Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and quarterback Brock Purdy spur the San Francisco 49ers (10-3) on to their fifth straight win beating the Seattle Seahawks (6-7) 28-16. San Francisco continues on their amazing path toward a post-season.

Sunday afternoon the 49ers welcomed the Seahawks to Levi’s Stadium. The 49ers are chasing the Philadelphia Eagles for the top seed in the National Football Conference. The Eagles play the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night football and no doubt all 49er eyes will be focused in on that result. An Eagle win could give Philadelphia a 70% chance to take the number one seed. Seattle also had a lot to play for as they chase a wild card spot. This was a huge game for both teams.

Game recap: The Seahawks took a 10-7 lead in the opening quarter. San Francisco took an early 7-0 lead when Jordan Mason rushed for three yards and the first score of the game. Seattle answered when wide receiver DK Metcalf tied up the game via a 31 yard pass from Drew Lock. The Seahawks would take the lead with 56 ticks left on the clock in the first quarter. Seattle kicker Jason Myers booted a 40 yard Field Goal for a 10-7 lead.

San Francisco struck first with a Jordan Mason rushing touchdown for three yards. Seattle would answer with not only a touchdown but a field goal to end the first quarter. DK Metcalf caught a 31 yard pass from Drew Lock at 9:44. The Seahawks would end the quarter with a 40 yard field goal courtesy of Jason Myers for a 10-7 lead going into the second quarter.

San Francisco would take the lead in the second quarter 14-10. Deebo Samuel caught a 54 yard pass from Brock Purdy. The 49er defense was solid in the quarter keeping Seattle out of the end zone and off the scoreboard. San Francisco took the 14-10 lead into the locker room at the half.

Both teams scored touchdowns in the third quarter. San Francisco extended their lead in the early minutes of the quarter. Deebo Samuel found the end zone for the second time in this game via a one yard rush for a 21-10 49er lead.

The Seahawks answered with 24 seconds left in the third quarter. Lock found Colby Parkinson for 25 yards and the touchdown. Seattle attempted a two-point conversion that failed. The Seahawks still trailed 21-16 but they were still very much in this game.

The 49ers nailed the coffin shut on the Seahawks in the opening minutes of the final quarter. George Kittle caught a 44 yard pass from Purdy extending their lead to 28-16. The San Francisco 49ers defense held fast through the remainder of the fourth quarter keeping the Seahawks off the scoreboard. The final was 28-16.

This was a terrific game for quarterback Brock Purdy who threw a career-high of 368 yards and two touchdowns. With so much talent surrounding him, all Purdy has to do is get the ball in their hands and they do the rest. Wonder kid Christian McCaffrey rushed for 145 yards.

The receiving corp was on fire with Deebo Samuel finishing with 149 yards and one touchdown. Samuel also had a rushing touchdown. Brandon Alyuk had 126 receiving yards and George Kittle hit pay dirt in the fourth quarter catching a 44 yard Brock pass for the final score of 28-16.

Next Sunday the 49ers will take on the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium. The Cardinals are struggling with a record of 3-10 but always present a threat with quarterback Kyler Murray at the helm. San Francisco will be looking for their sixth win in a row. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 1:05 PM.

On the 49ers podcast with David Zizmor:

#1 San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy threw for an amazing four touchdowns. When you look at Purdy’s passing for scores and how the 49ers dominated the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football this was a game that was expected to be a lot closer than it was?

#2 The Niners are 5-0 and have beaten a team the Arizona Cardinals who defeated the Dallas Cowboys on Sep 24 and then the 49ers with their win on Sunday over the Cowboys, the 49ers just exceeded their expectations or was this what you expected against teams like the Cardinals and Cowboys?

