#5 Playing back-to-back games Saturday in Ottawa and Sunday in Montreal, Ottawa in seventh in the Atlantic handled the Sharks well forcing them to turn over the puck and the Sens were able to poke the puck through the Sharks defense for the four-goal win 6-2.

#6 Today was the California Golden Seals hockey lunch that Len attended a reunion of former Seals players, broadcasters and staff. Also, the Seals boosters had a tribute at SAP Center that was unforgettable two seasons ago–dedicated to former players, broadcasters, front office staff and former media relations manager our very own Len Shapiro.

On the NHL podcast with Matt:

#1 The Anaheim Ducks on Friday night got a key win over the Carolina Hurricanes in overtime when the Ducks’ Ryan Getzlaf got a breakaway goal that rang the post to give the Ducks a 3-2 win over the Canes. Getzlaf’s goal came at 1:15 in the overtime.

#2 Nicklas Backstrom hadn’t had a hat trick since 2014, but got one for the history books on Friday night for the Washington Capitals as this team is hot with seven straight wins as they picked up a three-goal win over New Jersey.

#3 The Florida Panthers’ Alexsander Barkov at 2:26 in overtime got the game-winner as the Panthers edged the Buffalo Sabres 3-2. Buffalo lost it’s second game in two nights.

#4 There was no stopping the Calgary Flames as Mikael Backlund got two goals and assist to put away the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night 4-1.

#5 The St. Louis Blues in overtime got a goal from Colton Parayko to defeat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2. The last place Blues improved their record to 9-12-3 while the Avs dropped their record to 15-6-5 Avs are in second in the Central. The Avs snapped their six-game win streak with the loss to the Blues.

49ers Try to Pull the Impossible Against Seahawks on Sunday

SANTA CLARA — The rivalry is renewed this Sunday as the 2-9 San Francisco 49ers travel up to Seattle to take on the hated 6-5 Seahawks. The rivalry has been relatively one-sided of late with Seattle taking every game since 2013.

They’ve done an exceptional job defending Century Link with the assistance of the 12th man, as the 49ers haven’t won in Seattle in 2011. Much of this is thanks to Russell Wilson, who is 11-2 all-time against the red and gold. Wilson is once again having an incredible season, passing for 2,531 yards thus far with 25 touchdowns and five interceptions.

It’ll be an uphill climb for the 49ers’ defense that has only forced five turnovers all season, including just two interceptions all year. They’ll need a huge rebound after the worst performance of the season in an 18-point embarrassment where the defense failed to get a takeaway. It’s especially horrendous when it happens against the Bucs, who have been handing out turnovers like they’re Christmas presents with 29 on the season.

The Seahawks are right in the middle of the playoff fight, currently the first team out, but a huge win against an abysmal 49ers team will most likely bump them right back in.

This Sunday, we’ll learn whether or not last weekend’s performance was due to the Reuben Foster meltdown that occurred on Saturday night or if this team has quit on Shanahan and co. If it’s the latter, it’s time to recognize the hot seat.

One player that would love to go into Seattle and turn things around is Richard Sherman. The all-pro corner returns to his old stomping grounds for the first time in red and gold, chirping all week long in preparation.

#1 San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is so concerned about the noise level that they had to deal with at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay last Sunday. He plans to ask the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to have the very loud PA announcer to keep the volume down.

#2 Shanahan is quite familiar with the noise level at upcoming CenturyLink Field this coming Sunday-a place better know for the fans as the 12th man.

#3 The Seattle Seahawks have won seven straight home games, making the 49ers visit to Century Link tough enough in spite of dealing with the loud crowd.

#4 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens quarterback rating has taken a dive since his debut against the Raiders (151.9) against the New York Giants (73.3), and then it fell against Tampa Bay (62.1).

#5 The Reuben Foster signing by Washington took many by surprise and only two days after he was let go by the 49ers. Washington’s head coach Jay Gruden said the team will address the community saying the team will address the outcry and they’ll try and find out exactly what happened.

Stanford Cardinal basketball podcast with Joey Friedman: Young team finding each other scrapped to get last win; Face Kansas Saturday

#1 The Stanford Cardinal got only one win in three games in the Bahamas during last week’s Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament. Stanford got a second win in their last four games on Wednesday night back home at Maples Pavilion in a 79-69 over the Portland State Vikings.

