By Jeremiah Salmonson

The San Francisco 49ers will take on the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday in the smoke ravaged Bay Area.

The game itself has a number of intriguing story lines.

First, this will be the first game for the new for newly acquired De’Andre Hopkins for the Cardinals. He is of course paired with once drafted A’s prospect Kyler Murray.

Murray of course is now known for his multifaceted approach to the QB position for the Cardinals. His arm and legs paired with a newly acquired receiver will be an exciting watch for Cardinals fans.

On the flip side this will be the first game since the 49ers lost a heart breaking Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs. The 49ers will look to continue their winning ways as anything but another trip to the super bowl would be a let down.

With the departure of Emmanuel Sanders in the off-season the 49ers will need to rely more heavily on second year receiver Deebo Samuel. The 49ers feel confident with him having received great production from him at the end of last year.

The game is set to take place Sun Sep 13 at 1:25 PM PST at Levis Stadium in Santa Clara.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo tunes up in training camp reports say that Garoppolo is having difficulty completing passes to receivers and had missed five consecutive passes for interceptions (photo from sfchronicle.com)

On the 49ers podcast with David:

#1 Reports out of the 49ers camp in Santa Clara are saying that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is making a lot of the same mistakes he made during the season, that he hasn’t been lights out, that he isn’t making the right decisions is the criticism too strong or too accurate?

#2 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon hasn’t missed a training practice is looking for the season McKinnon hasn’t played a snap since since Jan 21, 2018 when he had 11 receptions for 126 yards when he was with the Minnesota Vikings. McKinnon had knee injuries.  McKinnon says he’s ready after missing all of 2019.

Shanahan expressed his displeasure and ordered the first team off the field.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: With injuries to Samuel and Aiyuk can the offense be ready by Sep 13th opener?

On the 49ers podcast with Joe:

#1 Joe can the 49ers score this season how much do you see tight end George Kittle being the center piece of their offense?

#2 With receivers Emmanuel Sanders gone, Deebo Samuel is recovering from a broken foot, and Brandon Aiyuk left practice with an hamstring pull and with the regular season starting September 13th how much time will they be able to get the kind of offense they had like last season.

#3 The 49ers were the NFL’s most improved team last season their defense adjusted value went over average jumping from being number 30 in 2018 to number five in 2019.

#4 The 49ers defense finished number one against the pass and they kept quarterbacks running all day in the pocket teams had to try and counter the 49ers defensive rushing all game long.

#5 The 49ers really need to depend on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo as the 49ers offense was fifth in time of possession last season when they got out to leads of ten or more points. Seeing some of the injuries they have right now do they have a concern in that department?

#2 David, with no pre season play at all does this take away from head coach Kyle Shanahan’s opportunities to see what some of the rookies, free agents and red shirts can do in game situations or does he have pretty much in mind whose coming on board just from what he’s seen in training camp?
