Sacramento Kings podcast Tony Harvey: Thunder dominate Kings 132-101 at Golden One; OKC’s Hartenstein tops out with 33 pts and 19 rebounds

Sacramento Kings podcast Tony Harvey:

#1 It wasn’t even a close contest at Golden One Center on Friday night as the Oklahoma City Thunder (9-1) took care of business with a 30 point 132-101 win over the Sacramento Kings (3-6).

#2 Not enough offense some lapses in the outside shot and too much Thunder defense in the paint for the Kings to try and keep up.

#3 Thunder top scorers Isaiah Hartenstein with 33 points and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with 30 points there was very little the Kings could do to stop both of them.

#4 The Kings got lots of scoring help with ten players in double figures, Russell Westbrook led with 24 points but it wasn’t enough to get the job done against OKC who dominated with a 30 point win.

#5 Up next for the Kings the Minnesota Timberwolves (5-4) Sun Nov 9th. The Wolves who picked up their fifth win of the season over the Utah Jazz (3-6) at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City rather handedly 137-97 in a 40 point win on Friday night. How do you see this match between the Jazz and Kings this Sunday?

Sacramento Kings game wrap: Kings suffer a 132-101 drubbing at the hands of OKC

Oklahoma City Thunder center Isaiah Hartenstein (left) takes a jump shot against the Sacramento Kings forward Drew Eubanks (right) in the first half at Golden One Center in Sacramento on Fri Nov 7, 2025 (AP News photo)

By Jeremiah Salmonson

SACRAMENTO–After their win on Wednesday against the Golden State Warriors, the Kings looked to make it a streak on Friday as they welcomed the Oklahoma City Thunder to town for a 7 p.m. start. The Kings were unable to calm the Thunder as they were defeated 132-101.

In the first quarter, Russell Westbrook and Malik Monk led the Kings to an early lead in the game as they scored 11 and nine, respectively. The Kings defense struggled to contain the Thunder in the early minutes of the game but settled in and pressured the Thunder to 43% shooting in the first quarter. The Kings shot an even 50% from the field in the first quarter as they outscored the Thunder 32-30 in the opening 12 minutes of action.

In the second quarter, the Kings defense again tried to keep the Thunder at bay, but it proved too much. The Thunder outscored the Kings in dramatic 40-24 fashion to take the commanding 70-56 lead going into halftime.

The Thunder’s Isaiah Hartenstein led all scorers in the game at halftime with 20 points as he positioned himself well to eclipse his career high (24). The Kings shot 45% in the second compared to the Thunder’s 64%. The Kings were led in scoring in the first half by Russell Westbrook, who scored 16.

In the third quarter, the Kings and Thunder traded baskets as the Thunder narrowly outscored the Kings 28-27. The Kings trailed 98-83 going into the final quarter and would need a miracle to come back in their first NBA Cup game of the season.

No such comeback was in order as the Kings were outscored in the fourth quarter 34-18 as Oklahoma City ran away with the game. The Kings shot 41% in the loss compared to the Thunder’s 53% from the field in the game.

Hartenstein did indeed reach his new career high as he dropped 33 points for the Thunder in the victory as he led all scorers. Westbrook led the Kings in scoring with 24 points in the contest following his triple double against the Warriors on Wednesday. The Kings fell to the Thunder 132-101 on Friday night at the Golden 1 Center.

The Kings lost the battle in the paint 60-34, which was disastrous to say the least.

“I think there’s a ton of things,” Maxime Raynaud said after the game about improving the points in the paint disparity. “Obviously, we can’t get blown by on drives. Obviously, we can’t let the roller get behind us for LOBs; we can’t leave that many offensive rebounds…”

The Kings were frustrated after the loss with their lack of defending their home court. Yet, they will get another chance on Sunday as they welcome the Minnesota Timberwolves to town for a 6 p.m. PST tip-off.

Celebrini becomes NHL points leader in 2-1 win

San Jose Sharks vs Winnipeg Jets on Friday November 7th at SAP Center (via sanjosesharks/x)

By Madison Montez

SAN JOSE–After a faceoff in the San Jose Sharks’s end, the Winnipeg Jets was the first on the board, Josh Morrissey scored his second goal of the season. A minute after Winnipeg scored, Macklin Celebrini scored on a breakaway to even the game at 1-1. With four minutes left in the game, a scramble occured which led to Will Smith’s sixth goal of the season that gave San Jose the eventual win 2-1. Scoring a goal and recording an assist, Celebrini now leads the NHL in points with 23.

