#1 Morris another tough loss for the Cal Bears on Sunday night at Stanford 76-70. The only difference was that Cal had a slightly better game if you can call it that Thursday 70-55.

#2 Morris, it was that first half that Cal was frustrated with 35-24, their second half vast improvement 46-41 but fell sort by six points on the final tally.

#3 Cal was tied with Stanford at 22 in the first half with 4:24 remaining but Stanford roared back with a 22-4 run and never looked back.

#4 In what is now a six-game losing streak for the Bears–the longest skid under Fox–their opponent made at least half their shots from the floor for the fourth consecutive game.

#5 Thursday night the Bears host the Utah Utes, the Utes have won three of their last four games. The Utes handled the Arizona Wildcats on Feb 4th 73-58. The Utes were supposed to play Arizona State on Sunday but that game was postponed because of Covid-19 protocol issues. How do you see this match up Thursday night with Utah and Cal?

Different uniform, same results.

After winning six NFL championships with New England, Tom Brady added a seventh ring to his collection Sunday after leading Tampa Bay past Kansas City 31-9 in Super Bowl LV at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

Brady was also selected as the game’s most valuable player, his fifth overall, breaking a tie with Joe Montana. The 43-year-old signal caller completed 21 of 29 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns – two of them to his old Patriots teammate Rob Gronkowski and the other to Antonio Brown.

Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones combined for 150 rushing yards, and assistant Todd Bowles’ defensive game plan effectively shut off the Chiefs’ passing lanes and kept KC off balance throughout the game. Bucs linebacker Devin White racked up 12 tackles, plus an interception late in the fourth quarter.

Kansas City didn’t help itself by being flagged 10 times for 110 penalty yards, and the Chiefs were 3 of 13 on third down conversions.

After Kansas City jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on a 52-yard Harrison Butker field goal, the Buccaneers responded with an 8-yard TD pass from Brady to Gronkowski. At 6:05 of the second quarter, Brady found Gronkowski for a 17-yard scoring strike.

Butker booted a 34-yard field goal with 1:01 left in the second quarter, but the Bucs found the end zone with six seconds left in the half on a 1-yard touchdown pass from Brady to Brown. The Buccaneers led 21-6 at halftime.

Early in the third quarter, Butker’s third field goal – a 52-yarder – pulled the Chiefs to within 21-9. Tampa Bay finished the scoring when Fournette ran in from 27 yards out midway through the third quarter, and with 2:46 to go in the quarter, Ryan Succop tacked on a 52-yard field goal.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was held to 270 yards 26 of 49 passes, was intercepted twice and sacked three times. It was the first time he didn’t throw a touchdown pass in a game since Sept. 29, 2019, against Detroit in a 34-30 win over the Lions.

The Weekend performed at halftime, and the National Anthem was sang by country singer Eric Church and R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan. H.E.R. performed “America The Beautiful” in the pregame ceremonies.

Stanford Cardinal game wrap: Cardinal control Bears 76-70; da Silva leads Stanford with 21 points

Stanford Cardinal Oscar da Silva (13) shares congratulations with teammates as the Cardinal sweep the two game home at home series against the Cal Bears at Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto on Sun Feb 7, 2021 (gostanford.com photo)

By Barbara Mason

Sunday night the Stanford Cardinals took on the Cal Bears at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal came away with the victory 76-70 over Cal. Last Thursday night the Cardinal beat the Bears 70-55 and tonight were looking for a sweep. The Bears have lost five games in a row and have been struggling with a record of 7-13 while Stanford is playing far better ball with an 11-7 record.

Stanford was leading by the score of 35-24 at halftime and the Bears were fighting to avoid a six game losing streak. The Cardinals stand-out Oscar Da Silva led the scoring with 21 points and getting help from Lukas Kisunas with 12 points and Michael O’Connell with ten points.

While Cal did get some nice work from Matt Bradley (15 points), Ryan Betley (12 points) and Joel Brown (11 points) it just wasn’t enough to get past the far faster, stronger, Cardinals. Stanford led at the half and never let up throughout the second half.

Cal did make a bid at the end of the game but it was just a little too late pulling to within six points. They just ran out of time as Stanford closed out the game at the free throw line. This sealed the game for the Cardinal being an exceptional free throw team.

Stanford is now 12-7 and 8-5 in conference play while Cal falls to 7-14 having a dismal season with only two wins in their conference. They have now lost six games in a row.

Stanford will now take on a couple of tough opponents in Colorado this Thursday afternoon at 4:00 pm at Maples. They will have one more game at home against Utah before they head out on the road for a meeting with Washington. Tipoff against Utah will be Saturday night at 8:00 PM.

Super Bowl LV podcast post game show with Barbara Mason: Brady–Kiss the seventh ring; Bucs blowout Chiefs

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady (12) talks in the ear hole of Kansas City Chiefs strong safety Tyrann Mathieu after throwing a touchdown in the first half of Super Bowl LV in Tampa Bay (AP News photo)

On the Super Bowl LV podcast post game show with Barbara Mason:

#1 Barbara a total blowout in Tampa Bay tonight for Kansas City no defense and no offense on either side of the ball.

#2 After two touchdowns were scored for Tampa Bay in the second quarter and a half time score of 21-6 would you say that was indicator for what was to be the outcome of this game?

#3 The Chiefs looked like they just couldn’t do anything with Tom Brady and the Bucs all night long?

#4 Brady didn’t even have to throw for 300 yards he threw for over 200 yards and still burned the Chiefs with three touchdowns.

#5 For Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes 238 yards and no touchdowns a really disappointing game to finish to season for Mahomes and the Chiefs

By Jeremiah Salmonson

The Sacramento Kings are flying high. The Kings entered Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers winners of six out of their last seven games. The Kings most recent game came against the Denver Nuggets yesterday. The Kings came back in the fourth quarter for the win on Sunday 113-111 at Staples Center it’s the Kings fourth straight win.

Yesterday, the first game of a back to back for the Kings, the Kings defeated the Denver Nuggets 119-114. This Kings were able to defeat the Nuggets despite a 50 point night from Nikola Jokic. Harrison Barnes added 28 points for the Kings. However, at the end of the day, it all comes down to defense. The Kings were able to hold the Nuggets to under 115 points and that usually means good things for the Kings.

The Kings looked to do the same against the Clippers on Sunday after. Tip-off was set for 12 PM PST in Los Angeles.

In the first half, the Kings played well against the Clippers. The first quarter set a slower pace to the game for both teams on offense. The Kings only managed 22 points compared to only 24 for the Clippers. Neither team seemed to really be in an offensive rhythm. In the second, the Kings took the lead. They outscored the Clippers 32-27 in the second quarter on improved shooting from the Kings. The Kings would take a 54-51 lead into halftime looking to make a statement in LA in the second half.

In the second half, it was more of a high powered offense. The Kings managed to put up 25 points in the third quarter compared to the Clippers 29. It was a win for the Kings as the didn’t collapse and put themselves in a hole too large to overcome. In the fourth, it was once again the De’Aaron Fox show. The Kings out scored the Clippers 34-30 in the final quarter to win. De’Aaron Fox continues to be the best player for the Kings as he finished with 36 points in the game. Lou Williams led the Clippers in defeat with 23 points.
