The San Jose Earthquakes were back on the road on Saturday night, as they visited the Portland Timbers at Providence Park. The Quakes got plenty of help from Preston Judd who scored two goals in the Quakes 3-1 win over the Timbers.

The Quakes opened the scoring quickly, as Judd scored his 10th goal of the season in the second minute and hit double digits in scoring for the first time in his career. Jack Skahan placed the ball at Judd’s feet right at the edge of the 18-yard box and he fired the ball into the back of the net to give the Earthquakes a 1-0 lead very early on.

Ten minutes later, Nick Fernandez forced a turnover with a strong tackle on the ball. He then found Judd in quite a bit of space, and Judd scored his second of the night, putting him on hat-trick watch just 12 minutes into the match. The Timbers would answer back pretty quickly, as after a free kick, the Timbers went on the offensive. Eventually the ball found its way to Antony in quite a bit of space, and he put it into the goal and cut the Earthquakes’ lead to a single goal.

Just six minutes later, Daniel Munie would restore San Jose’s two goal lead and set a new career high with his third goal of the campaign. Off of a corner, a quick passing play found its way to Munie’s foot right in front of the goal and he put it away, making it a 3-1 game.

Reid Roberts and Benji Kikanovic both picked up yellow cards late in the first half, but the Quakes carried their lead into the halftime break.

Ian Harkes and Jack Jasinski entered the game for the Earthquakes to start the second half, taking the place of Kikanovic and Fernandez. In the 51st minute, Kamal Miller got Portland’s first yellow card of the night. Then, new signing Darius Johnson entered the game for the Quakes in the 63rd minute, making his debut for San Jose.

Ronaldo Vieira was shown a yellow card in the 73rd minute for a foul on Kristoffer Velde. Then San Jose’s goalkeeper Daniel would earn the final yellow card of the night in the 85th minute. Ultimately, they would maintain their lead through the entirety of the second half, as the Earthquakes walked away with a 3-1 victory over Portland.

The San Jose Earthquakes were up in the Rocky Mountains on Wednesday night as they visited the Colorado Rapids as a part of the U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals. The Quakes couldn’t get enough offense as they were shutout by the Colorado Rapids 2-0.

Colorado seemed to get out to an early lead, as the ball found the back of the net in the 20th minute off of the foot of Rafael Navarro but the play was ruled offside and the game remained tied at 0-0.

Eventually the Rapids would get their go-ahead goal though, as Darren Yapi’s perfectly placed header connected off of a cross which made the ball sail into the netting, giving Colorado a 1-0 lead late in the first half.

The Rapids were then awarded a penalty late in stoppage time of the first half due to a handball by Reid Roberts. After being denied his previous goal due to offside, Navarro stepped up to the penalty spot and put the ball past Daniel to double Colorado’s lead before halftime.

Roberts came out of the game to start the second half, with Dave Romney taking his place. Paul Marie was the next player to exit the game for the Quakes, being replaced by Jack Skahan in the 62nd minute.

As the game progressed, the Earthquakes made more changes. Nick Fernandez entered the game in the 72nd minute for Preston Judd, then Ronaldo Vieira exited for Jack Jasinski in the 86th.

The Earthquakes offense failed to break Colorado’s clean sheet, and they were eliminated from the U.S. Open Cup with a final score of 2-0.

Sarver’s late goal gives FC Dallas dramatic 3-2 win over Earthquakes

SAN JOSE — Samuel Sarver scored the game winning goal in the third minute of stoppage time as FC Dallas took down the San Jose Earthquakes 3-2 on Saturday evening at PayPal Park.

San Jose has lost two matches in a row for the first time all season. FC Dallas has won three of its past four matches.

FC Dallas (6-4-4-22 points) struck first in the match’s opening minute thanks to poor ball management by San Jose. Back-to-back turnovers inside their third of the pitch by Beau Leroux and then a bad clearing attempt by Benji Kikanovic led to Patrick Delgado beating Quakes goalkeeper Daniel with a left-footed shot in the right corner of the net for his second goal of the season.

“The last two games we positioned ourselves to walk off the field with a point and failed to finish out the games properly,” said Quakes head coach Bruce Arena.

San Jose (9-3-2-29 points) responded in the 18th minute. Ousseni Bouda crossed the ball into the middle of box that was headed away by a FC Dallas defender. Midfielder Beau Leroux one-timed the ball out of midair high into the right corner of the net that goalkeeper Johnathan Sirois could only watch for Leroux’s secodn goal of the season.

