On the Raiders podcast with Rich:

#1 Rich it was a close game against the Kansas Chiefs but the last 28 seconds of the game with the Raiders leading 31-28 the Chiefs quarterback Pat Mahomes threw a 22 yarder to Travis Kelce in an offensive play that took seven plays to execute for the win 35-31.

#2 Rich for head coach Jon Gruden he put together a master playbook against the Chiefs and nearly knocked them off a second time for this season how disappointing was it for Gruden to losing like that in the closing 28 seconds.

#3 Rich talk about the Raiders first half of that game they jumped to a 14-7 lead in the first quarter and had a 20-14 lead at the half all indications look good.

#4 The Raiders quarterback Derek Carr really had himself an evening last Sunday against the Chiefs defense throwing for 275 yards, three touchdowns and interception remarkable when you considering throwing against one of the best teams in the NFL.

#5 The Raiders are 6-3 have won three of their last four games are in Atlanta on Sunday to face the Falcons (3-6) Atlanta head coach Raheem Morris who took over the Falcons when they were 0-4 and got them in the win column winning three of their last six games. On the Raiders podcast with Barbara:

#1 Barbara the Raiders (6-4) just missed getting their fourth straight win against the Kansas City Chiefs (9-1) in a game that was just out of reach 35-31.

#2 The Raiders who hung with one of the best teams in the NFL right down to the final quarter of the game where each team scored 14 points but the Raiders needed a little more but time just ran out.

#3 Once again those second and third quarters were critical on both sides of the ball. The Raiders held the Chiefs just to seven points in each of those quarters but couldn’t produce any offense in the third quarter which turned out to be critical in the end.

#4 For Raiders quarterback Derek Carr an explosive afternoon of throwing against the Chiefs defense accomplishing 275 yards, three touchdowns, and was intercepted once.

#5 So it’s back to the drawing board for Las Vegas as their heading to Atlanta for a 1:00pm kickoff. The Falcons have been playing .500 ball they lost to New Orleans Sunday 24-9 and beat the Broncos the week before 34-27. Barbara talk about how you see the Raiders faring in Atlanta on Sunday?

Tight end Derek Waller led the Raiders catching seven balls for 88 yards, including a three yard touchdown catch in the 4th quarter.

“It’s tough,” said Waller. “Losing in any form or fashion is not fun whatsoever, especially like that.”

Before last week’s Chargers game, head coach Jon Gruden said that the next three games against AFC West opponents would be a crucial stretch.  Well, the Raiders are delivering.

The Raiders improved to 3-0 in the division with a 37-12 win over the Denver Broncos at Allegiant Stadium.

“To put 37 points up, I am excited with how we won the game,” said quarterback Derek Carr. “We are proving that we can win in any type of way, which is great.”

Carr went 16 for 25 and threw for just 154 yards and no touchdowns.

The defense held the Broncos to 66 total rushing yards and forced four Drew Lock interceptions.

“If we can get turnovers the way that we did today on defense, it will bode well for us in the future and making a run at what we really want to do,” said Carr.

Josh Jacobs led the Raiders, rushing 21 times for 112 yards and two touchdowns, while Devontae Booker rushed 16 times for 81 yards and also two touchdowns.

“The game starts with the run and ends with the run,” said Jacobs. “It’s good to see that we put our dominance on the game.”

Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson booted three field goals, one each from 22 yards, 24 yards and 52 yards.

With the win, the Raiders improved to 6-3 on the season heading into their next game at home against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

“6-3 and 3-0 in the division is a big deal,” said Carr. “But the division still goes through Kansas City and we get them next week.”

Game Notes:

  • Las Vegas forced five Denver turnovers.
  • Raiders’ safety Jeff Heath came up with two big interceptions.

The Raiders started an important three game stretch against AFC West opponents on a high note.

The defense came up with a huge stop to end the game in a 31-26 win over the Chargers in Los Angeles.

With one second left in the game, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert’s 4-yard pass to Donald Parham Jr. was ruled a touchdown, but was reviewed and later ruled broken up by cornerback Isaiah Johnson to secure the win.

“Whenever we pull something out like that, it is so good for the team,” said Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.

Carr threw for 165 yards and two touchdowns, one each to Nelson Agholor and Darren Waller.

“Our defense got the one big stop that won us this game,” said head coach Jon Gruden.

