#1 Are the San Francisco 49ers an optical illusion or are they for real? People are pinching themselves over the Niners at 5-0 and their amazing performance on both sides of the football.

#2 The Oakland Raiders continue their long strange trip this time against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday. The Raiders play their fourth game out of the last five weeks out on the road and they’ve won their last two games.

#3 MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said for the Oakland City Council to get its act together soon or the Oakland A’s will move to Vegas. Some question if Manfred was more on the hasty and demanding side, while the city has put a legal hold on the A’s ability to buy the Coliseum property. In the meantime, CA Gov. Gavin Newsom said he will try to expedite the construction of the A’s new stadium at the Howard Terminal.

#4 The Cal Bears are coming off a tough loss to Oregon October 5th and host OSU at Cal this is expected to be a much better game this Saturday than their last game in Oregon.

#5 No one would have thought that San Jose Sharks’ Patrick Marleau would be the difference in turning things around after the Sharks went 0-4 and now they’re up to 2-4 and could close in on .500 on Wednesday night with a win over the Carolina Hurricanes at SAP Center.

#6 Calls went against the Detroit Lions Trey Flowers for hand to the face on Monday Night Football on the second hands to the face call it forced the Lions into their own red zone and the Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers took a knee twice and with just a little over a minute left the Packers kicker Mason Crosby kicked a 23 yard field goal for the 23-22.

#1 Oakland Raiders linebacker Vontaze Burfict was suspended for the September 30th helmet to helmet hit on Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle. Was suspending Burfict for the rest of the season going too far for the NFL?

#2 Burfict tried to appeal, but the NFL and the NFL Players upheld the suspension for the entire season.

#3 Raiders head coach Jon Gruden and quarterback Derek Carr both spoke about Burfict at his appeal and said he was a good teammate and he has tried to change from lowering his helmet.

#4 The thing about it is Doyle said Burfict tackled him and he didn’t feel anything, but the league didn’t like the way Burfict came in with his helmet and held up the suspension.

#5 The Raiders have a bye this Sunday and get ready for Green Bay Sunday, October 20th.

Raiders come up with huge win in London 24-21

After seeing the Chicago Bears come all the way back to a take 21-17 lead, the Oakland Raiders showed absolutely no quit in their offense.

Josh Jacobs scored on a two-yard run with just 1:57 remaining in the fourth quarter, helping the Raiders to a 24-21 victory over the Bears at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

With the victory, the Raiders have won back-to-back games for the first time since the 2017 season.

After the touchdown, the Bears began to drive the ball down the field, but Chase Daniel, playing quarterback for the Bears for the injured Mitchell Trubisky threw an interception that Gareon Conley snared at the Raiders 23-yard line that gave the ball to the Raiders; however, the Raiders could not run the clock and were forced to give the ball back to the Bears with 20 seconds remaining in the game.

Maurice Hurst came up with the biggest play of the game, as he sacked Daniel to end the game and Raiders swarmed the field in jubilation.

The Raiders got on the scoreboard with just five seconds gone in the second quarter, as Jacobs scored from 12 yards to give the Raiders a 7-0 lead.

It turned out to be a big day for Jacobs, who scored two touchdowns on 26 carries and eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the first time, as he ran 123 yards.

The eventual game-winning drive for the Raiders saw everything, as they started on their own three-yard line, eventually were forced to punt the ball on fourth-and-6; however, the Bears were called for running into the kicker, giving the Raiders a second chance. With a short fourth-and-1, the Raiders took a gamble and faked the punt and got the first down; however, Erik Harris gained three yards to give the Raiders the first down.

Derek Carr came up with a 23-yard completion to Foster Moreau on third-and-1 to extend the drive that ended with Jacobs getting into the end zone for the second time on the afternoon.

Former Raiders linebacker Khalil Mack was held in check by the Raiders offensive line, as he came with a fumble that saw Carr and Jacobs miscommunicate on a pitchout.

That fumble turned into a touchdown, as David Montgomery scored from a yard out to get the Bears on the board.

Daniel got going after Montgomery touchdown, as he then threw two touchdowns to Allen Robinson that gave the Bears a 21-17 lead.

The Raiders drove down to the Bears one-yard line, but Trevor Davis fumbled the ball and the ball was recovered by Prince Amukamara at the Bears own one-yard line.

Luckily, for the Raiders, who were called for a roughing the passer on Hurst, the Bears could not put the game away and the Raiders took over on their own three-yard line and it culminated in the Jacobs two-yard touchdown run in the waning moments.

Carr went 25-for-32 for 229 yards on the evening, as the Raiders go into the bye week on a high note.

Moreau led the Raiders with 46 yards receiving, as he was one of three Raiders to have four catches, as Davis and Darren Waller also caught four passes.

UP NEXT: Following the bye week, the Raiders return to the road, as they will travel to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers on October 20.

#1 The Oakland Raiders lost third-string quarterback Nathan Peterman to an elbow injury the injury so bad that Peterman will be out for eight weeks bringing him back at the earliest at the end of October.

