#1 How shocking was the shutout of the Pittsburgh Penguins (23-12-6) over Winnipeg (25-13-2) 4-0? For the Pens, Olli Maatta (1), Matt Cullen (4), Dominick Simon (4), and Kris Letang (10).

#2 The Detroit Red Wings (16-20-7) defeated the Nashville Predators (24-15-3) 4-3 in overtime. The Wings got scores from Andreas Athanasiou (15), Thomas Vanek (7), Tyler Bertuzzi (10), and Dylan Larkin (10) in OT.

#3 The Carolina Hurricanes (18-27-5) defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets (24-14-3) 4-2. For the Canes, Michael Ferland (12), Dougie Hamilton (5), Greg McKegg (1), and Sebastian Aho (16) were Friday night’s goal scorers.

#4 Tyler Seguin (14) and (15) was all the Dallas Stars needed for offense as Seguin scored in the first period and in overtime for a 2-1 win over the Washington Capitals Friday night.

#5 Later tonight, the San Jose Sharks (22-13-7) host the Tampa Bay Lightning (32-7-2). How do you see these two teams matching up at SAP Center?

2. The Detroit Lions announced Sunday that they placed cornerback DeShaw Shead on injured reserve with a knee injury and signed cornerback and SJSU alum Andre Chachere to the active roster from the practice squad.

3. On December 28, 2000, president Bill Clinton, California governor Gray Davis and SJSU president Robert L. Carat visited Neil Parry, a sophomore on the Spartans’ football team, who lost his leg from playing football.

4. 2019 went off to a bad start for SJSU men’s basketball as they got blown out by Fresno State 73-53 on Wednesday night.

#2 The Flames opened the game with three goals and finished the contest with three goals.

#3 The Flames remain on top of the Pacific Division with 52 points

#4 The Flames’ Matthew Tkachuk and Jimmy Gaudreau each had two goals. The Flames can really provide some offense.

#5 The Sharks first game of 2019 in Colorado on Wednesday night and the Sharks poured on the scoring with two in the first and three in the third. Down 5-1, the Avalanche rallied to pull within one goal in Wednesday night’s game.

#2 The Miami Heat (18-18) downed the Cleveland Cavaliers (8-30) 117-92. The Heat’s Josh Richardson led with 24 points.

#3 The Washington Wizards (15-23) get a 114-98 win over the visiting Atlanta Hawks (11-26) Alex Len led the Hawks with 24 points and Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 24 points.

#4 The Brooklyn Nets (18-21) got a five-point win past the New Orleans Pelicans (17-22) 126-121. For the Nets, D’Angelo Russell led the Pelicans with 22 points.

#5 The Boston Celtics (22-15) got a big win past the Minnesota Timberwolves (17-21) at the Garden. The Celtics’ Gordon Hayward led all scorers with 35 points.

#1 It was like a shootout on Sunday as the Barracuda just got by the Stockton Heat 6-5.

#2 The Heat had struggled against the Barracuda this season, but even though they lost they must have studied film and see the Cuda enough just to make it close game.

#3 The Barracuda opened up their offense in the second period with four goals and that was the difference for the win.

#4 The Heat tried to come back with a goal in the second and two in the third, but the Barracuda didn’t cave.

#5 The Barracuda are back at it again Friday night in San Diego. This again, is another team that could play some tight scoring hockey with the Cuda.

#1 The Cal Bears had a 18-point deficit on Saturday against the Seattle Redhawks (12-3) and rallied, but just couldn’t get the win.

#2 It was stated for Cal, the loss marks one of the darkest days for the Bears. Why is that?

#3 Bears head coach Wyking Jones said that he has to do a better job preparing the team from now on. Morris works he tells us what steps Jones has to take to get ready for a game.

#4 Seattle helped top the Bears with Morgan Means’ 24 points and Myles Carter’s 26 points. Once you have two players shooting in the 20s, that could do a lot of damage to your defense.

#5 The Bears host the UCLA Bruins for a Thursday night thriller to open the Pac 12

#1 How stunning was it for the Kings being able to beat the Lakers 127-118 last Thursday night?

#2 Leading scorers for the Kings in the first half included Willie Cauley-Stein (11 points), Nemenja Bjelica (9 points), and Iman Shumpert (9 points). Leading the Lakers was Kyle Kuzma (23 points), Brandon Ingram (16 points), and Lonzo Ball (9 points).

#3 Notably not available for the Lakers was Lebron James, Rajon Rondo, and Javale McGee. Needless to say, the Kings were feeling good about the matchup.

#4 The Kings played the Lakers again on Sunday. Talk about how that one turned out.

#5 Next up it’s the Portland Trail Blazers on New Year’s Day Tuesday night.
