#1 The San Jose Sharks (15-16-2) spent another evening on the road with another loss. This time to the Nashville Predators (14-10-5) in a three-goal loss 4-1.

#2 The Sharks simply could not get any offense going. They only had Timo Meier, who scored the club’s only goal of the night.

#3 Sharks goaltender Marty Jones gave it his all in net, saving 29 shots and allowing three goals. Simply put, Jones did not get the offensive support on Tuesday night

#4 The Predators got goals from Calle Jarnkrok, Nick Bonino, and Ryan Johansen. All scored in the third period after the game was 0-0 after the first two periods.

#5 The New York Rangers (15-11-3) come into San Jose on Thursday night and the Sharks are coming in with a five-game winless streak and no doubt will be giving its all in this one.

Looking at the road trip, our initial projections were the two teams they could beat on the road trip were Portland and San Antonio, they lost to Portland and they lost to San Antonio. The two teams we figured that they had no chance to beat the Dallas Mavericks and the Houston Rockets.

The Mavericks and the Rockets were back to back and that’s almost asking too much on the road. They lost to the Trail Blazers, they lost to the Spurs a heartbreaker, turned around and they beat the Mavericks and the Rockets in a back to back.

#1 The San Francisco 49ers pulled out a victory for the ages on Sunday in New Orleans when kicker Robbie Gould hit the gamer, a field goal that captured one of the 49ers’ best wins of the season 48-46.

#2 The Oakland Raiders suffered their third straight loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon 42-21. Critics have said that Raiders quarterback Derek Carr looks lost in the headlights in those last three games.

#3 How important is it for Cal getting a bowl game in the Bay Area they face Illinois on Monday, Dec. 30th at Levis Stadium? Although the game is in a neutral site, the Bears will feel right at home.

#4 This past week, the San Francisco Giants hired batting coach Donnie Ecker as manager Gabe Kapler slowly dismantles the former coaching staff that was once Bruce Bochy’s.

#5 The San Jose Sharks lost their fourth straight game and five of their last seven games. Over the weekend, they lost by convincing scores 7-1 to Tampa Bay on Saturday and 5-1 to Florida on Sunday.

#1 The Illinois Illini (6-6) have lost two straight games and face the Cal Bears (7-5), who have won two straight games at Levi’s Stadium, on Monday, Dec. 30th for the RedBox Bowl.

#2 The Bears won their last game to the UCLA Bruins 28-18. Cal quarterback Chase Garbers 17-29 for 230 yards, one touchdown, and one interception with Cal coming away with a road victory coming into the RedBox Bowl. That’s a positive carryover.

#3 Cal basketball: The loss to the Santa Clara Broncos last Saturday 71-52 saw Cal struggling to shutdown the Broncos offense.

#4 The Bears’ top scorers were Matt Bradley (14 pts), Kareem South (9), and Grant Antecevich (9), while the Bears lost by 19 the top scorers tried to help Cal catch up.

#5 The Bears men’s host Fresno State and face the Bulldogs (2-6), a game that the Bears have a chance to win.

#3 Ohio State (9-0) basketball: The Buckeyes defeated Penn State (7-2) 106-74. The Nittany Lions Kaleb Wesson led all scorers with 28 points.

#1 Leon Draisaitl and Alex Chiasson both had a goal each and an assist as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night 2-1. The win for the Oilers put them in first place in the Pacific Division.

#2 Tristan Jarry stopped 33 shots in the Pittsburgh Penguins victory over the Arizona Coyotes 2-0. Phil Kessel, a former Penguin, couldn’t score off his former teammate in the loss.

#3 The Montreal Canadiens edged the New York Rangers 2-1 on Friday night. The Habs’ Nate Thompson got a goal with less than two minutes left for the eventual game-winner.

#4 Kirby Dach, in a shootout, got the gamer with a fifth round goal and got the Chicago Blackhawks a win 2-1 over New Jersey. Hawks goaltender Corey Crawford prevented the Devils’ Jack Hughes from scoring for the final attempt in the shootout.

#5 Sportsnet was commenting on Brian Burke, who was a general manager for Vancouver, Anaheim, Toronto and now is team president in Calgary. Said that the league’s salary cap has been great for the sport, but it’s killed trade talk.

#1 The Carolina Hurricanes’ Andrei Svechnikov scored both the first and shootout goals to lift his team over the San Jose Sharks 3-2 at PNC Arena on Thursday.

#2 It was the Hurricanes’ second shootout win of the season, the first achieved in the first game of the regular season.

# 3  For the Sharks, it was their first shootout loss and the first time they went to a shootout on the road during the same period.

#4 The Sharks outshot the Hurricanes 10-5 in the third and Carolina outshot San Jose 6-2 in overtime.

#5 The Sharks have a weekend in Florida. First tonight in Tampa Bay and the second on Sunday in Sunrise against the Florida Panthers.