#2 The Raiders signed quarterback DeShone Kizer who was just released by the Green Bay Packers after the last preseason game, Kizer was the fourth-string quarterback. The Raiders picked up Kizer just after he was released and after it was confirmed by team doctors that Peterman would be out eight weeks with the elbow.

#3 London talks about how important it is for the Dallas Cowboys to sign Ezekiel Elliott and that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says as soon as a deal is reached, the Cowboys look forward to putting Ezekiel in the line up this weekend against the New York Giants.

#4 For the second consecutive game, the San Jose Earthquakes are in the win column. The Quakes got a shutout against Orlando City FC and won convincingly 3-0. How important is a game like this to boost the Quakes’ morale after going without a win in three previous games before winning two straight?

#5 Chris Wondolowski on Saturday extended his league-leading goal total to 157 goals scoring his 20th goal of the season. A remarkable career and a remarkable season.

#1 How bad were the weekend uniforms, some said the home whites looked like they were cricket players or they were selling ice cream in the stands like the concession salespeople. MLB said and made sure each player wore the proper uniform.

#2 The helmet issue of Oakland Raiders’ Antonio Brown has not yet gone away yet. Brown filed a grievance with the Players Union. Brown said the helmet that he used to use in Pittsburgh was a good-fitting helmet that did its job. The league is saying Brown needs to wear the proper helmet to protect himself from concussion and if he collides with another player.

#3 The Raiders picked up a close win in Winnipeg against the Green Bay Packers 22-21 last Thursday. It took a Daniel Carlson field goal with eight seconds left to get the Raiders the win on a rugged short field that’s normally used for Canadian Football.

#4 The A’s will try and shake off the double loss to the Giants from the weekend series and tango with the Kansas City Royals. The A’s really need this series in order to keep pace with Cleveland and Tampa Bay in the AL wild card.

#5 It’s hard to believe that former San Francisco Giant pitcher Juan Marichal is 81 years old. He’s had a storied career, most notably when he got into that ruckus with John Roseboro and the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1965 in a brawl that Marichal hit Roseboro on the head with a bat. Marichal is also noted for his high leg kick and his multiple 20-win games.

#1 It may be just preseason, but there is something in the air in the Oakland Raiders dressing room — an excitement, and the anxiousness to get out on the field and do the job. The Raiders, who trailed to the Green Bay Packers up until the last few seconds of Thursday Night Football, came back and got kicker Daniel Carlson in kicking range to boot a game-winning field goal to get the Raiders their third straight preseason victory.

#2 Hard work and determination really goes into a win like the one the Raiders played on Thursday. Even though head coach Jon Gruden is using different rookies, players busting their tails to get a job on the team, and new faces who played their hearts out but were left with no choice but to be cut after a game like this.

#3 Talk about the field, it was a 80-yard field on Winnipeg and the 10-yard line is where the goal line. Did the CFL field kind of ruin the NFL game as the players had to convert their play to fit the field?

#4 There were no kickoffs in the game and the team who won the toss would start at the 25, how much of a difference did this make?

#5 The Raiders started Nathan Peterman, who completed 22 out of 36 passes for 230 yards, and Derek Carr sat out this one. How impressive did Peterman look and what are his chances as being the Raiders backup?

Carlson kicks the Raiders to the 22-21 win

Usually, NFL fields are 100 yards long, CFL fields are 110 yards long; however, on this night, the field was just 80 yards.

Daniel Carlson kicked a 33-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining in the game, as the Oakland Raiders defeated the Green Bay Packers at IG Field at Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The two end zones were at the 10-yard line, and noticeable by orange pylons and there were also no kickoffs.

Prior to the game, game officials and representatives from the Raiders and the Packers met to discuss the situation of the field. The goal posts were moved from the location that would have inside the end zone.

Former CAL star Aaron Rodgers once again did not play, as he also sat out the Packers first two games, Packers running back Aaron Jones also did not play for the Packers. In all, the Packers sat 33 players in their third exhibition game of 2019.

Both Derek Carr and Antonio Brown did not play for the Raiders, who are now 3-0 on the exhibition season.

The Packers took a commanding 21-10 lead at the end of the first half, as Tim Boyle threw a 23-yarrd touchdown pass to Trevor Davis. Boyle also threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jake Kumerow.

Tra Carson ran for a touchdown, as the Packers fell to 1-2 on the exhibition season with one game remaining.

Nathan Peterman threw two touchdowns for the Raiders, including a 17-yard touchdown to DeMornay Pierson-El in the fourth quarter that narrowed the Packers lead down to 21-19; however, the Raiders were unable to convert the two-point conversion, as Petermans pass was intercepted.

Peterman ended up going 23-for-37 for 210 yards on the evening.

Carlson gave the Raiders a 3-0 lead, as he kicked a 42-yard field goal late in the first quarter to put the Raiders on the board.

Boyle then found Davis to give the Packers their first lead of the game, as they connected for a 23-yard touchdown.

