Oakland A’s podcast with Jerry Feitelberg: A’s need every win they can get as Angels open series with comeback win on Tuesday

On the Oakland A’s podcast with Jerry:

#1 Stranger things have happened in baseball, but a fan interfered with the bags juiced in the sixth inning on Tuesday night. The A’s right fielder Stephen Piscotty chased the Angels’ Andrelton Simmons fly ball in the corner at the high wall near the warning track a fan reached over with her glove and deflected the ball the ruling was no fan interference, which at that point going forward, the A’s could not score a run with the Angels leading 7-4.

#2 Talk about that top half of the sixth where the Angels rallied from being down 4-1 adding six runs to catch the A’s and score three runs and two hits off reliever Lou Trivino for a blown save for Trivino.

#3 Despite the Angels not being in the postseason and needing possible surgery for the throwing arm, the Angels’  Shohei Ohtani in DH hit one for two with a run scored and a .291 average and will be on the DH for the rest of the season.

#4 The A’s, who have been depending on the bullpenning, had some great outings from the staff before the six Angel runs in the sixth from Liam Hendriks, Daniel Mengden, Sean Kelly, and Ryan Butcher.

#5 The A’s have lost four of their last five games setting them back behind the AL Wild Card first place team the New York Yankees. The A’s coming into Wednesday night’s game is at a three-game losing steak.

San Francisco Giants podcast with Michael Duca and Morris Phillips: Belt sent back to S.F.–done for season as knee surgery needed; Giants headed for St. Louis

On the Giants podcast with Michael and Morris:

The Giants, at the rate that they’re playing, would settle for 81-81 right now and that’s who they are right now, but what people forget is they lost 98 games last year. Even if they wind up losing 84 this year, that’s a 14-game improvement, and if you project that forward, if they can do that again next year, they can get 92 wins.

It’s interesting the Giants were looking for a lot of improvement that was the whole impetus of keeping the whole ball club together and of course they come up 14, 15 games better, which is what most teams will do, but it’s not going to get them in the playoffs.

The Giants kept the folder of contracts together. The team was never together. They had their projected starting eight-plus their Opening Day starter for one game all year this year. It just never pulled together, as health was an issue.

The Giants announced that the first baseman Brandon Belt is done for the season and is headed back to San Francisco from San Diego and that’s from the knee that’s going to require surgery in the offseason. The Giants hope to play spoiler in St. Louis starting with a Friday night game to open a three-game series with the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

Headline Sports with London Marq: Garoppolo, 49ers look to avoid the INT Sunday; Halos look to be spoilers as A’s chase Yanks; Raiders drop to 0-2 in close battle with Denver; Quakes make a coaching change; plus more

On Headline Sports with London:

#1 The A’s battle the LA Angels this week and the Angels want to be spoilers and try and set the A’s chase of the New York Yankees in the AL Wild Card a peg or two.

#2 The Oakland Raiders played a nail-biter on Sunday, but lost to the Denver Broncos just by one point. Derek Carr looked and threw well, but the Raiders tried as hard as they could and lost their second game of the season, dropping them now to 0-2.

#3 With all the losses mounting, the San Jose Earthquakes fired head coach Mikael Stahre and assistant coach Alex de Crook. The Quakes have won only four games this season. When do you think Stahre should have got fired.

#4 The San Francisco Giants, who are a good 12 games out of first place, and their current hosts, the San Diego Padres, who are some 26 games out, will mostly look at their call ups during this series since the playoffs are dimming each day.

#5 The San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had a rough outing against the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium. The Niners had a 17-point lead, but lost it as their lead collapsed to just three points. If it wasn’t for a holding penalty late in the fourth quarter, the Lions would have been in field goal range or at best scoring range after picking off a Garoppolo pass.

San Jose sports podcast with Ana Kieu: Both Earthquakes and Spartans can use paper bags

On the San Jose sports podcast with Ana:

1. The San Jose Earthquakes returned to Avaya Stadium…only to lose to Sporting Kansas City 5-1.

2. Quakes captain Chris Wondolowski put the Native American community first before the match vs. Sporting KC at Avaya Stadium. Wondo is half Native American through his mother, Janis Hoyt, who was born into the Kiowa tribe from Oklahoma. Wondo is also a member of the Kiowa tribe.

