On the Raiders podcast with Rich:

#1 Rich, the Raiders (2-1) will be hosting the Buffalo Bills on Sunday one of the toughest teams in the NFL at 3-0. The Bills have been noted for their offense and they’ve been in some close games but quarterback Josh Allen has been able to deliver.

#2 Allen threw four touchdown passes against a very challenging Los Angeles Rams team last Sunday in a narrow three point win 35-32 do you see him operating in the same fashion against the Raiders this Sunday?

#3 On the other hand the Raiders are coming off a tough 16 point loss to the New England Patriots 36-20. The Raider defense just got held back by a very talented Patriots offensive line and it gave Patriots quarterback Cam Newton lots of time to throw.

#4 For the Raiders quarterback Derek Carr he also had time to throw he threw for two touchdowns but the key quarter of last Sunday’s game was the third quarter as the Patriots defense shut the Raiders out.

#5 As Carr and the Raiders offense draw up the playbook for this Sunday’s game who do you see them matched up against the Bills defense coming into this one?

By Jeremiah Salmonson

SANTA CLARA–The San Francisco 49ers are back at it on Sunday. Last week, the 49ers were able to pull out a win in New York against the Giants despite injuries to the running back core, quarterback, tight end, and wide receiver. This week they take on the winless Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles are injured. The 49ers are injured. The Eagles are dealing with notable injuries to DeSean Jackson and Dallas Goedert. The jury is still out on if Jackson will play Sunday but it looks unlikely.

For San Francisco, the injuries are also piling up. Notably RB Raheem Mostert will be out, WR Deebo Samuel will be out, TE George Kittle most likely out, and QB Jimmy Garoppolo will also most likely be out. It is possible the Garoppolo and Kittle both return in week four on Sunday but that remains unlikely.

In order for the 49ers to win they will need a repeat performance from backup QB Nick Mullens. Last week Mullens threw for almost 350 yards with a touchdown. Another key price will be rookie WR Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk impressed last week and could be another key piece on Sunday.

Overall, it looks like a good chance the 49ers will be able to pull out a win. The Eagles have really struggled this year and don’t show many signs of turning it around.

The game starts at 5:20 PM PST on Sunday night. Watch on NBC Sunday Night Football.

#4 Carr in the game threw 24 for 32 for 261 yards and two touchdowns just taking a look at Carr’s completions he was running and didn’t have time to stay in the pocket long.

#5 The Raiders task doesn’t get easier their next opponent is the 3-0 Buffalo Bills. Bill quarterback Josh Allen beat a very good Los Angeles Rams (2-1) team on Sunday in a close game 35-32. Raiders lose first game of the season to New England, 36-20

The Raiders simply couldn’t overcome mistakes as they fell to the New England Patriots, 36-20, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA.

The Raiders fumbled the ball away three times and couldn’t convert multiple times in the redzone.

“There are some issues that add up to a loss,” said head coach Jon Gruden.  “I am proud of our team for fighting and I like the effort.”

Las Vegas kept the game close in the first half, trailing just 13-10 at halftime, but the Patriots rolled off 23 points in the second half.

“We came in at halftime and we felt good, but coming out, obviously it got away from us,” said quarterback Derek Carr.

Carr threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns, one each to wide receiver Hunter Renfrow and tight end Foster Moreau.

“I like our team,” said Gruden.  “We are a young team, but we do not lack confidence.”

“We are always confident,” said Carr.  “We didn’t play our best game, but we made it a game.”

Josh Jacobs led the Raiders on the ground, rushing 16 times for 71 yards.

“We had a couple of drives where we moved the ball very well,” said Jacobs.  “We have to just work on redzone execution and try not to beat ourselves in certain situations.”

With the loss, the Raiders fell to 2-1 on the season and will next return home to face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium.

Game Notes:

  • The Raiders were outgained in total yards, 406-375.
  • Tight end Darren Waller was held to just two catches for nine yards.
  • Nine different Raiders players caught at least one ball from QB Derek Carr.

What injuries? 49ers make win look easy over Giants 36-9; Joe Montana rescues grandchild from kidnapper

First half action shows San Francisco 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens (4) throwing over the New York Giants defensive line at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Sun Sep 27, 2020 (AP News photo)

By Barbara Mason

Despite a multitude of injuries the San Francisco 49ers accepted “no excuses” as they had no choice but to turn to new faces to fill the void that so many injured players had left. Last weeks’s game against the Jets left the team decimated but it is what it is. Coach Shanahan had a lot of decisions to make this week in an effort to put this team back together.

The list of missing players is extensive with George Kittle, Jimmy Garoppolo,, Richard Sherman and Raheem Mostart heading the list. The good news for San Francisco is that this team not only has quality starters but they have a lot of quality players in the depth chart. Going into this game the thought was that this team is going to be ok.

As the game got underway this team was going to be a lot more than just ok as the final score indicated. San Francisco outscored the Giants in all four quarters in a lop-sided 36-9 win over New York. If there is any question regarding San Francisco quarterback Nick Mullens that has been laid to rest for the moment. He was 25 of 36 passing for 343 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions for a 13.72 yards per completion.

A very nice game for the backup quarterback and the entire team despite all the obstacles they have had to face this week. Going into this game they not only had to face the Giants with a bit of a new look but they also had to face the dreaded turf at Met Life Stadium. San Francisco took it all in stride and came away with the win by controlling the ball on offense and gave the mistake prone Giants yet another loss.

Kicker Robbie Gould had a great day with three successful field goals and Jerick McKinnon, Brandon Aiyuk, and Jeff Wilson all had rushing touchdowns for a near perfect showing by the team. There were complaints from the players regarding the new turf which was described as sticky. Turf is tough that is a given, but new turf is even worse.

Despite all of that the turf was a non-issue in this dominating win over the leagues lowest-scoring offense. The team came out of this game fairly unscathed although TE Jordan Reed who had two touchdowns last week was hurt late in the first quarter. Another injury was to cornerback Emmanuel Moseley with a concussion in the second quarter. There was not a lot at all going on defensively or offensively for the Giants and San Francisco breezed through this one. The New York Giants are now a dismal 0-3.

Joe Montana stops kidnapping in own house: Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Joe Montana 64, stopped a would be kidnapper from taking his baby grandchild in his Los Angeles County home on Sunday morning. The suspect a woman who saw someone holding the baby in his house got inside and took the child from the person holding the baby.

The suspect moved into a different part of the house and that’s when Montana and his wife Jennifer went to wrestle the baby from the suspect who ran out of the house. Someone from Montana’s house caught the attention of nearby Sheriff’s deputies who pursued the suspected and arrested her for kidnapping and burglary.

Montana in a tweet said to thank all well wishers and was thankful that it was a safe outcome and asked for privacy at this time.