Running back Josh Jacobs rushed 14 times for 65 yards and a touchdown, while Devontae Booker added a 23 yard touchdown run.

“I’m definitely proud of the team for how we fought and finished at the end,” said Jacobs.

With the win, the Raiders improved to 5-3 on the season heading into their next game at home against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. The Raiders will then face the Kansas City Chiefs at home the following Sunday.

“We are happy to win,” said Gruden. “We are just thrilled to win a game like that, it shows a lot of character.”

Las Vegas has now experienced a typical cold November day in Cleveland.

In wind, rain, sleet and snow, the Raiders defense held the Cleveland Browns to just 223 total yards as Las Vegas escaped with a 16-6 win in Cleveland.

“We will take any win that we can get,” said head coach Jon Gruden.

Raiders’ kicker Daniel Carlson nailed three field goals from 29, 33 and 24 yards despite the bad weather.

“Probably the windiest game that I have ever played in,” said Carlson. “I had some good operation, good holds, good protection and got some points on the board the rest of the game.”

“Credit to Carlson for being able to kick the ball and make some field goals,” said Gruden. “It was a real obstacle for the kickers.”

The lone Raiders touchdown came on a four yard pass from quarterback Derek Carr to wide receiver Hunter Renfrow.

“I thought that I got my hands underneath it,” said Renfrow. “It turned a little bit at the end, but it was a touchdown and it was good times.”

Carr finished the game going 15 for 24 for 112 yards and one touchdown.

“Whenever you are able to do it the way we did it, everyone has to deal with the conditions, but a team that comes from Las Vegas, the desert, and gets a win, that’s a good feeling especially on the road,” said Carr.

Running back Josh Jacobs led the Raiders on the ground rushing 31 times for 128 yards.

With the win, the Raiders improved to 4-3 heading into their next game on Sunday in Los Angeles against the Chargers.

Game Notes:

  • The Raiders outgained the Browns in total yards, 309-223.
  • Tight end Darren Waller led the Raiders with only 28 yards receiving.
  • Nine different Raiders players caught at least one ball from QB Derek Carr.
  • The Raiders have now won two of their last three games.

Headline Sports podcast with Jessica Kwong: Jets showed some defense against Bills but still winless; Did Bucs knock Raiders off their momentum?; plus more

The New York Jets defense was full of surprises last Sunday against the Buffalo Bills holding Buffalo to only 18 points despite losing 18-10 (photo from syracuse.com)

On Headline Sports with Jessica:

#1 The New York Jets (0-7) are the laughing stock of the City of New York but yet the Jets head coach Adam Gase says he has a game plan each week. Last Sunday might have been their best game although they lost 18-10 to the Buffalo Bills (5-2) in terms of playing a good defensive game.

#2 The Las Vegas Raiders (3-3) were coming into last Sunday’s game with lots of confidence they were coming off a close seven point loss to the Buffalo on Oct 8th, then the following week Oct 11th they dominated the Kansas City Chiefs (6-1) in KC, had a restful bye week on Sun 18 but got raked at home by the Tampa Bay Bucs (5-2) 45-20 behind Bucs quarterback Tom Brady’s four touchdown afternoon.

#3 The San Francisco 49ers (4-3) who lost two tough games against two teams who were struggling the Miami Dolphins (3-3)  and the Philadelphia Eagles (2-4-1) but came but strong against the Rams (5-2) and Patriots (2-4) for two straight wins. The 49ers face the Seattle Seahawks (5-1) looking at the NFC West that’s a real tough division to win games in as the 49ers head to Seattle this Sunday.

#4 The other day Dallas Cowboys (2-5) owner Jerry Jones was on live radio at 105.5 The Fan and told the host to “shut up a moment and let me answer” after he felt he was being interrupted by the host. How much of that is frustration out of losing quarterback Dak Prescott for the season and having lost to Washington 25-3 last Sunday?

#5 The Houston Texans (5-1) announced on Wednesday that they have closed their training facility due to a positive Covid-19 test from second-year offensive guard Max Scharping . The Texans said that the facility will remain closed for deep cleaning and they will take advantage of the bye week on Nov 1st and test players and get the facility ready for their next game Nov 8th against the Jaguars (1-6) in Jacksonville.

