NBA Gambling Scandal, Operation Royal Flush and Greed

That’s Amaury News and Commentary

By Amaury Pi Gonzalez

Prosecutors say the suspects in Thursday’s NBA-Mafia-linked gambling bust used a wide range of sophisticated technology to cheat victims out of millions of dollars. At Thursday’s news conference, it was revealed that Operation Royal Flush began as early as 2019, with rigged games played in major markets like New York City.

In essence, this FBI investigation has been ongoing for five years. But now, everything is starting to come to the surface, with every day that goes by, more and more information is disclosed. This drip-drip story creates a nightmare scenario for a very lucrative sports league with a worldwide audience.

The NBA is both extremely popular and lucrative in China, where it is the country’s most popular sport with an estimated half a billion fans and a business value of around $5 billion. This story has worldwide repercussions.

Federal indictments filed in October 2025 allege that at least two NBA players faked injuries as part of an illegal gambling and game-manipulation scheme, and there is more. Some made bets based on information about a certain player who would not be available, thus encouraging someone “on the outside ” to bet against a particular team without their star player.

It is ugly, folks. From X-ray tables to hidden cameras and even per-marketed cards, prosecutors say the suspects in this NBA-Mafia-linked gambling bust used a wide range of very sophisticated technology in order to cheat victims out of millions of dollars.

At Thursday’s news conference, officials said the poker scheme, dubbed ‘Operation Royal Flush, started with an ” Expect domino effect ” after gambling allegations involving NBA” Said famous attorney Mark Geragos.

US Congress sent a letter to NBA commissioner Adam Silver requesting a briefing and expressing concern over “allegations of illegal gambling and sports rigging”. Looks like this NBA Gambling scandal has opened a can of worms.

The NCAA said Thursday it is investigating 13 Division I men’s basketball players at six schools — including Temple and Arizona State — for alleged violations of gambling rules and failing to cooperate with investigators.

The NBA has the highest average player earnings per year. In the 2024-25 season, the average NBA player salary was about $11.91 million, surpassing other major leagues like the National Football League (NFL) and Major League Baseball Politicians talk all the time about the “privilege class” in the United States, usually they do not go into sports, it becomes a talking point among political people, but the fact remains that professional sports in the United States is a very lucrative business for all involved, including players.

While the average salary of an American is around $63.000 per year, the average salary of an NBA player is around $11 million per year. $11 million per year would be more than enough for you and me and the majority of people, but there is one word that plays a big role here that nobody has mentioned.

Greed, one of the seven deadly sins, is a desire for more and more and more, like wealth, power, or possessions. We cannot forget that Greed is also part of this, even among those who are already millionaires.

Notes: Numerous regulated sports gambling websites are available in the U.S., but they are only accessible in states where sports betting is legal . Draft Kings and Fan Duel lead the market, with Bet MGM, Caesars Sportsbook, Fanatics Sportsbook, and bet365 also being popular choices.

That’s Amaury News and Commentary: Super Bowl LX Controversy is not about Football

Super Bowl LX Controversy is not about Football

That’s Amaury News and Commentary

By Amaury Pi Gonzalez

Super Bowl LX will take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Sunday, February 8, 2026. There has been considerable criticism, especially on social media, regarding the NFL’s selection of Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, a Puerto Rican rapper, singer, and record producer, as the halftime show entertainer.

He is known as the “King of Latin Trap”. He is better known as “Bad Bunny,” who is credited with helping Spanish-language rap music achieve mainstream popularity. He is 31 years old, born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.

Currently, the most famous and successful pop music star in the world is Taylor Swift, though she recently clarified she was never formally asked by the NFL to perform at the halftime show. Swift is a billionaire, with Bloomberg estimating her net worth at $2.1 billion as of October 2025, and she is also engaged to K.C. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

So, what about this guy ‘Bad Bunny”? This is all about money. The NFL plays regular-season games in countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, and Spain, with future games scheduled for Australia, Canada, and Ireland.

Through the Global Markets Program, NFL teams have been granted international marketing rights to build their fan base in specific countries. The league also leverages global media platforms, including streaming services, to engage fans worldwide.

Bad Bunny has stated his sexuality is fluid; sometimes during his performances, he dresses like a girl, and other times like a man. He is controversial in many ways, but some would say that’s just show business in 2025.

Ultimately, the NFL hired Bad Bunny to make them a lot of money. The NFL is one of the richest and most famous sports leagues in the world. The Super Bowl is not just another sporting event; it is a world event. During a recent appearance on NBC’s SNL, Bad Bunny announced he would be singing in Spanish and joked, “If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.”

The backlash was instant, especially on social media around the world—and mostly here in the United States, where today there is seldom a unified opinion about anything; it is like half the country believes the world is square and the other half believes it is round. (joking, of course).

The fact remains, Bad Bunny seems to thrive on controversy. This past Tuesday, during the seventh-inning stretch, traditional God Bless America at Yankee Stadium, he chose to ‘sit it out’ The only “rap” I know is the wrapping I do with my family at Christmas time, when I ‘rap’ presents, and as a kid, the only Bunny I remember was Bugs Bunny, whose voice was that of Mel Blanc, the legendary voice actor with an iconic Brooklyn and Bronx accent.

