cardinal and no one was anymore fired up than Mustangs quarterback Kevin Jennings who threw for three touchdowns.

#2 The 40-10 loss to the Mustangs was the second consecutive game where Cardinal were landslided the week before on Sat Oct 12 the Cardinal were crushed by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 49-7. No doubt Stanford’s defense has been struggling in the last two games.

#3 Jennings who threw for three touchdowns also was 17-27 and had 332 yards and it looked like he had all day to throw the football against the Stanford defense.

#4 Stanford coach Troy Taylor is concerned after Stanford has now lost four games in row, “It’s tough. It’s painful for everybody to lose when its not close at the end,” Taylor said. “You’re always concerned about it. But these are the most resourceful men I’ve been around.”

#5 Stanford is up against Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Stanford Stadium on Sat Oct 26th. Wake Forest are 3-4 and won their last game against the UConn Huskies in a close one 23-20. Can Stanford regroup and have a shot against Wake Forest with the Cardinal having home field?

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Raiders just couldn’t come up with any offense in second half in loss to Rams in LA 20-15; O’Connell out with thumb fracture

Antonio Pierce the Las Vegas Raiders head coach whose been getting a lot of criticism after the recent loses and the loss in Los Angeles Sunday against the Rams didn’t soothe matters much for coach Pierce. There was too much sputtering there were too many mistakes and the Raiders just couldn’t score a touchdown.

Aidan O’Connell who got injured early and left with a broken thumb saw back up Gardner Minshew come in and take over. For Minshew he threw 15-34 for 154 yards and was intercepted three times. The Raiders who trailed the Rams 14-6 going into the second half had a chance to take advantage but Minshew and the offense couldn’t create any scoring opportunities despite the Raiders defense holding the Rams to only six points in the second half.

Barracuda cruise past Wild 7-3 with second period onslaught, sweep series

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Barracuda scored five goals in the second period to route the Iowa Wild 7-3 on Sunday afternoon at Tech CU Arena.

San Jose swept the two-game series and has jumped out to a great start in the young season. Iowa remained defeated through their first four games.

San Jose (3-1-0) drew first blood early in the first period with an even strength goal. Anthony Vincent sent the puck back up to the point to Luca Cagnoni. The rookie defenseman skated in from the left wing and lasered in a wrist shot just inside the near post past Wild goalie Jesper Wallstedt for his second goal of the season at the 2:08 mark.

The Barracuda doubled its lead 24 seconds later. Collin Graf found Justin Bailey inside the Wild zone. Bailey skated in all alone and beat Wallstedt to the far side with a wrist shot for his first goal of the season at the 2:36 mark.

Iowa (0-4-0) answered back 35 seconds later. Micheal Milne sent a cross-ice pass over to Hunter Haight who buried a wrist shot past Cuda goalie Georgi Romanov for his first goal of the season at the 3:01 mark.

The Cuda regained their two-goal lead late in the second period thanks to a great individual play from Lucas Vanroboys in the neutral zone. Vanroboys collected a loose puck near the red line then skated around three Wild defenders before tucking the puck underneath the pads of Wallstedt inside the crease for his first goal of the season at the 13:23 mark.

San Jose went up 4-1 with a power play goal exactly two minutes later. Ethan Cardwell sent the puck from the left wing into the middle of the crease where Scott Sabourin redirected the puck past Wallstedt for his first goal of the season at the 15:23 mark.

Iowa cut the lead in half on the next shift. An odd man rush led to Cameron Crotty finding Haight in the left slot and Haight beat Romanov with a wrist shot to the short side for his second goal of the game at the 15:50 mark.

San Jose made Iowa pay on their next shift. Brandon Coe sent a backhanded pass through the crease to an unmarked Filip Bystedt in front of the crease and the Swedish center buried the puck into the back of the net for his second goal of the season at the 16:03 mark.

The Barracuda weren’t done yet as over a minute and a half later they increased their cushion by four goals. Colin White cleaned up a rebound off a shot from the point by Cagnoni for his second goal of the season at the 17:40 mark.

San Jose scored its fifth goal of the period when Ethan Frisch fired a slapshot from the left point past Wallstedt for his first goal of the season at the 18:07 mark. Donovan Houle picked up his second point of the game with the primary assist. That ended the night for Wallstedt as he gave up seven goals on 25 shots. Backup goalie Samuel Hlavaj replaced Wallstedt to start the third period.

