On the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs podcast with Len Shapiro:

#1 The Montreal Canadiens swept the Winnipeg Jets in four games on Monday night with a 3-2 win. Tyler Toffoli who scored at 1:39 in over time sent the Canadiens to the next round. The Habs have won seven straight games since being down 3-1 to Toronto.

#2 New York Islanders head coach Barry Trotz is a genius of sorts the Isles who had a three goal lead were starting to lose control but Trotz calling a time out and calmed everyone down and the Islanders skated out and played their game getting a one goal 5-4 win over the Boston Bruins taking a 3-2 lead.

#3 The Tampa Bay Lightning are headed to the next round of the playoffs after getting a 2-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night in Carolina taking the series 4-1. The key to the game 5 win comes from the help of Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy who stopped all 29 shots for the shutout.

#4 Offensively the Lightning got scoring help from Ross Colton and Brayden Point who scored a goal each and it was enough to win game 5 to advance. Len, talk about Colton and Brayden’s scoring on Tuesday night for the win.

#5 The Vegas Golden Knights Mark Stone got a crucial goal early in overtime on Tuesday night at the Pepsi Center in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche for a 3-2 win breaking a 2-2 deadlock. Both goaltenders Marc Andre Fleury for the Knights and Phillipp Brubauer for the Aves were playing standing on their heads in this nail biter.

#1 The Montreal Canadiens (2-0) wasted no time jumping to a 2-0 series lead over the Winnipeg Jets (0-2). The Canadiens who had a successful previous series against the Toronto Maple Leafs that they won in seven games have really come into this series with a head of steam.

#2 The Canadiens took game 1 rather handedly 5-3 on Wednesday and on Friday night got an amazing shutout in a well played defensive game 1-0. Habs goalie Carey Price stopped all 30 shots for the shutout and they got their only goal in the second period by Tyler Toffoli which stood up for the win.

#3 The Vegas Golden Knights (1-2) avoided going 0-3 with a one goal win over the Colorado Avalanche (2-1) 3-2 on home ice at T Mobile Center in Las Vegas. The Knights got scoring from William Karlsson, Jonathan Marchessault, and Max Pacioretty.

#4 Matt, talk about tonight’s games we’ll start with game 4 between the Boston Bruins who lead the series over the New York Islanders 2-1 the Islanders have home ice at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale.

#4 The Carolina Hurricanes are down 1-3 against the Tampa Bay Lightning (3-1) as they faced off today in Tampa Bay for game 4. The Bolts come away with a 6-4 win over the Canes with game 5 Tuesday night at Carolina.

#1 The Tampa Bay Lightning (2-0) got by the Carolina Hurricanes 0-2) 2-1 Alex Killorn and Anthony Cirelli were the Lightning scorers and it was enough to get by the Hurricanes in game 2 a very close game 2-1.

#2 Len talk about the job between the pipe for the Lightning’s Andrei Vasilevskiy stopping 31 out of 32 shots.

#3 The Hurricanes only goal was from Andrei Svechinkov in the third period but time ran out and Carolina finds itself two games in the hole to Tampa Bay.

#4 For Vasilevskiy before the game was nominated for the Vezina Trophy which is presented to one of the top three finalists for NHL goaltenders the other two nominated Marc Andre Fluery of the Vegas Golden Knights and Phillipp Brubauer of the Colorado Avalanche Vasilevskiy in game 1 stopped 37 Carolina shots and had 15 saves in the first period.

#5 So after the first two games in Carolina the Lightning and Hurricanes head to Tampa Bay where the Lightning have home ice and a 2-0 advantage.

#1 The Tampa Bay Lightning (5-1-1) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard to defeat the Nashville Predators (4-5-0) on Monday night 5-2. The Lightning scored three times in the first period and Nashville goalie Juuse Saros took the loss facing 25 shots and saving 21.

#2 The Boston Bruins (6-1-2) down 3-1 to the Washington Capitals (6-1-3) in the third period erased the Caps lead scoring four goals to surpass Washington to get a 5-3 win at Capital One Center in DC.

#3 The Montreal Canadiens (6-1-2) are a machine after taking their first regulation loss of the season on Saturday to the Calgary Flames. The Habs got a big victory over the Vancouver Canucks (6-6-0) 6-2 at the Bell Center in Montreal. The Canadiens scored three times in each of the first and second periods.

#4 The Pittsburgh Penguins (5-4-1) and New York Rangers (3-4-2) tied in a 1-1 deadlock the Rangers were able to get two key goals in the third period and come up with a two goal win over the Penguins. Chris Kreider and Artemi Panarin scored a goal each for the Rangers in the third period for the 3-1 win.

#5 The Calgary Flames down 2-1 against the Winnipeg Jets going into the third period scored twice with Johnny Gaudreau and Andrew Mangiapane scoring a goal each to force an overtime shootout. In the shootout the Flames got two goals and the Jets one for the Flames 4-3 win.

