SAN JOSE — The San Jose Barracuda needed just one goal to defeat the Bakersfield Condors 1-0 on Saturday evening at Tech CU Arena.

Barracuda goalie Ilya Samsonov stopped all 23 shots he faced to earn his second win of the season and first shutout in a Cuda sweater.

San Jose has won three out of its last four games as it split the weekend series with its Central Valley rival. Bakersfield has lost three out of its last four games.

San Jose (6-7-0) dominated the first period outshooting the Condors 14-8 as they controlled the pace of play. They weren’t able to capitalize on the only power play of the opening frame as Condor’s goalie Nathaniel Day kept them off the scoreboard.

Bakersfield (4-6-1) wasn’t able to generate much offense in the opening 20 minutes as Samsonov matched his counterpart Day with a perfect first period.

The Barracuda finally broke through late in the second period thanks to a great individual effort by Andre Gasseau inside his own zone. Gasseau intercepted a pass back to the point and started a two-on-one odd man rush with Alex Barre-Boulet. Gasseau faked a pass before beating Day with a hard wrist shot to the short side for his sixth goal of the season at the 15:24 mark.

San Jose outshot Bakersfield 11-6 in the middle frame that featured another fruitless power play for the Barracuda.

Bakersfield, who outshot San Jose nine to eight in the third period, pulled Day with under 90 seconds for an extra attacker but wasn’t able to come up with the equalizer to force overtime. Day made 32 saves on 33 saves in the losing effort.

GAME NOTES: San Jose finished 0-for-4 on the power play. Bakersfield went 0-for-1.

UP NEXT: San Jose travel down south to San Diego to take on the Gulls on Wednesday November 11 at 7:00pm at Pechanga Arena San Diego.