The Wild scored its third goal at the halfway mark of the third period.

Romanov earned his first victory of the season as he stopped 36 of the 39 shots he faced. Hlavaj only faced five shots in the final 20 minutes and saved all five.

GAME NOTES: San Jose finished 1-for-3 on the power play. Iowa went 0-for-2.

San Jose is 10-4-2-0 all time versus the Wild including 6-1-2-0 at home.

The Three Stars of the Game were: 1) Sabourin 2) Haight 3) Cagnoni.

#1 Charlie talk about the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets who do battle in game 6 tonight at Dodger Stadium. The Mets avoided being eliminated on Friday night after they held back the Dodgers 12-6 to move within a game of LA 3-2.

#2 Game 6 tonight the Dodgers have for the most part in this series had the pitching that had command over the Mets. Like in games 1, 3 and 4. It’s when the Mets have those break out games they can score in bunches. Will the Dodgers pitching be one of the biggest factors for the Mets in this game 6?

#3 Turning to pro football the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers met for the first time since the Super Bowl. The Chiefs are came in hot undefeated and are now 6-0 and had the 49ers number Sunday with a ten point win 28-18. The Chiefs defense held off 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and the 49ers offense Sunday.

#4 The Las Vegas Raiders continue to struggle. Since former Raider Devante Adams expressed his unhappiness with the Raiders before moving onto the Jets the Raiders seems to have fallen in the doldrums. Las Vegas has lost their game against the Los Angeles Rams today at So Fi Stadium 20-15. Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew just couldn’t get any offense going 15-34 for 154 and was intercepted three times.

#5 The future Las Vegas A’s unveiled renderings this week for their new Bally’s ballpark for the Vegas Strip targeted for the 2028 season. With the Tropicana imploded and the A’s playing in the interim in Sacramento the fact still remains that A’s owner John Fisher still has not come up with his share of the $1.5 billion for the construction costs for the A’s Vegas park.

Sacramento A’s podcast with Daniel Dullum: Renderings released for A’s Vegas ballpark at Bally’s Casino location

On the Sacramento A’s podcast with Daniel Dullum:

#1 The A’s who revealed their renderings for their new ballpark in Las Vegas will integrate the park with Bally’s Casino Resort. The new renderings look like an armadillo park as it would open as separate shells and have windows to let sunlight in.

#2 There are three phases to the property which would include a hotel tower 1000 to 1500 rooms it would include a casino, sports book, and a food hall and 4500 parking spaces. The capacity will not surpass 3,000 rooms.

#3 The park structure will be 290 feet high and will have seating capacity of 30,000. The renderings also reveal where the dugouts and home and visiting locker rooms will be located as well as a 100 level seating section.

#4 There are rendering for the second deck the 200 level section, third deck 300 section, there is a layout for the 400 section level which are the suites. It keeps on going there are the 600 and 700 level seats which are upper level seating.

#5 Daniel, keep in mind that the intersection of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd is the busiest intersection in the world. The A’s ballpark will accommodate 44,000 parking spaces when you also factor in the other surrounding casinos parking structures as well but that’s not to mention that gridlock will be a sure thing and don’t be surprised if there are some fans who won’t get in there seats on time. Public transit in Vegas is not the most convenient option unless you leave at least two hours early.

Quakes can’t stop LAFC onslaught in 3-1 loss in last match of the season

The San Jose Earthquakes closed out a 2024 season they’ll certainly like to forget on the road against LAFC at BMO Stadium. With no implications really on the line for either team, it was difficult to know what to expect. LAFC is postseason-bound, and they’re essentially locked into the second seed in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Earthquakes are guaranteed to finish last in the MLS. LAFC took it to the Quakes with a two goal 3-1 win in the last match of the regular season.

Surprisingly, the Earthquakes got out to an early 1-0 lead off of a goal from Jackson Yueill in the ninth minute. Over the course of the first half, the Quakes were outplayed in terms of possession and total shots but LAFC wasn’t able to challenge the San Jose goalkeeper, Daniel. LAFC were getting shots off, but they weren’t able to get any on target in the first half which would undoubtedly change in the second 45 minutes. 

After a bit of hibernation in the first half, LAFC woke up hungry for the second half. They dominated the second half and Denis Bouanga scored an equalizer in the 68th minute from inside of the box. The Earthquakes were struggling, and those struggles only got worse after both sides made a few substitutions as they attempted to get the all-important second goal that would almost certainly decide the outcome of the game. 

