Are the 2026 Giants the worst Giants team ever?  You do the Math.

Before the 2026 season began, the Giants made history by becoming the first MLB team to hire a manager, Tony Vitello, directly from the college ranks with zero professional playing or coaching experience. Oracle Park in San Francisco is truly beautiful, reflecting the beauty of the City, but it has not been a very pleasant place this season.

Recently, the SFPD responded to a brawl at the park on Thursday night, which they say started as a verbal argument before turning violent and initially detaining seven people, arresting four and citing them with varied charges by person, from:”assault likely to produce great bodily injury: “disturbing the peace and “public nuisance”  I do not blame Vitello for the total performance of this team, but it is worth to mentioning that managment broke all the rules by this hiring before the season began.

This year’s San Francisco Giants team is dangerously close to becoming the worst San Francisco Giants team since they moved from New York to the ‘city by the bay’ in 1958. That team is the 1985 Giants, who ended with a record of 60-102.

As the Giants face the last-place Colorado Rockies (by one game in the standings) this Saturday at Oracle Park, they carry a record of 39-55.  You do the math. This San Francisco team will play 68 more games this season. Will they make history again?

San Francisco Giants podcast Lincoln Juarez:

#1 Lincoln, the Colorado Rockies down 2-1 but rallied in the top of the ninth inning scoring three runs to take a 4-2 lead. The Giants in the bottom of the ninth Rafael Devers hit a sac fly to center that scored Grant McCray but the Giants fell short with a 4-3 loss at Oracle Park.

#2 The game started with Rafael Devers hitting a 347 foot right field home run to give the Giants a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

#3 In the seventh inning Dever slugged a single to right field that scored Luis Arraez that gave the Giants a 2-1 lead.

#4 The Giants releiver Keaton Killan in relief couldn’t get anyone out and allowed three hits and three runs in the top of the ninth for the loss.

#5 Giants and Rockies at Oracle Park for game three of the four game set starting pitchers on Saturday at 1:05pm PDT for Colorado LHP Kyle Freeland (2-7 ERA 7.46) for San Francisco RHP Tyler Mahle (1-8 ERA 5.70).

SAN FRANCISCO – After just coming off their win against the Rockies last night, the San Francisco Giants were defeated by the Colorado Rockies, 4-3, in the second game of this four-game series. The Giants also celebrated Black Heritage Night in this Friday night game at Oracle Park. The Giants are also now 3-7 in their last 10 games.

This was now the two teams’ eighth matchup of the season, and the 2nd game played between them at Oracle Park this year. The first six games were played in Colorado, and the last five will be held in San Francisco. Tonight’s loss for the Giants have now made the series 5-3 so far in the season. Giants’ Rafael Devers would go perfect at bat, going 3-3 at the plate.

Colorado sent out RHP Tanner Gordon (0-2, 6.95) as their starting pitcher for this game. Gordon was and is still looking for his first win of the season. This was his fifth start of the 2026 season so far, and second straight against the San Francisco Giants.

Giants starting pitcher Robbie Ray got the game going with his first strikeout of the night on the Colorado Rockies’ Jake McCarthy. Then, for the rest of the first inning for both teams, nothing much offensively would get going.

Bottom of the 2nd inning, Giants’ Rafael Devers gets his 19th homer on a fly ball to right field. Devers’ slam would put the Giants on the board first, 1-0.

Top of the 5th inning, Colorado would finally get their offense going in the game, thanks to Jake McCarthy. McCarthy got himself his 18th double off Robbie Ray and brought in his teammate, Ezequiel Tovar, to score and tie the game at 1-1.

Robbie Ray’s night would end in the Top of the 6th inning. Ray would finish with 4 hits, 1 run, 4 strikeouts, and walked 6. Giants Dylan Smith would replace Ray, and Smith came in with the bases loaded and no outs and got out of it, stranding three of Robbie Ray’s runners.

Heading into the bottom of the 7th inning, the Giants are able to get some players on base to set up some of their players to bring them home. So on Rafael Devers at bat, he singles on a ground ball to right fielder Tyler Freeman. With that, Luis Arraez scores, Casey Schmitt heads to 3rd base, and Devers is at 1st.

Going into the final inning of the game, the Giants are holding on to their 1-point lead on the Colorado Rockies. The Giants send out RHP Caleb Kilian to close out the game. Kilian’s first batter is against Mickey Moniak, but Moniak would get a single on a ground ball to right fielder Jung Hoo Lee. Kilian’s next batter he walks and sets up Colorado with two runners on bases.

On Colorado’s 3rd batter, Jake McCarthy, he gets himself a single on a soft bunt ground ball to third base. Bases are now loaded with no outs at the top of the 9th inning. Then Colorado’s Kyle Karros singles on a ground ball to center field, bringing in 2 runs for the Rockies and now the lead. The score is now 3-2, with no outs. So Giants manager Tony Vitello changes pitchers; Erik Miller steps up to the mound.

On Miller’s first batter, Colorado’s Cole Carrigg got out on a sacrifice fly to left outfield, but bringing in his teammate Jake McCarthy. The score is now 4-2. Giants pitcher Erik Miller would finally get the 3rd out on a strikeout; however, the Giants are now down 2 runs after giving up 3 runs in the top of the 9th.

The Colorado Rockies make a pitching change that’ll hopefully close the game for them. They send out RHP Jordan Romano to face the San Francisco Giants Batters. Giants’ first batter for the bottom of the 9th is Drew Cavanaugh, who gets himself on base by being walked. Next, Grant McCray grounds it into a force out on 2nd, but manages to get on base. Giants have 1 out now as they try their best to come back and retake the lead and ultimately the win. McCray steals to 2nd base during the Giants’ Luis Arraez at bat.

Luis Arraez gets walked, and then on Casey Schmitt’s turn at bat. Schmitt hits a single on a line drive to center fielder Cole Carrigg. At first was called a catch, but after Giants challenged the call, it was overturned. The bases were loaded, and Rafael Devers got out on a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing in Grant McCray to score. The score was 4-3, and the Giants are down 1.

Ultimately, the Giants’ strong efforts on coming back after holding the lead for the majority of the game fell short. The Colorado Rockies would come back and win this game in a nail-biter. The winning pitcher would go to Colorado’s Antonio Senzatela (9-1), and the losing pitcher would go to the Giants’ Caleb Kilian (2-5).

Once again, these two teams return to see each other for the rest of the weekend, and after that the team will take a short break during the MLB All Star’s. The first day of the 2026 MLB All-Star Games will be on Tuesday, July 14th, 2026. Though the Giants will host the Rockies tomorrow, Saturday, July 11th, with first pitch being at 1:05 p.m. The starting pitchers will be Rockies LHP Kyle Freeland (2-7, 7.46) going up against Giants RHP Tyler Mahle (1-8, 5.70) on NBCS BA.
