#1 Daniel, the Tropicana was founded in 1957 and was imploded Wednesday Oct 9th. The Tropicana was one of the longest standing hotel casinos in Las Vegas strip history. The now demolished lot will be designated for a new Las Vegas A’s ball park on nine acres and the rest of the property will used for building hotel towers and casinos.

#2 For preparation of the implosion of the two Tropicana towers that once housed tourists, dignitaries, guests, and those who stayed at the Tropicana just to roll the dice the public was kept away for safety reasons.

#3 The implosion lasted only 22 second and was livestreamed that included 555 drones and a fireworks show. The resort had closed on April 2nd just as the 2024 baseball season and what would be the A’s last and final season in Oakland.

#4 A statement from A’s owner John Fisher: “The demolition of the Tropicana is an important milestone in the process of bringing A’s baseball to the world-renowned Las Vegas Strip and the community of Southern Nevada,” said Fisher in a Baily’s news release right after the implosion. “We hope that, in time, this site will become a place of unforgettable experiences for fans of the game.” Some still doubt that Fisher can get his share of the construction costs and that the A’s will ever move to Las Vegas.

#5 It’s the first time a casino has been imploded since the Riviera was imploded to make room for the construction of the Las Vegas convention center. Only the Sahara remains standing as the last of the hotel and casinos built in the 1950s.

#1 The Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2) put up the Steel Curtain against the Las Vegas Raiders (2-4) offense and sank the Good Ship Las Vegas 32-13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas Sunday.

#2 The Steelers in first half action saw kicker Chris Boswell kick two field goals one a 52 yarder in the first quarter and a 49 yarder in the second quarter. The Steelers quarterback Justin Fields carried for a three yard touchdown and Pittsburgh came away with a 12-7 first half lead.

#3 The Raiders had problems stopping Najee Harris who rushed for 106 yards. It was the first time in Harris’ career he surpassed 100 yards.

#4 The Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell didn’t fare very well throwing 27-40, 277 yards, one touchdown. The Raiders would only get a touchdown in the first quarter and fourth quarters but it wasn’t enough.

#5 Raiders are off to the Southland and the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are having their own struggles dropping to 1-4 in their last game on Sun Oct 6 to the Green Bay Packers 24-19 at So Fi Stadium. Raiders come in as the visiting team and Rams looking for a win as well how do you see this match up next Sunday.

Kings Preseason Struggles Highlighted In Loss 105-85

SACRAMENTO–The Sacramento Kings hosted the Portland Trail Blazers in the third Preseason game Sunday at the Golden One Center losing 105-85. The Kings are still working on the new starting rotation with the new addition Demar DeRozan and Keon Ellis filling in for an injured Kevin Huerter and it showed as they had 26 turnovers.

Kings turnovers and the Trail Blazers three point shooting put the Kings in a very deep hole as Portland Took a seven point lead into the half. Portland out scored the Kings 35-24 in the second quarter behind great play from Scoot Henderson who finished with 17 points in only 25 minutes of play.

DeRozan who the Kings brought in to to help them get past the first round of the playoffs is still finding his footing with his new teammates and new head coach Mike Brown. General Manager Monte McNair brought DeRozan in fill a need of veteran leadership and the steady hand of Experience.

DeRozan only scored eight points on 4 for 10 shooting. His teammates did not fair much better De”Aaron Fox only had 11 points himself to show for his 28 minutes worth of playing time. Domantas Sabonis is working on adding a three point shot into his offensive repertoire but was only zero for three from past the three point line.

Brown is still working on this line up and hopefully it will perform better by the season opener than they did Sunday. The Kings travel to Los Angeles to play the Clippers for their final preseason game on October 17th. They open with season a week later by hosting the Timberwolves a week later on the 24th.

#3 You’ve had the opportunity to work with Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt who was a former Oakland A’s catcher how surprising or not surprising is it that he is on his way to winning the AL Manager of the Year Award for this year.

#4 Talk about how impressive it was for the Guardians to come back down 1-2 and win two straight to win the ALDS and advance.