Shooting percentages were pretty even throughout the whole game. After the first, shots were 11-8 in favor of Winnipeg. After the second, shots were 10-9 in favor of San Jose. And after the game, the shots were 33-27 with Winnipeg ultimately outshooting San Jose. Although San Jose shot a lot, Winnipeg’s defense was on point having 28 blocked shots. Stick handling was a problem tonight with Winnipeg having 12 turnovers and San Jose having 8.

Coming into tonight’s game, San Jose was 13th on the powerplay and 25th on the penalty kill. They unfortunately couldn’t take advantage of a four minute powerplay in the first period. San Jose went 0/4 while Winnipeg went 0/2, neither team was able to capitalize on their powerplay. For Winnipeg, they were 9th on the powerplay and 4th on the penalty kill.

Both starting goalies were on point tonight, letting in the same amount of goals. Connor Hellebuyck got the start for Winnipeg while Alex Nedeljkovic got the start for San Jose. Hellebuyck’s record now moves to 7-4-0 making 32 saves on 33 shots. Nedeljkovi’s record now moves to 2-3-2 after his 25 saves on 27 shots night.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:

  1. Will Smith 1G
  2. Alex Nedeljkovic, .970%
  3. Connor Hellebuyck, .926%

The Sharks will be back in action tomorrow against the Florida Panthers. The last time these two teams faced off was on January 25th when Florida visited San Jose and won 7-2. In the loss, Will Smith and Cody Ceci scored, Smith is still with the Sharks while Ceci is with the Los Angeles Kings.

San Jose Sharks podcast Lincoln Juarez:

#1 Can San Jose Sharks (5-6-3) rookie centre Macklin Celebrini continue his hot streak and drive San Jose’s offence against the Winnipeg Jets (9-4-0) structured defence?

#2 How will the Sharks handle the crease battle between Yaroslav Askarov (San Jose) and Connor Hellebuyck (Winnipeg), given San Jose’s defensive vulnerabilities?

#3 With Winnipeg boasting a top four penalty-kill rate and San Jose’s penalty kill struggling, can the Jets exploit the Sharks’ special-teams weakness?

#4 On home ice, the Sharks have shown flashes with the 6-1 win over Seattle, but can they maintain defensive consistency when facing Winnipeg’s potent attack led by Mark Scheifele?

#5 Will San Jose’s young forward group—including Will Smith—step up sufficiently to offset Winnipeg’s road-trip momentum and prevent another sweep by Winnipeg?

Cal withstands late Wright State push for 77-67 home win

By Ryan Hannagan

BERKELEY, Calif. — California (2-0) men’s basketball secured its second home victory of the season Wednesday night, defeating Wright State Raiders (1-1) 77–67 at Haas Pavilion. The Bears used an early second-half surge and steady free-throw shooting to fend off a late rally from the Raiders.

After a slow offensive start from both sides with Cal shooting 4-for-12 and Wright State 4-for-11 from the field early, the Bears built momentum behind second chance points and dominance at the free throw line. Cal finished the first half shooting 13 for 34 overall but made up ground by converting 13 free throws.

Wright State, meanwhile, struggled from the line, going just 4 for 8, but found more success from deep, connecting on four of 16 three-pointers to stay within reach. Neither team managed to create much separation through the opening 20 minutes, with Cal holding a slim 34–28 halftime advantage.

John Camden led the Bears with seven points at the break, while Wright State’s Michael Cooper matched that total to lead the Raiders.

Cal came out firing in the second half, pushing its lead to double digits with a 12 point margin midway through the half. The Bears played with rhythm and confidence, feeding off an energized Haas Pavilion crowd. Sophomore guard Dai Dai Ames took control down the stretch, finishing with a game high 23 points.

Despite trailing by as many as 16, Wright State refused to fold, closing the gap to four with under five minutes to play. But Cal’s composure and efficiency from the line sealed the victory — the Bears shot 26 for 31 (83.9%) from the stripe compared to Wright State’s 10 for 18 (55.6%).

“We talked about ball control and not being passive,” Cal head coach Mark Madsen told Sports Radio Service after the game. “Against any zone defense, if you drive the zone, something good is going to happen. We have a lot of new players still getting comfortable in their roles, but I thought Nolan Dorsey really set the tone defensively and lifted the whole team.”

Cal out rebounded Wright State 43–35 and outscored the Raiders 34–22 in the paint. The Bears also held advantages in fast-break points (12–4) and defensive rebounds (33–24).

Wright State’s Dominic Pagonis led the Raiders with 11 points off the bench.

With the win, Cal improves to 2–0 and looks to carry its momentum into the next contest against Cal State Fullerton as it continues non conference play.
