#2 Raiders tight end Jared Cook said that it was frustrating and the Raiders that they have all the pieces, but the pieces weren’t doing the right things.

#3 Quarterback Derek Carr took a beating was sacked seven times and he threw 16 times and six of those resulted in punts.

#4 Head coach Jon Gruden said the Raiders have the talent, but just couldn’t execute also there is a question about the Raiders’ second half execution.

#3 Mullens said after the game that he was there for a reason do you see him starting next Monday night against the New York Giants?

#4 Mullens quarterback rating was the highest of a 49ers quarterback in six years after the win against the Raiders on Thursday night.

#1 The Stanford Cardinal (5-3) probably won’t up the passing game much like they did last Saturday at Pullman against the Washington State University Cougars in their 41-38 loss when they face University of Washington Huskies.

#2 The loss to WSU put some doubts for Stanford’s chances to get to win the Northwest title.

#3 After Stanford quarterback KJ Costello had his hand stepped on during their visit to Arizona State University, he came up throwing against WSU for a nice recovery last Saturday, going 33-43 for 323 yards.

#4 The last time Stanford had a quarterback open up the passing game was when Andrew Luck threw 29-46 for 241 yards in a 52-31 loss to Oregon in Eugene back on October 2, 2010. Costello threw eight passes last Saturday.

#5 Head coach David Shaw said of playing in Seattle that rain, cold, and the 11th man (the noise) could be a factor and that he expects Costello to keep the ball against the Huskies more than he did against WSU.

#1 The second place San Jose Sharks (6-3-3) came up short in a shootout with the New York Rangers (4-7-1) last Tuesday. The Sharks got goal help from Tomas Hertl early on. Hertl’s goal contributed to a tie at the time 3-3.

#2 The Rangers came back and got goals from Chris Kreider, who scored twice, and Nats Zuccarello.

#3 The Sharks’ Timo Meier and Brett Burns also scored for the Sharks.

#4 In the shootout, goalie Martin Jones stopped all but one shot. The Rangers’ Kevin Shattenkirk scored the game-winning goal in the shootout.

#5 The Sharks take on the Columbus Blue Jackets (6-5-0) tonight at SAP Center. Mary Lisa sets this one up.

#1 How bad does it get for Ohio State Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer, who said on Tuesday he’ll coach as long as he can, as he announced that he has a cyst in his brain. Meyer swears he’ll be back next season.

#2 How much of a role or credit will Sacramento Kings’ head coach Dave Joerger get for turning around a club that has now won four straight?

#3 The Golden State Warriors’ Klay Thompson just got on a roll on Monday night with 52 points and 14 rebounds and when you get hot, the Chicago Bulls couldn’t stop Golden State, who scored 92 points in the first half.

#4 The Oakland Raiders head to Santa Clara to face the San Francisco 49ers in the last time these two teams will meet for the Raiders as an Oakland team. Lots of history and this should be a great draw for Thursday Night Football.

#5 The Milwaukee Bucks are the last undefeated team in the NBA at 7-0. For an NBA team to do what the Bucks have done, you have to go back to the 1971-72 season when the Bucks started that season at 7-0.

#1 From the jump, there was little doubt the Indianapolis Colts’ offense took charge. Was there an inkling that this was going to be a long afternoon for the Oakland Raiders’ defense?

#2 Oakland finished with 347 yards of total offense and was 4-of-8 on third downs, but  couldn’t overcome running back Doug Martin’s (13 carries for 72 yards) fumble late in the fourth quarter in Oakland’s territory that was recovered by Indianapolis.

#3 Raider quarterback Derek Carr, who was criticized for his performance in London, had a decent afternoon last Sunday, going 21-28 for 244 yards and four touchdowns–three of those on passes and one on a carry.

#4 Former Oakland Raider Amari Cooper was compared to what is happening, Cooper who finished with a career-high 132 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries, has rushed for 100+ yards in back-to-back weeks after rushing for 126 yards on 19 carries (previous career-highs) and a touchdown last week against the Buffalo Bills.

#5 The Raiders square off with the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara this Thursday night. Tony sets this game up for us.

San Jose Barracuda podcast with Marko Ukalovic: After sweeping San Antonio and Texas, Barracuda back on home ice at 7-0

#1 The San Jose Barracuda (7-0-1-0) came into Texas and swept San Antonio and Texas (4-3-1-1) on Friday and Saturday.

#2 The Stars wasted no time opening the game with a goal in the first period when Michael Mersch scored on a tip-in, a five-hole past Barracuda goalie Antoine Bibeau to get things started.

#3 The Barracuda’s Jayden Halbgewachs tied things up a minute later 2:33 later and it would be first of six unanswered goals for the Barracuda.

#4 The Barracuda scored four goals in the second period and the Stars didn’t offer any counter defense one of the reasons why the Barracuda are carrying first place in the AHL.

#5 The Barracuda host San Antonio on Friday night at SAP Center at 7:00 PM. Seeing what the Barracuda did to San Antonio last Friday and now the game is on home ice, the odds are pretty good for San Jose.

Cal Bears Basketball report: Cal shows off some offense in 82-62 exhibition win over Cal State East Bay

BERKELEY, Calif. –The offensive showing on Tuesday night at Haas Pavilion by the Cal Bears is delivered much more than last season’s 8-24 team with a 20-point win over Cal State East Bay 82-62. The Bears were trying to get that chemistry going after a suspect first half.