#1 The St Louis Blues (3-1-1) got a two goal win over the Los Angeles Kings (1-2-2) 4-2 on Saturday night. The Blues got scoring from Torey Krug (1), Vince Dunn (1), David Perron (1), and Jayden Schwartz (1).  Blues goalie Jordan Binnington stopped 21 LA shots and allowed two goals.

#2 The Boston Bruins (3-1-1) had the offense scoring two goals in the second period and three goals in the third period to get a 6-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. The Bruins Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand each scored two goals.

#3 The Montreal Canadiens (4-0-2) lead for most of the game 2-0. The Habs scored three goals in the third period as the Vancouver Canucks scored two in the third for the 5-2 win. The Canadiens goalie Carey Price allowed two goals and stopped 23 shots.

#4 The Columbus Blue Jackets (2-2-2) got a 5-2 win over one of the best teams in the NHL over the Tampa Bay Lightning (3-1-0). The Jackets jumped to a 3-2 in  the first period and scored two goals in the third period.

#5 The game between the Florida Panthers and Hurricanes was canceled due to a lack of available players on the Hurricanes due to Covid-19 related issues. The Canes were missing five players key forwards Jordan Staal, Teuvo Teravainen, top defencemen Jacob Slavin also forwards Warren Foegele and Jordan Martinook.

#1 The Philadelphia Flyers got a three goal win over the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2. The Flyers got scoring help from Travis Konecny who scored twice in the first period and got the hat trick in the third period at 17:53.

#2  Good back and forth hockey from the Washington Capitals and the Buffalo Sabers in a 2-1 win for the Caps. Washington got goal scoring help from Jakub Vrana his second of the year at 1:34 in the second period. The second Caps goal came from Tom Wilson who scored his first goal of the season at 7:47 in third period.

#3 The Tampa Bay Lighting got a three goal win over the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2. Tampa Bay got goals from five different Bolts, Ondrej Palot, Alex Killorn and Blake Coleman scored in the second period. In the third period Yanni Gourde and Steven Stamkos each had a goal.

#4 The Toronto Maple Leafs were no match for the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night for Hockey Night in Canada. The Sens got goal scoring help in their 5-3 win from Thomas Chabot, Brody Tkachuk, Austin Watson, and Derek Stepan. Leafs goalie Frederik Anderson stopped 19 shots and allowed five goals.

#5 Talk about the NHL Champs St Louis Blues who got blown out by the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night 8-0. Talk about St Louis goaltender Ville Husso who saw a lot shots in net last night.

#1 Marko Tampa Bay Lightning center Brayden Point missed playing at Rogers Centre on Tuesday night in game five against the New York Islanders the game went into double overtime on Tuesday how much did the Bolts miss Point in the line up?

2. Brayden had a goal and an assist in game 4 which was played on Sunday, Brayden missed action after the New York Islanders Adam Pelech hit him at 9:51 in the third perod.

#3 Point means a lot to the Lightning he has 25 points which translates to nine goals and 16 assists. The Bolts looked like they just couldn’t get any offense going against the Islanders going in regulation in game six on Tuesday night.

#4 Marko talk about the job that Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov did in allowing only one goal in a double overtime in game 6 on Tuesday night facing a barrage of 37 shots saving 36 of them to help keep the Isles alive in a one goal win 2-1. With the Lightning ahead in the series 3-2.

#5 The series is now 3-2 Tampa Bay in front as both the Bolts and Isles face off for game six on Thursday night after seeing that neither team gave up any ground in game five how do you see this match up for game six on Thursday night?

#1 The New York Islanders got motivation down two games to none the Islanders got help from Brock Nelson who scored the tie breaking goal with 3:25 left in the third period for the 5-3 win.

#2 Scoring in the game the Islanders Cal Cutterbuck (2) 12:58 opened the game up with a goal for a New York 1-0 lead.

#3 Tampa Bay tied the game at 16:31 in the first period Mikhail Sergachev scored his second goal of the playoffs 1-1.

#4 In the second period Adam Pelech (1) scored at 11:50 to put the Islanders back in front 2-1

#5 The Islanders pulled two goals ahead at 13:50 with a Anthony Beauvillier (9) second period goal.

#1 The New York Islanders got to work right away on the Philadelphia Flyers in game 7 in a 4-0 shutout.

#2 The Islanders Scott Mayfield scored in the first period at 9:27 for his first goal of the playoffs. The Islanders added more when Andy Greene scored his second goal of the playoffs goal at 13:12 for a 2-0 Islanders lead going into the intermission.

#3 The Islanders Brock Nelson has been the deal breaker for New York this post season lighting the lamp again for his seventh goal of the post season in the second period which turned out to be the only goal for the second period Isles up 3-0.

#4 Third period the Islanders put the frosting on the cake when Anthony Beauvillier scored his eighth goal of the playoffs at 13:42 for a 4-0 score.

#5 The Islanders advance to the next round of the playoffs against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night Mary Lisa who do you like in that series there is no doubt it’s the best versus the best.
