Headline Sports podcast with Charlie O: Raiders go for third straight win against Chargers today at Allegiant; 49ers start Dobbs at QB in Arizona today; plus more news

Owner Mark Davis (left) and Head coach Antonio Pierce (right) and the Las Vegas Raiders will try and win their third straight game today at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas against the Los Angeles Chargers in the final regular season game for 2024-25. A win would most likely save Pierce’s job as head coach. (AP News photo)

On Headline Sports with Charlie O:

#1 Season comes to a close for the Las Vegas Raiders today as they close it out against the Los Angeles Chargers at Allegiant. The Raiders since coming off a ten game losing streak have won two straight against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New Orleans Saints. The Chargers are playoff contenders and have one of the smartest coaches in the NFL on the sidelines with Jim Harbaugh at the helm. How do you see this match up today and the Raiders really want to finish the season with a win.

#2 The San Francisco 49ers have run into all sorts of problems all season long with numerous injuries and having lost six of their last seven games and coach Kyle Shanahan will not be starting quarterback Brock Purdy but Joshua Dobbs will be under center against the Arizona Cardinals for a 1:25pm PST kick off at State Farm Stadium in Glendale to conclude the regular season.

#3 After the truck attack in New Orleans French Quarter on New Years Day on Wednesday that killed 14 victims that suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar ran over. Jabbar had fire arms and explosives in the truck after it was found by law enforcement authorities. It got worse as Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart’s father had fallen and broke his hip and died in surgery. Smart’s father Sonny fell in New Orleans and it was reported that complications arose but Sonny was not able to overcome his injuries. The game was played on Thursday even though it was suggested that it should have been canceled the Notre Dame Fighting Irish dominated the Bulldogs 23-10.

#4 Taking a look at the San Francisco Giants inability not being able a headliner free agent either last season with players like Carlos Correa, Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, or this year with Juan Soto, Blake Snell, Corbin Burnes, and most likely high profile pitcher Roki Sasaki will not choose to come to San Francisco either. So after taking a look at last season and this season it can’t be the faults of former Giant president Farhan Zaidi or current president Buster Posey it’s obvious they don’t have a final say on how the money is spent. Baseball players and agents talk amongst themselves and they can’t be fooled. Do you think it’s the way the Giants top brass have either tightened their belts or just some of the behind the scenes politics or the way they operated that involves CEO Larry Baer or owner Charles Johnson that may play into players not signing in San Francisco?

#5 Just a question on the Sacramento Kings after losing six game in row, five of them under former head coach Mike Brown and rebounding winning three in a row under new interim head coach Doug Christie is it too early to say the Kings are back on track or are they back on track?

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: Pierce surviving will he save his job? Raiders can make it 3 in row against Chargers Sunday

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers (16) celebrates with tight end Brock Bowers (89) after catching a 3 yard touchdown in the first half against the New Orleans Saints at the Super Dome in New Orleans on Sun Dec 29, 2024 (AP News photo)

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria:

#1 Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce and the Las Vegas Raiders won their second straight game in row this time at the Super Dome in New Orleans 25-10. The win stunned both Raider and Saints nations for different reasons, the Raiders have struggled all season and the Saints had home field and thought they could win this one.

#2 Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell had an afternoon throwing for two touchdowns these were big in helping the Raiders win this one.

#3 The Raiders Brock Bowers set a two rookie records breaking a record held by catching seven passes for 77 yards and that gave him 108 receptions for 1144 yards in 16 games that passes Mike Ditka’s 1961 rookie tight end record of 1067 yards,  it also breaks Puka Nacua’s 2023 record of 105 catches by a rookie at any position.

#4 The big key for this game was the Raiders defense they shutout the Saints in the first, third and fourth quarters to help with the win.

#5 The Raiders face the Los Angeles Chargers next Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for the last game of the season. Talk about how you see this game and the Raiders wrapping up the season.

