#1 The Oakland Raiders pulled off a surprise win against the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-21. The key play of the game a quarterback Derek Carr pass to Derek Carrier for a 43-yard touchdown. The Raiders get their third win of the year.

#2 The 49ers got by the Denver Broncos, thanks to tight end George Kittle, who got an 85-yard touchdown pass to help fire up the team for a 20-14 win. The third win for SF of the season

#3 The A’s plan to shore up their pitching staff during the winter meetings. Mike Fiers was non tendered and the A’s will shop for some starting pitching during this winter.

#4 The San Francisco Giants need to stock their outfield this winter. Especially after their anchor Andrew McCutchen left for the Yankees late last season and Hunter Pence will not be back. That gives Giants GM Farhan Zaidi plenty of work to do.

#1 Joe how shocked were you that former 49er Reuben Foster was picked up by Washington just a few hours after the 49ers released him?

#2 Foster’s girlfriend Elissa Ennis said that she lied on the witness stand regarding the last assault charge by Foster and that he indeed commit domestic violence charges against her.

#3 Like 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan before her, Ennis says that she couldn’t believe Foster got picked up by Washington just a short few hours or in less than a day after he was released by San Francisco. Joe talks about what it was like for the people who knew Foster well that he got picked up so quickly.

#4 Quoting Foster’s girlfriend Ennis on lying on the witness stand, “Love will have you doing things that’s not in your best interests,” she said. ” . . . I did what I had to do for the person I love. I thought that he would change.” How disappointing was it for not only Ennis, but for the 49ers that Foster didn’t change?

#5 It’s a 1:00 pm kick off at Levi’s Stadium as the 49ers (2-10) host the Denver Broncos (6-6). Joe sets this game up.

#1 Joey, to no one’s surprise, the No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks shut down any chance for the Stanford Cardinal to get past them last Saturday in a 90-84 win at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Ks.

#2 The Hawks’ Lagerald Vick was key to the victory. Vick drilled the game-tying 3-pointer with 7 seconds remaining in regulation, then scored eight of his 27 points in overtime.

#3 Stanford’s Daejon Davis sank a pair of free throws with 13.3 seconds remaining, giving the Cardinal a 75-72 lead. Vick made the tying 3-pointer on the ensuing possession. How frustrating was it to lose in a game where Stanford was in shouting distance all night?

#4 The Jayhawks hold an 11-3 all-time series lead over Stanford. Next season, the teams complete their four-game series in December at Maples Pavilion.

#5 Next up for the Stanford Cardinal, they host Washington State on Sat. Dec. 15th and our very own Joey Friedman has your game coverage on that contest.

San Francsico 49ers preview: Niners return home, hope to end skid

SANTA CLARA–The 49ers are currently riding a three-game losing streak, and things are not looking good for their being able to put an end to it this Sunday, either.

After getting smacked around in Seattle by the Seahawks, the 49ers will make their way back to Levi’s Stadium and play host to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

While the 49ers have been out of the playoff picture for quite a while now, the Broncos have an outside chance of getting in, with a current 6-6 record.

The 49ers have some good news, however. After missing the last two weeks with assorted injuries, receiver Marquise Goodwin returned to practice in a full capacity this week and is expected to be on the field Sunday afternoon.

At the same time, though, there are a few names that remained on the injury report this week, as running back Matt Breida has not practiced this week with an ankle injury that is expected to keep him off the field come Sunday.

Meanwhile, receiver Pierre Garcon’s bad knee has kept him out of practice and will likely not play this weekend, either. Safety Jaquiski Tartt, who has been riddled with injuries during his young NFL career, also has not practiced, as he is dealing with a bad shoulder.

The Broncos are dealing with their share of injuries as well, the most significant being receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon in practice this week and will miss the rest of this season.

Former 49ers cornerback Tramaine Brock was hoping to make his return to Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, but it looks like that will not happen, as an injury to his ribs has kept him out of practice this week and is not expected to be ready to go by Sunday.

On the Sharks podcast with Mary Lisa:

#1 The San Jose Sharks won their second straight game against the Carolina Hurricanes at SAP Center on Wednesday night with a four-goal win.

#2 This was a demonstration of their healthy offense coming back as opposed to some of the four tough loses they had on their last road trip.

#3 The Sharks Joe Thornton and Timo Meier each had three points against the Canes and Radim Simek picked up his first career NHL goal.

#4 The Sharks goaltender Martin Jones stopped 39 out of 40 shots and faced a lot of offense from the Canes, but stood on his head for the win.

#5 Up next, the Sharks are back on the road to face the Dallas Stars on Friday and Arizona on Saturday.

Jones Saves 39, Sharks Top Canes 5-1; That’s two straight wins for Sharks

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Sharks won on the road for the second-straight game, shelling the Carolina Hurricanes 5-1 at SAP Center on Wednesday night. Well, not quite. Despite the Sharks wearing the road whites and feeling the parts of weary travelers, they were actually the home team.

Joe Thornton and Timo Meier each had three points for San Jose, Martin Jones made 39 saves and Radim Simek picked up his first career NHL point in just his second game. Joe Pavelski scored his team-leading 18th goal and Meier, Marcus Sorensen, Tomas Hertl and Barclay Goodrow all scored for Team Teal. Lucas Wallmark scored the lone goal for the Canes.

The Sharks returned from a six-game road swing Sunday night, playing their first home game since November 23rd, but their bags really never had a chance to be unpacked, with San Jose off to Dallas for a Friday night contest before a trip to the Desert for a Saturday showdown with the Coyotes.

Both teams entered play 1-2 in high-danger scoring chances, so offensive fireworks were expected. The fact that they were completely one-sided came as a bit of a surprise though. Goodrow opened the scoring taking a Kevin Labanc feed and going top shelf just 3:44 into the game for his fourth goal of the year. Tomas Hertl scored a power play strike after Logan Couture’s cross-ice pass to Labanc pulled NHL journeyman Curtis McElhinney to his left. Labanc connected with Hertl just to the right of the netminder in the crease for the easy redirect and a 2-0 lead halfway through the first period. The Canes would pepper Jones with 17 shots in the frame but he stood tall to hold down the shutout after 20 minutes.

Timo Meier continued to blossom as San Jose’s best power forward since Owen Nolan, buzzing McElhinney right as Simek ripped a point shot. The naked eye gave Simek his first career goal, but by the grace of video review, Timo Meier was awarded his 14th goal. Simek had to settle for an assist for his first NHL point and a 3-0 Sharks lead 8:42 into the second. Thornton would pick up his first of three assists, notching the secondary helper on the final three San Jose goals.

Joe Pavelski scored what has to be the most fortuitous goal of his season, attempting to flip a puck on McElhinney that looked like it would be harmless. Instead the puck glanced off Jordan Staal and redirected into the Canes net for a 4-0 Sharks edge.

Carolina would finally crack Jones in the waning minute and a half of the middle stanza with Wallmark beating Jones glove side on the power play to score on the Hurricanes 26th shot of the contest. Marcus Sorensen got the goal pack after Meier threaded a pack hand pass that allowed the Swede to rip a shot past McElhinney with just 4:17 left in regulation.

San Jose has now collected a point in three-straight home games and is on a two-game win streak after a five-game skid. They’re off to the Big D for a showdown with Tyler Seguin and the Stars next.
