San Francisco Giants president Buster Posey (left) and new manager Tony Vitello is introduced to the news media at a press conference at Oracle Park in San Francisco on Thu Oct 30, 2025 (AP News photo)
By Stephen Ruderman
SAN FRANCISCO–The Giants introduced their colorful new manager, Tony Vitello, in what turned out to be a massive press conference at Oracle Park this morning.
Members of the media and the Giants’ top brass all gathered on this foggy morning on the Club Level at Oracle Park, as Chairman Greg Johnson and President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey introduced Vitello to the city of San Francisco and Northern California.
It looked to be a rather-small crowd, but about 10 to 15 minutes prior to the start, a whole tsunami of people showed up. It felt like the entire city of San Francisco showed up.
Posey introduced Vitello, and presented him with a Giants’ cap and Giants’ jersey. As of right now, Vitello’s number will be 23, which was worn by Felipe Alou when he managed the club from 2003 to 2006.
It was a surreal experience for Vitello, who admitted that he never dreamed of being a big league ballplayer, as he admitted his skills were not up to par. However, he said that becoming a big league manager was a dream come true.
Members of Vitello’s family were in attendance, as were members of Vitello’s host family when he was a coach for the Salina Packers of the California Collegiate League in 2002. Vitello is actually pretty familiar with the Giants’ organization, and even said he sat behind home plate in Kansas City for Madison Bumgarner’s five-inning performance in Game 7 of the 2014 World Series.
Vitello is a revolutionary hire in the game of baseball. There have been many innovative things that have happened throughout the history of the game, and Vitello’s arrival is up there as one of the most notable.
Vitello is the first man to go straight from coaching college baseball to managing a major league team without any experience whatsoever in organized and professional baseball.
There’s always the question of how big league players will respond to a new manager. That question may be asked more than ever with a college head coach coming in to head a big league team
Outfielder Drew Gilbert, a character himself, who made himself a hit with his quirky personality, played for Vitello at Tennessee. So did starting pitcher Blade Tidwell, who came over from the Mets to the Giants along with Gilbert in the Tyler Rogers trade on July 30.
Gilbert was ecstatic when he heard the news. Vitello then said that he would be Gilbert’s babysitter.
On a podcast with Greg Olsen last week, Vitello said that personalities were a requirement. Vitello made reference to the 1993 Philadelphia Phillies, a team with many gregarious personalities.
Vitello touched up on his comments from a week ago.
“I think the biggest thing is to be comfortable in your own skin, and let [your] personality shine through, regardless of what [your] day is like,” said Vitello. “There is a lot of downtime in our sport, so personality is somewhat of a requirement for [things] to go as well as I think it could go.”
John Kruk, the Phillies’ first-baseman in 1993, and one of the biggest characters on that team, said that players would stay deep into the night after games to drink beer and talk about baseball.
“The thing is to let that stuff evolve organically,” added Vitello. “If you do have an environment that is entertaining, welcoming and fun, you tend to want to spend more time in that environment.
Even Max Scherzer, who pitched at a future first-ballot hall of famer heaped praise on the Giants’ new skipper. Vitello was Scherzer’s pitching coach at the University of Missouri, and even played a role in developing Scherzer into the hall of famer that he became.
When asked by John Shea how games would be managed, Posey was mum on how that would go, and said that he and Vitello would work in tandem.
Vitello will now get to work assembling his coaching staff, and as the 2025 World Series and Season near their end, Posey will soon get to work building the team for next season.

Mafia-NBA Gambling investigation -Gambino family mobster revealed
That’s Amaury News and Commentary
Amaury Pi-González
Angelo Ruggiero Jr., a member of the Gambino crime family, is implicated in a recent NBA gambling scandal that involves rigging illegal high-stakes poker games . Federal prosecutors allege that he and other mob associates used these games to defraud wealthy participants, which included current and former NBA players.
He is the son of the deceased Gambino captain, Angelo “Quack Quack” Ruggiero Sr., a close associate of mob boss John Gotti. Ruggiero Jr. is accused of receiving proceeds from the rigged poker games, which allegedly used sophisticated technology like rigged shuffling machines, marked cards, and hidden cameras to cheat players out of millions of dollars a judge recently denied Ruggiero Jr.’s bail request, citing his prior conviction for witness tampering and ruling that he posed a significant risk to witnesses in the current case.
During that previous incident, Ruggiero Jr. allegedly pointed his hand like a gun at a witness in his jail cell and said, “You know how we take care of rats, we get up-close and personal”. The Mafia-NBA investigation by the Justice Department includes an illegal poker ring as part of a larger investigation into illegal sports betting involving several mob families and prominent figures, including NBA coach Chauncey Billups and player/guard Terry Rozier.
These investigations have been going on for a while. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New York City Police Department Organized Crime Control Bureau’s Joint Organized Crime Task Force began investigating individuals associated with the NBA for illegal gambling in 2023.
The bureau was alerted to unusual betting activity involving Rozier in March 2023. As the investigation continues, there will be more revelations, although I have to say, there is a better than 50-50 chance the Department of Justice knows much more that they will not reveal, for obvious reasons.

San Jose Barracuda vs San Diego Gulls on Wednesday October 29th at Pechenga Arena (via sdgulls/x)
By Madison Montez
Coming off of a 3-2 win against the Milwaukee Admirals, splitting the previous series. Wednesday night, they were looking to extend that win streak.
San Diego was the first on the board, taking advantage of being on the powerplay. Yegor Sidorov scored his second power-play goal of the season. Coming into Wednesday night’s game, San Diego was last in place on the powerplay, with a 13.6%.
