San Francisco 49ers podcast with Marko Ukalovic: Will Mayor’s office payback 49ers for what some called a dirty campaign?

Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor who was re-elected as confirmed on Wed Nov 16, 2022. The 49ers spent over $4 million to try and defeat Gillmor which failed. (file photo Mercury News)

On the San Francisco 49ers podcast with Marko:

#1 San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York paid millions to deliver mayoral candidate Anthony Becker who ended up losing to current Lisa Gillmor 14,376 to Anthony Becker 13,686. Gillmor wins by 687. How concerned has Jed have to be knowing that there was heavy campaigning against Gillmor sometimes some mudslinging and the 49ers could see payback from what some people called a nasty campaign.

#2 The election was Tue Nov 8th and in a tight race with over 95% of the ballot counted Gillmor was the decided winner on Wed Nov 16th from the Register of voters office in Santa Clara County. This was a crucial vote for York and the 49ers as York had been butting heads with Gillmor since Gillmor had been mayor and now they will have to try and do business another four years into her second term.

#3 Gillmor had sought maintenance revenue from the 49ers something both sides had haggled with over the years and when the opportunity came to vote Gillmor out of office York spent over $4 million in campaign money to get her voted out of office which the 49ers failed to do but by a narrow margin.

#4 Turning the 49ers next game up the team had been in Colorado Springs all week adjusting to the high elevation climate in preparation for tonight’s Monday Night Football game in Mexico City against the Arizona Cardinals. How beneficial do you see working out in Colorado and going onto Mexico City for Monday Night Football?

#5 Marko, how ready is Cardinal quarterback Kyler Murray he had been out with a hamstring and is expected to start on Sunday. He can be potent and drive the offense against the 49ers not to mention he can carry the ball.

Carr-Adams Connection Beats Denver In Overtime 22-16

Carr-Adams Connection Beats Denver In Overtime 22-16

By Barbara Mason

Sunday afternoon two teams that have been struggling all season met at Empower Field at Mile High. The Las Vegas Raiders (3-7) traveled to Denver to take on the Broncos (3-7). The Raiders have quarterback Derek Carr and while not a top ten quarterback, he does fall between 11 and 16th so he is in the top half of the league.

The Broncos have a top ten quarterback in Russell Wilson but his team has still struggled this season. The Raiders ended their three-game skid with a 22-16 win and Denver has lost five of their last six games.

The Raiders have been competitive in most of the games they have lost this year, in fact six of their seven losses were one score games. Derek Carr has struggled without tight-end Darren Waller and wide receiver Hunter Renfrow both out with injury. He does have star wide receiver Davante Adams. He obviously cannot target Adams every time he throws the ball and the Broncos defense ranks second in the league so the Raiders face a mighty challenge.

The Broncos scored first in this game, a touchdown and that would be the only action either team would see in the first quarter. Former Raider Latavius Murray rushed for one yard giving Denver a 7-0 lead.

The Broncos would extend their lead in the second quarter 10-0. Denver kicker Brandon McManus kicked a 48 Yd field goal at 9:19. With 5:36 left in the half Las Vegas quarterback Derek Carr found Davante Adams for 31 yards, the touchdown and a Daniel Carlson extra point. Las Vegas was within striking distance trailing 7-10.

The Raiders tied up the game in the third quarter 10-10. Daniel Carlson kicked a 52 Yd field goal and Las Vegas was back in business.

It all came downs to the fourth quarter in a very close match-up. Denver took the lead to start the quarter, at 14:56; a McManus 52 yard field goal and a 13-10 Bronco lead. With eight minutes left in the game the Raiders were threatening in this three-point game. Josh Jacobs was shouldering all the ground work carrying the ball 23 times for 110 yards. The Raiders knotted up the game with a career- best 57 yard field goal from Daniel Carlson. It was all tied up at 13.

After that Raider field goal the Broncos mounted a drive that put them into field goal range. McManus kicked a 48 yard. field goal to break the tie 16-13. The Raiders had some work to do with 3:30 left on the clock. Las Vegas went three and out. The Broncos would now try to run the clock out on this game.

