On Las Vegas podcast with Tony R:

#1 Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew led the Raiders with three scoring drives in fourth and critical last quarter of the game.

#2 Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson got off a 38 yarder with 27 seconds left in the game and the Raiders were able to get by a very tough Baltimore Ravens team 26-23.

#3 The Ravens looked like they had this one when running back Derrick Henry rushed for a touchdown to give the Ravens a ten point 23-13 lead with 12 minutes left in game.

#4 Minshew once again reached down and went for the gusto and led the Raiders with three scoring drives which was the huge difference coming back against one of the toughest teams in the NFL for the win.

#5 The Raiders host a struggling Carolina Panthers team that have lost their first two games of the season. The Panthers could be easy work for the Raiders having this game back at Allegiant Stadium and Minshew firing on all cylinders.

49ers Offense Stalled By Minnesota Vikings 23-17

Minnesota Vikings linebacker Blake Cashman (51) breaks up a pass that was intended for San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszcyk (44) in second half action at US Bank Field in Minneapolis on Sun Sep 15, 2024 (AP News photo)

By Barbara Mason

The San Francisco 49ers (1-1) came up a touchdown short losing to the Minnesota Vikings (2-0) 23-17 in a game that was not their finest hour. Quarterback Brock Purdy finished with 297 yards, one touchdown and one interception. They did rally in the third quarter but both George Kittle and Nick Bosa were helped off the field during the quarter. They also had three fumbles although two were recovered.

Game recap: The first quarter of this game was all defense. The only scoring in the opening quarter was a Minnesota field goal. Viking kicker Will Reichard kicked a 22 field goal and going into the second quarter Minnesota led 3-0.

The offensive effort got going in earnest in the second quarter by both teams. The Vikings extended their lead five minutes into the quarter when quarterback Sam Darnold connected with Justin Jefferson for 97 yards and the first touchdown of the day. The extra point was good and Minnesota had a 10-0 lead.

The first half was looking like a wash when the 49ers finally scored with 1:53 left on the clock. Quarterback Brock Purdy hit one of his favorite targets George Kittle for seven yards and San Francisco’s first points.

The extra point was good and the 49ers had cut the Minnesota lead to 10-7. The Niners needed to take that score into the locker room at the half but the Vikings drove downfield kicking a second field goal as the clock ran out on the second quarter. A Will Reichard 39 yard field goal gave the Vikings a 13-7 lead at halftime.

Minnesota scored their second touchdown of the day at 6:49 in the third quarter. Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold had his second touchdown of the day, a 10 yard connection with Jalen Nailor extending their lead 20-7.

San Francisco had a hole to dig out of and they did not start making any noise until the fourth quarter. The Minnesota defense was making life miserable for the 49ers so far in this game and San Francisco had a lot of work to do in the fourth quarter.

The Niners did score twice in the fourth quarter but they came up just short. Running back Jordan Mason scored a touchdown at 10:16 rushing for ten yards. Jake Moody kicked a 31 yard field goal with the clock running down and 1:12 left in the game. The Minnesota Vikings had kicked a 27 yard field goal at 3:30. The final was 23-17 in favor of the Vikings. San Francisco had come up a touchdown short against a very tough Vikings team.

San Francisco really struggled in this game. A collection of fumbles (they had 3 but only lost 1) and a Purdy interception didn’t do much for their cause. San Francisco got some exceptional yardage from Purdy with 291 yards, Jordan Mason’s 100 yards and Deebo Samuel’s 110 receiving yards.

George Kittle had 76 receiving yards. Two San Francisco players were helped off the field in the game. George Kittle went to the locker room in the third quarter but does not appear to be hurt suffering from cramps. It snowballed when Nick Bosa was also helped off the field in the same quarter. It was a frustrating game for San Francisco. On paper the stats were positive but on the field it did not translate.

Game notes: Sunday afternoon, the 49ers traveled to Minnesota to take on Vikings at US Bank Stadium. Christian McCaffrey did not take the field in this game missing his second straight game. It was reported that he will miss four games after being put on injured reserve with calf tightness and achilles tendinitis. Last week Jordan Mason had a terrific game rushing for 140 plus yards and replaced McCaffrey in his absence.

Mason has been doing a bang up job and has been a solid addition to the Niners rushing game. U.S. Bank Stadium was rocking in this game and San Francisco was fighting the Vikings with the deafening noise from the 66,741 fans attending the game today.

The 49ers have a lot to digest as they prepare for their game next Sunday in Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium against their rivals, the Rams. Los Angeles was getting stomped by the Cardinals in the first half of their game 24-3 but they were on the Arizona three yard line. The Rams would get their get their heads handed to them in a 41-10 victory on Sunday.