In the 75th minute, LAFC took the lead off of a goal from midfielder Eduard Atuesta. The goal, which was assisted by Kei Kamara, gave the home side a 2-1 lead and put the Earthquakes in a situation which they were certainly familiar with this season, trailing late in a game. From there, LAFC continued attacking. They seemed determined not to let the visitors back into the match and there was clearly a massive difference in the talent levels of the two sides. 

The Quakes showed some signs of life late in the game but were unable to find an equalizer. Eventually, LAFC scored a third off of the head of Marlon Santos in extra time, putting the game out of reach for the Earthquakes. They fell to their California rivals 3-1 to end their 2024 MLS season. 

The San Jose Earthquakes’ final game of the season essentially summarized their entire season. They played well in the first half, but were unable to play with a lead and ultimately lost to a much better team. It’s a season that the organization and fans alike will certainly want to forget as quickly as possible. 

Dalhkemper’s goal at 83rd minute gets Bay FC 1-0 win over North Carolina

SAN JOSE–Bay FC played their final home game of their inaugural season on Saturday night, when they hosted the North Carolina Courage in a game with massive playoff implications for the home side. With Racing Louisville defeating the Portland Thorns with a last-minute goal, playoffs went from looking likely for Bay FC to them being in the middle of an intense fight.

As a result, Saturday’s game was a must win for the home team. Bay FC got the wining and only goal of the match when Abby Dahlkemper scored at the 83rd minute that defeated North Carolina 1-0.

Bay FC came out fighting right out of the gate. Considering their current predicament with the playoffs, this needed to be one of their strongest performances of the season and it seemed like they were up for the task early in the night.

Due to their desperation though, they were making some big mistakes as well. Costly turnovers in the defensive and middle thirds were giving possession back to their opposition and occasionally helping them create attacks of their own.

Katelyn Rowland had to make her first save of the night in the 15th minute, denying a long shot that nearly gave the Courage a 1-0 lead. Off of the ensuing corner, North Carolina hit the crossbar off of a header again nearly taking the lead.

Heading into the 18th minute, Bay launched a massive attack that led to multiple opportunities inside of the box but strong defending by the opposition eventually knocked it out for a corner kick. Ultimately, North Carolina would regain possession and get the ball out of the dangerous areas.

Despite Bay’s early attacks, they still struggled in the same way they have for a majority of the season: they couldn’t find the back of the net. They were generating quite a few chances, and nearly took the lead multiple times but weren’t able to.

In the 34th minute, Rowland gave the ball to an attacker right outside of the box but luckily for Bay FC, Abby Dahlkemper and Emily Menges were able to recover defensively and disrupt the play. Olivia Wingate had a scoring opportunity in the 39th minute for North Carolina but ended up putting the ball in the side-netting next to a diving Rowland.

Both Kerolin and Asisat Oshoala got a talking-to from referee Elijio Arreguin after an altercation along the sideline, but neither was shown a card. Oshoala was denied on a fantastic scoring opportunity in the 43rd minute, as Casey Murphy had to stretch out her body fully to get a hand on the shot and send it out for a corner.

Moments later, Tess Boade was taken down inside the box but no penalty was awarded to the dismay of the crowd at PayPal Park. After a single minute of stoppage time, the game would head to halftime tied 0-0.

Kiki Pickett would be shown the first yellow card of the game in the 61st minute which drew protest from both Boade and Oshoala. Oshoala was taken off for Rachel Hill in the 66th minute. Niarumi Miura and Meredith Speck were brought on in the 67th minute for North Carolina replacing Ashley Sanchez and Riley Jackson.

Boade created a strong scoring chance in the 72nd minute, but rather than shooting passed it to Kundananji. It resulted in a scramble, ultimately falling to Hill who shot it wide. Alyssa Malonson, who was recently named to the US Women’s National Team camp, got a header on target in the 75th minute but it was saved by Murphy.

Bay FC got a very dangerous free-kick in the 77th minute, but it was cleared out by the Courage who immediately went on a counter-attack with only two defenders back. Bay FC was able to take away space from the attackers and force the ball out for a goal-kick.

Even though a draw would keep Bay above Racing Louisville in the standings, they were desperately fighting to take the lead and walk away with the three points, rather than one. In the 82nd minute, Bay FC got another free-kick.

