The Oakland Roots SC played the final home game of their 2026 USL season on Saturday, October 10, 2026, and with that, they said Adiós.

The Oakland Roots were paying a flat fee ranging from $138,000 to $300,000 per game (or about $135,000 to $297,000 under original agreement terms), depending on attendance numbers, which are between 5,000 and 5,300 per game; this is not nearly enough to pay the rent for games at the Oakland Coliseum.

Today, the only professional sports team playing in Oakland is the Oakland Ballers Baseball Team of the Pioneer League (a league not connected with Minor or Major League Baseball), with all home games at Raimondi Park, 1800 Wood St, Oakland (West Oakland neighborhood), with an average attendance of 2,000 to 2,500.

The City of Oakland has now lost four professional sports teams: the Raiders, Warriors, A’s, and Roots.

Once, the City of Oakland was known as the “City of Champions”.