3. The Quakes host the Eastern Conference-leading Atlanta United at Avaya Stadium tonight. Do you think the Quakes will get blown out again?

4. Despite the 35-22 loss, the San Jose State Spartans put on quite a show against No. 20 Oregon at Autzen Stadium.

5. After the bye week, the Spartans will welcome the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors for this year’s Homecoming game on September 29th. Coach Nick Rolovich and his Rainbow Warriors have proved they weren’t the same team they were last year. What should coach Brent Brennan and his Spartans do in order to prepare for this Mountain West contest? Also, do you think the Spartans can beat Hawaii?

San Francisco Giants podcast with Marko Ukalovic: Giants take second game of three game set from Padres using regulars and second stringers

On the San Francisco Giants podcast with Marko:

#1 How much playing time do you expect Giants manager Bruce Bochy to give his call ups and reserves seeing the Giants’ postseason hopes fading?

#2 Bochy in the series has played it competitive winning on Monday night in San Diego 4-2 and using a lot of his regulars and second string bench and bullpen core.

#3 On Tuesday night at Petco the Giants just got by the Padres 5-4 to take a 2-0 lead in the series down 4-3 the Giants made hay in the Petco Park evening coming back to score two runs off Padres reliever Craig Stammen in the eighth.

#4 The Giants conclude this three-game series with the Padres on Wednesday night. The Giants will be looking to get a sweep and after suffering an 11-game losing steak that ended Friday. The Giants now have won four of their last five games.

#5 The Giants next opponent will be at Busch Stadium in St. Louis to open a three-game series with the Cardinals. The Giants will try and play spoilers in this one as the Cardinals are just 2 1/2 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Wild Card race.

That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary podcast: A’s unlikely to win AL West, but have a good shot at the AL Wild Card

Amaury does his News and Commentary podcast with Marko Ukalovic, Jeremy Harness, and Joey Friedman from Scotts Seafood Restaurant in downtown San Jose.

It seems like 20 years ago when Oakland A’s pitcher Kendall Graveman was on the A’s roster at the beginning of the 2018 season. That was five an half months ago and the A’s saw pitcher Sean Manaea throw a no-hitter, but later to be put on the DL for Tommy John surgery, which ultimately ended his season and also his season for 2019.

Also, A’s pitcher Jharel Cotton also is having Tommy John. The A’s are 90-60 as of Monday night and they look like they’re going to make it to the playoffs. The last three years, the A’s finished in the cellar. They look like they caught lightening in a bottle. Matt Chapman and Matt Olson are the real thing and Marcus Semien is having a good year. It’s Semien’s bat that has him in the big leagues, not his glove.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor: How prepared are the 49ers?; Penalty provides big break in first win of season

On the 49ers podcast with David Zizmor:

The San Francisco 49ers nearly threw away last Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions literally when 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo passed a ball that was intercepted by a Lions defender. With the turnover it nearly derailed a faltering lead that once was 17 points in the fourth quarter at Levi’s Stadium.

The 49ers caught a break when a penalty flag was thrown against the Lions for a holding call on offensive back Quandre Diggs. That called back a return on Garoppolo’s pass from the Lions safety Tracy Walker who ran the interception for 37 yards and ironically was tackled by Garoppolo which would have spotted the ball on the seven yard line and the 49ers barely holding onto a three-point lead 30-27.

San Francisco Giants podcast with Morris Phillips: After taking two from Rockies, Giants could go into their call ups against Padres tonight

On the Giants podcast with Morris:

#1 The Giants opened their series with the visiting Colorado Rockies on Friday and after losing 11 straight games the Giants had had enough and won their first two games on shutouts.

#2 Thanks to the Giants’ handy work, the Rockies were bumped from first-place, proving the Giants can hang with the Rockies.

#3 The Rockies did everything they could to prevent the Giants from winning with a 3-2 victory. Rockies pitcher Antonio Senzatela hit a two-run RBI single to help his cause.

#4 The Giants cut the lead to just a run when Joe Panik scored in the eighth inning, but the Giants could tie it up and get the sweep.

#5 The Giants open up a three-game series in San Diego tonight. The Giants in this series most likely will give their callup a look as both the Padres and Giants are most likely not going to make the postseason.