#5 Charlie talk about the amazing come back by the Los Angeles Dodgers who were down 1-2 in the series with the San Diego Padres came back in games 4 and 5 to win it. The Padres came out like gang busters but the Dodgers whose been there before show that good teams can make the come back.

6. Charlie the Tropicana in Tampa Bay has severe roof damage from Hurricanes Heline and Milton. The Rays are on the hook to pay for the repairs and not their insurer. From what you see do the Rays fix the dome or they will have look to play elsewhere until either the Trop is fixed or when their new ballpark is ready and does that mean another big league club playing in a minor league park?

Los Tiburones Loss Second Game of The Season as Los Patos gets 2-0 shutout at SAP Center in San Jose

Los Tiburones lost the second game of the season against Los Patos this Saturday night

SAN JOSE–San Jose was back in action for the second home game of the season before heading to a series of games on the road. On opening night Thursday, the Sharks demonstrated the potential of how this Sharks team would be fighting throughout the season.

Still, things fell short when St. Louis dominated in the third period, taking this game to OT and eventually winning. On Saturday night not much improvement as the Sharks got shutout by the Anaheim Ducks 2-0 at SAP Center.

Saturday night, The Sharks celebrated Latino Heritage Night, which intended to pay homage to the Latin American community in the East Bay. This is a night where the team highlights Latin American cuisine, music, attire, and much more.

Game Day began with bad news as Macklin Celebrini was placed on injury reserve after relapsing from the injury he suffered playing vs. Utah. The team had to find a way to fix things out to try to avoid the second loss of the season.

This game ended with a score of 2- 0 with goals by Isac Lundestrom and Anaheim’s star Trevor Zegras, both in the 3rd period.

The game seemed to have some hope as Sharks forward Fabian Zetterlund’s power-play goal early in the first period was overturned following a coach’s challenge after officials ruled an offside. Therefore, the score was kept 0 – 0

After that goal, both teams were scoreless for most of the entirety of the game and even seemed to head to overtime scoreless

The game during the first two periods happened without much to be said until, in the middle of the third period, Brock McGinn and Brett Leason assisted Lundestrom with a wrist shot, making the first of the night for Anaheim.

The Sharks tried to equalize. However, Anaheim could keep up the lead and even add another one to the scoreboard as Trevor Zegras, with a wrist shot empty-netter, sealed the 2-0 win for the Sharks with just a minute and 35 left to play.

Again, the same story repeated for the Sharks, the visitors managed to score in the very last minute of the game.

With this result, San Jose has gone winless and goes on the road to play three games starting in Dallas Tuesday, Chicago Thursday, and Edmonton Friday. In the standings, they are in seventh place, just a position above the Stanley Cup Finalist, Edmonton Oilers.

San Jose returns to home ice on Sunday, Oct 20, against Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche.

KC Current’s Chawinga finds back of net with match’s only score in 1-0 shutout over Bay FC

SAN JOSE–Bay FC hosted the Kansas City Current in a game that will be crucial to their playoff fight. Kansas City’s lineup had a name that will be very familiar for Bay FC fans, as Kayla Sharples returned to PayPal Park for the first time since being traded. The NWSL’s most dangerous goal-scorer, Temwa Chawinga was also in the building and she was undoubtedly going to make it a difficult night for Bay.

Bay FC Starting XI: Rowland, Malonson, Menges, Dahlkemper, Dydasco, Pickett, Bailey, Hill, Castellanos, Hocking, Oshoala Current Starting XI: Schult, Wheeler, Sharples, Cook, Mace, Hutton, Labonta, Chawinga, Debinha, Cooper, Prince

Sharples came up big for Kansas City in the opening minutes, preventing the Bay FC attack from creating strong scoring chances. Deyna Castellanos had a corner kick in the fifth minute that would’ve easily ended up in the back of the net if anyone was able to get a foot on it, but a Kansas City defender deflected it for another corner. On the following corner, Bay FC once again got a strong chance off of the set piece but none other than Sharples would make a goal-line clear to keep it scoreless.

After some strong scoring chances at both ends, the game was still tied 0-0 at the half-hour mark. Penelope Hocking was shown a yellow card in the 34th minute. Moments later, Chawinga broke the tie making it 1-0 in favor of the visitors with a cannon of a shot from outside of the box.

