On the San Francisco Giants podcast with Morris:

#1 San Francisco Giants came into Atlanta on Friday and snapped the Braves’ five-game win streak and later swept the series defeating Atlanta 4-3.

#2 Not an easy task for the Giants, but they accomplished a sweep over the Braves for the first time since 2014–the last time they won the World Series.

#3 The Giants got offensive help from Nick Hundley and Pablo Sandoval, who both got RBI singles in helping the four-run cause.

#4 The game on Saturday was a laugher for San Francisco with a 11-2 hitting rampage and it set the tone for the Giants, who were going to dominate this series at Sun Trust Field in Cobb County.

#5 The Giants open a three-game series in Philadelphia tonight at Citizens Bank. We asked Morris how he sees these two teams matching up.

NHL Stanley Cup Playoff podcast with Matt:

#1 After the Boston Bruins Brad Marchand licked the face of the Tampa Bay Lighting’s winger Ryan Callahan, that was enough to light the fuse and the Lightning. Marchand said that Callahan punched him in the face four times and kept getting close and said it was not a big deal. The Bolts get the 4-3 win in overtime in Game 4 to take a 3-1 lead.

#2 The Vegas Golden Knights got a 5-3 win in regulation to take a 3-2 series lead. The Knights well ahead of San Jose scoring a goal in the first period and two in the second, but the sleeping Shark woke up answering back with three goals to tie it 3-3 in the third period but the Knights would have none of it and roared back with two goals to win it 5-3.

#3 In Washington tonight, the Pittsburgh Penguins, who tied up the series 2-2 with the Caps on Thursday with a 3-1 win do battle again tonight for Game 5. In Game 4, the defense put the pressure on both of the Caps and Pens key players Alexander Ovechkin for the Caps and Sid Crosby for the Pens neither scored a goal, but what’s worse was neither even got a shot on goal in Game 4.

#4 The Nashville Predators pulled off a tough win in Winnipeg on Thursday night in Game 4 to tie up the series 2-2. It’s been a back and forth series as the Jets won Game 3 at home convincingly 7-4 for their short series lead.

Pelicans bounce back with 19-point win over Warriors in Game 3 119-100

New Orleans built a double-digit lead in the first half and cruised to a 119-100 victory over Golden State Friday in Game 3 of their best-of-seven NBA West series at New Orleans.

The Warriors still have a 2-games-to-1 lead in the series.

After JaVale McGee’s dunk gave the Warriors a one-point lead midway through the first quarter, Nikola Mirotic responded with a 3-pointer on the Pelicans’ next possession and New Orleans led the remainder of the contest. The Pelicans built a 15-point lead by the second quarter, though Golden State cut their deficit to six by halftime on Klay Thompson’s third 3-pointer of the quarter.

Thompson led the Warriors with 26 points, 20 of them in the second quarter. Kevin Durant was next with 22 and Steph Curry added 19. Draymond Green finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists

Curry became the first Warriors player to score 2,000 career postseason points, now at 2,012. He also became the first Warrior to pass the 500 postseason assist mark and passed Reggie Miller for fourth all time in career postseason 3-pointers with 322. Miller had 320.

After Solomon Hill nailed three 3-pointers in the first quarter off the Pelicans bench, the tone was set. Ex-Warrior Ian Clark scored 18 points in 22 minutes. Rajon Rondo dished out 21 assists, a Golden State playoff opponent record.

Hill and Clark combined for six of the Pelicans’ 14 3-balls while the Golden State bench was held to 10 points over the first three quarters. Anthony Davis led the Pelicans with 33 points and 18 rebounds, and Jrue Holiday added 21 points and five assists.

The series continues in New Orleans at 12:30 p.m. PDT in New Orleans.

#1 Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson was suspended three games in the playoffs for a hit to the head on the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Zach Aston-Reese during Game 3, which says the NHL has zero tolerance of deliberate head injuries.

#2 The Golden State Warriors in the first two games of their playoffs with the New Orleans Pelicans have dominated particularly in Game 2 when Stephen Curry made his return on Tuesday night.

