Sheila Sanchez of patch.com wrote: The mom-and-pop Italian restaurant, located at 51 No. Santa Cruz Ave., is owned by Peter Jillo. It now has nearly 1,100 square-feet of extra space with 45 tables, a raised ceiling and a new food service counter where patrons can eat and drink cocktails.

One Yelp reviewer wrote “This place Rocks! The restaurant had a complete makeover and expansion just recently. They installed a beautifuyl new Bar, with a Granite counter, right behind which they put in an ice counter about 12 inches wide where you can put your drinks to keep them cool. It’s a nice touch.”

Sportstalk is honored to do our podcast at Original Joes 301 South First Street in downtown San Jose. We thank our hosts and Original Joe’s owners Brad Rocca, Michelle Rocca, Matt Rocca, and manager Greg Bardakos. Original Joes welcomes our panel Michael Duca (host and Cal Bears analyst), Marko Ukalovic (San Jose Barracuda beat reporter), Tony the Tiger Hayes (He was a Giant? feature writer), and Michael Roberson (Stanford Cardinal beat reporter).

On May 24, 1956 Louis J. Rocca, Louis J. Rocca, Jr. (Babe), Arthur Tortore (Otto) and Anthony Caramagno (Nino) opened “Original Joe’s” in San Jose. The four partners wanted to bring an authentic San Francisco restaurant to the South Bay. They were convinced that if they could keep it authentic, they could serve the community by producing their traditional home-style Italian American Cuisine. Their desire was so great that they actually transported San Francisco French Bread via Greyhound Bus everyday for the first two years of operation.
In the early 1970’s downtown San Jose started to flounder. Businesses were relocating to the outskirts of town. Original Joe’s became one of the cornerstones for an ever changing downtown. As the genres of food have changed over the years, Original Joe’s maintains its traditional roots. Still owned and operated by the Rocca Family, Original Joe’s continues to strive to replicate the dining experience that people have enjoyed for over half of a century.

San Jose Barracuda podcast with Marko Ukalovic: Barracuda take 3 game win streak into Wed game vs. San Diego

San Jose Barracuda defenseman Luca Cagnoni (42) had himself quite an afternoon against the Abbottsford Canucks scoring two power play goals and picking up three assists at Tech CU in San Jose on Sun Nov 30, 2024 (photo by San Jose Barracuda)

On the San Jose Barracuda podcast with Marko Ukalovic:

#1 The San Jose Barracuda scored their most power play goals of the season with four as they defeated the Abbotsford Canucks 7-4 at Tech CU in San Jose.

#2 Marko their offense is going so well their seven goals on Saturday is also a season high for most goals scored in a game.

#3 It took seven different Barracuda scorers to combine the seven goals. The Barracuda Collin Graf had three assists and Luca Cagnoni scored twice on a power play.

#4 Barracuda goaltender Gabriel Carriere made 25 saves for his second win against no loses. Carriere is 3-0 in his AHL career. Carriere is doing so well he got an assist for Andrew Poturalski’s power play goal a first assist in his career.

#5 The Barracuda are getting a lot of offense and how much has that carried over to their parent club the San Jose Sharks who are starting to have some success of their own?