This one ended up on the boot of Dahlkemper who put it past Murphy, giving the home side a late 1-0 lead at the 83rd minute. In the 87th minute, Ryan Williams and Kundananji collided heads, leaving Bay FC’s striker on the ground in considerable discomfort.

She got up and walked off a few moments later, remaining in the game. Maddie Moreau came on in the 90th minute for Pickett, who high-fived fans as she walked off the pitch. With six minutes of stoppage time, Bay FC just needed to hold on a little longer to walk away with three points and put themselves in control of their own destiny in their final game in two weeks. Rowland made a save in the 95th minute, keeping her team ahead. Moments later, the final whistle would blow, and Bay FC walked away victorious, 1-0.

Utah Endures To The End With Third Overtime Victory, Edge Gritty Bruins 2-1 At Delta Center

SALT LAKE CITY–The Utah Hockey Club returned home Saturday night to face the Boston Bruins following the franchise’s first road trip which began with overtime victories in New York against the Islanders and Rangers before falling to the New Jersey Devils followed by an overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks. Utah scored five or more goals in each of their first three games of the season, and entered Saturday night’s contest with a 3-1-1 record placing them 3rd in the Central Division behind the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets.

If you like overtimes Utah is your Hockey Club as they came away with a razor edge victory over the visiting Bruins at the Delta Center 2-1 scoring the game winner in the overtime stanza.

Unlike Utah’s season opener against Chicago, where Blackhawks fans were relatively few and quiet, a noticeable contingent of yellow-clad Boston fans streamed into the Delta Center and within moments of the puck drop broke out into a “Let’s Go Bruins” chant.  The hometown fans would not have it and immediately drowned out the visitors shouting “UTAH!” following every “Let’s Go.”  On the ice, both teams traded chances throughout the opening period but returned to their locker rooms in a scoreless tie.

Boston’s Cole Koepke opened the scoring at 12:49 of the second period with a goal assisted by Brad Marchand as the throng of Bruins fans in attendance roared their approval.  Shortly afterward Utah appeared to tie things up on a blistering shot by Michael Kesselring, with the screaming hometown fans making it clear that they were in the majority, but play continued as if nothing had happened. During the period intermission, multiple angles of the play were displayed on the Jumbotron where one could see that the puck struck the post and flew along the goal line without crossing.

In the third period, Utah thought they had gotten the equalizer at 6:48, but the goal was reversed due to an offsides violation.  The two teams got chippier as the period wore on, with Utah goaltender Connor Ingram repeatedly standing on his head to keep his squad in the game. 

Finally at 14:51, defenseman Vladislalv Kolyachonok received a beautiful stretch pass from Nick Schmaltz and charged to the goal crease where he found the back of the net, with captain Clayton Keller also assisting.  Regulation play ended tied at one apiece, with Utah going to overtime for the fourth time in six games of the young season.

David Pastrnak of the Bruins gave Utah a gift 42 seconds into overtime, going to the sin bin with a tripping penalty against Clayton Keller.  Utah kept the pressure on Boston goaltender Jeremy Swayman during their 4-on-3 power play, and as the penalty expired and Pastrnak came out of the box, Michael Kesselring knocked in the game-winner unassisted to give UHC the 2-1 victory, keeping them perfect at home and 4-1-1 overall.  

After the game, Vladislav Kolyachonok talked about scoring his first Utah Hockey Club goal. “Yeah, it feels good. It’s a good team effort and a good pass. I think all the guys did a great job, so I appreciate the effort and work. It’s nice to get a nice result.” With regard to the team’s resiliency and coming back to win, Kolyachonok added, “I think it shows team character. We have lots of individuals on our team, lots of great players, and everybody supports each other on the bench. That’s what helped us to get a win.”

Michael Kesselring felt great about the game-winning goal, but offered particular praise of his teammates. “I thought everybody, all six defensemen, all forwards, we all bought in tonight. We managed the puck pretty well, and just bought in and got it done.”

Head coach André Tourigny commented on Kesselring’s overtime goal after having hit the post earlier in the game. “Yeah, he has a great shot. The big thing with Kesselring is to take that shot. I think he passed on two or three shots tonight. I think at some point he will understand that with a shot like that you don’t pass. You find a way to have more. He has a really good shot.”

With Saturday night’s win, Utah has beaten two of the Eastern Conference’s top teams over the past week. Their next game is Tuesday Oct 22 at the Delta Center against the Ottawa Senators.

