#1 A combination of four pitchers for the Sacramento A’s did in the Chicago White Sox in by shutting them out 8-0 at Rate Field on the South Side of Chicago Thursday. JP Sears started it off by pitching six innings, three hits, no runs and two strike outs.

#2 A’s manager Mark Kotsay used three pitchers to help combine for the shutout over the Sox, after Sears left he was relieved by Noah Murdock who went 1.2 innings, with one hit and two strikeouts, middle reliever TJ McFarland pitched one third of an inning no runs, no walks and no strikeouts, and Jason Alexander mopped up going one inning with two strikeouts.

#3 The White Sox didn’t even put up a threat with only four hits. The A’s had runners circling the bases all afternoon with one run in the fifth, two in the sixth, one in the seventh, and three in the ninth.

#4 In the series the A’s won game one by a lopsided score on Tuesday 12-3, on Wednesday a little close but a win for Sacramento 3-1, and Thursday afternoon no mercy in the 8-0 shutout for the A’s.

#5 The A’s go into Milwaukee with confidence after a sweep in Chicago. The Milwaukee Brewers are second place in the NL Central and are 7-3 at American Family Park. The Brewers have won six of their ten games. The A’s have the second best road record at 7-3 in baseball behind the San Francisco Giants who are 9-3 away.

A’s Crush White Sox with Power and Precision to Complete Sweep

The Sacramento Athletics (9-10) arrived at Rate Field in Chicago this week with momentum and left with a sweep. Powered by a relentless offense and sharp pitching, the green and gold dominated the Chicago White Sox (4-14) 8-0 on Thursday afternoon, locking down their third straight win and continuing to turn heads around the American League.

It took only two batters to make it clear the Athletics meant business. Lawrence Butler opened the game with a ground-rule double to right and Jacob Wilson immediately followed with an RBI double, giving the A’s a 1-0 lead before the White Sox could blink.

It was a fitting start for Wilson, who has been a steady force for the Athletics lineup all season. Already boasting a hit in 16 of the team’s first 18 games, Wilson continues to lead by example with his consistency at the plate.

While the first-inning fireworks set the tone, the A’s continued to chip away patiently. Brent Rooker and JJ Bleday kept the pressure on with smart at-bats, and although a few early rallies fizzled, the green and gold showed they were just getting warmed up.

In the fifth inning, Lawrence Butler struck again. This time, he launched a no-doubt solo home run to right field, pushing the Athletics’ lead to 2-0 and sending a jolt of energy through the dugout. Butler’s performance was another chapter in his growing story as a key figure in the A’s youthful core.

The sixth inning is where the A’s broke the game open. Brent Rooker led off with a single and JJ Bleday followed by blasting a two-run home run into the right-field seats. It was Bleday’s second homer of the season and a much-needed boost for the A’s offense, which has found its rhythm in recent games. By the time the sixth ended, the Athletics were up 4-0 and showing no signs of letting the White Sox back into the game.

Meanwhile, JP Sears was quietly delivering one of his best outings of the year. Sears, who had previously struggled against Chicago in his career, flipped the script with six scoreless innings. He worked efficiently, mixing speeds and locations to keep the White Sox hitters off balance.

Sears did not allow a single runner past second base during his outing, and when he exited after six, the A’s bullpen kept the shutout intact with precision work from Noah Murdock, T.J. McFarland, and Jason Alexander.

In the seventh inning, the Athletics continued their barrage. Tyler Soderstrom, the breakout star of the early season, crushed a solo home run to right, marking his Major League leading ninth homer of the year. Soderstrom’s power has been a difference-maker for the A’s, leading the majors in home runs and producing runs at a historic pace for a player so early in his career.

The Athletics were not done yet. In the ninth, Max Schuemann tripled to start the inning and was immediately driven home by Jacob Wilson’s second RBI double of the game. Not wanting to be left out of the late-inning fun, Brent Rooker then launched a two-run homer of his own, his fifth of the season, capping off the A’s scoring at eight runs and putting the White Sox away for good.