#3 The 49ers travel to face the Cleveland Browns for a 10AM PT kick off in Cleveland. The Browns struggled in their last game against the against the Baltimore Ravens in a landslide loss 28-3. Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw for 121 yards and was intercepted three times. Browns starter DeShaun Watson’s bruised shoulder is still bothering him and may have to sit out again for next Sunday against the 49ers.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: 49ers host a Cardinals team who shocked America’s team the Cowboys

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (13) throws against a rushing New York Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke (58) in second half action at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara on Thursday Night Football Sep 21, 2023 (AP News photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe, San Francisco (3-0) in their last game against the New York Giants regained the lead midway through the second quarter when quarterback Brock Purdy connected with Ronnie Bell on a nine-yard touchdown reception along the left sideline. It was the first NFL reception for Bell, the rookie seventh round draft pick out of Michigan, who did a nice tight rope job to haul in his first career touchdown.

#2 Defensive end Nick Bosa looked like a well-oiled machine as he made life miserable for New York quarterback Daniel Jones the entire game. Bosa finished with one sack and hit Jones four times as he took advantage of banged up Giants offensive line.

#3 49ers running back Christian McCaffery gave his team a two-touchdown lead near the end of the first half when he scampered in for a four-yard rushing touchdown that completed a 11 play 73-yard drive that chewed up over four and a half minutes off the clock.

#4 McCaffery led all rushers with 85 yards on 18 carries. He finished with 118 all-purpose yards as he also had five catches for 34 yards.

#5 The Arizona Cardinals are coming to Santa Clara Sunday to face the 49ers. The Cardinals are coming off a shocking 28-16 win over the Dallas Cowboys last week. 49ers safety Tashaun Gipson said, “I don’t think anybody, including Arizona, probably, thought they were winning that game,”

On the SF 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes:

#1 It just seemed no matter how hard the New York Giants tried to blitz San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and the 49ers offensive line Purdy was able to find a receiver on Thursday Night Football.

#2 Running back Christian McCaffrey has scored a touchdown in 12 straight games McCaffrey is finding holes and has been getting blocks and has been effective in the red zone.

#3 Joe, talk about wide receiver Deebo Samuel who caught two Purdy passes for touchdowns. How effective has Samuel been at wide receiver these first three games?

#4 The win on Thursday night was the 49ers 13th straight regular season game, there seems like there hasn’t been any effective opponent with the exception of last year’s Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game that the 49ers have faced.

#5 The 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals on Sun Oct 1st at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara. Joe talk about how you see Purdy throwing against the Cardinals defense in this one?

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (13) passes against the Arizona Cardinals during the second half at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara on Sun Jan 8, 2023 (AP News photo)

By Michael Roberson

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The San Francisco Forty-Niners put themselves into the #2 seed in the NFC, by preventing the Arizona Cardinals from flying around the Silicon Valley skies, 38-13..

Although they wanted to attain the #1 seed, those other birds, top-seeded Philadelphia Eagles,  took care of business in the City of Brotherly Love..

Arizona quieted the full house in Levi;s Stadium with a 77-yard bomb from QB David Blough to receiver AJ Green in less than a minute of the game’s opening drive,  Unfortunately, their kicker, the usually reliable Matt Prater missed the PAT.

A few minutes later, the all-purpose weapon, Christian McCaffrey caught a 21-yard touchdown from quarterback Brock Purdy, and kicker Robbie Gould made his initial PAT.  After 15 minutes of play, 7-6 Niners.

In the second quarter, the 49ers hit paydirt twice and the Cardinals made it to the house once.

San Francisco running back Alijah Mitchell scampered for a 5-yard TD after a Tashaun Gipson interception of Blough.

Arizona ‘s running back Corey Clement blasted the line for a 1-yard touchdown, bringing the score to a margin of one point, 14-13.

With 19 seconds left in the half,  Niners’ star tight end George Kittle received a 4-yard touchdown, putting them up by eight at intermission, 21-13.

The Santa Clara inhabitants went on a 17-0 run in the third quarter, ballooning their lead to 25, 38-13 after 3,

Mitchell and Kittle both returned to the endzone, Gould kicked a 27-yard field goal and Gipson picked off another pass.

The fourth segment of the game was very uneventful, as the third quarter score remained the same as the final score, 38-13, in favor of the home team.

Mr. RELEVANT (Purdy) threw 3 touchdowns on 178 yards passing for the Niners, while Cardinals’ QB David Blough passed for 180 yards, tossed a touchdown, but had two attempts picked off.

