NFL podcast Charlie O: 49ers Purdy goes up against Carolina Sunday; What stays in Vegas, Browns beat Raiders by 14 points; plus more news

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (13) passes against the Arizona Cardinals cornerback Max Melton (16) at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara on Sun Nov 16, 2025 (AP News photo)

NFL podcast podcast Charlie O:

#1 With Brock Purdy back under center for the San Francisco 49ers he didn’t miss a step when he came back in his win over the Arizona Cardinals. He’s back last week from his turf toe injury and will face the Carolina Panthers on Monday Night Football. How confident are the 49ers that Purdy can stay consistent and he’s ready to carry this team to the post season?

#2 The Las Vegas Raiders (2-9) never could catch up to the Cleveland Browns (3-8) Sunday getting beat 24-10 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The Raiders quarterback Geno Smith just couldn’t get neither the run or passing game to get on the scoreboard. For Smith Sunday going 30-44 for 285 yards and one interception. The Raiders were shutout in the first and third quarters. The Raiders defense were having a decent game they shutout the Browns in the first and third quarters but it wasn’t enough to close the game out in a 14 point loss at home.

#3 The Texas Department of Public Safety released on Friday details of how former defensive end of the Dallas Cowboys Marshawn Kneeland detail from police body camera, dash camera, and drone videos after officer had found Kneeland dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound in early November. In a police pursuit Kneeland crashed his pick up truck and took off on foot. Police using K-9s searched buildings, wooded areas and even water ducts. Even Kneeland’s girlfriend was looking for him. Kneeland’s body was found in a portable toilet outhouse between two office buildings in Frisco Texas.

#4 The San Francisco 49ers had voided wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s contract worth $27 million for the 2026 season. The question had been about Aiyuk’s future with the 49ers and was he who wanted to void the contract so he can become a free agent in 2026 or was it the 49ers idea to part company with him. “I’ve been coaching over 20 years, and I’ve never been in a situation where a contract’s been voided,” Shanahan said. “It’s extremely unusual to me.”

#5 Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow did not play on Sunday against the New England Patriots the Patriots announced on Saturday. Burrow is suffering from turf toe and has not played since week two. Burrow did practice on Wednesday and Thursday. The Bengals had a game on Sunday and also on Thanksgiving day. While it’s reported that Burrow is close to returning when according to the Bengals is the real question.

#1 Tony another rough one for the Las Vegas Raiders (2-8) on their homefield losing to the visiting Dallas Cowboys (4-5-1) on Monday Night Football. It was a real “Turn out the lights the party is over” as the Raiders were clobbered 33-16 at Allegiant Stadium.

#2 Raiders quarterback Geno Smith tried to get some passing yards going but Dallas just broke through the Las Vegas offensive line and scored a whopping 21 points in the second quarter.

#3 For Smith 27-42, 238 yards, one touchdown and one interception. No doubt on trying to get anything going it was a frustrating evening for Smith in another loss chalked up by the Raiders.

#4 The Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott pretty much had command and got some time to throw the football going 25-33, 268 yards, and four touchdowns.

Raiders unable to lasso the Cowboys 33-16, on a special Monday Night in the LV desert corral

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby (88) and linebacker Jamin Davis rushes Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4) in the first half at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Mon Nov 17, 2025 (AP News photo)

By Michael Roberson

LAS VEGAS, NV — The Las Vegas Raiders (2-8) lost their fourth straight game, 33-16, at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys (4-5-1) inside Allegiant Stadium on national television..

The Raiders actually led early in the contest, after Max Crosby forced a fumble out of Dak Prescott’s hands in Dallas territory. The Silver and Black capitalized on the visitors’ mistake. Kicker Daniel Carlson booted a 25-yard field goal, to put the home team up by three, 3-0.

Dallas kicker Brandon Aubrey put the Lone Star State Desperados on the board with his 50-yard FG conversion, tying the game at three, 3-3. However, Carlson came right back and made one from 45 yards out, placing the Raiders back in front, 6-3.

That advantage lasted to the end of the first quarter. After the first 15 minutes of the contest, the Raiders were on top by three. Unfortunately, the second quarter was a totally different scenario that the field goal filled first stanza..