The Earthquakes didn’t capitalize on a chance to take lead the in the 42nd minute when they were awarded a penalty kick after Ian Harkes was tripped up inside the box by FC Dallas defender Osaze Urhoghide two minutes earlier. Leroux’s penalty attempt was stoned away by Sirois with a diving save to the right.

FC Dallas jumped out of the gate to start the second half as they regained the lead in the 49th minute. Herman Johansson sent a ball into the box retrieved by an unmarked Petar Musa. The Croatian striker needed just one touch before blasting a shot past Daniel for his team-leading 12th goal of the season.

The Quakes had many set pieces throughout the match but were only able to capitalize on one of them which left the team frustrated at the end of the match when all said was done.

“Overall, it’s just a frustrating game, especially with the way it ended,” said Quakes captain Ronaldo Vieira. “I think everybody felt like this was at least a game where we should’ve walked away with a point, similar to the Seattle game with the set pieces.”

San Jose scored the equalizer on a set piece in the 81st minute. Bouda’s corner kick into the middle of the box pinballed around and off of the knee of Ried Roberts for his first goal of his MLS career. It was a bit of redemption for Roberts who had left Musa unmarked on his goal earlier in the half.

Sirios finished the match with six saves on eight shots on target to earn his fifth victory of the season. Daniel made seven saves on 10 shots on target in the losing effort.

“We’re at the end of both games where we have a point, and if we lock it down, we walk off the field with a point in both games. That’s how a good, experienced team deals with both of these games, and we failed to do that,” Arena said.

GAME NOTES: San Jose finished with 12 corner kicks. FC Dallas had four.

The Earthquakes’ all-time regular season record vs. Dallas is now 31-23-23 (121 GF, 98 GA) and 18-9-13 (69 GF, 49 GA) at home.

The Earthquakes sold out PayPal Park for the third time this season and in back-to-back matches (March 15 vs. Seattle, May 9 vs. Vancouver, May 16 vs. Dallas).

The Quakes started eight American players tonight. No team in MLS has averaged more of them in the starting 11 more across all competitions in 2026 than Bruce Arena’s Earthquakes (7.7/game). Arena also started nine former college players tonight; no team in MLS has more of them on the roster (19).

Chris Wondolowski, MLS’ all-time leading scorer in regular-season play with 171 goals, was honored at halftime for his May 1 induction into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

UP NEXT: San Jose returns to U.S. Open Cup play on Wednesday when they take on the Colorado Rapids in the quarterfinals at 7:00pm at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park.

SAN JOSE–The San Jose Earthquakes were back on the road on Wednesday night, as they headed to Seattle for a midweek match against the Sounders.

Nick Fernandez got the Earthquakes on the board quickly, as the Sounders turned the ball over near their goal to Nonso Adimabua who found Fernandez in front of the goal. As a result, the Quakes were up 1-0 in the second minute of the match.

Despite testing the San Jose Earthquakes’ goalkeeper Daniel quite a bit throughout the first half, it took the Sounders until the 43rd minute to find an equalizer. Dave Romney was called for a foul inside the Quakes’ box, sending Albert Rusnak to the penalty spot. Rusnak beat Daniel and tied the game at a goal apiece. Reid Roberts was shown a yellow card in stoppage time.

Ultimately, the game went into halftime as a 1-1 draw.

The Quakes made a pair of changes to start the second half, with leading scorer Preston Judd entering the match alongside Ousseni Bouda.

In the 55th minute, Seattle midfielder Jesus Ferreira ran from his own half into the San Jose penalty area. He danced around the Earthquakes’ defender and beat the goalkeeper to give the Sounders their first lead of the night.

The Sounders defense seemed to be holding up in the 69th minute, but a shot was blocked right to the feet of Judd who tied the game once again.

The Earthquakes would ultimately lose the game in heart breaking fashion though, as Osaze De Rosario scored a header in the 89th minute to put the Sounders back on top.

With the loss, the Earthquakes now sit second in the Western Conference trailing the Vancouver Whitecaps on goal differential.

SAN JOSE — In a battle for the top spot in the Western Conference, the San Jose Earthquakes and the Vancouver Whitecaps battled to a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening at PayPal Park.

San Jose extended its point streak to eight matches. Vancouver extended its point streak to six matches.

