#1 At the end of the second quarter the Raiders (2-9) held a 13-9 lead over the visiting Denver Broncos (7-5) at Allegiant Stadium after kicker Daniel Carlson added a three point field goal at with no time left to end the first half. At that juncture it would appear the Raiders had some confidence going into halftime.

#2 It didn’t last long the Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton caught a 18 yard pass from quarterback Bo Nix to take the lead for good 16-13 at 10:49 in the third quarter it was the only scoring by either team in the third quarter.

#3 The Broncos in the fourth quarter kicker Will Lutz hit a 45 yard field goal at 12:05 and the Broncos went up by six. The Raiders at 8:59 kicker Carlson hit a 53 yard field goal to cut the lead to 19-16. The Broncos scored a touchdown on Courtland Sutton two yard touchdown at 5:30 to increase their lead at 26-16. Carlson at 3:38 came back out and hit a 22 yard field goal Raiders cut the Broncos lead to seven points 26-19. The Broncos Lutz again hit another field goal this one for 33 yards and the Broncos raised their lead to ten points 29-19.

#4 Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew went 25-42 for 230 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Minshew had another outing struggling to score touchdowns in the second half.

#5 The Raiders try it all over again this Fri Nov 29th at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City against the Chiefs. The Chiefs who finally lost a game come into Friday’s contest 10-1 winning their last game against the Carolina Panthers 30-27 on Sunday. How do you see this on with the Chiefs on deck.

Cal edges Sac State 83-77 in wild and tougher-than-expected battle for fifth win

BERKELEY–The Bears are now off to a 5-1 start, but it was much tougher for them than anticipated, they battled through a wild game to pull off a 83-77 win over the Sacramento State Hornets at Haas Pavilion.

The Bears returned home from their first road trip to beat the Air Force Falcons Thursday night by a final of 78-69. Today, they welcomed in the Sacramento State Hornets, who came into today’s game at 1-3. The matchup seemed to be an easy one for the 4-1 Bears, but that would hardly be the case.

Cal got off to a fast start, as Christian Tucker hit a three right out of the gate. Emil Skytta was fouled and hit the first of two from the line to put the Hornets on the board, and then Mady Sissoko was fouled and hit both from the line to extend Cal’s lead to 5-1.

The Hornets then scored nine unanswered points to take a 10-5 lead, as Skytta led the way with a pair of layups, and Jacob Holt hit a three. After being fouled and hitting both shots from the line to make it 12-7, Skytta had scored seven of the Hornets’ first 12 points.

The Bears charged right back to score nine unanswered points of their own to go ahead 16-12. Jeremiah Wilkinson, fresh off his 23-point night on Thursday, checked in and hit a jumper and a layup, and Andrej Stojakovic hit all three from the line after he was fouled going for three. Lee Dort then slammed one down.

Joshua Ola-Joseph then hit a pair of threes, and Cal started to pull away, as they went up 27-18. The Bears would make it a 12-point game at 36-24 after a layup by Stojakovic with 4:04 to go, and they seemed to have this game under control.

However, the Hornets came out of nowhere to go on a 9-1 run, and that cut the Bears’ lead to just four at 37-33. Cal got a brief reprieve when Ola-Joseph was fouled going for three and hit all three from the line, and the Bears went into the half up 40-33.

The Hornets kept their momentum going into the second half, as Holt scored seven points in the first two minutes and 34 seconds, and the Hornets came back to tie it at 43-43. The next few minutes would be back and forth with Sac State taking the lead, and the Bears taking it right back.

The Bears would then pull away again, as they opened their lead all the way up to 15 at 73-58 with 5:52 to go. However, Sac State would charge back once again, as they went on a 17-7 run to close the deficit to 80-75 with 28 seconds to go.

The Bears would end up winning it by a final of 83-77. The game was much closer and tougher for the Bears than expected, but a win is a win nevertheless, and they are now off to a 5-1 start.

The Bears will close out the homestand when they take on the Mercyhurst Lakers on Wednesday. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m.

