#1 The A’s opened up the final month of the regular season losing two of three in St. Louis to the Cardinals. The offense could only come up with one run in each of the final two games.

#2 Luis Severino threw five shut-out innings Tuesday night in St. Louis but the A’s eventually fell to the Cardinals 2-1. He only allowed three hits as well.

#3 Jeffrey Springs also pitched very well Wednesday night in the A’s 5-1 loss to the Cardinals, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out four.

#4 Looking ahead to the weekend, the A’s are in Anaheim for a three game set against the Angels and at this point it just seems like they are trying to get through the last month of the season however they can and build onto next year.

#5 The A’s putting out on social media some footage of walls being put up at the stadium site in Las Vegas saying, “We’re going vertical”. Interesting to see the progress being made out at the site.

#1 Former San Francisco Giant catcher Tom Murphy says that the back injury he got in camp of 2024 was not treated properly and that he received epidurals for the wrong disc. Murphy said that it was 100% malpractice and that he couldn’t do anything for the first two months after the injury. Giants president Buster Posey said that the Giants were counting on him to handle hitting against left hand pitching and he was signed because of his defensive work behind the plate but Posey said that it’s unfortunate that he’s not able to and he wished Murphy all the best. Murphy has not decided whether or not to litigate against the Giants.

#2 San Diego Padres reliever Jason Adam ruptured a tendon in his left quadriceps and had to leave Monday’s game. The injury impacts San Diego’s bullpen as they head to the stretch drive in September. The injury occurred in the seventh inning in the 4-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles in San Diego. Adam will recieve an MRI and Adam said that he will need to mend in the next six to nine months and said his season is probably done.

#3 The New York Mets Juan Soto hit for six RBIs, a grand slam and hit a triple that broke a tie against the Detroit Tigers for a 10-8 win on Monday. Soto had a break out game as the Mets are one of the favorites in post season play.

#4 Sacramento A’s right hand pitcher Luis Severino came back from a 15 day IL on Monday and is scheduled to start Tuesday night in St Louis. Severino had been out due to a oblique muscle injury. Severino is 6-11 with a ERA 4.82 and has made 24 starts for Sacramento.

#5 Amaury, the Kansas City Royals are looking to build a new stadium in downtown Kansas City, Royals owner John Sherman announced this week. The Royals want to build a stadium that has a surrounding district with retail, housing, hotels and entertainment. Royals president R. Brooks Sherman Jr (no relation to John Sherman) said that the Royals are looking for more than just a ball park.

#1 In speaking with other reporters Amaury the aftermath of the Rob Manfred-Bryce Harper F bomb tirade is considered the first volley as the Players Union and the Commissioner’s office teed off in the clubhouse in Philadelphia as the CBA expires at the end of the next year with a chance that the 2027 season could be locked out.

#2 Ronald Acuna Jr the Atlanta Braves outfielder had to leave Tuesday night’s game against the Kansas City Royals due to tightness in his right Achilles tendon. Acuna was put on the 10 day injured list on Wednesday morning. Aucna was chasing a ball in right field and felt tightness in the Achilles. The Braves medical staff will be checking Acuna Wednesday before their game.

#3 As New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge is out with an arm injury the Yankees traded for outfielder Austin Slater from the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. The Yankees are trying to strengthen their line up without Judge and might make some more moves before Thursday’s trade deadline. The Sox got minor league pitcher Gage Ziehl for Slater.

#4 Amaury the San Francisco Giants are on a five game losing streak, they have the worst record in baseball since July 9 at 3-12 (.250). People on the talk shows and the sports writers are asking questions. One of those has been is there any difference from the way the club is being ran since former Giants president Farhan Zaidi left to the it’s being ran with team president Buster Posey or it’s neither one of their faults and the buck stops with team CEO Larry Baer who signs off on who comes and goes?

#5 The Sacramento A’s after sweeping the Houston Astros in four games in Houston have won five of their last six games. The A’s are going well getting hitting from their big boppers Brent Rooker, Lawrence Butler, Nick Kurtz, and Jacob Wilson. They’ve also been getting some great pitching from their starters JP Sears, JT Gin, Jacob Lopez and Luis Severino.