Prescott got the party started early in the second quarter. He tossed an 18-yard to WR CeeDee Lamb nine seconds into the quarter. The Cowboys not only took the lead, but snatched momentum from the Raiders. Dak was not finished there. Less than 10 minutes later he lofted another TD pass for five yards to his tight end Jake Ferguson. Before anyone knew it, the Cowboys went from down three to up 11 in under 10 minutes of second quarter gameplay, 17-6.

Raiders quarterback threw a costly interception, which Dallas took with gratitude. They parlayed that into yet another visit to paydirt. Prescott hit WR George Pickens for a 37-yard strike, to widen the lead to 18 points, 24-6 near the midway point of the game. Las Vegas mustered up three more points before recess.

As the halftime whistle sounded, Daniel Carlson booted a 38-yarder through the uprights to close the deficit to 15. At the half, the North Texas rustlers led 24-9 after 30 minutes of regulation.

During the mid game break, musical entertainment was provided for the full house in the Raiders’ domain. Cornell Haynes Jr. (Nelly) performed to the delight of many, while some are upset for his previous performance at another venue.

The third quarter started with an uninspiring possession by the Raiders. Dallas added more points to their total with a little more than six minutes left in the third quarter. Prescott passed his fourth touchdown to his f4th different target. The last one was a two yard exchange with WR Ryan Flournoy. The Cowboys took their largest advantage of the evening (22), when they went up 31-9 during the 3/4 mark of the battle.

Early in the final quarter, Geno Smith finally found someone in the endzone. He secured WR Tre Tucker with a two yard loft for six. The Raiders seemingly still had fight in them early in the fourth quarter, trailing by 15 (31-16). Less than two minutes later, there was another tally added to the scoreboard.

Running back Ashton Jeanty took a handoff in his own endzone, but failed to exit the premises before being swarm tackled by ‘Dem Boys. The safety garnered two more points to Dallas’ already impressive total, 33-16. The Cowboys decided to take several kneels, showing mercy to the Raiders and Pete Carroll.

After the allotted 60 minutes elapsed, the Dallas Cowboys were the victors by 17 points. The celebration was subdued, as the team, league and MNF were respectfully honoring the life of the Late Marshawn Kneeland, He recently died by suicide, and the Cowboys in particular have dealt with a whirlwind of emotions.

The Raiders will next be in action Sunday, November 23 hosting the Cleveland Browns at 1:05 PM PT on CBS. The Cowboys head back to Dallas (Arlington) to host the Philadelphia Eagles on the same date at 3:25 PM CT on FOX.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast Tony Renteria: Cowboys-Raiders Monday Night Football preview

The expression on Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith (7) says it all after the loss to the Denver Broncos at Mile High Stadium in Denver on Sun Nov 6, 2025 (AP News photo)

Las Vegas Raiders podcast Tony Renteria:

#1 How will the Cowboys’ offensive line handle edge pressure from Maxx Crosby, given his reputation as one of the Raiders’ dominant pass rushers?

#2 With the Raiders introducing a faster, more vertical offense under their new coordinator, what role will Tre Tucker play in stretching the Cowboys’ secondary?

#3 On the defensive side, how might the Cowboys attack the Raider’s young edge rusher Malcolm Koonce, who is expected to make a big jump after returning from injury?

#4 The Raiders’ interior defensive line includes young talent like Tyree Wilson — how will the Cowboys adjust their running game (and their ability to cut back) to account for his presence?

#5 On Monday Night Football November 3rd the Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland recovered a blocked punt in the end zone against the Arizona Cardinals and celebrated his first career touchdown in a loss to the Cardinals. On Thu Nov 6 Kneeland was found dead alone in Frisco Texas of a self inflicted gunshot. Kneeland was 24. This has to be not only shocking to the Kneeland family but to the Dallas Cowboys who are coming to Vegas for Monday Night Football.

