MLB The Show podcast Charlie O:

#1 The Boston Red Sox on Saturday morning fired manager Alex Cora and five of his coaches Bench coach Ramón Vázquez, hitting coach Peter Fatse, third base coach Kyle Hudson, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson and hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin were also dismissed. The Sox are in last in the AL East. Was this firing justified or was it premature of the Sox as the first month of the season isn’t even over yet.

#2 After Cora and his coaching staff was fired the Sox responded with a grand slam home run by Andruw Monasterio in the tenth inning snapping the Red Sox four game losing streak Saturday.

 #3 No matter how many injuries keep piling up for the 2026 Chicago Cubs the Cubs keep winning. This time on Friday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers at sold out Dodger Stadium beating the two time champs in a come from behind 6-4 win after getting some great defense by the Cubs Dansby Swanson and Nico Hoerner it was the Cubs tenth straight win the most since their World Championship seaon in 2026. The Cubs did end losing Saturday and Sunday but had a ten game win streak with lots of injuries.

#4 The St Louis Cardinals got home run help from Julio Rodriguez, Will Wilson, and Cole Young and Leo Rivas got a two run home run in the ninth inning in the Seattle Mariners win over the Cards 11-0. The Cards are getting some offense.

#5 The Sacramento A’s have won six of their last 11 games. They are tied for first place with the Texas Rangers and have accomplished winning most of their series. They’ve built up their hitting and are getting good pitching from their starters.

#1 Some fans at Oracle Park in San Francisco kept saying from the stands to Giants rookie starter Kyle Harrison “who are you?” and he showed them who he was by setting 11 hitters from the first place Cincinnati Reds down. Harrison was all the rage when he made his rookie debut on Aug 22. On Monday night Harrison became the second Giants pitcher to strike ten hitters in his second appearance since Jeff Tesreau since 1912.

#2 Harrison in that MLB debut showed his effectiveness throwing 3.1 innings. and allowed two runs, five hits and five strikeouts. It was the strikeouts that has got a lot of people’s attention.

#3 Amaury, former Cleveland Guardians manager Pat Corrales who managed Texas, Cleveland and Philadelphia passed away at age 82 over the weekend. Corrales worked as a special assistant to the general manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers until 2012 in his final job in baseball. Is Pat Corrales in the Hispanic Heritage Hall of Fame Musuem?

#4 It was tribute night for former New York Mets pitcher Max Scherzer who returned to the Big Apple with the Texas Rangers. The Mets had a video scoreboard tribute for Scherzer but he was booed roundly when they showed him in the Rangers dugout for a live shot.

#5 The Oakland A’s got to Seattle and were routed by the Seattle Mariners. For the M’s the big hits, in the bottom of the first JP Crawford belted a 394 foot home run and in the bottom of the fourth inning Julio Rodriguez slugged a 420 foot home run putting the M’s in front 6-0 and out of reach in a 7-0 loss on Monday night. This was the seventh loss out of 11 games for Oakland.

The 2023 MLB All-Star Home Run Derby, better known as the most anticipated baseball event of the summer, got underway at T-Mobile Park in Seattle on Monday.

Seattle Mariners star outfielder Julio Rodríguez, also known as J-Rod, was especially popular with the crowd in Seattle. Julio Rodríguez lost in the finals against then-Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto last summer but he became the first slugger to record multiple 30-homer rounds in a single derby.

Other sluggers included Toronto Blue Jays first baseman and designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts, Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman, Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr., and Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis García.

#1 Jessica the Los Angeles Angels are feeling the pain literally. First the Angels outfielder Mike Trout was placed on the 10 day IL after getting hit in the left wrist while hitting fracturing his hamate bone. Trout is expected to be out of action for four to eight weeks. Anthony Rendon left Tuesday’s game with a left shin bruise after fouling a ball off of it x-rays proved negative and pitcher Shohei Ohtani left same game with a blister, Ohtani had to leave during his previous start due to a cracked fingernail.

#2 Protestors from Just Stop Oil  Deborah Wilde and Simon Milner-Edwards were escorted off the court after disrupting the between Sho Shimabukuro and Grigor Dimitrov as Dimitrov was about to serve. Both Wilde and Edwards got on Court 18 and showered it with orange confetti. Wimbledon officials were expecting some kind of protest and had stepped up security prior to the matches.

#3 After some 20 ESPN employees had been laid off the face of ESPN Stephen A Smith said he could be next. The World Wide Network in sports laid off high profile talent, Jalen Rose, Jeff Van Gundy, and Keyshawn Johnson last week and Smith raised the issue of race feared that he could draw the short straw saying that as a black person “when white people catch a cold black people catch pneumonia.”

#4 Jessica, MLB has announced replacements for injured players for New York Yankees Aaron Judge (toe), Los Angeles Dodgers Clayton Kershaw (sore shoulder), and Los Angeles Mike Trout ( broken hamate bone) with Astros’ Kyle Tucker, the Rays’ Wander Franco and the Pirates’ David Bednar, also Seattle fans will be thrilled to know that Mariners Julio Rodriguez and George Kirby will also be replacements.

#5 The NBA will introduce penalties against players who flop trying to get referees to call undeserved fouls or fool fans into thinking that referees missed a foul call by exaggerating the effect of contact with an opposing player. The penalty for the flop will access the opposing team with one free throw and the player who flopped will be hit with a non unsportsmanshiplike conduct technical foul.