Cardinal Stampeded by Mustangs 40-10 on an Early Saturday Evening on the Farm

STANFORD, Calif. — The Stanfords Cardinal (2-5, 1-3 ACC) had no resistance for the Southern Methodist University Mustangs (6-1, 3-0 ACC), as they ran free all over the Bay Area stadium and campus, 40-10, in front of a crowd of just under 20,000 fans.

SMU wasted no time with their onslaught of the Cardinal, with an immediate TD pass for 87 yards and a quick 7-0 lead. Redshirt sophomore QB Kevin Jennings hit senior receiver Moochie Dixon for the first play of the contest scoring effort. The Mustangs were not finished scoring in the initial quarter.

Nearly 10 minutes later, SMU mounted another scoring drive via the air. Jennings tossed his second TD pass to senior WR Key ‘Shawn Smith for a 45-yard TD. Less than three minutes later, Jennings throws his third touchdown (38) pass of the quarter, this time with elusive grace and maneuverability.

After escaping the rush, he connected with junior tight end R.J. Maryland. With less than two minutes left in stanza one, SMU led 21-0. The quarter ended with the same score; however both teams committed crucial penalties to end the first 15-minute black of the ACC battle.

The second quarter started ominously for the Cardinal. Freshman QB Elijah Brown threw an interception. Fortunately for them , the Mustangs did not capitalize o the miscue. A few minutes later, Stanford forced a fumble on their punt, they recovered the ball on SMU’s 46 yard line. Nothing resulted from that opportunity, but they had another chance less than two minutes later.

The hot-armed Kevin Jennings threw an egregious interception on his own 14-yard line. Stanford parlayed that into an eventual touchdown, and got off of the proverbial goose egg and brought the score to a respectable 21-7. Brown threw an 18-yard pass to redshirt sophomore WR Elic Ayomanor to put them on the scoreboard.

The problem was, the Mustangs were not finished scoring before recess. They actually added 10 more points to their tally before the midway point of the game. Redshirt junior running back L.J. Johnson Jr. scampered five yards to paydirt, increasing their lead to 28-7. At the halftime whistle junior kicker Collin Rogers booted a 51-yard FG. At the half, SMU led 31-7.

Mustangs’ QB Kevin Jennings had an impressive 30 minutes of play: 244 passing yards, 3 TDs & an INT. Elijah Brown threw for 45 yards, with a TD and INT.

In the second half, Stanford’s first drive stalled and they had to punt. Fortunately for them, SMU fumbled again on a punt return. Stanford was able to take advantage of the error and get points out of the turnover. Senior kicker Emmet Kenney converted a 42-yarder to bring the team within three touchdowns, 31-10. The score stayed the same after 45 minutes of regulation, but Stafford sacked Jennings right at the end of quarter number three.

The Dallas Area Equines had an interesting start to the fourth quarter. They missed a field goal attempt and intercepted a pass within the first minute of the final quarter. Less than three minutes later, they had Stanford penned down on their own goalline, and the inevitable happened. Elijah Brown was sacked in the endzone for a safety. Two more points on the docket for the Mustangs, and they led 33-10 with nearly 12 minutes left in the game.

For good measure and to have a nice round number on the scoreboard, the visitors from Texas added another touchdown to their already impressive total. 40-10, with 5:03 left in the game, on a 2-yard plunge by L.J. Johnson, for his second rushing TD.

#1 The New York Yankees have advanced to the World Series with a 5-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians in game five at Progressive Field in Cleveland. It’s the 41st time the Yankees have been to the World Series.

#2 The Yankees Juan Soto hit a three run home run in the top of the tenth inning which proved to be the game winner. The Yankees have been fortunate to figure out how to win games when behind.

#3 It was quite a series as the Yankees have dominated winning 4-1. The Yankees took the first two games of the series and the Guardians won game 3 but the Yankees never looked back winning games 4 and 5. The Yankees got some clutch hitting in the series and Saturday night was no different with Soto’s three run blast.

#4 Giancarlo Stanton has been a hitter in the post season for New York he hit a 446 foot home run that landed in the leftfield stands and tied the game up in the second inning. Talk about how big Stanton has been for the Yankees.

#5 The Yankees are in they’ll face either the Los Angeles Dodgers or New York Mets either way it’ll be a big market World Series just what the doctor ordered as there is no doubt MLB has got to be very happy about how things turned out.
