#1 After Khris Davis had his earlier season injury to the hip and struggled when he got back in the lineup, he’s found his swing and a perfect example was Sunday’s two home run game in Arlington to help the A’s pull off a win.

#2 A good team comes from behind and the A’s seem to get help from many different players every night: Matt Olson, Matt Chapman, Khris Davis, Sean Murphy, Robbie Grossman, Mike Fiers, Sean Manaea and many more.

#3 Will the A’s, who are in a dead heat first place tie in the wild card, be able to make this a race all the way to the end of the wire with Tampa Bay just to get to play one game in the postseason?

#4 The A’s pitching has combined a 5.95 ERA during their road swing in Houston and Texas. The A’s had allowed 17 home runs in seven games on the trip.

#5 The A’s Matt Chapman’s home run on Sunday helped Oakland surpass the A’s 1996 franchise record setting the all-time record at 244 home runs.

#1 Whose got to be more excited about Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski playing at Fenway Park? Starting on Tuesday night, Yastrzemski, his grandfather former Boston Red Sox Carl Yastrzemski or our very own MLB analyst Bill Gould?

#2 On Sunday against the Miami Marlins, Yastrzemski scored on a diving head first slide to score one of the Giants’ two runs, which was enough to get by the Marlins 2-1. Yaz is having a rookie season hitting .265, 56 runs, 87 hits, and 51 RBIs.

#3 Giants starter Johnny Cueto pitched five innings of shutout ball and gave up three hits in the win. The Giants had five pitchers come into relieve after Cueto left and they combined to hold off the Marlins to just one run.

#4 This is kind of a special series besides of the reunion of grandfather and grandson Yastrzemski. The Giants, who do not play at Fenway except for every three years. This is a special place for them to return to since it doesn’t happen often to come to a historical place like Fenway.

#5 This will be Giants manager Bruce Bochy’s last road trip as manager. The Giants conclude their 2019 road schedule in Boston and then to Atlanta. Pablo Sandoval, who was a Red Sox but not on this trip, wouldn’t quite expect the same reception Yaz will.

On the A’s podcast with Joey Friedman:

#1 The Oakland A’s, who hold onto first place in the AL wild card, have done some things this past week that defy a club that could be in first place in the AL West and they did their best impression of the Houston Astros taking three out of four from them at Minute Maid Park early last week.

#2 The Astros — no easy customer — welcomed Oakland to Houston with a crushing 15-0 blow to start the four-game series, but the A’s answered right back last Tuesday with a score that looked more like a football game than baseball 21-7 in game two on Tuesday.

#3 Beating a guy like Justin Verlander is a tough task to do in the Astros’ house, but they pulled it off last Thursday night scratching a one-run win and dropping Verlander to a 18-6 record. It certainly was a series for the Astros leaving them scratching their heads.

#4 The A’s on Friday night opened up some of that offense again this time in Arlington against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park with a 14-9 win and like Tuesday night. They were in the home run mood belting five to open the series.

#5 The A’s in game three of the series will be starting Sean Manaea (1-0, 0.75 ERA) against the Rangers’ Jonathan Hernandez (1-0, 1.93 ERA)  on a Sunday starter later.

It makes a world of difference for the Oakland A’s to have a front line pitcher like Sean Manaea return to the A’s rotation dropping into the rotation for the A’s at this point. As the A’s are fighting for that number one slot in the AL wild card race.

What a gift having Manaea back because he was on the injury list it’s not a issue for Manaea to be a roster player come playoff time. It’s a dream. It’s like making a trade when you don’t have trade deadline availability. Beyond that we know that Sean is one of the nicest guys in the world.

He was so devested when that injury came, he was very depressed because he was pitching so well and he turned that depression around so quickly with a determination to get healthy and he had set his goal and sites on being back exactly this time with the team.

#1 The Boston Red Sox fired their general manager David Dombrowski citing reasons why the Oakland A’s Billy Beane and David Forst declined to work for the Sox.