#2 Former Dallas Cowboys and now Green Bay Packers pass rusher Micah Parsons sacked his former teammate Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Parsons said it was painful sacking Prescott, “That’s my guy. San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor: Bosa stirs controversy with MAGA hat; Ward mourns loss of 1 year old daughter

San Francisco 49ers Nick Bosa pointing at his MAGA hat on live TV while standing behind teammates quarterback Brock Purdy (13), tight end George Kittle (85), cornerback Renardo Green (31), stirred controversy trying to make a political statement after the 49ers-Dallas Cowboys game at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara on Sun Oct 27, 2024 (AP News photo)

SF 49ers podcast with David Zizmor:

#1 David how much will the MAGA hat of San Francisco 49ers Nick Bosa wore after the 49ers beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football have on the team it’s been the drum beat of social media and has taken front and center. Some criticize it’s alright that he can wear the MAGA hat but it’s not alright for ex 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick not be able to express his protest against racial discrimination. How do you see it?

# 2 The 49ers Charvarius Ward is mourning the loss of his one year old daughter who passed away on Monday. Amani Joy Ward had battled heart issues since birth and even had open heart surgery on Apr 11, 2013. Amani was born six months premature and had down syndrome.

San Francisco 49ers Top Dallas 30-24; Win is second in last four games for SF

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (13) takes a leap of celebration after scoring a touchdown with tight end George Kittle (85) and guard Dominick Puni (77) in the second half at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara on Sun Oct 27, 2024 (AP News photo)

By Barbara Mason

The San Francisco 49ers(4-4) had a slow start in the first half of their game with the Dallas Cowboys (3-4) trailing 10-6 after two quarters. The 49ers came alive in the second half scoring three touchdowns in the third quarter taking a 27-10 lead.

The Cowboys surged in the fourth quarter and with 3:32 left in the game the score was 30-24 in favor of the 49ers. San Francisco held on and was able to win this game and reach the five hundred mark with a 4-4 record.

Game recap: The first quarter highlighted two teams that are very evenly matched. The only score that came out of the opening quarter was a San Francisco field goal. 49er kicker Anders Carlson put the only points on the board in the first quarter, a 50 yard field goal and a 3-0 San Francisco lead.

After a slow start, the Cowboys scored twice in the second quarter. Ezekiel Elliot scored a touchdown rushing for a yard and the score giving Dallas a 7-3 lead at 10:58. The Cowboys would follow that up at 2:56 with a Brandon Aubrey 29 yard field goal extending the Dallas lead to 10-3.

San Francisco would cut that lead to 10-6 when Anders Carlson kicked a 44 yard field goal. With 54 seconds left in the second half, San Francisco had possession and the opportunity to either cut the Dallas lead or possibly take the lead.

Both of these teams are coming off disappointing losses last week and the play in the first half show-cased some highly competitive play. With 34 seconds left on the clock the 49ers had driving into Dallas territory setting up camp on the Cowboy 46 yard line. San Francisco was unable to move the ball and was looking at a 4th and 17 with ten seconds left in the half. The score was 10-6 at halftime.

The three holding penalties in the first half of play had really hurt San Francisco. If the list of injured 49ers was not enough there was an in-game injury that was significant in the first quarter. Jordan Mason who had been doing a beautiful job in the absence of Christian McAffrey went down in the opening quarter .

Mason did jog off the field after medical attention on the field and did not enter the medical tent. He did take the field but it was brief and he eventually did exit to the locker room in the second quarter. His return is now questionable. He is suffering a should injury adding to the burden of his AC joint sprain that he has been managing for a few weeks.

The 49ers wasted little time to start the third quarter. They scored a touchdown at 12:57 in the third taking a 13-10 lead. Isaac Guerendo rushed for four yards and the score. Anders Carlson made the extra point and San Francisco had a 13-10 lead.

Minutes later the 49ers intercepted a Prescott pass and San Francisco was back in business. They drove down deep into Dallas territory looking to extend their lead. They didn’t wait long as Brock Purdy connected with George Kittle for two yards and another second half 49er touchdown taking a 20-10 lead.

Dak Prescott and the Cowboys had a lot of work to do with 7:08 left in the quarter. The problem for the Cowboys was the dominating defense that San Francisco was bringing down after down. The Cowboys were having a lot of trouble moving the ball and giving possession back to the 49ers time after time.

With 1:44 left in the quarter Purdy was connecting and the running game was also on fire for San Francisco as they drove down to the Dallas ten yard line first and goal. Purdy himself took the ball into the end zone for San Francisco’s third touchdown of the third quarter and a 27-10 lead. The second half so far had been all 49ers.