The Broncos needed a single first down to seal the win and could not come up with it. The Raiders had less than two minutes to either tie up this game or win it. Derek Carr found Josh Jacobs for 43 yards with 0:57 left in the game. Carlson would kick a 25 yard field goal to tie up this game at 16. The Broncos had 0:07 to get within field goal range. This game would go into overtime.

The Raiders won the toss and would start their second overtime this year. It could not have been a more dramatic finish in this game. In a beautifully designed play Derek Carr found Davante Adams open for 35 yds and the game-ending touchdown. Las Vegas came away with the win.

This game had its ups and downs for Vegas but they pulled it all together when it really counted. Carr finished 23 of 37 for 298 yards and two touchdowns. Josh Jacobs carried the ball 24 times for 109 yards and had 51 yards receiving.

Carr was able to find seven receivers in this game. Adams had seven receptions for 141 yards. Las Vegas finished this game with 307 receiving yards. The Raiders were pressed and had to go the distance but they persisted and it paid off against a very tough Bronco defense.

Next up for the Raiders next Sunday will be the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:05 PM PT.

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 How important was it for the San Francisco 49ers to practice this past week in Colorado Springs before playing above sea level in Mexico City on Monday Night Football.

#2 The 49ers are noted for building drafts which had players that had injuries previously like Javon Kinlaw, Kavon Alexander, or getting Dee Ford in a trade.

#3 Could the 49ers sign wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham 30 could be somewhat of a liability who is recovering in his ninth month from his second surgery from torn left ACL.

On the Raiders podcast with Tony R:

#1 After the Las Vegas Raiders (2-7) loss on Sunday 25-20 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas the Raider fans booed the team off the field and some fans yelled at Raiders owner Mark Davis to fire Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels not quite the exit the Raiders wanted.

#2 McDaniels to say the least is under media and fan scrutiny for the 2-7 start and said during his post game press conference that the trouble and the loses start with him.

#3 Davis told the media that the Raiders did an extensive search for a new coach in the off season and said that he’s building an organization and that Rome wasn’t built in day.

#4 Talk show hosts and reporters say that Raider quarterback Derek Carr who teared up during the post game press conference after last Sunday’s game sounded like he was looking at the end. There was also mention that there might be a strong quarterback class coming out of the draft next season.

Raiders Fall In Final Minute to Colts 25-20

Raiders Fall In Final Minute to Colts 25-20

By Barbara Mason

Last Sunday Nov 6th the Las Vegas Raiders (2-7) lost to the struggling Jacksonville Jaguars 27-20. Quarterback Derek Carr threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns, enough to win most games. Las Vegas only managed 73 rushing yards and the fumble at the end of the game sealed the loss for the Raiders.

Sun Nov 13th the Raiders took on Matt Ryan and the Indianapolis Colts (4-5-1) and fell on the last play of the game 25-20. The Colts scored the first touchdown of the game in the first quarter. A rush by quarterback Matt Ryan up the middle for one yard gave the Colts the early lead 7-0.

In the early minutes of the second quarter Chase McLaughlin kicked a 48 Yd. field goal extending the Indianapolis lead 10-0. Through the first two quarters the Raiders offense was stagnant. In the final minute, at 0:58 Las Vegas showed some life. Quarterback Derek Carr completed a 4 Yd pass to Foster Moreau and a touchdown. The Raiders trailed at the half 13-7 but had finally gotten up on the scoreboard. The Colts had won the coin toss and elected to start the second half.

The Raiders put together an excellent drive late in the third quarter. On a 2nd and 20 Carr found Foster Moreau for 18 yards driving down to the Indianapolis 17 yard line. Moreau was injured during that play and his return was questionable. Three plays later Las Vegas scored when Josh Jacobs rushed for one yard tying up the game at 13. Daniel Carlson kick the extra point giving the Raiders their first lead of the game 14-13.

With less than two minutes left in the third quarter, the Colts put together a successful drive culminating in a Jonathan Taylor touchdown. The attempted two-point conversion failed. Indianapolis took a 19-14 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Raiders scored in the early minutes of the fourth quarter when Derek Carr found Devante Adams in the end zone for 48 yards and the Raiders third touchdown of the day. Las Vegas would attempt a two-point conversion that failed. The Raiders now had a 20-19 lead with 11:36 left in the game.