Chawinga’s 19th of the season became the new NWSL record for goals in a single season, breaking the previous record which belonged to Sam Kerr. Asisat Oshoala was then shown a yellow card in the 36th minute. In the 42nd minute, Hailie Mace was shown a yellow card.

Eventually, it was reviewed for a potential red card, as it could be considered the denial of a goal-scoring opportunity. For the second time of the night though, the review didn’t go Bay FC’s way. Earlier in the game, there had been a review for a potential handball inside of the box. At the end of the half, Kansas City led 1-0.

The second half had quite a bit of back-and-forth action. Early in the half, there was another play that Bay FC thought was a handball inside of the box, but this time the video assistant referee didn’t call for a review by referee Danielle Chesky.

The first substitutions of the match, which included Savy King entering for Castellanos, came in the 71st minute while there was a delay for Bay FC goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland. In the 87th minute, Caroline Conti would enter the match for Dorian Bailey.

The second half was much less eventful than the first, as both teams were struggling to generate consistent offensive chances. Eventually, Bay FC ran out of time and were unable to get themselves on the scoresheet as Kansas City recorded a 1-0, shutout victory over the hosting side.

With Racing Louisville closely trailing them in the standings, Bay FC couldn’t afford to drop points against the Current but unfortunately, they walked away with nothing. With only two games remaining for Bay, the end of their season will be an intense push for the playoffs.

Moving forward, every point is massively significant as they’re going to need to win out if they’re going to make it. More so, it’s not entirely in their own hands either. If Louisville is able to defeat the Washington Spirit on Sunday, it will essentially put the fate of both teams’ season in their hands.

No. 11 Fighting Irish hammer Cardinal 49-7; Game delayed an hour by lightning

Notre Dame scored 49 unanswered points Saturday, as the No. 11-ranked Fighting Irish rolled past Stanford 49-7 in non-conference football before 77,622 at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Ind.

Play was interrupted at the start of the fourth quarter as inclement weather with lightning passed through the area. The game was held up for one hour before resuming at 7:10 p.m. local time.

Notre Dame gained 477 yards in total offense, while the Cardinal gained 200. The Fighting Irish had the edge in first downs 24-14 and converted three fourth down plays and converted 6 of 11 third downs.

The Cardinal (2-5 overall, 1-2 ACC) scored first when Justin Lamson ran in front of one yard out. After Emmet Kenney added the extra point at 6:49 of the first quarter, it was all Notre Dame.

Riley Leonard’s 6-yard touchdown run out of the shotgun with 1:27 to play in the opening quarter tied the game at 7-7. The Irish (5-1 overall) went ahead to stay when Leonard completed a 15-yard scoring pass to Jayden Thomas at 7:46 of the second quarter.

With 1:11 to play in the first half, Leonard’s 5-yard TD pass to Kris Mitchell gave Notre Dame a 21-7 lead at the break.

The second half started with an ominous tone for the Cardinal when Tiger Bachmeier bobbled the kickoff at his own 3-yard-line. Three minutes later, Jadarian Price ran 16 yards for a Notre Dame touchdown.

Jeremiyah Love ran 39 yards up the middle for the next Irish touchdown at 6:49 of the third quarter. Five minutes and 20 seconds later, Notre Dame extended its lead to 42-7 on a 5-yard TD pass from Leonard to Eli Raridon.

The Fighting Irish wrapped up the scoring with a 19-yard touchdown run by Aneyas Williams at 9:17 of the fourth quarter.

Leonard completed 16 of 22 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions. Love rushed for 52 yards on six carries, and Price gained 49 yards on 12 carries. Mitchell and Beaux Collins each caught four passes.

Daniels threw for 74 yards on 8 of 13 passing but was sacked three times. Daniels also ran for 42 yards on 14 attempts. Chris Davis Jr, led the Cardinal ballcarriers with 45 rushing yards on 10 carries. Elic Ayomanor caught three passes for 16 yards.

