After last week’s loss to Buffalo, Raiders quarterback Derek Car said, “I’m sick of losing”.

That seemed to have sparked his teammates as the Raiders went into Arrowhead Stadium and knocked off the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, 40-32.

“I’m really proud of our guys,” said head coach Jon Gruden. “We beat a really good football team.  We had a lot of guys step up.”

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr snapped a personal 6 game losing streak, being 0-6 in his career against Kansas City before the game.

“I have taken a lot of sad walks up that ramp, but not today,” said Carr. “I am going to enjoy this one.”

Carr threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns, one each to Henry Ruggs, Nelson Agholor and Darren Waller.

“He has been through a lot here as a Raider,” said Gruden of Carr. “This was certainly a big win for him.”

Ruggs returned from missing two games with a hamstring injury, catching two balls for 118 yards including a 72 yard touchdown.

“It just shows that we are not here to lay down, we are here to compete,” said Ruggs.

The Raiders last beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in a 26-16 win on October 28, 2012.  Carson Palmer was the Raiders quarterback in that game.

“What better opportunity to see what this team is made of?,” said Carr. “This team is legit.”

With the win, the Raiders improved to 3-2 on the season heading into their bye week.

Game Notes:

  • The Raiders outgained the Chiefs in total yards, 490-413.
  • Raiders’ running back Josh Jacobs rushed 23 times for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Eleven different Raiders players caught at least one ball from QB Derek Carr.
  • The Chiefs loss ended a 13 game winning streak.

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe how concerned should the 49ers be without cornerback Richard Sherman not being in the line up for this Sunday against the Dolphins. Sherman has that calf injury he’s trying to shake. Head coach Kyle Shanahan was taking a look at Sherman in practice and although Sherman is eligible to come off the IL Shanahan said Sherman is not ready.

#2 Shanahan said after watching Sherman in practice he’s going to hold him out until maybe next week and won’t commit Sherman for Oct 18th vs. the Rams in week 6.

#3 Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo returned to practice this week but was limited due to his high ankle injury he won’t play against Miami Sunday and quarterback Nick Mullens is the probable starter.

#4 Free safety Jimmie Ward also did not practice with the team this week and has a wrist injury that got worse after last Sunday’s game against the Eagles. Ward played in 20 straight games.

#5 The 49ers (2-2) host the Miami Dolphins (1-3) this Sun at Levis Stadium. The Dolphins have struggled but yet the 49ers lost to a winless Eagles team last Sunday.

#2 San Francisco quarterback Nick Mullens struggled under center last Sunday leaving the question who will start this Sunday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said with Jimmy Garoppolo out with an ankle injury he’s going with Mullens again. How do you see Mullens throwing against the Miami Dolphins defense this Sunday.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Barbara Mason: Too much Josh Allen but Raiders played a close game in seven point loss

The Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (17) comes back to the Bills sideline after a quarterback keeper for a touchdown and is greeted by head coach Sean McDermott in the second half against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sun Oct 4, 2020 in Las Vegas (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Barbara:

#1 Barbara to start off how irresponsible are the Raiders for attending a charity event last week not wearing any masks and later were fined by the NFL namely tight end Darren Waller for $30,000 and quarterback Derek Carr $15,000 just to name a few.

#2 Barbara, you knew it was going to be a challenge when the Raiders were going to host the Buffalo Bills and it was a game that mostly went to the Bills.

#3 The Bills certainly got there money’s worth on offense as Bills quarterback Josh Allen threw 24-34 for 288 yards and two touchdowns.

#4 The Raiders did shutout the Bills in the third quarter one of the toughest offenses in the NFL that really speaks well to the to the Raiders defense.

#5 The Raiders behind 17-16 saw the Bills score 13 in the fourth quarter and that pretty much crushed the Raiders chances of any kind of come back losing by a touchdown 30-23.

#6 The Raiders are headed to Kansas City to face the Chiefs next Sunday. The Chiefs hosted the New England Patriots last night. The Patriots almost didn’t make the trip because of quarterback Cam Newton’s positive test but after the Patriots had negative results from their tests they made the trip.

Raiders drop second straight game in 30-23 loss to Buffalo

By Shawn McCullough

The Raiders lost for the first time at their new home, Allegiant Stadium, in a 30-23 defeat to the Buffalo Bills.

“I give our guys credit, we scored 23 points today,” said head coach Jon Gruden.  “You know, we played pretty good at times on offense.”

Las Vegas moved to within one point of taking the lead at 17-16 in the third quarter, but Buffalo scored 13 unanswered points to break the game open later in the second half.

Quarterback Derek Carr went 32 for 44 for 311 yards and two touchdowns, one each to Jason Witten and Nelson Agholor, but Carr was frustrated after the game.

“I’m sick of losing,” said Carr. “I’m sick of working as hard as I do and as we do and going out there and losing.  I mean, it sucks.  Enough is enough.”

Second year running back Josh Jacobs was held to just 15 carries for 48 yards, while tight end Darren Waller led in receiving, catching nine balls for 88 yards.

“I guess it is just a credit to their defense,” said Jacobs on a lackluster rushing game. “They were flying in all of the gaps.”

Waller committed a huge fumble in the Raiders’ first possession of the fourth quarter, which later led to a two yard touchdown run by Bills running back Devin Singletary to put the Bills up 14.

“My fumble was pivotal,” said Waller. “We were going down the field to take the lead and it was the turning point.”

With the loss, the Raiders fell to 2-2 on the season and will next travel to Kansas City to face the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs on Sunday.

“If anybody has played a tougher schedule than us, tell me who has,” said Gruden. “We played Monday night against the Saints, across the country on a short week against the Patriots and the Buffalo Bills are undefeated and a playoff team. And we are not going to get any sympathy next week going to Arrowhead.”

Game Notes:

  • The Raiders outgained the Bills in total yards, 383-336.
  • The Raiders turned the ball over twice and QB Derek Carr was sacked x times.
  • Nine different Raiders players caught at least one ball from QB Derek Carr.
  • TE Darren Waller was targeted 12 times.

#3 The 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon, wide out Brandon Aiyuk, and running back Jeff Wilson Jr. all had a touchdown each and Wilson Jr had two touchdowns that provided key for the offense against the Giants.

#4 The visiting Philadelphia Eagles (0-2-1) are headed to Levi Stadium this Sunday. Their coming off a 23-23 tie from last Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals (0-2-1). Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz was 29-47 for 225 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
