That’s Amaury’s Podcast, News, and Commentary: Raiders meet with Vegas officials for possible move stadium and NFL approval still on the table

file photo: Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis and Las Vegas Sands Group CEO Sheldon Adelson

On That’s Amaury’s Podcast, News and Commentary the Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis’ efforts to move the team just took an uptick. Davis will have meeting with UNLV and the Sands Group Hotel and Casino officials on Thursday. The issue of financing a new stadium in Las Vegas could be solved soon. If financing can be found and it’s likely with the casinos at hand that the reality of the Raiders moving to Sin City could happen. There is the issue of the NFL owners wanting to move the Raiders to Vegas as well and we’ll hear a lot more from the owners as this story develops. A recent financial report this week stated that Sands Group CEO and Chairman Sheldon Adelson and the Sands had a loss of 10 percent as announced on April 21. The group also said they suffered losses from the day before April 20th. The Sands which owns their newest casino The Macau recently finished below their expectations at five percent. The Macau is counting on their stock portfolio to help be a trend as their stock is up at plus 21 percent and trading is up at 15 times in 2016. The NFL if it was to consider Vegas for the Raiders would expect any group backing the team to have a stable financial backing before considering any move.

I remember when Vegas just had a few casinos and hosted the Rat Pack of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Peter Lawford, Don Rickles, Sammy Davis Jr, and Joey Bishop. Now it’s a Disneyland for adults and adding an NFL team will just sweeten the pot for the gambling mecca.

Every time you go to Vegas you see folks on tour from overseas from Germany, France, and many other countries as it’s becoming a destination and for it to have a NFL team coming there the league won’t oppose it and it’s not like it’s baseball it’s not 81 home games there, football only has ten home games per season. The Raiders are desperate to leave the Oakland Coliseum and it’s obvious that’s the Raiders are not going to get a new stadium built in Oakland and owner Mark Davis wants out of the city.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor: Kap’s agent says QB wants out of Santa Clara

by David Zizmor

AP photo San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick whose agent says he wants out of Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA–The latest scoop after San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly said on Thursday that 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick indicated to him that he wanted to stay with the club. He must had a change of heart between that conversation and yesterday as Kaepernick’s agent said that Kaepernick wants a trade and he has several options like Philadelphia, Washington, or Cleveland.

If you can say the 49ers organization is good at one thing they’re good at it’s screwing everything up and everything they’ve done with Kaepernick is in the service of screwing him over and as much as they’ve said they want to keep him around. The thing that’s really been happening since Kaepernick took over in the middle of the 2012 season and won the job as starter from former 49ers quarterback Alex Smith he got the team into the playoffs and got them into the Super Bowl.

They had another Championship game where they lost to the Seattle Seahawks they followed with a mediocre 8-8 season and then last season Kaepernick got yanked out of the line up after play six or seven games playing pretty poorly. At all times at least in the last few years especially this last season the 49ers were not particularly supportive of Kaepernick as a player.

Super Bowl 50 podcast with David Zizmor: Manning hoists trophy as Carolina is grounded and pounded

by David Zizmor

AP photo: Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning talk after Super Bowl 50

SANTA CLARA–This was expected to be a high scoring game but what we discounted and didn’t pay enough attention to is just how good the Denver Broncos defense was. The Broncos defense hasn’t been particularly good all season. People don’t focus on that because of Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.

He’s clearly at the end of his career but there was no official announcement from Manning right after the Super Bowl on Sunday night. Whenever Manning is involved things tend to focus on him just a little bit. He had such a rough season. He wasn’t playing well all season having lost his fast ball, his curve ball, and pretty much having a slow ball.

The offensive struggle during the season Manning got hurt and back up quarterback Brock Osweiler had to take over for a few weeks and with Osweiler throwing for the Broncos with Manning out the thought at the time was the Broncos season was over and doomed. What everyone forgot to watch was how good the Broncos defense was.

Super Bowl 50 post game wrap up: Broncos defense leads Denver to SB50 title

By Daniel Dullum

AP photo: Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning holds the Vince Lombardi Trophy after winning Super Bowl 50

After one quarter, the underdog Denver Broncos had a 10-point lead over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. By halftime, the Panthers’ trademark swagger was gone. At game’s end, the Broncos prevailed 24-10.

This was Denver’s third NFL championship and its first since 1999, when current Broncos executive John Elway was the quarterback.

The victory gave Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning his 200th career win for quarterback starts, and it was his second win in the big game. Manning is also the first quarterback to win Super Bowl titles with two different teams (Indianapolis in 2007).