On the other side, San Jose was in last place with a 60.9%. San Diego struck again in the second period when Tim Washe scored his second goal of the season, his second point of the night. With two minutes left, San Diego sealed the win with an empty net goal, Tim Washe scored his second of the game.
The shots on goals were pretty equal throughout the night. After the first period, San Diego outshot San Jose 17 to 9. After the second period, San Jose outshot San Diego 12 to 11. After the third period, San Diego ended up outhooting San Jose 7 to 6. In the end, San Diego ultimately outshot San Jose 35 to 27.
Both teams went to the penalty box an equal amount of times. When Quentin Musty was called for a two minute penalty, that’s when the Gulls took advantage and scored first to take their first lead of the game. San Jose was zero and five on the powerplay while San Diego was one for four.
For San Jose, Gabriel Carriere got the start, looking for his first win of the season. For San Diego, Ville Husso got the start, coming into Wednesday night’s game with a 1-3 record. Carriere with 27 saves on 19 shots recorded his 3rd loss of the season. Husso with 24 saves on 24 shots recorded his second win and shutout of the season.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
Ville Husso
Tim Washe
Matthew Phillips
The Barracuda will be back in action on Friday, October 31st against the Ontario Reign. The last time these two teams faced off was in the Calder Cup playoffs when San Jose kicked Ontario out of the playoffs.
Chicago Bulls forward/guard Isaac Okoro (35) rebounds the basketball against the Sacramento Kings forward/center Drew Eubanks (19) in the first half at the United Center in Chicago on Wed Oct 29, 2025 (AP News photo)
By Barbara Mason
The Sacramento Kings (1-4) lost their third game in a row to the Chicago Bulls (4-0) 126-113. This was the largest margin this season for the team.
They have been in every game they have played so far with the exception of tonight’s game and their season record could be far different. Once again Zach LaVine led the Kings in scoring with 30 points.
Game recap: The Bulls led after the opening quarter wound down 36-33. It was a tight hotly contested first quarter of play . The Kings took the lead in the second quarter, their largest lead 12 points.
The Bulls at one time in the half had also taken a 12 point lead. The score was 64-62 with the Kings leading in this high octane contest. In the later minutes of the second quarter the Kings had established double digit leads.
Leading by 12 points with three minutes left in the half the Kings let the Bull erase their lead to pull within two points as the clock expired. The Bulls had gone on a nice run to end the second quarter.
Domantas Sabonis and Zach Lavine had the high scores in the first half. Sabonis with 12 points and LaVine with 16. Malik Monk also had double figure off the bench with 11 points. The Bulls had two two starters in double digits, Matas Buzelis with 17 points and Josh Giddey with 12 points. Kevin Huerter finished the first half with ten points off the bench. The second half would no doubt boast some more high caliber play.
Most importantly for the Sacramento Kings in the second half would be consistent play. They had a great handle on ball protection in the first half with only five turnovers. They were perfect from the line and they had seven steals in the half. With consistent play in the second half they would be in a great place to finish this game and come away with a win.
The third quarter was horrible for the Kings with consistency going out the window and questionable defensive effort They dropped the lead and allowed the Bulls to take a 72-66 lead. In the first couple of minutes they missed four shots falling off offensively to open the third quarter.
They had a pretty good start but had cooled off significantly in this game. With a lot of time left in the second half there was ample time to turn things around for Sacramento. Every time the Kings made a little headway, the Bulls pushed their lead back out.
The Bulls were blowing right through the Sacramento defense throughout the third quarter. As the third quarter came to an end the Bulls continued to lead 101-91. Through three quarters the Bulls had out-rebounded the Kings 33 to 21. The young Bulls had outpaced the Kings in the third quarter and showed no signs of slowing down.
The Bulls continued to extend their lead in the fourth quarter leading by 15 points 111-96 with nine minutes left in the game. So far this season the Kings had not figured out how to play four quarters struggling with inconsistent play.
The Bulls had hit 14 shots from downtown and were dominating offensively shooting 58 % from the field. The Kings had only hit seven three’s and began missing them late in the final quarter trying to make up the 120-108 deficit. It was a losing battle as the Kings could not match Chicago offensively.
The Kings lost their third game in a row after leading at the half. Their season record could look very different. They have been in every game with the exception of Wednesday night’s game. They had the Thunder on the ropes until the final three minutes of play.
They lost to the Suns by four points and played a close game with the Lakers. They have a core of veteran players starting and they are so close to cleaning things up. Wednesdaty night they only had ten turnovers a vast improvement. They have struggled defensively and have just not been consistent.
Once again Zach LaVine led the team in points with 30. DeMar DeRozan finished with 19 points and five rebounds and Domantas Sabonis had a double double with 11 rebounds and 18 points. Malik Monk had 15 points off the bench.
Game notes: After losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder Tuesday night in the final three minutes of play, the Kings traveled to Chicago for a matchup with the Bulls at United Center.
Despite the loss, the Kings played a great first half of basketball, did enough in the third quarter to win and led going into the final three minutes of the game. Sacramento was unable to finish the game falling short at the end.
They had a super solid starting lineup in that game and went with the same lineup in Wednesday night’s game. This is a fully competent bunch consisting of veterans Zach Lavine, Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan, Dennis Schroeder and Russell Westbrook; a group capable of getting the job done. The Kings also have Malik Monk and Keon Ellis off the bench. Both of them can really go off offensively.
This current road trip continues on Saturday as the Kings meet another contender the Milwaukee Bucks at Fiserv Forum. Tipoff for this game is scheduled for 2:00 PM PT.