At press time, the 49ers will host either the Green Bay Packers or the Seattle Seahawks next weekend, pending Green Bay’s later scoring total.

Cardinals’ defensive end JJ Watt played his last NFL game with an impressive two sacks to end an incredible career.  He intimated that he was thankful for his time in the league and appreciative of his many accolades.

On the 49ers podcast with Joe:

#1 Joe, how big is it for the San Francisco 49ers (12-4) to get Deebo Samuel and Elijah Mitchell back do you see them getting into today’s lineup against the Arizona Cardinals (4-12)?

#2 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that Deebo is cleared to get in today just how much was he missed out of the line up since getting injured back on week 14 due to knee injuries.

#3 Mitchell returns since spraining his knee back on Nov 27th, Mitchell has had ACL spasms and has only played in four regular season games. How important is it to have Mitchell back as the post season starts next week.

Murray sustained a knee injury on a quarterback keeper during week 14 that put him out for the rest of the season and he is not expected to be there at the beginning of next season either.

San Francisco 49ers game wrap: 49ers win a game for the ages in a wild 37-34 overtime thriller over the Raiders

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffery celebrates a big play against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday Jan 1, 2023. (San Francisco 49ers)

by Marko Ukalovic

LAS VEGAS — 2023 opened with an explosion of fireworks…on the field in Sin City.

In a game that resembled an old Western style shootout, kicker Robbie Gould’s 23-yard field goal in overtime gave the San Francisco 49ers a 37-34 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon at Allegiant Stadium.

San Francisco has won a season best nine games in a row and currently sit as the second seed in the NFC thanks to the Minnesota Vikings 41-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Las Vegas has lost two games in a row and has been eliminated from the playoff contention. It was the fifth time this season Las Vegas has blown a double-digit lead in the second half. They have lost all five games when doing so.

Las Vegas came into the game with a new starting quarterback as Jarrett Stidham replaced Derrek Carr who was benched by head coach Josh McDaniels for the final two games of the regular season. Carr has left the Raiders entirely and is expected to be either traded or cut during the off season.

What looked like a supposed blowout on paper, with San Francisco rolling and the drama that unfolded in Las Vegas, turned out to be one of the best games of the NFL 2022-23 season as both teams went back and forth in the high scoring game.

Las Vegas (6-10) drew first blood on its opening drive with an impressive six play 75-yard drive that was capped off by Stidham finding tight end Darren Waller down the right side for a 24-yard touchdown reception.

“Yeah I guess so”, said 49ers linebacker Fred Warner said if that served a wakeup call for the defense. “Obviously when they go down and score right away. I’m not sure the last time that happened, I guess (when the) Miami (Dolphins) scored on their first play of the game. I didn’t feel prior to the game that guys weren’t up for it, that they weren’t ready to go. It’s just a matter of technique and doing our job.”

San Francisco (12-4) answered back on its opening possession with an eight play 67-yard scoring drive of their own. Brock Purdy connected with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk on a slant pattern for a two-yard touchdown reception. The touchdown was set up by Christian McCaffery’s 38-yard run to the Raiders one-yard line on a 3rd and 3. McCaffery had 53 rushing yards on the drive.

After a 20-yard field goal by Daniel Carson, the 49ers marched down the field on their next possession with a 13 play 75-yard scoring drive that was aided by back-to-back passing interference penalties. Purdy found his favorite target George Kittle in the back of the endzone for a two-yard touchdown reception to give San Francisco its first lead at 14-10.

San Francisco’s number one defense in the league gave up over 500 yards of offense to a Las Vegas offense that had struggled to move the ball, especially in second half of games. They also did not record a sack in the game, the first time since Week 14 against Tampa Bay.

“I think we really needed this as a defense. That’s a really good team (Raiders). (Jacobs) is the best running back I’ve played against in my career, no doubt about it. That dude’s a beast. And they have a lot of really talented players. The NFL will humble you a 100 percent of the time,” defensive end Nick Bosa said.