The A’s offense finished the afternoon with 13 hits, four of them for extra bases, and showed the type of balanced attack that has defined their recent surge. Wilson, Butler, Rooker, Bleday, and Soderstrom all had key contributions, a sign that the lineup is becoming increasingly dangerous from top to bottom.

Defensively, the A’s were equally sharp. Solid outfield play from Bleday and Butler helped preserve the shutout, while first baseman Tyler Soderstrom anchored several key outs with sure hands and smart positioning.

For a team that spent much of the early season at the bottom of the standings, the sweep over Chicago is a statement. The A’s have now won five of their last six games and are beginning to look like a team ready to climb out of the basement. Their road record, a sparkling 7-3, is the second-best in the majors and shows a level of resilience that could prove critical as the season unfolds.

Next, the A’s head to Milwaukee for a three-game series against a strong Brewers team. With JT Ginn scheduled to start and the offense firing on all cylinders, the green and gold will look to keep the momentum going and continue surprising those who counted them out early.

Gio’s Triple the Difference as the Green and Gold Stay Hot in Chicago

It took one jolt from the Sacramento A’s Gio Urshela to tilt the scales, and that was all the A’s needed.

On a chilly Wednesday night at Rate Field, the green and gold edged past the Chicago White Sox 3-1 in a tight and scrappy contest, fueled by timely hitting, gutsy pitching, and a bullpen that continues to lock things down late. Urshela’s two-run triple in the sixth was the game-winner, erasing an early 1-0 deficit and sealing the A’s second straight win to open the three-game series.

The early part of the night belonged to the pitchers. Osvaldo Bido, making his fourth start of the season, gave the A’s five innings of one-run ball. His only blemish came in the third inning, when Brooks Baldwin jumped on a pitch and sent it over the right field wall for a solo shot. But Bido, who entered the game with a 3.00 ERA and had yet to allow a home run in 2025, kept things from unraveling. He stranded two runners later that inning and finished with a solid line: five innings, six hits, one earned run, and no walks.

That composure on the mound bought the offense just enough time.

After going quiet through the first five frames against White Sox rookie Jonathan Cannon, the A’s came alive in the sixth. Tyler Soderstrom, who leads the majors in home runs, kicked things off with a single. JJ Bleday followed with a game-tying RBI single, then came Urshela’s moment, a sharp liner into the right field corner that brought home two and gave the A’s a 3-1 lead they would never relinquish.

Urshela, who had struggled early in the season, now has hits in five of his last six games and is showing signs of the veteran presence the A’s hoped for when they brought him aboard this offseason.

Lawrence Butler added to his steady stretch with two hits and two stolen bases, bringing his season total to four. He’s now reached base safely in 13 of the A’s 14 games he’s started, and his late-inning speed proved critical in applying pressure on the Sox bullpen.

And once again, the A’s bullpen did not blink.

T.J. McFarland, José Leclerc, and Tyler Ferguson tag-teamed to cover innings six through eight. Ferguson, in particular, impressed with a high-pressure groundout to escape a bases-loaded jam in the seventh. That handed the ball to fireballer Mason Miller for the ninth, and Miller slammed the door with authority.

The hard-throwing righty struck out the side, flashing triple-digit heat that has become his signature. Miller now has four saves on the season and remains unscored upon through six appearances. He’s also struck out 12 of the 21 batters he’s faced. According to team stats, Miller owns nine of the 17 fastest pitches in the majors so far this year.

For the Athletics, this win marks their sixth on the road this season, and with a 6-3 away record, they now rank among the best traveling teams in the majors. This is no small feat for a club still working to find its footing in a new market while carrying the weight of relocation rumors and a turbulent fanbase transition.

