#1 It has been since 1997 that San Jose last hosted the All-Star Game. What differences as host city and in the arena have you seen? It’s been a while since the East-West format change in the All-Star Game, do you see a big difference since the All-tar game has gone to the 3-on-3?

#2 San Jose has always been welcoming city for visiting hockey fans and are expected to extend that same warm hospitality again.

#3 Talk about the Sharks’ All-Stars Brent Burns, Erik Karlsson, and Joe Pavelski. This has to be something special playing in front of the home crowd.

#4 You were the media relations manager for the California Golden Seals. The team is now defunct, but what would an All-Star Game mean for the city of Oakland and a team like the Seals during that time?

#5 The Sharks will have 11 days off to the next game, which is Feb. 22 vs. Arizona. Working on defense, they’ve been giving up six goals a game and looking at goaltender Martin Jones so he won’t give up six goals a game.

#1 The Stanford Cardinal (9-10) hosted the Utah Utes (10-8) on Thursday night at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal dominated in the first half, but the Utes came back for the win 70-66.

#2 The last time the Utes won at Stanford was in 1971. Before last night’s game, the Utes had lost six straight games. but snapped that loss steak with a big win at Maples.

#3 Sedrick Barefield led the Utes with 18 points, and for Stanford, KZ Okpala led with 22 and Daejon Davis right behind with 17.

#4 The Cardinal’s Bryce Wills is the youngest player in the Pac-12. Cardinal head coach Jerod Haase says Wills is one of the most mature players that he’s coached for being the youngest player in the Pac-12.

#5 The Cardinal’s coaches discovered Wills at Iona Prep College on the New York Rens. He was a teammate of Stanford guard Cormac Ryan.

1. SJSU went cold last Saturday and got blown out by UNLV 94-56 in Las Vegas.

2. Former SJSU head coach Dick Tomey underwent treatment for lung cancer last week. Tomey coached the Spartans from 2005-2009.

3. SJSU wrapped up a brief, two-game road trip in Laramie, Wyo. against the Wyoming Cowboys Wednesday.

4. SJSU tight end Josh Oliver was the most targeted TE in the country a season ago.

#2 Damian Lillard led the Portland Trailblazers with 24 points as the Blazers defeated the Phoenix Suns 120-106. A big road win for the Blazers in the Valley of the Sun.

#3 The Washington Wizards got rolled by the Golden State Warriors 126-118 in the nation’s capital. The Warriors’ Stephen Curry led with 38 points.

#4 Minnesota vs. LA Lakers: Karl Anthony Towns scored 27 points and had 12 rebounds in the Minnesota Timberwolves win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night 120-105.

#1 The San Jose Sharks played to a victory just before the NHL All-Star break this Saturday with a win over the Washington Capitals 7-6 on Tuesday night, snapping a three-game losing streak.

#2 The Sharks didn’t want to host the NHL All-Star game in San Jose with a fourgame losing streak. That could have been another incentive to take it to the Caps in the overtime win.

#3 Lots of goals in for a 7-6 game, lots of offense, as the Sharks’ Logan Couture got the game-winning goal in overtime.

#4 There’s nothing like hosting an NHL-All Star game in your own rink. This has to be something special for the Sharks.

#5 It’s the skill competition Friday night and the NHL All-Star game Saturday night. Mary Lisa is covering both events and talks about how special this one will be.

That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary: Barry Bonds Snubbed by Cooperstown Again

SAN FRANCISCO–In case anybody has forgotten, Barry Bonds still holds the record for the all-time home run leader with 762 over his career. Since he arrived from Pittsburgh in the early 1990’s, I traveled on the road with the Giants and Bonds under manager Dusty Baker and I called many of his home runs specially at AT&T Park (now Oracle Park) by the McCovey Cove in San Francisco. The reason he is not in the Baseball Hall of Fame is not because of his on-the field performance. Similar to pitcher Roger Clemens, who also had the same results this time.

Barry Bonds received 59.1 percent of the vote. You need 75% to get in. So the question is: Will he ever be inducted, and if so, when? I really cannot answer those questions because humans vote, and where there are committees and humans vote for these things, we never know what’s going to happen.

What we know is that in 2015 players were no longer on the Hall of Fame ballot for a maximum of 15 years. Now, it’s 10 years. So my educated prediction would be that he will make it during the next three years, and if not then it is up to the Veterans Committee. A player of Bonds’ caliber you would think is not looking forward to that committee, but maybe that is the best he could do. Giants great Orlando Cepeda was inducted by the vote of a Veterans Committee.

In baseball, like in politics and many other things, everybody has an opinion. As a player, Bonds belongs in Cooperstown. His accusations of steroids use obviously is keeping him out, there is nothing else stopping him from Cooperstown. When he went to court in San Francisco, all the public heard was Balco Laboratories and all the terminology for the steroids he allegedly used. He and the Giants didn’t enjoy very good publicity during that ordeal. And it was a circus as other players and even Mike Murphy, the longtime Giants equipment manager, had to testify that the size of his head got bigger through the years.

In conclusion, to get elected to any Hall of Fame, you need friends. And, to be honest, Bonds has a shortage of those, as of today; but like anything in life, things can change.