So I have never heard Bad Bunny on tape or during a life concert. I like to believe that the overwhelming majority of people are like me, who watch the Super Bowl for the game, not for the halftime show. In 2012, Super Bowl XLVI was considered the first “social media”Super Bowl due to increased marketing efforts and the use of “second screens” by viewers.

My wife enjoys watching the Super Bowl because of the commercials. Most people go to the refrigerator during the halftime show. So, you ask, what about this guy, they called “Bad Bunny”? The story goes that as a child in Puerto Rico, he wore a Bunny costume with an angry face. This inspired him to the concept of “El Conejo Malo,” “The Bad Bunny. And, that’s All, Folks!

#6 Where does the buck really stop in the Giants front office? The Giants have not been in the World Series since 2014 that’s going on 12 years now. Does it stop with team president Buster Posey, general manager Zack Minasian or Giants CEO Larry Baer who is the one really responsible for the Giants not making it to the fall classic the last 12 years?

That’s Amaury News and Commentary: MLB Notes 2025 -Giants get No Satisfaction; A’s finally recognize Sacramento

MLB Notes 2025 -Giants get No Satisfaction

That’s Amaury News and Commentary

By Amaury Pi-González

The San Francisco Giants got “No Satisfaction” like the great Rolling Stones song, as they ended the season with an 81-81 record, a tie, and. a .500 mark. Not going to the postseason. The Giants last qualified in 2021. They have a lot of work to do in the next few months to try to join the “big boys” of this division, LA and SD.

Mets learned that Money is not the Answer. The New York Mets, with the highest payroll in baseball, featuring Juan Soto at $765 million and Francisco Lindor at $341 million, among others, had a shot but failed to win game #162.

They are not going to the postseason. Manager Carlos Mendoza? His job is in danger. In New York, there is always danger for managers. The Cincinnati Reds had the 22nd-largest payroll among all 30 teams, approximately $90 million, and one of the best managers, Terry Francona.

They clinched a wild-card spot in the last game of the season. The last time the Reds were in a postseason was in 2020. Cleveland Guardians (formerly the Indians) completed a historic comeback, overcoming a 15 1/2 game deficit to take the lead this month and won the AL Central Division on the last day of the season by leaving the Detroit Tigers in the rear view mirror.

The feat that makes it the largest deficit ever erased to win a division in Major League Baseball history. Manager and ex-Oakland A’s catcher Stephen Vogt, in his second season as manager, took the team to the top. Blue Jays, Oh Canada!

They won the LA East Title over the Yankees. Last time the Blue Jays were in the postseason? 2016. Again, Vlad Guerrero Jr. justifies his $500 million, multi-year contract. New York, New York, Start spreading the news.

The Yankees secured a wild-card spot and advanced to the postseason as they finished in second place behind the Toronto Blue Jays. While the Blue Jays have their eyes on their third World Series title, the Yanks are going after their 28th.

Could the #1 city in the country have another parade? As I was on vacation, I ran into their last parade in Lower Manhattan in 2009, the last World Series they won. The Seattle Mariners won the AL West division, clinching their first AL West title since 2001.

Catcher Cal Raleigh had 60 home runs, 125 RBIs, and a .248 batting average. First catcher ever to hit 60 home runs in a single season, and the 12th catcher in history to have multiple 30-plus HR seasons. Cal Raleigh holds the MLB record for most home runs by a switch-hitter in a single season, surpassing Mickey Mantle’s 1961 record of 54 home runs with his 55th of the 2025 season, and, like above-mentioned, he ended with 60 home runs.

He is one of two top candidates for the AL MVP, with Yankee Aaron Judge, who won the batting title. hitting .330 with 53 home runs and 114 RBIs, plus an OPS of 1,149. The Brewers from Milwaukee ended with the best record in baseball, 97-65, winning the AL Central Division and marking their best year in franchise history.

They have never won a World Series. In 1982, they lost their only World Series to the St. Louis Cardinals, in the battle of the “beer cities.” Four million Blue. The Los Angeles Dodgers surpassed 4 million in attendance.

The Dodgers hold the record for the longest active streak of consecutive playoff appearances in MLB, a streak that stands at 13 seasons. They were the favorites to win the World Series prior to the start. With the MLB postseason underway, the Philadelphia Phillies, Seattle Mariners, and defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers are all involved.

“All World” Ohtani hit his 55th home run during their last game of the season at Chávez Ravine. My pick for the team that could go all the way, not mentioned here, is the San Diego Padres. They have all the talent necessary to make it all the way to the 2025 World Series Champions.

A’s Big News ! The A’s biggest news at year’s end. The Athletics will be introducing a new gold/yellow alternate jersey for the 2026 season, featuring “Sacramento” written on the front, in honor of their temporary home at Sutter Health Park. Why?

Lots of people, not only in California but all over the country, had NO IDEA where the A’s were playing. I know I missed other teams that are in the postseason, but I am exhausted.