#1 Philadelphia Phillies ghost runner Brandon Marsh scored the winning run on catcher’s interference in the bottom of the tenth inning with the bases loaded in a Phillies walk off win over the Boston Red Sox. In the tenth the Phils Edmundo Sosa checked his swing on Red Sox pitch from Jordan Hicks that was a ball but Sosa’s bat caught Sox catcher Carlos Narvaez. The Phillies asked for a review which showed the interference that allowed Marsh to score from third.

#2 The Arizona Diamondbacks Eugenio Suarez belted his fifth home run in his last three games, hitting a solo shot against the Houston Astros on Monday night. Suarez 34 years old hit his 35th home run and taking on the opposition when he gets the opportunity.

#3  Los Angeles Dodgers Freddie Freeman took an 88 MHP sinker off his left wrist Sunday. Freeman’s X-rays came back negative. The swelling on the wrist subsided. On Monday Freeman was back in the lineup and was back in the batting cage taking batting practice.

#4 Sacramento A’s centerfielder Denzel Clarke will be placed on the injured list after suffering from an adductor strain. A’s manager Mark Kotsay said that a roster move will be made on Tuesday. Kotsay said the A’s weren’t able to get a replacement to Texas in time for the game on Monday night. Clarke left the game on Sunday night with hip discomfort. Clarke hit .230 through 47 games.

#5 The A’s are shopping pitcher Luis Severino, Jefferey Springs, and JP Sears. Springs will be owed $10.5 million in 2026 and has a $15 million option for 2027. Severino has expressed that he was not happy pitching at Sutter Health Field in Sacramento because the dirt on the mound was too hard and the dugout didn’t go the clubhouse but you had to go through the outfield to get to the clubhouse. Sears does give up the long ball but clubs could use him as he is durable.

#1 Luis Severino announced this week that he’s has buyers remorse on signing up with the Sacramento A’s why Sacramento. Severino is used to having a tunnel from the dugout that connects to the clubhouse so he can do some lifting and exercising between innings in Sacramento’s minor league park he doesn’t have that luxury because you have to walk to the outfield gates to get to the clubhouse from the dugout. The A’s reportedly said they can’t wait to trade Severino.

#2 It’s turned into a debate whether Severino is right or wrong on the matter. One side says Severino knew what he signed up for and that the layout of playing in a minor league park was designed that the dugout would not be connected to the clubhouse. Severino frustrated can not do his regular routines and his win loss record may reflect that frustration at 2-9.

#3 Severino is in the first year of his $67 million three year contract he recently said he doesn’t care if the A’s get mad at him or not for bashing the A’s minor league stadium set up. The situation has Severino out of his routine he can’t tracked and he said he wants to be honest about playing at Sutter Health Park.

#4 Severino represents a voice of what other players say about playing at Sutter Health Park including visiting players too. The field is played on 162 days a season the A’s are sharing it with the minor league Sacramento River Cats and the players can feel the difference on a field that is in use everyday for six months.

#5 The players union signed an agreement to play at Sutter Health Park for this season and the next two seasons. Were not even at the All Star Break yet and the players are dropping hints that they want to get out from playing at the minor league park. If they push it a little hard enough in the off season could they get baseball to turn reconsider playing there and finish playing the remaining two years before the A’s move the Vegas at the Oakland Coliseum?

Luis Severino, in his first season with the A’s is the #1 starting pitcher on the team’s rotation. Severino received the largest contract in Oakland A’s history. A three-year deal worth $67 million, including a $10 million signing bonus. With this contract, the Dominican right-hander surpassed the previous record for an A’s player (any position), which was in Oakland, a six-year, $66 million contract extension for third baseman Eric Chávez in 2004.

The Severino deal was finalized in December 2024. The highest-paid A’s player is also the most outspoken. He explicitly stated that Sutter Park in West Sacramento feels like a Spring Training game, indicating the lack of intensity and atmosphere of a regular Major League Baseball Game.

That is very understandable. Remember, Severino came from pitching all his career (10 years) in New York. In the Big Apple, there is never a lack of intensity or atmosphere. He mentioned that the clubhouse in Sacramento, being in left field, is an inconvenience. And then during day games, pitchers are subjected to the sun, which adds to the discomfort, and added, “I was not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings by saying that.”

Leaving New York for Sacramento for Severino must feel like leaving a real metropolis to play in a ranch. For the record, he did not say that; I did. I lived in New York City for a few years. Luis Severino’s problems extend not only to Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, but also on the road.