It also doesn’t hurt that this team, despite being under .500 at 8-10, is hitting .290 with runners in scoring position, second best in all of baseball, and doing it with contributions up and down the lineup.

Soderstrom Sparks the Green and Gold in Statement Win

On a chilly Tuesday evening at Rate Field, the Sacramento A’s bats brought the heat and then some. Tyler Soderstrom launched not one but two three-run homers as part of a 12-3 demolition of the Chicago White Sox, a win that gave the green and gold some much needed momentum to kick off their road trip. For Soderstrom it was home runs five and six of the season.

For a club that had been sluggish at the plate recently, with just one home run over their last four games, the power surge was both timely and emphatic. Soderstrom, now tied for the Major League lead with eight homers, continued his breakout campaign and showed why he’s become a fixture in the heart of the Athletics lineup.

The night began with a bang. Lawrence Butler and Brent Rooker set the table with back to back singles, and Soderstrom cleared them with a laser into right center. Just like that, it was three to zero.

But Chicago answered quickly. In the bottom of the first, Andrew Vaughn returned fire with a three-run homer of his own, tying the game and reminding everyone why no early lead is ever safe.

It didn’t stay tied for long. In the second, Gio Urshela delivered an RBI double, and in the third, Shea Langeliers added a solo homer, his fourth of the season, reclaiming a two-run cushion. Langeliers later doubled in another run in the ninth, finishing the game with three hits and two runs batted in.

Jeffrey Springs, who entered the game with a 4.20 ERA, held strong after the rocky first. He escaped a bases loaded jam in the third and worked through five innings without allowing another run. For a staff that had surrendered the fourth highest ERA in the majors coming into the night, Springs’ rebound effort was a stabilizing force.

The sixth inning is where things unraveled for Chicago. Max Muncy doubled, Butler knocked him in with a single, and Rooker followed with another base hit. That set the stage for Soderstrom’s second three-run blast, a majestic shot to right that silenced the home crowd and put the game out of reach at nine to three.

Offensively, nearly everyone chipped in. Butler reached base four times and drove in a run, and Rooker added two hits. Even Miguel Andujar, who entered the night hitless in his last four at bats, capped things off with a sacrifice fly in the ninth. The A’s collected 14 hits in total, their highest mark since April 8.

From a statistical perspective, this performance defied recent trends. The A’s came in with the second worst run differential in the majors and had grounded into the most double plays. But Tuesday night, the swings were clean, the timing was sharp, and the results were undeniable.

The bullpen held steady, with Justin Sterner and Mitch Spence combining for four shutout innings. Spence, who had allowed three runs or more in each of his last four outings, was effective in closing down the seventh and eighth.

Tuesday, right hander Osvaldo Bido takes the mound as the A’s look to build on what might be a turning point in this young season. But for now, on a cool Chicago night, the green and gold found some warmth in the swing of Soderstrom’s bat and a comfortable win.

#1 Charlie O, well the Chicago White Sox did it they set the all time record for most loses at 121 in the modern era as the Sox eclipsed the 1962 New York Mets loss record at 120. The Sox losing to the Detroit Tigers on Friday night 4-1. Needless to say the criticism of the state of the team is being blamed on White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf.

#2 Charlie you were there for that last historic game in Oakland where the A’s played their last one in Oakland history last Thursday. I know what you said about Sacramento is a sure thing but some reporters who cover the A’s think the players union will doing everything they can to prevent that from happening. Do you see that small possibility of it not happening?

#3 Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker will not be back for the 2025 season. His departure comes after managing two season with the Marlins his last game as skipper was last Friday. Schumaker said he will not be managing the club for the last two games of the season due to personal family business. Ironically Schumaker led the Marlins to the post season last year and won NL Manager of the Year. The Marlins were 60-111 this season.

