SAN JOSE — Simon Becher had only scored two goals throughout the 2026 season.

Becher doubled his goal total with a brace as St. Louis CITY defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 on Saturday evening at PayPal Park.

San Jose has lost three out of its last four matches and has only earned one point since coming out of the World Cup break. St. Louis CITY has won five of its past six matches and have earned points in 10 consecutive matches.

St. Louis CITY (8-6-5-29 points) drew first blood in the eighth minute. Sang Bin Jeong found Conrad Wallem inside the box. Wallem centered the ball into the middle where Daniel Edleman beat Quakes goalie Angus Gunn with a one-timer to the right corner for his third goal of the season.

It was another slow start for San Jose (10-6-3-33 points) as they found themselves chasing the game early in the match. They have conceded the first goal in three of its past four matches.

CITY doubled its lead off of a set piece in the 27th minute. Eduard Löwen sent in a corner kick perfectly to an unmarked Simon Becher who headed the ball past Gunn for his second goal of the season. San Jose was caught flat footed as Becher was able to get behind Quakes fullback Daniel Munie for the easy goal.

The Earthquakes had an uninspiring first half as they played on the heels defending St. Louis’ attack in the opening 45 minutes.

San Jose responded right away to start the second half by cutting their deficit in half. Timo Werner’s free kick into the box was headed out by CITY defender Timo Baumgarti. Quakes midfielder Beau Leroux one-timed the ball out of midair and past CITY goalkeeper Roman Burki for his third goal of the season in the 47th minute.

St. Louis regained its two-goal lead in the 55th minute. A long ball was chased down by Tomas Totland down the left wing. Totland calmly centered the ball into the middle of the box where a crashing Becher one-timed the ball into the back of the net with a high right footed shot to record his brace and fourth goal of the season.

Tempers flared late in the match when Wellem made a hard foul against Werner as he pushed him out of bounds along the sideline in the 78th minute. A skirmish ensued with players pushing and shoving. Wellem was issued a yellow card.

The Quakes weren’t able to muster any more offense the rest of the match as St. Louis controlled the possession and the scoring chances in the final 10 minutes of the match.

Burki finished with one save on the two shots on target to earn the victory. Gunn had four saves on seven shots in the losing effort.

Despite a strong showing in the first 75 minutes of their game against FC Cincinnati, the San Jose Earthquakes found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory late losing to the FC Cincinnati 4-2 at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati Saturday.

Daniel Munie opened the scoring for the Earthquakes in the 26th minute off of an assist from star forward Timo Wener. Munie’s goal, his fourth of the season, gave the Quakes an early lead, but it wouldn’t last very long. Just seven minutes later, Bryan Ramirez tied things up for FC Cincinnati with his first goal of the 2026 campaign.

The game remained deadlocked at a goal apiece heading into the half-time break, but the Quakes’ German superstar, Timo Werner, scored his fifth goal and second goal contribution of the night, to give San Jose another lead in the 56th minute.

That’s how things would remain for roughly 20 minutes, but Tom Barlow’s sixth goal of the season evened things up for Cincinnati in the 79th minute. Just like that, the Earthquakes had dropped from sole-possession of the top spot in the Western Conference to even on points with LAFC and the Vancouver Whitecaps, but that wouldn’t last long either.

Then in the 95th minute, Ayoub Jabbari added another dagger, securing a 4-2 victory for Cincinnati. With just over 10 minutes remaining, it seemed that the Earthquakes would be walking away from their trip to Ohio with three points, instead, they left with nothing and fell to third place in the Western Conference.

The Earthquakes dominated the first 10 minutes of the second half with chances from Timo Werner and Benji Kinkanovic. A shot from Werner from the left wing was stoned away by Marcinkowski in the 50th minute. Then in the 54th minute the former Quakes goalkeeper stopped a header attempt by Kikanovic.

The San Jose Earthquakes were back on the road on Saturday night, as they visited the Portland Timbers at Providence Park. The Quakes got plenty of help from Preston Judd who scored two goals in the Quakes 3-1 win over the Timbers.

The Quakes opened the scoring quickly, as Judd scored his 10th goal of the season in the second minute and hit double digits in scoring for the first time in his career. Jack Skahan placed the ball at Judd’s feet right at the edge of the 18-yard box and he fired the ball into the back of the net to give the Earthquakes a 1-0 lead very early on.