The Niners are favored but they will have to deal with the Stafford/Cupp connection. Despite that, San Francisco has all the weapons needed for a win in this game. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 1:25 PM PT in the Southland.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Raiders get game winner on Carlson’s field goal to defeat Lemar and Ravens 26-23

Las Vegas Raiders kicker Dan Carlson (2) kept busy kicking field goals against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. Carlson would kick the game winning field goal with 27 seconds left in the fourth quarter for the win for the Raiders first win of the season on Sun Sep 15, 2024

On the Raiders podcast with Rich Perez:

#4 Things really got interesting in the fourth quarter the Ravens Derrick Henry rushed for three yards to put the Ravens on top by ten 23-13 at 12:11. The Raiders would counter with 25 yard field goal by Daniel Carlson at 9:21 and at 3:54 Devante Adams caught a one yard pass from quarterback Gardner Minshew to tie it up at 23-23.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor: Suspect in Pearsall shooting shouldn’t face attempted murder charges says public defender

San Francisco 49ers Ricky Pearsall wide receiver walks on the field during Sun Sep 9, 2024 against the New York Jets at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara on Monday Night Football (AP News photo)

On the SF 49ers podcast with David Zizmor:

#1 San Francisco 49ers first round draft pick and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall who was on the field during Monday Night Football against the New York Jets looked like he was ready to suit up. Pearsall who is on the NFL IL for four weeks is chomping at the bit to get in.

#2 The attorney for the unnamed 17 year suspect who shot Pearsall according to his attorney San Francisco public attorney Bob Dunlap said that new video evidence proves that the suspect should not be charged with attempted murder where Pearsall and the suspect wrestled for the suspect’s gun during an armed robbery.

#3 The 49ers kick off against former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Sam Darnold. Darnold in week one against the New York Giants was pretty much in control avoiding the Giants rush and able to hit his targets going 19-24 for 208 yards and two touchdowns. David how do you see this match up with the 49ers and Vikings this Sunday.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: Critics question Pierce’s decision to punt rather go for it in 4th quarter decision

Lots of questions for Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce regarding the decision to punt on 4th and 1 at the Los Angeles Chargers 34 with just over seven seconds left in the game rather than going for it in a post game conference at So Fi Stadium on Sun Sep 8, 2024 (AP News photo)

On the Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony R:

#1 With the Las Vegas Raiders behind the Los Angeles Chargers by six points with a little more than seven minutes left and fourth and one with the Raiders having the ball head coach Antonio Pierce chose to not to go for it but decided to punt. He’s been getting a landslide of criticism for the decision and some say that decision lost the game on Sunday.

#2 The ball was punted from the 43 yard line. So Fi Stadium had a lot of old Los Angeles Raiders fans there to support the Las Vegas team and when the decision was made to punt you could hear the groans of the fans playing Sunday quarterback in disagreeing with the decision.

#3 Raiders starter Gardner Minshew didn’t have the kind of afternoon under center that had planned for 257 yards, just one touchdown and one interception.

#4 Peirce explained that the defense could have got the ball back with enough time to get the winning touchdown. Critics argue Peirce should have struck while the iron was hot.

#5 The Raiders head to Baltimore to take on the Ravens who are coming off a 27-20 loss to Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs. Ravens quarterback LaMar Jackson could be a handful for the Raiders defense will need to put the pressure on in order to have a shot at winning this one. Seeing how the Raiders struggled against the Chargers in the fourth quarter how can the Raiders turn it around Sunday in Baltimore?

49ers Win Season Opener Beating Aaron Rodgers and the Jets 32-19

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rogers (8) drops back against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara on Mon Sep 9, 2024 (AP News photo)

By Barbara Mason

San Francisco 49ers (1-0) started off with some early season jitters but cleaned them up by the second quarter. They beat the New York Jets (0-1) 32-19. Jake Moody kicked six field goals in this game; he was perfect. Jordan Mason tore up the field amassing 147 rushing yards and Brock Purdy finished with 221 yards but no touchdowns.

Game recap: Both teams went three and out on their respective opening drives. The San Francisco front line had their hands full protecting quarterback Brock Purdy. The Jets defense is a good one and Purdy was forced to get the ball out quick. The Niners did not see a whole lot of Purdy in the pre-season which was the case across the league with most of the teams quarterbacks seeing little to no time in those three pre-season contests.

In the Jets second drive, San Francisco’s Fred Warner forced a Jets turnover and the 49ers were back in business. The Niners were not able to move the ball and had to settle for a Jake Moody 46 yard field goal and San Francisco had the early lead 3-0.

Both defensive fronts were doing a bang up job to start. In the Jets third drive Rodgers started to connect with his receivers driving into the red zone. Last season the Jets only had a 35% success rate in the red zone but that all changed Monday night. This fired up Jets team executed a great drive downfield culminating in a touchdown and taking the lead 7-3. Jets Running back Breece Hall rushed for three yards and the score.

The 49ers running back Jordan Mason was having great start and Purdy started connecting with his receivers as the clock began to wind down. As the first quarter came to an end San Francisco had driven into Jets territory starting the second quarter on the Green Bay 29 yard line. The 49ers offense stalled out again on this drive having to settle for another field goal, a 51 yard Jake Moody kick which was good and it was a one point game 7-6 favoring the Jets.

At 6:54 in the second quarter the 49ers overcoming a couple of red zone penalties fought their way into the end zone taking back the lead 13-7. Jordan Mason had scored in the drive but it was called back. San Francisco kept plugging away finally finishing the drive with a two yard Deebo Samuel rush.