San Jose Barracuda split the series and beat the Toronto Marlies in a shootout 2-1

In his season debut, Gabriel Carriere records his first win making 31 saves on 31 shots and denying both players in the shootout. The San Jose Barracuda split the two game series with the Toronto Marlies. The Barracuda taking the second game on Sunday 2-1 in a shootout at Coca Cola Arena in Toronto.

San Jose was the first to go on the powerplay at 8:51 of the 1st after Roni Hirvonen took a holding penalty but couldn’t take advantage. Toronto then got their powerplay opportunity when Lucas Vanroboys took a seat for tripping. John McCarthy’s key to the game today was to get pucks to the net and the Barracuda did so outshooting Toronto 6-3 although being scoreless after the 1st.

The Barracuda went on the penalty kill early 37 seconds in when Ethan Cardwell took a tripping penalty. Toronto couldn’t take advantage of that and went on the penalty kill two minutes later when Robert Mastrosimone took a tripping penalty. With nine seconds left, Sam Stevens opens up the scoring in back to back games to give Toronto the lead. Toronto outshot San Jose 13-8 in the second so there’s no doubt one of those would go in.

seven seconds into the Barracuda’s fifth powerplay, Danil Guschin scored his third goal of the season tying the game at 1-1 in the third assisted by Luca Cagnoni and Filip Bystedt.

Regulation and overtime wasn’t enough and the game went to a shootout. First to shoot for the Marlies was Braeden Kressler who was denied. The Barracuda called upon Danil Guschin and he scored. The Marlies then sent out Logan Shaw who was also denied. With the opportunity to win it for the Barracuda, John McCarthy called upon Alternate Captain Andrew Poturalski who scored on a backhand shot.

#1 The Cal Bears (5-1) and the Sacramento Hornets (1-4) played some tight basketball at Haas Pavilion. Although the Bears had led for most of the game and came away with a 83-77.

# 2 Cal leading scorer Ryti Petraitis had the right touch on the ball making his shots and leading Cal in scoring Andrej Stojakovic with 20 points to defeat the Sacramento State Hornets.

#3 Cal has won five of their last six games and won three in a row and having the home floor the Bears heard the Hornets footsteps behind them in earlier parts of this game.

#4 The Hornets leading scorers Julian Vaughns and Jacob Holt were keeping Sac State in the game but Cal were able to do enough to keep the Hornets away with a ten point gap.

#5 Next game for the Golden Bears is against the Mercyhurst Lakers (4-3). The Lakers were crushed today by the Air Force Falcons (2-4) 82-48. The Bears should have a shot at getting this one Wednesday night at Haas Pavilion.

#1 San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is a scratch for today’s game in Green Bay as he is suffering a shoulder injury on throwing side. Purdy will miss his first game in three seasons as starting quarterback for the 49ers and didn’t miss a start when he was a quarterback in college.

#2 Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby who did not get a sack for the third straight week. To make matters worse Crosby was fined by the league for unsportsmanship like conduct and unnecessary roughness. Maxx was charged with kneeing, striking, and kicking Miami Dolphin players,.

#3 New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones requested a trade after being the starting quarterback after nine seasons. Jones is in a four year $160 million contract and has not performed at the level the Giants would expect: In ten games for the Giants Jones has completed 63% of his passes for 2970 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.

#4 Charlie turning to baseball news, former San Francisco Giants bench coach Aylssa Nakken has left the Giants to become an assistant for player development for the Cleveland Guardians. Nakken was the first female coach in Major League Baseball history on Arp 12, 2022. Former Giants manager Gabe Kapler brought her on board as a coach and she was a huge inspiration for girls and women softball and baseball players alike. Nakken will join former Giant coaches Craig Albernaz and Kai Correa. Albernaz is associate manager and Correa is a field coordinator. Former Giants catcher Stephen Vogt who is the Cleveland Guardians was mainly responsible for bringing Nakken on board.

#5 The MLB Baseball Writers Association of America have voted Shohei Ohtani the National League MVP and Aaron Judge the American League MVP. Ohtani win the MVP Award for the third straight time. Judge led MLB hitters with 58 home runs, 144 RBIs, 133 walks, and hit .322. Both Ohtani and Judge were in the 2024 World Series.