The game’s MVP, however, belonged to linebacker Von Miller, who tormented Panthers quarterback Cam Newton all night. Miller finished with six tackles and 2 ½ sacks, two hurries and two forced fumbles.

The Panthers (17-2), Newton in particular, ran into a revised version of the old Orange Crush defense. Newton was sacked six times – four in the first half.

Denver (15-4) set a record with 194 yards gained, the fewest ever for a Super Bowl winner. But the Broncos defense throttled Carolina from the opening kickoff.

Manning was 13 of 23 for 141 yards. And returner Jordan Norwood took a Super Bowl-record 61-yard punt return that set up a Brandon McManus 33-yard field goal that closed out the first half scoring.

The defense provided Denver’s first touchdown when, two plays after Carolina lost a replay review, Miller stripped Newton of the ball, which was recovered by Malik Jackson on the goal line.

Denver took a 13-7 lead into halftime and the Panthers closed to gap to 16-10. But the Broncos defense took over. After Miller stripped Newton a second time to put the ball at the Panther 4,

C.J. Anderson scored a 2-yard touchdown run, followed by a 2-point conversion to make it a two-possession deficit for Carolina.

Beyonce joined Coldplay and Bruno Mars to provide the halftime entertainment. No wardrobe malfunctions were seen or reporter.

That’s Amaury’s Super Bowl 50 News and Commentary: Goodell takes a look at concussion rule and Johnny Football’s future; plus Hammering Hank celebrates 82nd birthday

by Amaury Pi Gonzalez

USA Today Sports photo by Matthew Emmons–NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell holds press conference on Friday before Super Bowl 50

SAN FRANCISCO–NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell met with the news media on Friday and opened up on several subjects, starting with former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel while the NFL wants to help players who are on substance abuse Manziel may never play again. Former San Diego Charger quarterback Ryan Leaf said that Manziel is like looking in the mirror as Leaf said he’s doing some of thing Leaf did when played in the NFL.

Goodell said that concussions in the NFL are and will be addressed. Goodell said that the NFL is trying to model itself on tackles in a safe way the way that Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is teaching the way to tackle without any helmet contact. Goodell was told that in the past year seven high school players died from head injuries and Goodell wants to implement some safety plans to avoid any future concussions.

Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves and we talk of the real living legends of baseball on our podcast today following our Super Bowl 50 podcast. “Hammerin”Hank Aaron is 82 years old today. In the major league baseball record books, Aaron is second in homer runs with 755, just 7 behind Barry Bonds with 762, Babe Ruth is #3 with 714.  Aaron played for 23 years in the majors, ended with a .305 batting average and on April 8, 1974 hit his home run 715 to pass the Babe and (at that time)became the home run king.

Hank Aaron was one of the best players in history, through his career, and especially when he got close to the most heralded record in baseball, the home run record, he got plenty of mail with death threats to his life and his family, but concentrating in the game of baseball, one of the toughest game to have success, he shined like few in history. To this day, many still consider Hank Aaron the “real”home run of baseball, as we all know for the obvious reasons of Bonds perpetual dark cloud and suspicion of steroids use.

I spoke with Hank Aaron during during his next-to-last-season in baseball, when he came to town in 1975 with the Milwaukee Brewers, a mild manner man with lots of pride and a lot of class.
Happy Birthday and many more Hank!

Super Bowl 50 podcast with David Zizmor: SF homeless kicked out compared to TV cameraman robbery; Stabler CTE results take center stage at Super Bowl

by David Zizmor

photo credit: WBBM CBS 2 cameraman Marcus Richardson who was robbed in San Francisco during Super Bowl 50 week while filming the city for CBS 2

SAN FRANCISCO–WBBM CBS 2 cameraman Marcus Richardson was on assignment from his Chicago TV station to work Super Bowl 50 this week. One of his assignments was to film some of San Francisco’s beauty shots. Richardson was reportedly filming the world’s most curviest street Lombard Street. It was reported that Richardson was held up at gun point for his wallet, keys, and camera equipment.

Richardson told his station WBBM “they took everything, I’m at a complete loss of words and I’m sad beyond belief this is the lowest I’ve ever been doing this job, criminals suck” San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee had prepared law enforcement officials to remove the homeless wherever they are and move them out of sight from downtown so that the NFL officials, players, media, fans and tourist don’t have to see them during Super Bowl 50 week.