The Bears finally rattled off a 10-1 run of Cal State and took a 21-point lead.

Paris Austin who transferred from Boise State to Cal, said in postgame interviews: “I think we’ve got some good athletes on our team. Transition will be something that would be really good for us, but it starts on defense. Our team defense and then rebounding a ball and getting out early.”

The Bears’ Justice Sueing hit a three-pointer and the Bears’ Jacob Gordon also hit a three. Gordon is amazing he’s coming off an Achilles tear and he he hit a pair of free throws. The Bears’ Grant Anticevich complimented the offensive run with a dunk during the run.

Also, the Bears got three assists in the 10-1 run keeping in mind that the Bears had a dismal record on assists, ranking 350 in the NCAA and averaging 9.8 a game. The assist factor was working so good Austin got eight of 12 assists for Cal. Sueing, who took many of Austin’s passes, converted to help build up the offensive assist numbers.

Matt Bradley also was a big part of scoring with Austin saying, “Tonight I knew that, in order to play good my first game, I just had to play really aggressive and not really think about messing up or getting a bucket whatever it was.”

Who is Nick Mullens? 49ers May Lean on Third Stringer on Thursday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — It all comes down to Nick Mullens. Few would have thought we’d ever hear those words in San Francisco, but there is a chance that the undrafted second-year Southern Miss quarterback get the start on Thursday against the Oakland Raiders.

Mullens has split time between being the backup and practice squad QB in his year and a half with the Niners.

CJ Beathard is a game-time decision this week due to an injured wrist that was so severe, he was struggling to hang onto the ball in practice on Monday.

A sarcastic fan may ask if Beathard has been hurt this entire season due to his ten-plus turnovers since week three.

But that is not the case. A hit helmet on the follow-through of a pass in the third quarter may be the cause to the third-stringer getting his big chance on primetime.

With Beathard now in question, Mullens gets his chance in the limelight to win over the hearts of the red and gold. He’s got the pedigree too.

A graduate of Southern Miss, he hails from the football factory that produced Brett Farve. The 6-1 quarterback holds every record in the school’s history including throwing for a career 11,994 yards, good enough for sixth in NCAA history.

Named was the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year in 2015 and 2016, where he threw for a combined 62 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

Mullens would face the 1-7 Oakland Raiders, as the Niners continue through their easiest three-game stretch of the schedule. The Raiders demise with John Gruden back at the helm has kept the spotlight off the horrendous season happening in Santa Clara, but now it arrives in the worst primetime game in NFL history.

The Raiders look lost on defense this year, after dealing Kahlil Mack to begin the season. Without him, they have the 26th-ranked defense that fails to find the quarterback, averaging less than a sack per game.

Their offense is somehow worse, ranked 27th in the NFL with 19.7 points per game. They’ve shown an inability to move or stop the ball and are easily the 49ers easiest opponent on the season.

After dumping Sunday’s game in yet another blown lead heading into the fourth quarter, the 49ers could sure use a win. As of right now, they’re the clubhouse favorites to draft first overall at this year’s draft. The difference between being 2-7 and 1-8 may lie on the hands of a quarterback making his debut.

Notes: Greg Maybin and Victor Bolden were both waved on Tuesday as the Niners stayed pat at the trade deadline.

Hertl Beats the Clock, but Hank Is King in the Rangers’ 4-3 Shootout Win Over the Sharks

SAN JOSE, Calif. — The San Jose Sharks fell to the visiting New York Rangers 4-3 in a shootout Tuesday night, but in many ways they should feel fortunate to walk away with even the loser point. Tomas Hertl with less than two seconds left and the Sharks’ net empty to tie the game at 3-3. Chris Kreider scored twice for the Rangers and Mats Zuccarello netted a goal for the Blue shirts. Timo Meier scored his team-best ninth goal of the year for the Sharks and Brent Burns scored his third of the year.

San Jose now moves into a tie for first place in the Pacific Division with Calgary, each team boasting 15 points–though, the Sharks have a game in hand. The Rangers pick up a fourth win in their 12th game of what looks like it will be a long season.

Burns opened the scoring just 3:22 into play, beating Henrik Lundqvist for a 1-0 Sharks lead. That’d be the last thing to go right for the Sharks in the first after Zuccarello found the equalizer a minute later. New York outshot San Jose 17-6 in the period.

The otherwise lifeless Sharks picked up the pace in the second, peppering Lundqvist with 14 shots to just six on their keeper Martin Jones, but neither team could break the stalemate. Kreider opened the third with his fifth goal of the season one-timer just 1:13 into the period before Meier stepped up.

The power forward continued his breakout year coming in on a 2-on-1 8:14 into the third. Instead of passing the puck, Meier ripped a lethal snipe to tie the game. Kreider would again provide a dagger with 9:55 left in the period. Hertl beat lundvist with Jones pulled to tie the game at three-all with just 1.6 seconds left in regulation.

In the shootout both goalies stood tall. Jones, after making 34 saves in regulation and overtime, stopped all but one of the shooters he faced. Kevin Shattenkirk was the lone man to beat him, but Hank was also up to the challenge and didn’t let up a single shootout goal after making 31 saves over regulation and overtime.

The Sharks continue a three-game homestand, taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets Thursday night before welcoming in another Eastern Conference foe, the Philadelphia Flyers Saturday night.