The Cowboys had possession to start the fourth quarter but continued to be manhandled by the San Francisco defense. Prescott had been intercepted twice and sacked twice.

The Cowboy offense had been completely shutdown by the 49ers. With 11:57 left in the game San Francisco was again on the move but stalled out and was forced to punt when Purdy narrowly avoided an interception.

With under ten minutes in the fourth quarter the Cowboys offense got going and at 7:58 put together an impressive scoring drive. Prescott connected with a wide open CeeDee Lamb in the end zone for seven yards and their second touchdown of the game.

Trailing by the score of 17-27 the Cowboys had a lot of work yet to do. They would need an immediate stop with 7:52 left on the clock. Dallas did not get that badly needed stop allowing a San Francisco Ricky Pearsall rush for 39 yards down to the Dallas 26 yard line and any hope for a Dallas comeback had begun to dim. The 49ers were unable to find the end zone but did kick their third field goal of the game. Carlson made a 41 yard field goal extending their lead to 30-17.

Dallas refused to throw in the towel scoring with 3:32 left in the game. Prescott again connected with Lamb this time for 20 yards and we had a new ball game. San Francisco now had to protect their 30-24 lead. As it turned out, it was just too little too late for the Dallas Cowboys. The final was 30-24 and San Francisco had reached the five hundred mark with a record of 4-4.

Purdy had a phenomenal game finishing with 260 passing yards and 56 rushing yards. He had no interceptions. Running Back Isaac Guerendo finished with 85 rushing yards and receiving honors went to Kittle with 128 yards. San Francisco had finally put it all together in the second half of this game for the win.

Game notes: Sunday Night Football featured a matchup between the 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys (3-4). Both teams have struggled this season and both teams are desperate for a win. In their last game last week Sunday the Cowboys got trounced by the Detroit Lions to the tune of 47-9 and the 49ers lost in a Super Bowl rematch to the Kansas City Chiefs 28-18.

This game was a hard fought battle. Both teams had offensive weapons as well as great defenses. They were well matched and this was a great Sunday Night Football game. Both teams have talent at quarterback in the 49ers Brock Purdy and Cowboys Dak Prescott.

San Francisco has had terrible luck with injuries. Deebo Samuel was hospitalized last week with pneumonia and Brandon Aiyuk with a terrible season ending injury, a torn anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

The good news for the 49ers is that both Kittle and Samuel were on board for this game. Jauan Jennings remains out with a hip injury. Christian McCaffrey remains out as well and kicker Jake Moody remains out with a right ankle issue.

San Francisco is really banged up right now as are many teams across the league. These injuries can really play havoc with season outcomes. It all comes down to who is on the roster that can fight through these injuries and come out on the other side.

San Francisco will be back on the field on November 10th after a bye week in week 9. They will be taking on the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:00 AM PST and will be broadcast on Fox from Raymond James Stadium.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor: Major injuries in 49ers line up can they still handle Cowboys Sunday?

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (11) was injured on this played when he was hit by Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie (left) and and safety Chamarri Conner (right) tearing Aiyuk’s MCL and ACL on Sun Oct 20, 2024 at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara. Aiyuk will miss the rest of the 2024 season. (AP News photo)

On the SF 49ers podcast with David Zizmor:

#1 San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel was released from the hospital after contracting pneumonia. Samuel was hospitalized at a local hospital. Samuel was in for four plays against the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday before he left the game and went to the hospital. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is not sure if Samuel will be able to play against the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday.

#2 David, talk about Brandon Aiyuk who looked like he was hit in the legs on a play where he tore his ACL and MCL which will require surgery and force Aiyuk out for the rest of the season. 48 seconds into the second quarter received the injury when 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy got a pass between Kansas City defensive backs Chamarri Conner and Trent McDuffie which Aiyuk caught for a 15 yard gain. as Conner and McDuffie closed in on Aiyuk the hit hyperextended his knee.

#3 The 49ers now host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football for a 5:20pm PT kick off at Levi Stadium. The Cowboys got clobbered in their last game against the Detroit Lions 47-9 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The Cowboys just couldn’t stop Detroit’s offense and couldn’t get any traction against their defense. Considering some of the 49ers key injuries could this one end up being a close game in Santa Clara.