Headline Sports podcast with Jessica Kwong: Giants continue to struggle lose by 4 pts to Commanders; Jets and Rogers pull off a win over Titans 24-17; plus more NFL news

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones (8) throws and incomplete pass past Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu (4) in a two point conversion attempt at Northwest Stadium in Landover MD on Sun Sep 16, 2024 (AP News photo)

On Headline Sports podcast with Jessica:

#1 Jessica, the New York Giants (0-2) continue to struggle they lost last Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders (1-1) in Washington. the Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels threw 23-29 for 226 yards. The game had to be frustrating for the Giants losing by a field goal 21-18.

#2 Jessica, the New York Jets (1-1) got into the win column pulling off a win against the Tennessee Titans (0-2). What helped the Jets in the second half was their defense stopping the Titans allowing just one touchdown while the Jets scored ten points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth quarter for the 24-17 win. Jets quarterback Aaron Rogers threw for 18-30, 176 yards, and two touchdowns.

#3 The Miami Dolphins (1-1) on Thursday Night Football Sep 12th got blown out by the Buffalo Bills (2-0) at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami 31-10. The Bills came out blazing on offense doing most of the damage scoring 17 points in the second quarter. Bills quarterback Josh Allen was 13-19 for 139 yards, and one touchdown.

#4 The Los Angeles Chargers (2-0) picked up their second straight win last Sunday over the Carolina Panthers (0-2) at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The Chargers came out scoring 20 points in the first half and that pretty much put it our of reach for the Panthers. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert threw for 130 yards and was 14-20 with two touchdowns.

#5 In a low scoring game in Denver the Broncos (0-2) couldn’t get any traction against the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0) in a low scoring game 13-6. While both defenses did their job the Broncos quarterback Bo Nix couldn’t convert any touchdowns and the Broncos only scoring were two field goals in the fourth quarter. Nix was 20-35 for 117 yards with no touchdowns. The Steelers quarterback Justin Fields went 13-20 for 117 yards and one touchdown.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: Critics question Pierce’s decision to punt rather go for it in 4th quarter decision

Lots of questions for Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce regarding the decision to punt on 4th and 1 at the Los Angeles Chargers 34 with just over seven seconds left in the game rather than going for it in a post game conference at So Fi Stadium on Sun Sep 8, 2024 (AP News photo)

On the Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony R:

#1 With the Las Vegas Raiders behind the Los Angeles Chargers by six points with a little more than seven minutes left and fourth and one with the Raiders having the ball head coach Antonio Pierce chose to not to go for it but decided to punt. He’s been getting a landslide of criticism for the decision and some say that decision lost the game on Sunday.

#2 The ball was punted from the 43 yard line. So Fi Stadium had a lot of old Los Angeles Raiders fans there to support the Las Vegas team and when the decision was made to punt you could hear the groans of the fans playing Sunday quarterback in disagreeing with the decision.

#3 Raiders starter Gardner Minshew didn’t have the kind of afternoon under center that had planned for 257 yards, just one touchdown and one interception.

#4 Peirce explained that the defense could have got the ball back with enough time to get the winning touchdown. Critics argue Peirce should have struck while the iron was hot.

#5 The Raiders head to Baltimore to take on the Ravens who are coming off a 27-20 loss to Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs. Ravens quarterback LaMar Jackson could be a handful for the Raiders defense will need to put the pressure on in order to have a shot at winning this one. Seeing how the Raiders struggled against the Chargers in the fourth quarter how can the Raiders turn it around Sunday in Baltimore?

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Raiders fall apart in fourth quarter; Chargers score two TDs to seal victory 22-10 at So Fi

Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Antonio Pierce works the sidelines against the Los Angeles Chargers at So Fi Stadium in Inglewood CA on Sun Sep 8, 2024 (AP News photo)

On the Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez:

#1 The Las Vegas Raiders and the Los Angles Chargers were involved in a defensive match up at So Fi Stadium in the Southland on Sunday afternoon. All the Chargers scoring were field goals through the first three quarters and a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

#2 Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew just couldn’t much offense going outside of a first quarter 31 yard touchdown pass to Alexander Mattison with 45 seconds left in first quarter.