Las Vegas came out to start the second half firing on all cylinders. The Raiders defense sent the 49ers off the field on and three and out then their offense needed just six plays to go up 24-14 when Stidham scrambled out of the pocket and found Adams wide open after a blown coverage for a 60-yard touchdown reception.

San Francisco responded back with an eight play 75-yard drive with a balanced attack. McCaffery hit paydirt with a 14-yard rushing touchdown.

Amik Robertson picked off Purdy after coming down with a 50-50 ball that was intended for Kittle at the Raiders 18-yard line.

49ers returned the favor when Kerry Hyder Jr tipped up a pass from Stidham and went into the hands of Drake Jackson at the Las Vegas 42-yard line. San Francisco converted a Gould 43-yard field goal to even the score.

The 49ers regained the lead 27-24 with 6:44 left in the fourth quarter when they had a seven play 59-yard drive finished off with a Gould 24-yard field goal.

The Raiders answered back with 57-yard field goal from Daniel Carlson to complete a seven play 36-yard drive with 4:08 remaining.

Then things got wild in the final four minutes of the game. San Francisco drove down in less than two minutes to regain the lead when Jordan Mason scored in a 14-yard rushing touchdown. The touchdown was set up by a 38-yard reception by McCaffery on a screen pass.

“To have that kind of game, it was great to feel like that. It’s the fourth quarter, the game’s on the line. Now we gotta go and put up points. It was great for me to go through that and feel that again. The last time I felt that was when I was in college, winning the tight game,” Purdy said.

The Raiders weren’t done as they returned the favor getting the equalizer in just four plays. An impossible catch that only Adams could make went for 45 yards and then Warner’s passing interference against Waller inside the endzone set up Josh Jacobs one yard rushing touchdown with 1:11 remaining in the fourth quarter.

San Francisco had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation when two big receptions by Aiyuk set up a 41-yard field goal, but the veteran kicked sailed the kick wide right forcing overtime.

The Raiders won the toss but on the fifth play, defensive end Nick Bosa pushed Kolton Miller into Stidham that forced the ball to popup in the air and then intercepted by Tashaun Gipson as returned it to the Las Vegas three-yard line that set up Gould’s game winning field goal.

Purdy finished 22 of 35 for 284 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. McCaffery led all rushers with 121 yards on 19 carries to go along with his one touchdown. Aiyuk led the 49ers in receiving with nine catches for 101 yards.

Stidham, who had a great debut in his first ever NFL start, went 23 of 34 for 365 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Adams had a monster game as he led all receiver with seven catches for 153 yards to go along with his touchdowns. Jacobs chipped in with

GAME NOTES: San Francisco finished 4-for-8 on third down conversions. Las Vegas went 4-for-10.

The 49ers have won five of the past six meetings against the Raiders and now lead the all-time series 8-7.

UP NEXT: San Francisco concludes the regular season when they host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday 1/8 TBD at Levi’s Stadium

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: Raiders playoff picture still bleak; Raiders take each game one week at a time

Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs (28) enjoys the celebration of scoring with teammates against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field in Seattle on Sun Nov 27, 2022 (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria:

#1 Tony, two weeks ago the Las Vegas Raiders were collapsing they were on a five game losing streak with them scheduled to start a two game road trip in Denver and Seattle all looked bleak until they had break out games resulting in overtime wins in Denver and Seattle.

#2 Tony, when you saw Raiders quarterback Derek Carr nearly broke down after the game after a home loss to the Indianapolis Colts was that a moment of reckoning for Carr and the Raiders that they mad and they weren’t going to take it anymore?

#3 Also owner Mark Davis had head coach Josh McDaniels back after the fifth straight loss and fans calling for his head. Was it a matter of Davis is not going to fire McDaniels and be on the hook for the rest of his salary or he still had faith in McDaniels to persevere through those tough times.

#4 Tony, the Raiders as now have no chance of making the post season at 4-7. The Raiders would have to win the rest of their games and finish 10-7 that’s six consecutive more games and wins to get some daylight.

#5 Tony, Raiders and Chargers as the Raiders return to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to face the Los Angeles Chargers (6-5). The Chargers just got by the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday 25-24. How do you see the outcome between these two teams.