#4 What rebound for the Kansas City Royals as they clinched for the post season against the Washington Nationals . The Royals made one of the biggest turnarounds in MLB history. Last season the Royals had a record of 106 loses and turned it around this season with a 85-75 record and are ten games over .500

#5 The Detroit Tigers win over the White Sox on Friday night clinched them a birth for the post season. The Tigers have waited for a decade to get in the post season and will face the Baltimore Orioles or the AL Champions Houston Astros.

#3 Charlie these are not your 1959 Go Go Sox as the Chicago White Sox lost their 119th game of the season tying the 2003 Detroit Tigers who finished at 43-119. The Sox need one more loss to tie the all time worse losing record in a season held by the 1962 New York Mets. Can they do it?

#4 The Washington Nationals demoted All Star shortstop CJ Abrams after he stayed out all Friday morning at a Chicago casino. Nats manager Dave Martinez had to bring the bad news to Abrams that he was being demoted because of breaking team curfew. Abrams was the lead off hitter on Friday’s game and went 0-3 with a walk and one strike out. Martinez said he’s a good guy and he’ll work his way back.

#5 Here it is Charlie the final week of the A’s in Oakland and after next Thursday they would have played their last game ever in Oakland. Reality has set in for fans, players, media, A’s front office staff, and employees at the Oakland Coliseum.

A’s Drop Series To White Sox In Shocker 4-3

In a series that the Oakland A’s (65-85) should have won, the complete opposite took place on Sunday in game three of their series. The 4-3 loss to Chicago White Sox (35-115) was a bit of a shocker after winning game one in a shutout 2-0.

The A’s barely lost Saturday’s coming back to tie twice so a better effort was expected in Sunday’s game. The A’s hit a couple of home runs, one from Brent Rooker and a second from Shea Langeliers but it was not enough to win the game losing 4-3. JP Sears had a rough start giving up three runs in the first inning.

Game recap: Saturday the White Sox had taken a 3-0 lead after three innings. In Sunday’s game Chicago took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and this was not the way Oakland wanted to start the game. They were behind the eight ball from the get-go.

JP Sears gave up a walk, an infield single and with two runners on base a Gavin Sheets home run for the 3-0 tally. The A’s had tied the game twice in Saturday’s contest so while it was not ideal, it was early in the game.

Neither team scored in the following three innings but in the fifth inning Oakland was up on the scoreboard only trailing by a single run. Brent Rooker knocked a 407 foot bomb out of the park with Lawrence Butler on base cutting the Chicago lead to 3-2. The A’s were within striking distance.

The White Sox did not let their foot off the pedal hitting their second home run of the game in the sixth inning pushing their lead back out to 4-2. Bryan Ramos hit a solo home run making it a little more difficult for Oakland but still within reach.

The hits were not coming for either team in the seventh and eighth innings and it all came down to the ninth inning for the A’s. Tyler Nevin lined out, Max Schuemann struck out and it was up to Shea Langeliers to keep this game going. He connected for a solo home run and Oakland was within a run of another tie. It all came to an end when Nick Allen flied out and that was the ball game 4-3.

It was an awful disappointment for the A’s in more than one way. They had so many ties in this series only to lose games. Lawrence Butler’s hit streak came to an end in this game. He did have an RBI but no hits. So often loses come at the hand of teams that are struggling; they have nothing to lose and the A’s experienced this in the series.

Game notes: Sunday afternoon the A’s took on the White Sox in game three of their series and dropped a heartbreaker 4-3 after Oakland lost Saturday’s game after tying up the game twice, the second tie in the top of the ninth.

A’s pitcher Hogan Harris threw a pitch that was right in Chicago’s Andrew Benintendi’s wheelhouse. The result was a 366 foot home run and a Chicago walk-off 7-6 on Saturday. Oakland starter JP Sears went six innings, allowed seven hits, four earned runs, and struck out four strike outs. The Sox starter Sean Burke pitched five innings allowing five hits and two earned runs.