#2 Dombrowski led the Sox to a World Series last year. The Sox beat the Dodgers. Dombrowski will have no problem getting another front office job.

#3 A’s pitcher Sean Manaea has had such a great comeback his last outing. He beat Detroit with ten strikeouts for a 3-1 win. Manaea will be a huge plus for the A’s rotation.

#4 The A’s are close to calling up Jesus Luzardo from Las Vegas. Luzardo is ranked #3 as a left-handed pitching prospect.

#5 The A’s are in Houston facing their toughest American League opponent and the road to the World Series goes through Houston in the postseason.

#1 The Los Angeles Dodgers in Sunday’s game had a breakout fourth and fifth innings when they scored two and three runs in each respective inning. One thing they’re noted for is they can swing the bats.

#2 The Dodgers wound up getting a 5-0 shutout against the San Francisco Giants behind Dodger starter Kenta Maeda, who pitched four innings surrendering just one hit and struck out six.

#3 Meanwhile, Giants starter Derek Rodriguez continues to struggle. He went 4.2 innings, three hits, two earned runs, and four strikeouts. Rodriguez drops his record to 5-9.

#4 No one hits RBIs in this one. Buster Posey just picked up two hits and a hit each for Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Slater simply no offense Sunday for the Giants.

#5 The Giants open a four-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates starting Monday night at Oracle Park at 7:15 pm. Starting for Pittsburgh, Trevor Williams (7-6, 5.16 ERA), and for the Giants, Madison Bumgarner (9-8, 3.81 ERA).

#1 The A’s have won four of their last five games all on this current homestand. A little home cooking could cure some ills especially when you’re trying to put last week’s Yankees series in the rearview mirror.

#2 The A’s are having a time in this current series with the Detroit Tigers, who are at the Coliseum today. With an A’s win, they would have taken three out of four in this series, which includes a makeup game from Friday.

#3 The A’s need to keep winning and they have four games left against a team with a winning record like the Houston Astros, who the A’s visit on Monday night at Minute Maid Field. They could be baseball’s toughest customer.

#4 The A’s also have 16 games left with teams who have below .500 records. The A’s need all the wins they could get in order to keep pace in the AL wild card race.

#5 A pair of left-handers to start today’s contest at the Coliseum. For the Tigers, Daniel Norris (3-11, 4.76 ERA). For the A’s, Sean Manaea (0-0, 0.00 ERA). Second start of the season for Manaea.

#1 At this juncture, how anxious does this club seem to be to end this season regroup and see what next spring brings?

#2 The Giants faced two Cardinals pitcher Dakota Hudson and reliever Genesis Cabrera, who both shut the Giants out. The Giants simply could not figure either pitcher out.

#3 Giants starter Logan Webb got lit up going 2.2 innings, eight hits and seven runs, two walks and strikeouts with the Red Birds scoring three in the bottom of the first and five in the bottom of the third.

#4 The Giants used six pitchers, but most of the damage had been done in the five-run third. Webb was charged for all eight runs in the early going.

#5 The Giants hope to turn the page with a series coming up Friday night at Dodger Stadium. For the Giants, Jeff Samardzija (9-11, 3.61 ERA), and for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Clayton Kershawn (13-4, 2.96 ERA).

#1 A’s pitcher Sean Manaea had all his stuff working in New York on Sunday after taking more than a year off he looked sharp in his first start back.

#2 Although it would not be permitted because of the pitch count, did Manaea have enough in the tank to pitch a complete game?

#3 The bullpen faltered in the ninth inning and the New York Yankees came back from being down 4-0 and won it 5-4.

#4 Going into the postseason and the wild card, you’ve seen the A’s in the past struggle with the one-game wild card. Do you see that happening to this team again?

#5 The A’s open a three-game series with the Angels on Tuesday night. The Angels will start Jamie Barria (4-7, 6.10 ERA) against the A’s Mike Fiers (13-3, 3.40 ERA).
