#4 Amaury turning to the NFL the San Francisco 49ers still haven’t found a taker for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is it because some teams are shying away from his $25 million final year of his contract or teams who have looked into picking up Garoppolo have looked and were staying with what they had at quarterback.

#5 The Las Vegas Raiders according to UFC president Dana White blew an opportunity to get future Hall of Famers Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski before the 2020 season but former head coach Jon Gruden vetoed the deal.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: Getting to the bottom of the real reason why Brady and Gronk were not signed by Raiders

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady leaves the field after playing against the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC playoffs. Brady was seriously interested in joining the 2020 Las Vegas Raiders until former head coach Jon Gruden vetoed any notion of the idea of Brady coming to Vegas. (AP News file photo)

On the Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria:

#1 Tony, Las Vegas Raiders owner Marc Davis said involving a past move to get quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski was something he had no knowledge about.

#2 UFC president Dana White tried to bargain the idea but then Raiders head coach Jon Gruden shut down the deal and said it was not happening. Davis said yesterday quote “I don’t know man” regarding any deal for Brady or Gronkowski.

#3 White said that Brady was ready to be quarterback in Las Vegas for the 2020 season but Gruden for no given reason didn’t want either Brady or Gronkowski coming to Vegas. White said that Brady and Gronkowski were ready to sign with the Raiders and maybe the dynamic of the Raiders would have changed.

#4 Brady was eager and ready to play for the former Bay Area team as Brady comes from San Mateo and was excited about the idea and Gronkowski was ready for it too. If you had to speculate do you think jealousy played a part that had Gruden keep them out?

#5 The Raiders host Brady and Gronkowski’s former team the New England Patriots this Friday night and there is talk that the Raiders are about to release running back Kenyan Drake, Drake has 545 yards and three touchdowns in scrimmage and scouting reports say at 28 years old he’s got a lot of football left in him. Drake has a duel skillset in the running and passing game wouldn’t they Raiders need someone with that kind of talent?

#4 Joe, talk about the defense they held the Vikings to seven points is this reflective of the kind of defense the 49ers will have in the regular seaon?

49ers offense sloppy, defense the star of the show in 14-7 preseason win over Vikings

San Francisco 49ers defensive back Tayler Hawkins, center, celebrates with teammates linebacker Segun Olubi, left, and safety George Odum, right, after intercepting a pass during the second half against the Minnesota Vikings at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis (AP News photo)

by Marko Ukalovic

It’s only the preseason but things need to get cleaned up on the offensive side of the ball.

The San Francisco 49ers had another stellar performance by their defense, while the offense looked in preseason form in their 17-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday evening at U.S. Bank Stadium.

San Francisco improved to 2-0 on the preseason, while Minnesota dropped to 0-2.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan had his backup quarterbacks rotating every two series to start the game. The majority of the offensive and defensive starters, including Tre Lance and Fred Warner, sitting this one out as this was an opportunity for guys on the bubble to make an impression before the cutdown to from 85 to 80 happens on August 23rd.

The defense stood out on the Vikings first drive. An outside corner blitz led to Vikings quarterback Kellen Mond to force a throw up in the air only to have 49er cornerback George Odom intercept the ball and return it for 34 yards.

Another welcome sighting was the play of defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw. He recorded one sack and was in the backfield during his time in the first half. It was Kinlaw’s first game action since he tore his ACL last October.

The offensive side of the ball was another story in the first half. A combination of dropped by balls by three different players, penalties, bad pass protection from the offensive line led to just two Robbie Gould field goals as San Francisco trailed Minnesota 7-6 at halftime.

The 49ers were 1/7 on third down conversions and 0/2 on fourth down conversions in the first half.

San Francisco’s defense had three takeaways during the game and have six in the first two preseason games with five interceptions and one fumble recovery. The combo of Malik Turner and Sam Womack III were responsible for the fumble recovery.

Nate Sudfeld led a 14-play, 79 yard drive at the end of third quarter that resulted in a JaMycal Hasty two-yard rushing touchdown to give the Niners a 14-7 lead with 14:57 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Sudfeld finished the game 13 of 17 for 102 yards and one touchdown. Brock Purdy was 14 of 23 for 128 yards and no interceptions. Neither separated themselves for the backup quarterback job as they both played better in the second half.

Mond finished 10 of 20 for 82 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Sean Mannion was 10 of 15 for 65 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.

GAME NOTES: 49ers offensive lineman Alfredo Gutierrez made his NFL debut in the final two minutes of the game and received the game ball from Shanahan.

UP NEXT: San Francisco finishes out the preseason against the Houston Texans on Thursday 8/25 at 5:15pm at NRG Stadium.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor: 49ers pull off 17-7 win over Vikings; Are 49ers bluffing about dealing Garoppolo?

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette (15) tries to break a tackle by San Francisco 49ers cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields (36) at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Sat Aug 29, 2022 (AP News photo)

On the San Francisco 49ers podcast with David:

#1 Taking a look at today’s pre season game against the Minnesota Vikings at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis the 49ers defense kept them in check for most of the game.

#2 Taking a look at the quarterbacks and your evaluation of who might win a job as back up Nate Sudfeld and Brock Purdy in terms of accuracy and getting the offense in the red zone how did they do today against the Vikings?

#3 Some say in the press particularly NBC Sports that the 49ers are running a Jimmy Garoppolo bluff and they might very well keep him as back up?

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: McDaniels wasn’t kidding about rotating the offense

Miami Dolphins cornerback Nik Needham (40) breaks up a pass intended for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Isaiah Zuber (89) in first half action at Hard Rock Cafe Stadium in Miami on Sat Aug 20, 2022 (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Rich:

#1 Rich, Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels wasn’t fooling around when he said he wanted to get a look at everybody on the offense and did so starting with using all three back up quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham, Nick Mullens, and Chase Garbers.

#2 Rich, Garbers executed what he learned at Cal with a few keepers while under center with two carries for 46 yards.

#3 Zamir White Raiders running back carried five times for eight yards and a touchdown he’s looking to break in the line up.

#4 For the Raiders wide receivers Jesper Horsted and Keelan Cole led in carries with three didn’t score a touchdown but McDaniels got them some looks while on the run.

#5 Rich last pre season game will be at Allegiant Stadium on this Fri Aug 26th there is little doubt that McDaniels will get quarterback Derek Carr a few snaps in that one just before the regular season starts.