Oakland will remain in Chicago taking on the Cubs in a three game series that will begin Monday. The Cubs are coming off losing a series to the Colorado Rockies who are also really struggling. The Cubs are a good ball club, in second place in the National League Central. The probable pitcher for the Oakland A’s will be Joey Estes with a 7-7 win/loss record and a 4.36 ERA. Shota Imanaga will take the mound for the Cubs with a 13-3 win/loss record and a 3.03 ERA. First pitch for this game is scheduled for 4:40 PM.

A’s Fall To White Sox After Tying Up the Game – Benintendi homers For Walk-Off 7-6

The Oakland Athletics (65-84) fought hard in their second game with the Chicago White Sox (34-115). Twice they fought back from three run deficits, the first in the sixth inning and the second in the ninth. It all came crashing down in the bottom of the ninth inning when Andrew Benintendi homered to right and Chicago had the walk-off 7-6 on Saturday.

Game recap: Neither team would score in the opening inning but it was the White Sox who got up on the board first in the second inning. Oakland pitcher J.T. Ginn gave up three hits in the first inning but kept the White Sox off the board.

He did not get off so easy in the second inning giving up four hits and two runs for a 2-0 Chicago lead. The White Sox extended their lead in the third inning when Ginn gave up a solo home run off the bat of Gavin Sheets.

Ginn would get out of the inning but not before he allowed two more hits. Through three innings he had allowed ten hits. The White Sox have struggled with letting teams back in games but the A’s were starting to dig a bit of a hole which all started on the mound.

Ginn started to pull it together in the fourth with a one, two, three inning and the Oakland offense had some damage control to attend to. This season the A’s have come from behind on many occasions but they were struggling offensively in this game with only 5 hits through four innings.

Brent Rooker hit another milestone in the fifth inning connecting for his 24th consecutive hit. With two outs in the fifth inning, Oakland had Rooker on second and JJ Bleday at first base. Shea Langeliers struck out and the A’s had come away empty.

Oakland’s Kyle Muller relieved Ginn in the fifth inning and he would go three up and three down. The sixth inning was also solid for Muller with another three up three down inning.

Oakland threatened again in the sixth inning but as in the fifth inning there were two outs. The A’s had runners on second and third. Jacob Wilson was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases. Leadoff hitter Lawrence Butler was next up at the plate.

Chicago pitcher Chad Kuhl walked Butler and Soderstrom scored from third and the A’s were on the board 3-1. Brent Rooker singled Max Schuemann and Jacob WiIson home and this game was tied 3-3. Oakland still had runners at the corners but a JJ Bleday ground ball ended a huge sixth inning for the Athletics. Now there would be a tie to break.

In the seventh inning, it was the White Sox breaking the tie. Andrew Benintendi singled Nicky Lopez home for one run and then Gavin Sheets sacrificed driving Luis Robert Jr. home taking a 5-3 lead. Chicago would tack one more run on in the eighth inning when Zach DeLoach scored off a Nicky Lopez single and the White Sox had another three run lead 6-3.

Oakland rallied in the top of the ninth inning. With Lawrence Butler on second and Brent Rooker on first with no outs, the A’s were threatening. JJ Bleday walked and the Athletics had the bases loaded again with Shea Langeliers at the plate.

Langeliers delivered driving both Butler and Rooker home and the score was 6-5 in favor of the White Sox. With runners on first and second Seth Brown would be looking for his first hit of the game.

Brown also delivered loading the bases still with no outs. Zach Gelof singled JJ Bleday home to tie up this game at six. Shea Langeliers attempted to reach home plate but was thrown out which was reviewed and confirmed.

The White Sox would look for the walk off in the bottom of the inning. Both of these teams were fighting for the win and it would be the White Sox that would finish on top. Andrew Benintendi knocked the ball out of the park for the walk-off and the 7-6 win.