Ten minutes later, Nick Fernandez forced a turnover with a strong tackle on the ball. He then found Judd in quite a bit of space, and Judd scored his second of the night, putting him on hat-trick watch just 12 minutes into the match. The Timbers would answer back pretty quickly, as after a free kick, the Timbers went on the offensive. Eventually the ball found its way to Antony in quite a bit of space, and he put it into the goal and cut the Earthquakes’ lead to a single goal.

Just six minutes later, Daniel Munie would restore San Jose’s two goal lead and set a new career high with his third goal of the campaign. Off of a corner, a quick passing play found its way to Munie’s foot right in front of the goal and he put it away, making it a 3-1 game.

Sarver’s late goal gives FC Dallas dramatic 3-2 win over Earthquakes

SAN JOSE — Samuel Sarver scored the game winning goal in the third minute of stoppage time as FC Dallas took down the San Jose Earthquakes 3-2 on Saturday evening at PayPal Park.

San Jose has lost two matches in a row for the first time all season. FC Dallas has won three of its past four matches.

FC Dallas (6-4-4-22 points) struck first in the match’s opening minute thanks to poor ball management by San Jose. Back-to-back turnovers inside their third of the pitch by Beau Leroux and then a bad clearing attempt by Benji Kikanovic led to Patrick Delgado beating Quakes goalkeeper Daniel with a left-footed shot in the right corner of the net for his second goal of the season.

“The last two games we positioned ourselves to walk off the field with a point and failed to finish out the games properly,” said Quakes head coach Bruce Arena.

San Jose (9-3-2-29 points) responded in the 18th minute. Ousseni Bouda crossed the ball into the middle of box that was headed away by a FC Dallas defender. Midfielder Beau Leroux one-timed the ball out of midair high into the right corner of the net that goalkeeper Johnathan Sirois could only watch for Leroux’s secodn goal of the season.

The Earthquakes didn’t capitalize on a chance to take lead the in the 42nd minute when they were awarded a penalty kick after Ian Harkes was tripped up inside the box by FC Dallas defender Osaze Urhoghide two minutes earlier. Leroux’s penalty attempt was stoned away by Sirois with a diving save to the right.

FC Dallas jumped out of the gate to start the second half as they regained the lead in the 49th minute. Herman Johansson sent a ball into the box retrieved by an unmarked Petar Musa. The Croatian striker needed just one touch before blasting a shot past Daniel for his team-leading 12th goal of the season.

The Quakes had many set pieces throughout the match but were only able to capitalize on one of them which left the team frustrated at the end of the match when all said was done.

“Overall, it’s just a frustrating game, especially with the way it ended,” said Quakes captain Ronaldo Vieira. “I think everybody felt like this was at least a game where we should’ve walked away with a point, similar to the Seattle game with the set pieces.”

San Jose scored the equalizer on a set piece in the 81st minute. Bouda’s corner kick into the middle of the box pinballed around and off of the knee of Ried Roberts for his first goal of his MLS career. It was a bit of redemption for Roberts who had left Musa unmarked on his goal earlier in the half.

Sirios finished the match with six saves on eight shots on target to earn his fifth victory of the season. Daniel made seven saves on 10 shots on target in the losing effort.

“We’re at the end of both games where we have a point, and if we lock it down, we walk off the field with a point in both games. That’s how a good, experienced team deals with both of these games, and we failed to do that,” Arena said.

GAME NOTES: San Jose finished with 12 corner kicks. FC Dallas had four.

The Earthquakes’ all-time regular season record vs. Dallas is now 31-23-23 (121 GF, 98 GA) and 18-9-13 (69 GF, 49 GA) at home.

The Earthquakes sold out PayPal Park for the third time this season and in back-to-back matches (March 15 vs. Seattle, May 9 vs. Vancouver, May 16 vs. Dallas).

The Quakes started eight American players tonight. No team in MLS has averaged more of them in the starting 11 more across all competitions in 2026 than Bruce Arena’s Earthquakes (7.7/game). Arena also started nine former college players tonight; no team in MLS has more of them on the roster (19).

Chris Wondolowski, MLS’ all-time leading scorer in regular-season play with 171 goals, was honored at halftime for his May 1 induction into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
