#1 San Francisco 49ers (4-11) safety Marcell Harris said his late hit on Chicago Bears (11-4) quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was not intentional the hit drew an unnecessary roughness and sparked a brawl that saw 49ers’ cornerback Richard Sherman getting ejected from the game plus two other players.

#2 The Bears are noted to being one of the NFC’s best, a first-place team in the NFC North Division and heavy favorites to be beat the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday. They did that 14-9, but they had to be concerned in the first half as the 49ers captured the lead going into halftime by two points 9-7.

#3 The Bears scored two touchdowns, shutting out the 49ers in the second half. The key touchdown for Chicago came in the third quarter with 4:14 left in the quarter when the Bears’ Jordan Howard carried for a two-yard touchdown to get the Bears over the top for good.

49ers Lose to the Bears in the Red Zone 14-9

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The San Francisco 49ers will finish their 2018 home record at 4-4 this year, as they dropped the home finale 14-9 to the Chicago Bears at Levi’s Stadium Sunday. The Bears remain hopeful for a first-round bye with the must-win victory.

Inability to score in the red zone and a few late mistakes cost the 49ers from upsetting the NFC North champs. San Francisco finished 0-for-3 in the red zone, as Robbie Gould scored all nine points with field goals inside the 30-yard line.

Nick Mullens made two costly errors down the stretch that prevented them from taking a late lead. With under eight minutes to go and marching, he threw a pick at the 14-yard line. After being lead a little too much, it tipped off the hands of Marquise Goodwin and right to Bears’ linebacker, Danny Trevathan.

Despite the pick, San Francisco won the turnover battle against the top team in the NFL, forcing two fumbles. DeForest Buckner recovered the first and Greg Mabin recovered one with 1:52 left giving San Francisco one final chance.

The 49ers recovered at their own 24 and began to move past midfield to the Chicago 45. After two consecutive incomplete passes, SF faced a fourth-and-four. Mullens was given great protection by the line and scrambled out to his right. With nothing but open field in front of him and enough room to easily pick up a first down, he went for the home run ball and threw it a few yards out of bounds.

Mullens admitted to his mistake, while Shanahan said, “he was just trying to make a big play.”

The attempt at the big play ended the drive and gave the Bears the win.

Mullens finished the day 22-of-38 for 241 yards. His primary target was George Kittle, catching seven passes for 74 yards. Kittle stands three receptions shy of the franchise record for tight end receptions in a season.

The 49ers continued to battle and lost as a brotherhood. Richard Sherman was ejected with under six minutes remaining after a fight broke out following a late hit on Mitch Trubisky near the Bears’ bench. Shanahan, Mullens, and George Kittle all appreciated the actions of sticking up for your teammates.

It remains to be seen if Sherman will be eligible for next week’s season finale in LA. The Rams can clinch the first-round bye with a victory, giving the 49ers a final chance at spoiler.

49ers hope to keep win streak going vs. Bears

This is a familiar trend for the 49ers.

They have long been out of the playoff picture, but they are hoping to get some carryover effect going for next season by going on a winning streak toward the end of this year.

The big difference here is that Jimmy Garoppolo is not under center for the 49ers at this point of the season, having been lost for the season with an ACL tear. Rather, it is undrafted Nick Mullens, who has opened eyes around the league with his surprising play.

That continued as the team scored an upset win over the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday, the first time since 2013 they have done so. Mullens will have a tougher defense to face this Sunday, as the Khalil Mack-led Chicago Bears will visit Levi’s Stadium.

As for the injury report, the 49ers are getting healthier. Running back Matt Breida has been limited in practice this week with the ankle injury he suffered weeks ago and is expected to play Sunday. Meanwhile, safety Jaquiski Tartt, who is nursing a shoulder injury, was also limited in practice this week but is expected to see the field against Chicago.

Linebacker Malcolm Smith has also been limited due to soreness in his Achilles tendon, while cornerback K’Waun Williams has been limited while nursing a knee ailment.

For the Bears, former 49er Aaron Lynch has been on the injury report with an elbow ailment, which has limited him in this week’s practices. The same goes for safety Eddie Jackson, who has an ankle injury, but is expected to play Sunday.

#1 The No Integrity fees for sports leagues, which would be a cut in revenue for teams. New York Senator Chuck Schumer (D) said the law was to protect the consumer from corruption.

#2 The Sacramento Kings were rolling until they ran into the Minnesota Timberwolves last Monday night and got clobbered by almost 30 points. The Kings have Oklahoma City Thunder, do you see a recovery tonight?

#3 The San Francisco 49ers’ tight end George Kittle had a career day against Denver on Dec. 9th with 210 yards third most in NFL history.

#4 It’s hard to contain the San Jose Sharks. They got anther big win a 4-0 shutout over the Minnesota Wild and have won five straight games.

#5 The Oakland Raiders continue to have problems on and off the field losing to Cincinnati, getting sued by the City of Oakland and trying to find a new place to play in 2019.

49ers cornerback Richard Sherman was thrilled to face his old teammates again the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday in a game the 49ers won by three points 26-23. The game in overtime saw the Seahawks  hit for a holding penalty and it took out the Hawks 32 yard drive and first down that ruined their comeback stopped by the Sherman and the 49ers.