This Sunday at Yankee Stadium, he pitched 3.2/3 innings, gave up five hits, of which two were home runs, and lost. His record today, a week away from the All-Star Break, is 2-9 with a 5.18 earned run average in 19 games as a starter.

For their #1 starter, that is not what the A’s envisioned this season. He is having a bad season, and from his comments, it’s very clear that he’s not having fun. Severino’s best season was in 2018 with the New York Yankees, 19-8 with a 3.39 ERA. Quote: “Pitching is the art of instilling fear” -Sandy Koufax.

#1 The New York Yankees network the YES Network in an interview on Friday with the former Yankee abd current Sacramento A’s pitcher Luis Severino asked his thoughts about playing in a minor league park and Severino said, “This is not a big league park.”

#2 Severino did not add anymore to the minor league ballpark statement but it did reverberate when the Yankees press who are covering the Yankees trip in Sacramento this weekend as to what a player’s thoughts are playing at the San Francisco Giants triple A affiliate Sacramento Rivercats minor league park.

#3 The Yankee broadcasters on the YES Network also added that “This is gonna be a summer this grass is never gonna forget.” inferring that the ballparks natural playing surface will be used over some 150 games just this season and the turf might show it’s age after so much use.

#4 Severino said the wind can take a baseball and do some damage to a pitcher if a hitter hits it in the direction of the wind and in a minor league park things could go bad fast.

#5 Severino said a few words regarding playing at a minor park is there any doubt that he’s sharing the feelings of the other players as well?

On the Athletics relocation podcast with Daniel:

#1 A’s owner John Fisher who has owned the A’s for 20 years and had signed pitcher Luis Severino to the largest contract since they had third baseman Eric Chavez. Severino signed for two years at $67 million. In 2004 Chavez had a six year deal with the A’s worth $66 million.

#2 The criticism about the Severino deal is that the A’s and the city of Oakland back in 2023 couldn’t reach a deal for Howard Terminal which fell some $36 million short for it to close the deal but the A’s were able to find the money to sign Severino for $67 million this month.

#3 It was pointed out that Fisher said of the reasons to move the A’s was that the attendance was horrible, nobody shows up, it’s the ballpark, and now they have to play in a minor league park in Sacramento but they couldn’t afford to pay the City of Oakland $90 million to play their remaining three interim years at the Oakland Coliseum before moving to Vegas.

#4 Also the A’s who originally were to pay $1.5 billion for the construction costs for the Vegas ballpark those costs have gone up to $1.75 billion and that cost could go up even further to $2 billion. It’s amazing what can happen if the A’s need to get something but couldn’t find the money for Howard Terminal?

#5 What about Commissioner Rob Manfred was he duped thinking the A’s had no money for Howard Terminal therefore they could get some love from the State of Nevada in public funding to build the park but who’d a thunk the A’s found funding with the Severino deal and covering their Vegas ballpark costs all this month?

Ex-New York Yankee pitcher Luis Severino agreed to a 3-year, $67 million contract with the Oakland A’s. The A’s made franchise history with their most expensive signing. This surpasses Eric Chávez’s 2004 contract of 6 years and $66 million in 2004.

Severino, a nine-year veteran born in the Dominican Republic, will become the number one starter for the A’s rotation in 2025. Luis Severino’s best season with the Yankees was 2018, when he ended with a 19-8 record and 3.39 ERA, starting 31 games and 191 innings.

Other popular Latino players with the A’s,(Cubans both) José Canseco had a five year contract with Oakland A’s for $23 million and Yoenis Céspedes, who began his career in Oakland, but made all his money later with other teams specially signing a $110 million deal with the New York Mets. He was a very popular player with Oakland A’s fans, but for some inexplicable reason(maybe money) the A’s let him go.

Severino is an  established pitcher who the team hopes can help other younger pitchers to support a good nucleus of young players. Some of those younger position players have been mentioned by other teams, but the A’s want to keep them as a winning group.

The A’s were interested in pitcher Walker Buehler from the LA Dodgers, but according to manager Mark Kotsay, Buehler did not show much interest leaving the World Champion Dodgers going to Sacramento. The deal would surpass the club’s previous most lucrative contract it gave out to Gold Glove third baseman Eric Chavez in 2004