To this point Matt Ryan had not thrown for a single touchdown. Derek Carr on the other hand had thrown two touchdowns.

The Colts would take back the lead with 5:07 left on the clock 25-20. This was Matt Ryan’s second rushing touchdown of the game. At the two minute warning the Raiders were in Colt territory 1st and 10 at the 49 Yd. line. Las Vegas drove deep into Colt territory and with 55 seconds on the clock had a 4th and seven. It all came down to one final play for the Raiders. An attempted pass from Carr to Adams failed and Indianapolis came away with the win 25-20. Las Vegas had fallen to a dismal 2-7.

The Raiders waited far too long to get this game going. They had a terrible first half and came on strong in the second half but had to play from behind for much of the second half. It was just too little too late.

They had every opportunity to close out this game in the final minute but could not get any offense going. Carr finished with 248 yards passing with two touchdowns, Josh Jacobs had 78 rushing yards and one touchdown, Devante Adams finished with 126 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Next week the Raiders take on the Broncos in Denver a very tough stadium to manage. The atmosphere alone makes winning a challenge. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:05 PM PT.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: Kittle says loss of Verrett sucks soul out of team

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Jason Verrett working out with 49ers on Jul 31, 2021. Verrett had been out of action since Sep 2021 he was scheduled to return for his first game this Sun Nov 13, 2022 until he tore his Achilles tendon in practice on Wed Nov 9, 2022 at the 49ers practice facility in Santa Clara (AP News file photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe, I guess San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle said it best on Wednesday after cornerback Jason Verrett on his Achilles tendon injury saying “It kind of sucks your soul out a little bit.”

#2 Joe, it was practice and there are different drills and different plays Verrett was working on with Verrett was trying to get into the line up and get ready for Sunday Night Football against the Los Angeles Chargers. Coach Kyle Shanahan broke the news to the team on the practice field you couldn’t hear a pin drop.

#3 Had Verrett made a comeback this Sunday it would have been his first game back since his knee injury in September 2021. Now with the Achilles tendon injury suffered this past Wednesday Verrett won’t be back until November 2023. He’s tried many times to come back but had injuries which required long recoveries.

#4 The 49ers will have to regroup as a team after the Verrett injury and hope that his absence won’t have an impact on the team’s morale going into this Sunday’s game against the Chargers.

#5 Joe, the Chargers have been playing some good football and have won four of their last five games. Their last win came against the Atlanta Falcons in a narrow 20-17 victory in Atlanta. Please size this one up as the Chargers and 49ers duel at Levi Stadium for Sunday Night Football with a 5:20pm kick off.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Marko Ukalovic: Still counting votes in Santa Clara Mayor race; 49ers York has over $4 million invested in race

Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor pictured is waiting for results as well as her opponent City Councilman Anthony Becker in the Santa Clara Mayoral race. (NBC Bay Area TV still photo)

On the 49ers podcast with Marko:

#1 San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has over $4 million invested in the Santa Clara Mayoral race. York is hoping his spending money would land City Councilman Anthony Becker the Mayor’s job. Becker has backed the 49ers as current Mayor Lisa Gillmor has fought the 49ers on payments to the city for maintenance revenue.

#2 Marko as of Thursday night the race is tight with Gillmor in front with a slight lead 50.1 to Becker’s 49.8. This is a closely watched race because the 49ers have so much at steak in the Mayoral election. The 49ers have their hopes on Becker especially after the city council had voted to approve the over $1 million the 49ers paid in the maintenance fees.

#3 It was also reported that the 49ers this past election day had spent another $62,353 which means the 49ers have now spent a total of $4.6 million which works out to $80 per Santa Clara resident. If Gillmor was to win this election how will this change the relationship dynamic between the 49ers and Gillmor?

#4 On the field the 49ers are coming off a bye from last Sunday and a win over the Los Angeles Rams the week before. The mood in the dressing room and at practice has been positive since the win in the Southland.

#5 The 49ers are at home for Sunday Night Football Nov 13th against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers have been rolling wining four of their last five games. The Chargers defeated the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday 20-17 in Atlanta. How do you see this match on Sunday Night Football?