Lee received a lot of criticism for removing them and the homeless advocates even staged a protest rally on Market Street near the Super City set up to demonstrate against Lee’s decision. Lee feeling the heat didn’t say “I told you so” when  Richardson got robbed but sources say City Hall said that this is the reason why the city had to remove the homeless. This is ridiculous the homeless are what they are homeless not criminals and robbers. Richardson’s robbery had nothing to do with the homeless.

That’s Amaury’s Super Bowl 50 News and Commentary: The Super weekend; plus MLB updates

by Amaury Pi Gonzalez

photo credit: Sports Radio Service– Sports Radio Service Correspondents Michael Duca (left) and (right) webmaster Shawn McCullough cover the Super Bowl City activities in San Francisco’s Embarcadero

SAN FRANCISCO–The local media is in “overkill”mode for Superbowl 50, this year between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos. CBS Network is your Official Super Bowl 50 television network, and here in the Bay Area that is KPIX CBS 5, so they have hired the great Joe Montana and they have everybody on the air, except the receptionist and the mail clerk on the air, talking about Superbowl 50.

The game will take place at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, but Superbowl City is some  50 miles north, in San Francisco. Super Bowl City will be open for an extra weekend this year, providing many local residents the opportunity to experience the excitement of Super Bowl 50 before out-of-town guests arrive.

Both Super Bowl City and the NFL Experience were open on Saturday, January 30 – with the day’s activities topped off by the official re-lighting of The Bay Lights on the Willie L. Brown, Jr. Bay Bridge, the Macy’s Fireworks Spectacular and a performance by the Bay Area’s own Chris Isaac.

The Las Vegas odds on Super Bowl 50 have the Carolina Panthers favored to beat the Denver Broncos, with an opening line of between 3.5 and 5.5 point as the favorites. Vegas also likes the Panthers players for the MVP award, with Cam Newton getting 5-7 odds and Peyton Manning being the only Broncos player in the top five. However, Vegas is not as convinced that the Panthers will repeat next year. Cam Newton will probably be the MVP of the NFL this season.

One Bronco that will not be galloping in Levi Stadium this Sunday is safety Ryan Murphy. He was sent home after he was questioned in a prostitution sting on Tuesday outside a Motel 6 in San Jose. By the way, that Motel 6 said it is “sold out”for the weekend, so you better look someplace else to stay if you want to be in the San Jose area for this Superbowl.

The biggest city in the Bay Area is going to show the rest of the world it’s great weather, as the forecast for this Sunday calls for sunny skies and temperatures in the low to mid 70’s!

The Super Bowl is one of the most watched annual sporting events in the world. The only other annual events that gather more viewers are the UEFA Champions League final, and El Clásico in Spain. For many years, the Super Bowl has possessed a large US and global television viewership, and it is often the most watched United States originating television program of the year.  By the way there are no Democrats or Republicans debates schedule during Superbowl 50, although there were some rumors one party was contemplating such thing.
One Bay Area sports figure will be seen in a commercial at this Superbowl 50, is the talented #1 pitcher of the Oakland Athletics, Sonny Gray, so look for him. If the Superbowl 50 was not enough excitement for you, you can look forward February 13 for the San Francisco Wine Festival at Fort Mason; this is considered the world’s largest event for tasting American wines. with over 7.000 different wines and 7,100 entries, many from nearby Napa Valley and other wine growing spots in the Bay Area. There you can “shill out”with the wines.
——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–
Baseball::The Caribbean Series is taking place at Estadio Quizqueya Juan Marichal, in Santo Domingo, Republica Dominicana,  Cuba (last year’s champion), Dominican Republic,Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela are the participants. The teams are playing  a ten-game round robin, followed by the semifinals and championship game. For the first time, the tournament featured a home run derby, however Major League Baseball players were barred from participating due to complaints from Major League Baseball Players Association over injury risks. Ex Major League star, and Dominican-born outfielder Vladimir Guerrero elegible for the first time to the Hall of Fame in 2-17, hit two monster shots ouf of the stadium, but it was a young Venezuelan by the name of Felix Perez, in the minor leagues of the Cincinnati Reds, who won the contest.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–
Major League baseball: The Baltimore Orioles seriously in need of more starting pitching acquired today San Diego Padres Odisamer Despaigne, for minor league pitcher Jean Cosme. While the rumors continue that the Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers are talking about possible trades, the biggest names involved are Dodgers Yasiel Puig and Andre Either, both outfielders on a Dodger team that actually has seven (7) outfielders at this some. So, something has to give.