#1 Last Thursday Los Angeles Dodgers free agent pitcher Walker Buehler express no interest at all in pitching for the Sacramento A’s as acknowledged by A’s manager Mark Kotsay. Although Buehler didn’t say it that he would not want to sign up to play in a minor league park for multiple years.

#2 This considering Buehler had a rough 2024 season with 5.38 ERA with a 2.29 strike out to walk ratio. In spite of the opportunity from the A’s it was “thanks but no thanks” from the veteran pitcher.

#3 Just talking about other free agents how many will stay away from signing with the A’s and for the future of the A’s how many players will stay away because of low salaries and the A’s reputation for not being competitive.

#4 This whole idea of playing in a small minor league park, in a small market TV 20th in the country and it gets even worse when they move to Vegas they will be in the 40th size TV market the smallest in baseball do you agree that will keep players away?

#5 In spite of improvements to Sutter Health Ballpark with a two story clubhouse, putting bleachers in the right field grass area, new weight rooms, and modern facilities. It’s the whole concept of playing in a minor league facility there will still be a space problem no matter how hard the A’s and Sacramento River Cats try to improve it for MLB.

Joe Thornton Immortalized as Sharks Suffer Another Loss to Buffalo 4-2

A warm welcome back to Joe Thornton, as his number 19 will forever be retired, and the Sharks hosted the Sabres but the outcome was disappointing

SAN JOSE, CA –– It was a long afternoon for the Sharks as the celebrations began early. The team honored the life and legacy of Joe Thornton, who spent over 15 years of his 24-year NHL career in the Bay Area, as well as time in Boston, Toronto, and Florida. He gave his all to the sport of hockey.

During the celebration, former Sharks alumni, including Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski, were present to witness the second number retired in the Sharks organization’s history in the NHL.

It was a time to remember, rewind, and relive some of the greatest moments in hockey history in the Bay Area: those Stanley Cup runs, the Cup Final, and the Conference Finals that brought tears of joy and sadness. Joe Thornton is more than just a hockey player; he was loved for his character off the ice, his morals, and the way he treated everyone in the hockey community.

Jumbo was the last man to compete against Wayne Gretzky.

Speaking of the game, the San Jose Sharks (6-12-5) did not have a good road trip, suffering two losses in overtime against Dallas and St. Louis.

1ST PERIOD.

San Jose struck first with a clever play by W. Eklund and Jake Walman. Eklund sent the puck behind the goal to Zetterlund, who passed it back to Eklund. Walman then retrieved the puck and fired a powerful shot that was deflected by Buffalo’s goalie to Fabian in front of the net, who scored the first goal, dedicating it to Jumbo, making it 1-0.

Buffalo opened the scoring eleven minutes into the 1st period when Mario Ferraro passed to Timothy Liljegren, who deflected the puck into Buffalo’s zone. Bowen Byram retrieved the puck, but Liljegren lost possession, allowing Peyton Krebs to recover and tie the game for Buffalo.

Luke Kunin dropped the gloves against Sam Lafferty; neither player received major penalties, only roughing and cross-checking, and play continued at 5-on-5.

2nd PERIOD.

The game tied up in the second, and in the 1st period, it seemed San Jose was setting the tone, and Buffalo was just trying to keep up with it, and it was. Celebrini and Toffoli had chances to put more scoring up for the Sharks but were not able to finish those chances. The Sharks remained up for the whole period.

Luke Kunin, coming out from the Penalty box, gave the lead, netting the 2nd goal for the Sharks, assisted by Tyler Toffoli and Alexander Wennberg.

Sharks showed intensity throughout the period, preventing Buffalo from equalizing.

3rd PERIOD.

Happiness did not last long for the Sharks as the lead turned into an upcoming added loss to the standings, not a surprise against a team that is well positioned in the Atlantic division.

A total nightmare for the Sharks, three goals on the Sharks’ goal ruined what was going to be the cherry on top.

Buffalo’s tying goal, Dylan Cozens fighting in front of the net as Blackwood was unable to do anything or see the puck tied up the game.

 Four minutes later, Alex Tuch, with a shorthanded goal, nailed the third one for the visitors.