49ers quarterback Nick Mullens had a busy afternoon with 20 completions in 31 attempts for 237 yards and two touchdowns in rainy weather at Levis Stadium. Kicker Robbie Gould hit a game winning field goal Mullens was not intercepted by the Seahawks defense not once.

49ers End Losing Streak to Seahawks with 26-23 OT Win

SANTA CLARA–A rain-soaked Levi’s Stadium needed overtime on Sunday, as the 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks 26-23 for their second straight win. It ends the terrible drought and marks the first victory against Seattle since 2013, that bumps their record to 4-10.

It was a tough performance from the red and gold, just two weeks after they were embarrassed by their rival in Seattle 43-16. The revenge tastes sweet, preventing Seattle from clinching a playoff spot at home.

“It means a ton. Not all of us have been here since 2013, but all of us were here two weeks ago. We’re sick about the way we lost two weeks ago. I know I haven’t been here since 2013, but am glad I won’t have to continue to answer questions next year,” said Shanahan.

The Seahawks got on the board early with Doug Baldwin capping their first drive with his first of two touchdowns. However, Sebastian Janikowski missed the PAT in his first ever attempt at Levi’s.

On the ensuing kickoff, Richie James Jr. flashed his speed, returning the kick 97 yards to swing momentum San Francisco’s way. It was San Francisco’s first kick return for a touchdown since 2011.

When the 49ers’ went on offense, Nick Mullens was outstanding again. Throwing 20-for-29 and 275 with one 41-yard TD to Garrett Celek. He finished with a 110.6 rating, his second straight game over 100+. Mullens also set a record of the most passing yards versus a Pete Carroll Seattle squad with 689 on the year.

After his tremendous performance last week, George Kittle was held to three catches for 51 yards despite being targeted eight times. Dante Pettis led the Niners in receiving with 83 yards catching five of six targets as he continues his second-half breakout.

The passing game couldn’t have been set up without the run. Matt Breida carried it 17 times for 50 yards, only to be outdone by Jeff Wilson Jr.’s seven carries for 46 yards.

Seattle continued to lean on their run game with Chris Carson picking up 119 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Russell Wilson threw 23-for-31 for 237 yards and two touchdowns.

The win couldn’t have been done without Robbie Gould who went four-of-four on field goals, including a 36-yarder to secure the win.

The Niners are now 3-3 under Nick Mullens. The controversy should be over. Mullens has earned the backup gig next year when Garoppolo returns.

With the victory, the 49ers have now slid to the third spot in the 2018 Draft, but that won’t matter to this team breaking a 10-loss stretch to Seattle.

49ers look to build streak vs. Seahawks on Sunday

It has been a long and frustrating year for the 49ers, but they are finding a little bit of success toward the end of the year.

The 49ers will hope to build on their 20-14 upset win over the Denver Broncos last week and will play host to the Seattle Seahawks, a team that they have beaten only once in the past six years.

Cornerback Richard Sherman played in Seattle for the first time in an opposing uniform Dec. 2, and it didn’t go very well at all, as the Seahawks rolled to a 43-16 win. Not only did the 49ers lose the game, but there were verbal jabs exchanged in the following weeks between Sherman and some of his former teammates.

When Sherman said that the Seahawks are a “middle of the road” team at this point, defensive lineman Frank Clark took the opportunity to fire back at him, saying that “he’s not in this locker room anymore, so his opinion really doesn’t matter.”

For his part, Sherman responded by saying, “it didn’t bother me at all.”

In the meantime, the 49ers are dealing with some more injury issues. The team placed receiver Pierre Garcon on season-ending injured reserve with a painful knee injury that he has been dealing with for much of this season.

Fellow receivers Dante Pettis and Marquise Goodwin have been limited in practice this week with assorted injuries, while safety Jaquiski Tartt’s shoulder continues to give him problems, as he has not practiced this week after also missing last Sunday’s win over Denver.

For the Seahawks, Clark has an elbow injury that has kept him out of practice this week, while offensive lineman D.J Fluker also has not been able to practice while dealing with a hamstring issue.

#1 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said the clock flub at the end of Sunday’s game had quarterback Nick Mullens not taking a knee, but instead the ball was a turnover to the Denver Broncos. Lucky for San Francisco on the last play of the game, the Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick lateraled and the ball rolled out of bounds midfield, which helped SF win and run the clock out.

#2 Shanahan who was fined by the NFL $25,000 for yelling an obscenity at an official and drew an unsportsmanship-like conduct back on Dec. 2 in Seattle. Shanahan said he would appeal a play that he felt should have stopped the clock after 49ers linebacker Fred Warner had lost his shoe and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson threw it off the field Shanahan said the officials should have stopped the clock and that Warner should have been allowed to get his shoe back, but promised he wouldn’t swear at the officials again.

#3 San Francisco’s George Kittle had a career day in the first half last Sunday against the Broncos with 210 yards, seven catches, with a 85-yard touchdown.

#4 Mullens had a good offensive afternoon 22-33 for 332 yards. Mullens finished with a 102.1 passer rating.

#5 The Seattle Seahawks, who streamrolled the 49ers in Seattle on Dec. 2, will be at Levi’s Stadium this Sunday. Joe tells what the 49ers’ chances are this Sunday.