San Jose (9-1-2-29 points) drew first blood int he fourth minute. Paul Marie, who made his first start for head coach Bruce Arena, threaded a pass out to Preston Judd in stride inside the box. The veteran forward one-timed the ball into the right corner of the net past Whitecaps goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka for his team leading eighth goal of the season.

Vancouver (8-1-2-26 points) had a chance to even the match in the 29th minute when midfielder Jeevan Baldwal had a point-blank shot all alone inside the six-yard box, but Quakes goalkeeper Daniel knocked the ball away from danger.

Benji Kikanovic was issued a yellow card in the 36th minute after a ticky-tack foul was called on him just outside the box. Daniel was then also issued a yellow card for arguing the call with referee Malik Badawi.

Despite controlling the possession battle by a two-thirds to one margin and outshooting San Jose 6-2, Vancouver wasn’t able to generate many quality scoring chances in the opening 45 minutes.

Vancouver came out with vengeance in the second half as the dominated play from the opening minute all the way till stoppage time. They controlled the possession and kept the Quakes from counterattacking as they won the majority of the 50/50 balls. San Jose had a tough time dealing the Whitecaps physicality as the match ensued.

Daniel came up with three big saves in a span of three minutes. First in the 55th minute he knocked away a shot from 15 yards by Andres Cubas after being setup by Emmanuel Sabbi. Then in 57th minute he stoned away back-to-back chances inside the box by Bruno Caicedo and Badwal.

Vancouver finally broke through with the equalizer in the 76th minute. Sabbi found Sebastian Berhalter all alone along the right side of the box and Berhalter finished off a right-footed shot past Daniel for his fourth goal of the season, tied for second on the team with Tomas Muller who sat out the match with an illness.

The San Jose Earthquakes looked to continue their hot start to the MLS season on Saturday morning as they visited Toronto F.C. north of the border forcing a 1-1 draw at BMO Stadium in Toronto.

Toronto didn’t wait long to put pressure on the Earthquakes, as Daniel Salloi was able to beat the Earthquakes goalkeeper, Daniel, with a shot from inside the box less than two minutes into the game.

Preston Judd scored his seventh goal of the season for the Earthquakes in the 14th minute to even things up at a goal apiece. Beau Leroux was shown the first yellow card of the afternoon in the 17th minute. Ronaldo Vieira was shown a yellow card in the 37th minute after a challenge from behind.

The game remained tied 1-1 heading into the halftime break.

Niko Tsakiris left the game in the 54th minute with an apparent injury. Nick Fernandez entered the game in his place.

The Earthquakes got away with an apparent handball in the 62nd minute, but there was no review and play continued. Judd nearly scored a second goal in the 65th minute, but the play was immediately called offside.

Toronto thought they took a lead in the dying moments of the game, but a sliding Reid Roberts kept the ball from crossing the goal line, keeping the game tied at a goal a piece. The play was reviewed, but the call was confirmed that there was no goal on the play.

Despite an abundance of scoring chances by both sides, neither team could break the deadlock and it would end in a 1-1 tie.

The Earthquakes will return home next weekend Sat May 9th as they take on the Vancouver Whitecaps.

SAN JOSE–Preston Judd recorded his second brace of the season during a five-goal second half offensive explosion by the San Jose Earthquakes in a convincing 5-1 blowout victory over Austin FC on Wednesday evening at PayPal Park.

San Jose continued its best start in franchise history with its eighth win in nine games and went atop of the Western Conference standings with 24 points. Austin has lost two out of its past three matches.

Austin (1-4-4) drew first blood in the ninth minute. A giveaway by San Jose led to Joseph Rosales firing a shot off of Quakes goalkeeper Daniel and into the upper corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

San Jose (8-1-0) responded with scoring chances led by German superstar Timo Werner. Werner had two shots from the left side of the box in the 11th and 14th minutes only to have Austin goalkeeper Brad Stuver stone away both chances.

Despite being down a goal in the opening 45 minutes, San Jose dominated the first half with seven scoring chances inside the box. They outshot Austin 13-4 and had a xG of 1.28 compared to 0.45 for Austin.

The Earthquakes carried the momentum they had in the first half at the start of the second half creating quality scoring chances including a header from Jack Jasinski that hit off the right post in the 57th minute.