Once again, an empty netter that went against the Sharks minutes into the end of the 3rd period, the Sabres closed the game with three wins in a row. Rasmus Dahlin, from a distance, sent the puck to the Sharks’ neglected zone. Celebrini tried everything he could to prevent the puck from entering, but the attempt was not enough. A frustrated Macklin Celebrini slammed his stick against the post and broke it.

The Sharks are back at home once again vs. the Los Angeles Kings on Monday at 7:30 pm.

Cal Comeback: Mendoza, Bears Respond Late To Win the 127th Big Game, 24-21 Over Stanford

BERKELEY, CA–Anything with 127 occurrences is likely to produce one crazy, jaw-dropping outcome that trumps all the rest.

For Stanford and Cal, this wasn’t it. That Play took place a few years back. But for 30 Golden Bears’ seniors playing at Memorial Stadium for the final time, this was it.

For that group, a 24-21 come-from-behind win cements an extremely rare college career without a loss to hated rival Stanford.

“I’m glad we get to send everyone off the right way and keep the Axe where it belongs,” said Lu-Magia Hearns, one of the 30 triumphant seniors.

Cal played lethargically into the third quarter, trailing 14-0 after Stanford’s first two possessions, and 21-7 after the Cardinal fashioned a third, lengthy scoring drive after halftime.

Cal’s Nohl Williams took a hard hit on the ensuing kickoff and fumbled, which set up Stanford with a short field. With the Cardinal threatening to fashion a three-score lead, the Bears finally responded.

Three plays without a first down left Stanford to attempt a 35-yard field goal. But placeholder Connor Weselman mishandled the snap and attempted a pass instead. That pass fell incomplete, and Cal regained possession and new life.

A 12-play Bears’ drive culminated with Ryan Coe’s 46-yard field goal, and Cal trimmed the deficit to 21-10 with 47 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

After a three-and-out possession by Stanford, the Bears got moving with Fernando Mendoza’s 30-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Brady on a 3rd-and-6 play. After a non-productive first half, Mendoza said he honed in on Cal’s advantages with their top receivers battling an inexperienced Stanford secondary. Brady’s catch made it 21-16 after the Bears failed to convert a two-point attempt.

Another brief Stanford possession gave Cal the ball, but punter Aidan Flintoff pinned the Bears at their own 2-yard line. An 11-play drive, aided by a pair of Stanford penalties, covered 98 yards and gave Cal their first lead with 2:40 remaining. Again, Mendoza partnered with Brady on a third down pass play that left the receiver single covered in the end zone. This time, Cal picked up a critical, two-point conversion on a catch by Jadyn Ott to lead 24-21.

“I’ve never felt something so exciting,” Brady said. “It means so much to our fans. It was exciting to see a smile on their faces.”

“We never quit, and we found a way to win,” coach Justin Wilcox said. “That means a lot. There was a time when small people or weak people could have tried to find a way out… that it’s not going to be our day. A lot of people would have quit, honestly. It’s human nature.”

Aaron Rodgers, Marshawn Lynch and Ron Rivera headlined a vested group of Cal football alumni that attended the game, and Rodgers spoke to the team on Friday, which reportedly ramped up the team’s intensity.

The last time the Bears (6-5, 2-5) captured four consecutive meetings with Stanford was 2006. Under Wilcox, the Bears have won five of the previous six editions of the Big Game.

The Cal regular season concludes on Saturday against SMU in Dallas with the Bears afforded an opportunity to play spoiler to the Mustangs’ national title aspirations.

Stanford game wrap: Cardinal UnAble to Capture the Axe from Golden Bears, 24-21, in Big Game #127 & Senior Day in the East Bay

BERKELEY, Calif. — The Stanford Cardinal (3-8, 2-6 ACC) failed to confiscate the Axe from the longtime rival California Golden Bears (6-5, 2-5 ACC), 24-21, in the 127th matchup of the two historic Bay Area schools.

Stanford wasted no time at all in continuing their momentous play from the previous game’s upset. The Cardinal capitalized on their first possession gift, despite losing the coin toss. Cal deferred their possession until the second half, but may have soon regretted that decision.