#3 The only other score that the Raiders got was a Daniel Carlson’s 56 yard field goal at 10:30 in the fourth quarter. This was a contrast compared the one point 7-6 lead they held until the Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker booted a 24 yard field goal with 9:08 remaining in the third quarter to take the lead.

#4 The Raiders couldn’t stop the Chargers offense in the fourth quarter scoring two touchdowns one on a JK Dobbins 12 yard carry and a quarterback Justin Herbert ten yard pass to Ladd McConkey for ten yards and the Chargers came away with a 22-10 final.

#5 It’s off to Baltimore as the Raiders face one of the toughest quarterbacks in football in LaMar Jackson. The Ravens lost a tough one today against the Kansas City Chiefs losing by a touchdown 27-20 but after what happened to the Raiders today the defense will need to really regroup as it could be a long day for the defense trying to stop Jackson and the Ravens.

On Headline Sports podcast with Charlie O:

#1 Charlie the Las Vegas Raiders kick off in Los Angeles today against the Chargers at So Fi Stadium. The Raiders will be starting Gardner Minshew who was the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings last season. Minshew just edged out Aidan O’Connell for the starting job.

#2 The San Francisco 49ers open up their season against the New York Jets at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara for Monday Night Football. The 49ers are sighing with relief after the recent signings of wide receiver Brandon Ayiuk and offensive tackle Trent Williams.

#3 One of the most impressive things about the recovery of shooting victim and first round draft pick Ricky Pearsall is while in the hospital less than 24 hours after being shot he wanted to get on field practice, workout and get ready for Monday Night Football. Coach Kyle Shanahan said for Pearsall to reign it in and Pearsall is on the four week non football injury illness list.

#4 Turning to Major League Baseball, talk about a tough turnaround the Oakland A’s played a 13 inning game on Friday night which ended around 1030pm and had to be back at the Coliseum Saturday morning for a day game. The A’s battled the Detroit Tigers Friday in a game that was knotted up 6-6 until the A’s Seth Brown hit a bottom of the 13th inning RBI single scoring the ghost runner for the 7-6 win.

#5 The A’s are nearing the very end of the tenure in Oakland. Today is their last home game on this current homestand wrapping it up with the Detroit Tigers. Their next homestand will be the A’s last homestand in Oakland ever. Their very last home game will be Thu Sep 26 afternoon. You’ve been here for many years covering that’s going to be a tough send off as the A’s leave Oakland. How much from a business and an economical standpoint do you see this relocation being a mistake?

Tony talks about possible scenarios for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Devante Adams for the 2023 season (USA Today file photo)

On the Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony R:

#1 Tony, wide receiver Devante Adams right now could be a hot commodity do you see them considering dealing him to fill some holes on the Raiders?

#2 Adams came to the Raiders and since has seen four quarterbacks come and gone, Derek Carr, Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O’Connell and now Gardner Minshew. Talk about the adjustments that Adams had to make during these changes.

#3 Tony talk about Adams finish tenth for wide receivers for fantasy points that says alot about what they think of his handy work.

#4 Tony, there those particularly in New York who would like to see Adams join Jets quarterback Aaron Rogers but could you see Adams going to one of the hottest offenses in football the Detroit Lions with quarterback Jared Goff under center and they got to the NFC Championship last season?

#5 Opening day next Sunday at So Fi Stadium and the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers traditionally have given the Raiders challenges over the years but this year being no exception with head coach Jim Harbaugh at the helm how do you see these two teams tangling in Week one.