It was a terrible disappointment for Oakland after coming back twice in this game to tie up the score. The A’s will play in the rubber match looking to take the series. Lawrence Butler continued his hitting streak as well as his stolen bases. This guys does it all. Brent Rooker had three hits in this game as did Zach Gelof. The A’s finished the game with 11 hits.

Game notes: Saturday evening the A’s took on the White Sox in game two of their three game series after beating them last night in a shut out 2-0. Oakland was looking for a win in game two but the Sox broke a 6-6 deadlock in the bottom of the ninth to come away with a one run win 7-6 at Guarantee Rate Field. A’s starter JT Ginn went four innings. allowed ten hits, three runs and struck out three earned runs. The Sox starter Chris Flexen pitched five innings allowing six hits, walked two hitters and struck out eight.

JP Sears will take the mound for the Athletics Sunday. This will be his 30th start this season. He has a 11-10 win/loss record and a 4.18 ERA. Sean Burke will start for the White Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 11:10 AM.

Friday night, the Oakland A’s (65-83) took on the Chicago White Sox (33-115) in the first of a three game series winning in a shutout 2-0. This was Brady Basso’s first big league win going 5 1/3 innings without allowing a run to cross home plate.

There were no home runs in this game for the A’s but they did have nine hits. Oakland has now bettered their record from last season by 15 games which is huge and the season is not even over. Lawrence Butler continued his hit streak with at least 21 hits in his last 21 games.

Game recap: There was not a whole lot going on through the first three innings of this game. Oakland would finally get up on the board in the fourth inning when Zach Gelof doubled Daz Cameron home for the early 1-0 lead in this pitcher’s dual.

The A’s got a second run in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead. Brent Rooker singled driving Tyler Nevin across home plate. These two runs would be the only runs in the entire game for both team.

The A’s starter Brady Basso pitched the 2-0 shutout for his first big league career win. He went 5 1/3 innings allowing five hits and no runs. He walked one runner and had two strikeouts. He handed the White Sox their 16th consecutive home loss and their 18th shut out of the season.

He was relieved by Michel Otanez who was solid going 1 2/3 innings with no hits, no runs and three strikeouts. Tyler Ferguson relieved Otanez for one inning with the same result. No hits, runs or walks.

Closing out this game it was “Miller Time” with Mason Miller taking the mound and he did not disappoint. He allowed one hit, no runs, no walks and two strikeouts and that was the ball game with the A’s taking game one of this series 2-0. This was Mason Miller’s 25th save of the season.

Losing pitcher for the White Sox Garrett Crochet only went four innings allowing three hits, one run with four strikeouts. The White Sox sent four relief pitchers throughout the final five innings of this game.

The A’s finished this game with nine hits. Lawrence Butler continued his streak with his 21st straight game connecting for at least a hit. JJ Bleday had a couple of hits with 41 doubles this season so far. Brent Rooker had a hit in this game as well as Daz Cameron, Seth Brown, Zach Gelof (with two hits), and Tyler Nevin. The A’s offense had been so very good in the second half of the season.

Game notes: Friday evening the A’s traveled to Chicago taking on the White Sox in a three game series. The White Sox are struggling more than any other team in baseball residing in last place in major league baseball. The Sox need to lose five more games to tie the worst season loss record at 120 games held by the 1962 New York Mets. A’s starter Basso went 5.1 innings, allowed five hits, no runs and two strikeouts. The White Sox starter Garrett Crochet pitched four innings, allowed three hits, allowed an earned run and struck out four hitters.

Saturday the A’s will be looking to take game two in this series. They will be looking for some of those long balls although they got the job done Friday night without them. Probables for Oakland will be J.T. Ginn on the mound who lost his last outing. He has a 0-1 win/loss record and a 4.58 ERA. The White Sox will start Chris Flexen who has struggled and has a 2-14 win/loss record and a 5.28 ERA. The A’s could very well take advantage of Flexen and send a few balls out of the park. First pitch for this game is scheduled for 4:10 PM PT.