San Jose finally hit paydirt a minute later off of a set piece. Werner’s corner kick sailed right into the middle of the box where an unmarked Jasinski headed the ball past Stuver for his first career MLS goal in the 58th minute.

The San Jose Earthquakes were on the road on Saturday evening, as they visited Sporting Kansas City in Kansas City, Kansas. The Quakes entered the night undefeated on the road and in the midst of an incredible start to the season overall. The Quakes improved their start of the season to a 6-1-0 record with the 3-1 defeat of Sporting KC.

Sporting Kansas City got out to an early lead, as Jacob Bartlett, their hometown kid, was able to beat Daniel to score his first career MLS goal in the 27th minute after a perfectly placed ball by Dejan Joveljic. The 20-year-old midfielders’ first goal, although against the Earthquakes, was a heartwarming moment as he was able to score at the same stadium that he grew up attending to watch matches in his youth.

Jack Skahan evened things up with his first goal since the 2024 season in the 44th minute.

There was a brief halt in play during stoppage time of the first half, as the lights in the stadium shut off momentarily, but play quickly resumed. The game would remain tied heading into halftime.

Skahan scored his second of the night in the 49th minute, making it his first career multi-goal game and the first multi-goal season of his career.

Kansas City’s Shapi Suleymanov picked up the first yellow card of the night in the 54th minute.

Defender Dave Romney would extend the Earthquakes’ lead in the 75th minute. The goal was his first as a member of the Quakes, and first overall since 2023 when he was a member of the New England Revolution. Ironically, both his lone goal with the Revolution and his goal on Saturday occurred with Bruce Arena on the sideline.

The Earthquakes held onto their lead and walked away with a 3-1 victory on the road. The win secured the Quakes second place in the Western Conference for the time being, as they trail only the Vancouver Whitecaps due to a tie breaker

Tsakiris’ brace powers Earthquakes over San Diego FC 3-0

SAN JOSE — Niko Tsakiris made franchise history by joining some select company.

The San Jose Earthquakes midfielder recorded his first career brace as the Quakes dominated from start to finish in a 3-0 rout of San Diego FC on Saturday evening at PayPal Park.

San Jose has won two games in a row and five of their first six matches for its best start in franchise history. San Diego suffered its first loss of its MLS campaign after starting the season undefeated with points in its first five matches.

San Jose (5-1-0) struck first early in the first half. Preston Judd intercepted a back pass and quickly found Tsakiris along the left wing. The 20-year-old fifth year player dribbled into the box before roofing a left footed shot into the back of the net as a San Diego defender closed in on him for his first goal of the season in the 13th minute.

San Diego’s (3-1-2) high scoring attack had limited possession throughout the match as the pitch was tilted inside their defensive zone thanks to San Jose’s high press attack that kept the ball from the feet of Anders Dyers and leading goal scorer Marcus Ingvartsen.

The match quickly went south for SDFC when fullback Manu Duah pushed down Judd from behind after he made a move to get around Duah inside the box in the 28th minute. Referee Fotis Bazakos awarded a penalty kick to San Jose. After a VAR review, it was determined that Duah never made a play for the ball resulting in a red card and automatic ejection. San Diego played a man down for the final 62 minutes of the match.

Tsakiris completed his brace when slammed home the penalty kick into the upper right corner of the net beating his fellow Under-23 U.S. Men’s National Team teammate SDFC goalkeeper Duran Ferree in the 34th minute.

Tsakiris became the second youngest player in franchise history to record a brace. The youngest just happens to be the greatest American born soccer player ever in Landon Donovan.

The Earthquakes made it 3-0 just before halftime when Beau Leroux centered the ball from down the left sideline into the middle of the box where Judd one-timed it into the right corner of the net for his team leading third goal of the season in the third minute of stoppage time.

In the second half, San Jose took advantage of being up a man as they continued to create chances and kept the ball out of danger as head coach Bruce Arena subbed out five of his starters for a more defensive oriented lineup.

Quakes goalkeeper Daniel needed to make just one save to record his fifth clean sheet of the season. To date, Daniel has only conceded one goal on the season. Ferree kept the match from being a bigger blowout as he made seven saves on 10 shots on target in the losing effort.

GAME NOTES: San Jose finished with seven corner kicks. SDFC had five.

UP NEXT: San Jose travels out to the Midwest as they take on Sporting Kansas City on Saturday April 11 at 5:30pm at Sporting Park.