#3 Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, who is signed up for $100 million, 10 years might also start earning more than his money’s worth according to Bleacher Report. Gruden could tabbed the team’s general manager and team CEO as well as head coach, which might send current GM Reggie McKenzie packing. It might be more than Gruden can bite off or can he handle it and make the Raiders a team of excellence again?

#4 During the NFL draft, the Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen got a little braggadocious after he was selected 10th in the draft, saying, “I was pretty pissed off as I saw teams passing on me there were nine mistakes ahead of me.” The Cardinals’ coaching staff is expected to put Rosen’s draft thought process into prospective, but soon.

#5 San Francisco Giants pitcher Johnny Cueto goes on the 10-day DL for an elbow injury as San Francisco’s injury list is swelling with Joe Panik out on the 10-day DL with a thumb injury, Madison Bumgarner has taken to the mound and is rehabbing, the Giants’ Mark Melancon out for the rest of the season and Jeff Samardjiza who came back from a pectoral injury is 1-1 with an ERA of 5.27.

#1 The Oakland A’s pitching corp are trying to get things together it was another tough night for A’s starter Andrew Triggs, who went four innings, six hits, four runs, three walks and four strikeouts in the 6-3 loss to the Mariners Tuesday night.

#2 The A’s face Seattle in the getaway game on Thursday night. A’s starter Sean Manaea (4-2) gets the call for the A’s and he’ll face Mariners starter Wade LaBlanc (0-0). Manaea has had great command since he pitched a no-hitter against the Boston Red Sox in April.

#3 Wednesday, the A’s started Brett Anderson. Anderson made his first appearance for Oakland since September 28, 2013. Anderson last started a game for the A’s in April of that year.

#4 A’s pitcher Trevor Cahill has kept the A’s in ball games since he’s been up with the team and A’s manager Bob Melvin has been happy with the way Cahill has helped out.

#5 The A’s, after playing their series in Seattle, head back to the Oakland Coliseum to open a three-game series with the last place Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles, who have also been struggling, are last and 13 games back in the AL East

#1 The Vegas Golden Knights lead the San Jose Sharks 2-1 in their best of seven series with Game 4 slated for tonight in San Jose.

#2 Nashville and Winnipeg go at it again with Game 4 Thursday night. The Predators and Jets played game 3 on Tuesday night with Winnipeg getting the win 7-4 to take the lead in the series 2-1

#5 Peter DeBoer has had the skaters do some intense speed skating in the morning skate the option to keep up with the Knights. It will be intense if the Sharks aim to tie the series up tonight.

Curry returns, Warriors hold off Pelicans in Game 2 121-116

After five weeks off due to injuries, Steph Curry returned to the Golden State Warriors in grand fashion on Tuesday at Oracle Arena, bagging 28 points in 26 minutes off the bench, helping Golden State defeat New Orleans 121-116.

The Warriors have a 2-games-to-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinal best-of-seven.

Warriors Coach Steve Kerr chose not to start Curry, going with Nick Young instead. Curry entered the game with 4:20 left in the first quarter, receiving a rousing ovation. Curry, who missed five weeks with a sprained MCL in his left knee, sank a 3-pointer with his first shot and rolled on from there.

Kevin Durant led the Warriors with 29 points, hitting 5-of-6 in the fourth quarter. Draymond Green contributed 20 points, nine boards and 12 assists.

Klay Thompson suffered through an off-night, hitting 4-of-20 shooting – 2-of-11 behind the arc – finishing with 10 points. But the Warriors’ bench made up for it, outscoring the Pelicans’ reserves 44-13.

New Orleans received strong production from its core – Jrue Holiday scored 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out eight assists in 46 minutes; Anthony Davis finished with 25 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, two steals and three blocks; Nikola Mirotic fouled out with 18 points and nine boards; and Rajon Rondo added 22 points, seven rebounds and 12 assists.

As an aside, Green and Rondo were seen having words going to the locker rooms at halftime. On TNT, Charles Barley said, “I just want somebody to punch him in the face.”

Upon learning what Barkley said, Green felt that if Barkley wants someone to do that, then Barkley should be the one.

“If you’re not going to punch me in the face when you see me, then shut up,” Green said.

The series resumes in New Orleans on Friday night.