#2 Down by four 14-10 with 12 minutes left in the first half the Cardinal rallied with a lay up by Lukas Kisunas, Cormac Ryan’s three-pointers, and Jaiden Delaire on a dunk for a 17-14 in the first half.

#3 The bench helped out for Stanford in the last five minutes of the first half to get the Cardinal up 30-23. It didn’t last long as the Portland State Vikings moved the ball on a 12-2 run and took a 35-34 one point lead at half time.

#4 In the back and forth game, the Cardinal were able to manage a 79-67 win.

#5 It’s off to Kansas for Saturday, Dec. 1st game against the Cardinal’s third meeting against a ranked school. Stanford is 0-2 against ranked opponents this season.

#1 A big welcome to Cal (2-3) freshmen Matt Bradley and Andre Kelly. Can they get better with Bradley and Kelly in the lineup?

#2 In the Bears’ 78-66 victory at Haas Pavilion Monday night, Darius McNeill told Bears head coach Wyking Jones to let him stay in the game. Turns out there was a method to the madness as McNeil was feeding Bradley and Kelly, who helped score some important points. 

#3 It was Bradley’s 13 points of the Bears 15 points in the final 6:33 of the game that pulled them away from the Santa Clara Broncos. 

#4 Jones said that it was the players trust in each other and passing the ball that made a difference in this one.

#5 The Bears’ tipoff against the St. Mary’s Gales (2-5) Saturday night in Moraga with the Gales on a slide. Can the Bears take advantage of the Gales with home court advantage?

#1 Tony talks about the Baltimore Ravens and their 2016 Heisman Trophy winner quarterback LaMar Jackson, who is making a lot of headway in the NFL. LaMar, before last Sunday’s game against the Raiders, had himself a career day on Nov. 18th, throwing for 71 yards, a touchdown, carried 27 times for 117 yards. Last Sunday, Jackson led the Ravens to another victory against the Raiders.

#2 Will there be a quarterback controversy in Baltimore between Jackson and Joe Flacco? That’s something that Ravens head coach John Harbaugh will have to decide, but the Ravens pounded the Raiders on offense last Sunday.

#3 Jackson, on Sunday, carried the ball 11 times and nine times in the second half.

#4 Raiders quarterback Derek Carr went 16-34 for 194 yards with a touchdown, but the Ravens defense got to Carr, sacking him three times.

#5 The Raiders, this Sunday, host the Kansas City Chiefs (9-2) a 1:05 pm kickoff at the Oakland Coliseum.

Stanford Cardinal podcast with Jerry Feitelberg: Cardinal aim to keep Big Game win streak going; Game resumes after postponement on Nov. 17th

#1 The long anticipated Big Game with Stanford (7-4) Cal (7-4) has finally arrived after the originally scheduled date Nov. 17th was canceled due to the Camp Fires smoke that impacted Berkeley’s air quality. This Saturday’s Big Game kicks off at 12 noon.

#2 Sophomore tight end Colby Parkinson is second in the nation with seven touchdowns amongst tight ends.

#3 The Cardinal have clinched for it’s tenth straight bowl appearance. The last time Stanford had a 10-bowl streak dating back to 1933-35 with three straight Rose Bowls and an 11-year run in 1968-78.

#4 The Cardinal have won eight consecutive Big Games as they go for their ninth Saturday.

#5 Senior wide receiver JJ Arcega-Whiteside tied a Stanford record that ranks third with 14 touchdown catches.

#1 You just can’t keep the Buffalo Sabres and the Toronto Maple Leafs down as both beat the San Jose Sharks on back-to-back nights Tuesday and Wednesday. The Sabers with a 3-2 win Tuesday and the Leafs with a two-goal 5-3 win Wednesday.

#2 The Sabers on Tuesday got some key scoring from Jeff Skinner, who has a streak for scoring the first goal to start a game in which turned out to be crucial in the win.

#3 The Sabers are now 25-17-6 while the Sharks dropped their second game of this road trip in Buffalo. On Wednesday San Jose dropped to 12-9-5 in Toronto–the loss was San Jose’s third straight.

#4 San Jose’s Joe Pavelski scored #14 and #15 in the third period on Tuesday. On Wednesday, he scored one goal #16 , but no matter Joe’s efforts, the Sharks have come up short.

#5 This long five-game road trip continues to Ottawa on Saturday and in Montreal Sunday as the Sharks will give it a go to salvage the trip with a couple of wins.