As the game progressed, San Francisco had thrown off the opening day jitters and began to dominate the game both offensively and defensively. The Niners front line was doing an exceptional job giving Purdy plenty of time to throw the ball.

As the second quarter came to an end the 49ers extended their lead with a third Jake Moody field goal; this one a 31 yard attempt. He was 3 for 3 and the 49ers took a 16-7 lead into the locker room at the half.

San Francisco had improved with every play since the first snap. At halftime there were already some impressive stats. Jordan Mason had been a force in the first half of the game. He had 11 carries for 74 yards and even turned in a five yard catch.

He did score a touchdown which was called back. Not bad for a guy who was played sparingly last season. He had 40 carries in 17 games for 206 yards and three touchdowns. When you do the math, that comes out to 2.4 carries per game but Monday night he is on course for a 100 yard game in this season opener.

Brock Purdy started really firing on all cylinders finishing the first half with 106 yards. In the second half, San Francisco would be looking to continue dominating this game.

The 49ers continued where they left off in the first half driving downfield on their opening drive of the second half. This time Jordan Mason scored the touchdown on a five yard rush and there would be no penalty to call it back .

San Francisco had taken an impressive lead 23-7. Any worries regarding the absence of Christian McCaffrey were dismissed by Jordan Mason loud and clear. Mid-way through the third quarter, the Niners had a second interception and so far in this game it was all San Francisco.

As the third quarter began to wind down San Francisco had a great drive going but it turned out to be another stalled drive deep in Jet territory having to settle for a fourth field goal. Jake Moody was four for four sending a 53 yard kick through the uprights extending the San Francisco lead 26-7.

With 1:39 left in the third quarter, Aaron Rodgers had a free play and took full advantage of it finding Allen Lazard for 36 yards and the touchdown. The penalty called for defensive offside was declined. The two-point conversion attempt failed and the score was 26-13 in favor of the 49ers. San Francisco would take that lead into the fourth quarter.

San Francisco would tack on a fifth field goal in the fourth quarter, a 23 yard kick followed by a sixth field goal at 4:19 for 42 yards and Jake Moody was six for six tonight. The Jets would score a touchdown with 25 ticks left on the clock.

A second two-point conversion attempt also failed. A 3 yard pass from Tyrod Taylor to Xavier Gipson capped off the evening. The final was 32-19 and San Francisco had eight straight scoring drives in this game.

What a great start for the 49ers. Brock Purdy finished the game going 19 of 29 for 231 yards but no touchdowns. Jordan Mason finished with 28 carries, 147 yards and one touchdown. That is over five yards per carry for Mason.

The Niners had to settle for a few too many field goals kicking six in this game. The good news is that kicker Jake Moody was perfect in this game. The San Francisco front line did a great job protecting Purdy and giving him a lot of time.

It was a disappointing showing for the Jets. So much more was expected with Rodgers leading the team. They had an impressive start but it all went downhill as the game wore on.

Game notes: The San Francisco 49ers on the “big stage” on Monday Night Football took on the Jets and defeated them with authority 32-19. Monday night the 49ers got a good look at all the starters that were not seen in the pre-season and did not see Christian McCaffrey on Monday night. The Niners stopped former Green Bay Packer and now Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The 49ers defense held Rogers to 167 yards.

Next Sunday San Francisco will travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings who also won their first game of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:00 AM.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Raiders fall apart in fourth quarter; Chargers score two TDs to seal victory 22-10 at So Fi

Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Antonio Pierce works the sidelines against the Los Angeles Chargers at So Fi Stadium in Inglewood CA on Sun Sep 8, 2024 (AP News photo)

On the Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez:

#1 The Las Vegas Raiders and the Los Angles Chargers were involved in a defensive match up at So Fi Stadium in the Southland on Sunday afternoon. All the Chargers scoring were field goals through the first three quarters and a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

#2 Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew just couldn’t much offense going outside of a first quarter 31 yard touchdown pass to Alexander Mattison with 45 seconds left in first quarter.

#3 The only other score that the Raiders got was a Daniel Carlson’s 56 yard field goal at 10:30 in the fourth quarter. This was a contrast compared the one point 7-6 lead they held until the Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker booted a 24 yard field goal with 9:08 remaining in the third quarter to take the lead.

#4 The Raiders couldn’t stop the Chargers offense in the fourth quarter scoring two touchdowns one on a JK Dobbins 12 yard carry and a quarterback Justin Herbert ten yard pass to Ladd McConkey for ten yards and the Chargers came away with a 22-10 final.

#5 It’s off to Baltimore as the Raiders face one of the toughest quarterbacks in football in LaMar Jackson. The Ravens lost a tough one today against the Kansas City Chiefs losing by a touchdown 27-20 but after what happened to the Raiders today the defense will need to really regroup as it could be a long day for the defense trying to stop Jackson and the Ravens.

#1 Tony, wide receiver Devante Adams right now could be a hot commodity do you see them considering dealing him to fill some holes on the Raiders?

#3 Tony talk about Adams finish tenth for wide receivers for fantasy points that says alot about what they think of his handy work.