Peterman then gave the Raiders the lead again on their next series, as he found Keith Smith for a 15-yard touchdown pass.
Boyle found Kumerow for a 26-yard touchdown pass, and then Carson closed out the scoring for the Packers with just 31 seconds remaining in the first half.

That would be the last points that the Packers would score, as the Raiders defense came up big and the Raiders offense began to click under Peterman.

Carlson cut the Packers lead down to eight on their first series of the second half, as he nailed a 40-yard field goal and then Pierson-El was on the receiving end of a 17-yard touchdown pass with 5:48 remaining in the game.

NOTES: This was the first game in Canada since the 2013 season, when the Buffalo Bills played the last of their eight games at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

The Raiders moved the game, as they saved $500,000 in rent at the Oakland Coliseum, as this is the last season for the Raiders in Oakland before they move to Las Vegas for the 2020 season.

UP NEXT: After returning to California, the Raiders head to Century Link Field in Seattle to face the Seattle Seahawks on August 29 at 7:00 p.m.

#4 The Oakland Raiders have won two of their first two preseason games and head coach Jon Gruden said this team will deliver “you can bet on that” The Raiders play preseason week three in Winnipeg against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football.

#5 The talking head, the critics, and talk show hosts have said the 49ers offense is struggling and they showed signs of that against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football this week. 49ers starter Jimmy Garoppolo had three on completed passes out of six and zero yards. Was this a matter of Jimmy G just not prepared or just rusty coming off the knee injury?

Raiders face Packers in rare home game in Winnipeg on Thursday night

Two down. Two to go.

The Raiders have played two exhibition games and sport a 2-0 record as the team inches closer to the regular season home opener against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 9 at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum as part of ESPN’s Monday Night Football doubleheader.

Oakland will try to keep up its winning ways going as they will play host to the Green Bay Packers at IG Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on Thursday night in the third exhibition game for both teams.

Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. PDT.

Last week, Oakland went on the road and defeated the Arizona Cardinals 33-26. Oakland jumped out to 26-point before the Cardinals scored.

Raiders starting quarterback Derek Carr made his first appearance of the exhibition season and looked in regular season form.

Carr led Oakland’s first-team offense to a touchdown on his only series of play, engineering a six-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a 13-yard pass to wide receiver Ryan Grant. Carr went 2-of-2 for 40 yards on the drive before giving way to backup quarterback Mike Glennon.

In the battle for QB2, Glennon appears to have the inside track over Nathan Peterman.

On Glennon’s first drive of the game, he connected with wide receiver Rico Gafford for a 53-yard touchdown to give the Raiders a 17-0 lead. Then on his next possession, Glennon threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to tight end Derek Carrier that pushed Oakland’s lead to 24-0 in the second quarter.

Glennon threw for 175 yards on 11-of-14 passes and two touchdowns against Arizona.

Peterman didn’t lead Oakland to any points, but did complete 8-of-8 passes for 41 yards.

Oakland’s offense registered 373 yards total and controlled the football for 35:43 of the game, compared to 24:17 for Arizona.

Its possible that Carr and the first-team offense could see the field on Thursday night, but anticipate players who are on the roster bubble that will get the majority of the playing time.

Oakland’s first-team defense turned up the heat on Arizona’s rookie quarterback Kyler Murray.

Murray, the No. 1 overall pick by the Cardinals in April’s NFL Draft, had no time to throw the football as defensive coordinator Paul Guenther sent the wolves after the young player for much of his appearance in the game.

Oakland recorded a safety on Murray after safety Lamarcus Joyner sacked the former Oklahoma quarterback in the end zone that pushed Oakland’s lead to 26-0.

Murray passed for just 12 yards on 3-of-8 passing.

Along with Joyner, linebacker Brandon Marshall and defensive tackle Ethan Westbrooks each registered a sack in the game.

Linebacker Keisean Nixon led the team in tackles with five.

Green Bay (1-1) is coming off a 26-13 road loss to the Baltimore Ravens with starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers sitting out his second-straight exhibition season.

Backup quarterback DeShone Kizer started in Rodgers’ place, completed just 5-of-10 passes for 70 yards and three points on three drives. Fellow backup quarterback Tim Boyle actually fared better than Kizer in his showing.

Boyle completed 12-of-21 passes for 107 yards and one touchdown.

The second-year pro from the University of Kentucky led Green Bay on a seven-play, 84-yard drive that ended with a 7-yard pass to rookie wide receiver Darrius Shepherd that cut Baltimore’s lead to 20-13 in the third quarter before the Ravens added two fields goals from kicker Justin Tucker in the fourth quarter to put Baltimore up, 26-13, and the game out of reach.

After Thursday night’s game, the Raiders will wrap up the exhibition season in Seattle against the Seahawks on Aug. 29. It will mark the 14th-consecutive year that the two teams will conclude the exhibition season, with 10 in Seattle and four in Oakland.

The Packers will close out the exhibition season at home with Oakland’s biggest rival, the Kansas City Chiefs, coming into Lambeau Field.