Las Vegas Raiders game wrap: Offensive and Defensive Holes Hurt Las Vegas In 45-20 Loss

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady (12) who threw for four touchdowns celebrates with teammate Rob Gronkowski(87) against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sun Oct 25th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas (AP News photo)

By Barbara Mason

Sunday afternoon the Las Vegas Raiders took on the Tampa Buccaneers after a bye week. The hope was that the team could return to the field healthy and that seemed to be the case. The health of the team paled in comparison to their lack of responsibility when it comes to protocol regarding measures being taken by the NFL in the Covid-19 fight. The Raiders desperately needed Trent Brown and Johnathan Abram this week but it was not to be. Not due to injury but due to not wearing their tracking devices in the facility. Brown tested positive for the virus and was sent into quarantine as was Abram and several players who had been seen around him causing six players to be placed into quarantine and not practicing all week. They were not able to play in this weeks game a huge loss for Las Vegas.

The Raiders have had numerous violations of the Covid-19 protocols resulting in almost half a million in fines. It all started with Head Coach Jon Gruden not wearing his mask at all times on the sidelines costing him and the team $350K. If that didn’t send a message of the seriousness of the virus I don’t know why this team doesn’t seem to get it. Derek Carr had attended a charity event held by Darren Waller ( without mask at times) which cost Waller $30K and other players on hand $15K each. The Raiders may even lose some draft picks as a result of their reckless behavior. The loss of Brown and Abrams will hurt the team’s defense as will the loss of 4 offensive linesman.

The Raiders started this game scoring early in the first quarter when Derek Carr found Nelson Agholor for twenty yards and the first touchdown of the game and the lead 7-0. The Bucs had a bit of a slow defensive start but that did come to an end as this game moved forward. Late in the first quarter Tom Brady took matters into his own hands when he rushed for a one yard touchdown to tie up this game.

Las Vegas was able to move the ball as the second quarter got underway. Their drive was stalled deep in Tampa Bay territory although they did put up three points when Daniel Carlson kicked a 42 yard field goal taking back the lead 10-7. The Bucs would answer not once but twice when Tom Brady connected with favorite target Rob Gronkowski for 5 yards and a second strike to Scotty Miller for 33 yards. The Bucs would take a 21-10 lead into the locker room. The Raiders needed to get their pass rush working and of course the loss of two of their key defensive players was starting to weigh heavily.

The Raiders first series in the third quarter saw a harassed Derek Carr; the loss of players on the offensive side of the ball also starting to glare. He was not having the time he needed to target his receivers while having to contend with a very good Tampa Bay defense. The first series in the third quarter for Tampa Bay saw a Tom Brady that continued to connect with receivers driving deep into Raider territory. The Raiders defense was able to stop Tampa Bay’s campaign making the Bucs settle for a 29 yards field goal. Las Vegas was trailing by two touchdowns 24-10 mid-way through the quarter.

The Raiders had an impressive drive late in the third quarter that started with a 44 yard pass to Nelson Agholor who started the game with the Raiders first touchdown. Carr would finish off the drive with a five yard pass to Darren Waller making this game a one possession game 24-17. The end of that drive resulted in a player ejection, number 66 Guard Gabe Jackson for unnecessary roughness on a defensive Bucs player. More bad news for the Raider offense.

Despite the defensive woes for Las Vegas they were able to hold Tampa Bay’s next series and went back on offense. Driving downfield the Raiders were in search of a tie game. They stalled on the drive but were able to kick another field goal, this one a 36 yarder still trailing 24-20.

Unable to hold the Tampa Bay offense, Brady connected with Chris Godwin for another touchdown giving the Bucs a 31-20 lead. Any hopes to win this game were squelched when Derek Carr was intercepted with seven minutes left in the game. The Bucs now had the opportunity to finish off this game, and with Tom Brady at the helm chances were very high that this would be the end of the Raiders in this contest. Minutes later Jones would punch the ball in for yet another Tampa Bay touchdown and a 38-20 lead. It was all but over for Las Vegas.

The Bucs would add insult to injury scoring yet again. Tampa Bay would break this game wide open late in the fourth quarter; Brady finding Johnson, another score 45-20 for a twenty-five point lead. No doubt the losses that the Raiders had suffered this week on offense and defense contributed greatly to this loss.

Hopefully the events of the past week in Las Vegas have had an impact on the team and moving forward they will act with responsibility; helping and not hurting their teams chances the rest of the season.