Stanford took that drive down the field and scored midway through the quarter. Quarterback Justin Lamson rushed into the end zone for a one yard keeper. Right away the Cardinal were up 7-0. That was not the end of their first quarter scoring either.

On Stanford’s second possession, they duplicated the prior drive, with a little deviation. Lamson scored again on a keeper, but the second one was from two yards away. After two drives, with 1:27 left in the quarter, the Cardinal were up 14-0 in front of a full Memorial Stadium. The same score was in place after 15 minutes of play.

In the second quarter, with the teams switching sides of the field, Stanford’s consecutive scoring streak halted, and Cal managed to get off the goose egg. Redshirt-Sophomore QB Fernando Mendoza got his Bears going with a 50 yard scamper, deep into Cardinal territory. He later tossed a 16-yard TD pass to redshirt-junior receiver Trond Grizzell. California cut the deficit in half, 14-7.

Both teams had missed field goals from 50+ yards from the goal posts. After 30 minutes of regulation, Stanford led 14-7, but Cal was set to receive the kickoff at the beginning of the third quarter.

In the third stanza, not much happened for most of the quarter. Stanford used a trick play to expand their lead, with 6:33 left in the period. Running back Micah Ford threw a two yard touchdown to freshman WR Emmett Mosley V.. Stanford was up by two touchdowns (21-7), with a great deal of momentum.

Subsequently upon the kickoff, Cal fumbled the return, giving Stanford the ball on their own 20-yard line. A minute later, the Cardinal botched a FG attempt, and turned the ball over to the Golden Bears.

The home team parlayed that miscue into three points on their behalf, with :47 left in the quarter. Redshirt-senior kicker Ryan Coe converted a 46-yarder, which brought them within 11 points, 21-10. At the end of third quarter, Stanford still led 11, 21-10.

The final quarter had California continue to claw their way back into the contest, Mendoza threw a dart 30-yard touchdown pass to junior WR Jonathan Brady, to the delight of the Cal faithful. The Golden Bears were within five, but could not complete the two point conversion attempt, They were trying to get within three, which would only require a field goal to tie.

The Golden Bears were on a drive late in the quarter, putting themselves in position to win the Big Game And keep the Axe. With 2:40 left in the game, Mendoza to Brady happened again. The second time was for 22 yards, and they converted the two point conversion, putting the Bears up by three, 24-21.

Cal stole all the momentum from their arch rivals from across the bay, and got the raucous crowd into a frenzy. The Golden Bears completed the very unlikely comeback, after being down by 14 twice, and won by three, 24-21.

The Axe remains in Berkeley!

Stanford will next be in action Friday, November 29 in the Capital City of the Silicon Valley, to take on the San Jose State Spartans at 1:00 PM PST on CBS. Cal travels to Fort Worth, Texas to take on the Southern Methodist Mustangs, November 30, at 2:30 PM CST on ESPN2

San Jose Barracuda fall 3-0 in first game against Toronto Marlies

In Jimmy Schuldt’s first game as the Barracuda’s captain, the Barracuda fall to Toronto 3-0 at the Coca Cola Coliseum in Toronto. The San Jose Barracuda traveled to Toronto to take on the Marlies for a two game series for the first time in franchise history.

Outshooting the Barracuda 16-8 in the first, The Toronto Marlies got on the board on a Sam Stevens goal assisted by Logan Shaw and Cade Webber at 14:28 of the first period. After initially making the save, Romanov didn’t see Shaw in the corner of the net. With that goal, Stevens has his first goal of the season.

At 10:15 of the second, Ethan Cardwell took a tripping penalty and 8 seconds into the penalty kill, Roni Hirvonen scored his 2nd PPG of the season assisted by Nick Abruzzese and Topi Niemela. Coming into today’s game, San Jose’s PK was 88.3% and Toronto’s PP was 25.5%.

Being down 2-0 with a minute left of the 3rd, San Jose pulled Georgi Romanov leaving an empty net. This lead to an empty net goal scored by Ryan Tverberg assisted by Jacob Quillan to seal the deal to a 3-0 win for the first game of a 2 game series.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