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Nathan Peterman (10) on a give to running back Daniel Laube (23) against the San Francisco 49ers in first half action at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Fri Aug 23, 2024 (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Tony R:

#1 Tony when you take a look at the Raiders-49ers contest last Friday which resulted in a 24-24 tie what were some of the take aways for you in that last pre season game?

#2 Talk about wide receiver Tyriek McAllister’s 81 yard return in the second quarter. It’s been speculated that prior to the return McAllister may not have even been on head coach Antonio Pierce’s radar after a return like that no doubt Pierce has to sit up and take notice?

#3 Coach Pierce did say he did notice some flashes from McAllister in practice but in a game situation Pierce said McAllister moved the needles.

#4 Game’s tied with 16 seconds left in the game and the 49ers held a 24-21 lead and Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson boots a 43 yarder to tie it up for a 24-24 final score. Talk about how important Carlson will be going into the 2024 season?

#5 How surprised were you that coach Pierce chose to start Nathan Pederman over Carter Bradley?

#6 Pederman in the first half threw 12-19 for 108 yards and one touchdown. In the second half it was Bradley who led the Raiders for that final drive to get Carlson in field goal range. Bradley threw 9-21 for 169 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

#7 Raiders open up the 2024 season this Sunday Sep 8th at So Fi Stadium in the Southland against the Los Angeles Chargers with a 1:05pm PT kick off. Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Raiders McAllister scores big return; Carlson boots field goal for 24-24 draw with 49ers

The Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Tyriek McAllister (32) returns a 81 yard punt in the second quarter against the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Fri Aug 23, 2024 (AP News photo)

On the Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich:

#1 Last week when the Raiders took a 27-12 loss to the Dallas Cowboys their quarterbacking was suspect. Friday night against the San Francisco 49ers a closer game with Raiders quarterback Carter Bradley under center was this the best game you have seen for a Raider quarterback this pre season?

#2 Bradley was 9-21, 169 yards and threw for a touchdown and kept the Raiders in the game pretty much most of the way.

#3 Rich talk about some of the scoring in this game from the Raiders starting with the Raiders Tyreik McAllister returning a 81 yard punt in the second quarter that was a return that inspired this team tonight.

#4 Going into the fourth quarter the 49ers looked like they were going to finish this game a winner leading 24-21 but with 16 seconds left the Raiders kick Daniel Carlson booted a 43 yard field goal to tie it up 24-24 for the final score.

#5 The Raiders now open the season at So Fi Stadium Sun Sep 8th in the Southland. The Raiders taking on rival the Los Angeles Chargers. How important how big is this one for the Raiders to get the opener in the win column under their belts?

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: Raiders not allowed fans or media in training camp at Costa Mesa

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Ron Stone is all smiles as he arrives at Costa Mesa for training camp on Tue Jul 23, 2024 (photo by the Las Vegas Raiders)

On the Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria:

#1 The NFL has implemented numerous restrictions on the Las Vegas Raiders who decided to use Costa Mesa in Los Angeles for training camp. Since the Raiders are not the home team tenant and the Rams and Chargers are the Raiders must adhere to the rules of the NFL and will not be permitted to have their fans watch practice.

#2 The Raiders in addition of not being allowed to have their fans watch practice the Raiders are not allowed to market, broadcast or promote that they will be holding training camp at Costa Mesa.

#3 Also the league has told the Raiders that the media will not have access to training camp at Costa Mesa to cover, interview or file reports at the Los Angeles stadium. The league will allow a handful of season ticket holders and VIPs to attend practice during the Raiders 18 day stay at Costa Mesa.

#4 Raiders owner Mark Davis didn’t protest and said it’s the Rams and Chargers facility and he understands that’s their policy saying it would be nice if all the fans could have access to watch training camp but the Raiders are prepared to work with the Rams and Chargers.

#5 The Raiders still have fans in the Southland they played in Los Angeles from between 1982-94 and while they’ll be some sore fans who won’t have access to Costa Mesa they’ll just have to prepare for the pre season to have access to watch them live in August.