Next week, the Cardinal return to Atlantic Coast Conference play when they return home to host Southern Methodist. Kickoff is at 5 p.m. Pacific.

#1 Mary Lisa, NHL number one draft choice and San Jose Sharks Macklin Celebrini scored the first goal of the home opener against the St Louis Blues on Thursday night at SAP Center. Celebrini also assisted Tyler Toffoli later with a goal. What a debut for Celebrini.

#2 The Sharks did start the game off with Celebrini’s goal at 7:01 and Toffoli’s goal later at 17:14 ending the first period with a 2-1 Sharks lead.

#3 In the second period the Sharks looked like they might just runaway with this opening night thriller getting two unanswered goals from Fabian Zetterlund at 8:26 and Barclay Goodrow at 17:37 and the Sharks took a three goal 4-1 lead.

#4 In the third period the Blues went to work playing catch up scoring three unanswered goals to tie it up from Radek Faksa at 2:54, Ryan Sutter at 6:11, and Justin Faulk at 19:13.The Blues would get the game winner in overtime Brayden Schenn scored 45 seconds into the overtime stanza. At what point did it feel like this one was going to slip away from San Jose.

#5 The Sharks host the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday for the Ducks season opener. After the loss to the Blues on Thursday how motivated do you see the Sharks to get after this game with the Ducks at SAP Center?

NHL podcast with Len Shapiro: Stamkos hits post just missing game winner in debut for Preds; NJ coach Keefe loses to former team Leafs; plus more NHL news

#1 Former Tampa Bay Lightning and current Nashville Predator Steven Stamkos with 15 seconds left in their opener against Dallas Stars took a shot that hit the post and the Preds lost in Stamkos’ debut 4-3. It was not the kind of ending he wanted but he said he was excited about joining his new team in Nashville.

#2 Former Toronto Maple Leafs and current New Jersey Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe lost against his former team the Leafs 4-2 on Thursday night. Keefe was looking for sweet revenge against the Leafs but the Leafs delivered on offense scoring three times in the first period pretty much putting the game out of reach.

#3 The Utah Hockey Club is off and running the former Arizona hockey team turned Utah in their first year of existence picked up another victory this time on Thursday in Elmont New York against the New York Islanders in a close one 5-4. Showing that Utah could be a competitive team this season down 4-3 in third period, they got a goal from Josh Doan at 18:06 to tie it 4-4 and an overtime goal from Dylan Guenther for the win at 2:18.

#4 Tough break for Boone Jenner of the Columbus Blue Jackets who was injured in practice on Oct 4th and had to have shoulder surgery last Wednesday. Jenner’s prognosis is that he could miss the rest of the 24-25 season. Jackets general manager David Waddell said “These things are probably 5-6 months,” Waddell added “Every individual is different. Five months puts you right at the beginning of March. Just see how it all plays out here in the next few months.

#5 The last surviving member of the 1956-60 Montreal Canadiens Stanley Cup winning teams Don Marshall has passed away at age 92. There were 12 players who were part of that five consecutive championship teams. Marshall amongst them a native Montrealer played 585 games for the Habs between 1951-63 with 254 points, 114 goals, and 140 assists. Marshall later did some broadcast with Montreal broadcasters Danny Gallivan and Dick Irvin Jr as an analyst.

#1 Well Amaury, the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled it off with a 2-0 shoutout over the San Diego Padres on Friday night to advance to the next round of the playoffs winning game 5 and the series 3-2. Dodgers starter Yoshi Yamamoto was effective for five inning of work allowing just five hits and two strikeouts.

#2 The Dodgers face off against the New York Mets at Dodger Stadium for a 5:15pm PT on Sunday night start in game 1 of the NLCS. Starting pitcher for the Mets Kodai Senga (0-0 ERA 4.50) for the Dodgers Jack Flaherty (0-1, 6.75). The Mets took out the Philadelphia Phillies three games to four last Wednesday.

#3 Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt might win AL Manager of the Year just yet. Down 1-2 in the ALDS against the Detroit Tigers the Guardians came back to win game four 5-4 on Thursday to tie the series 2-2 and won game five 7-3 on Saturday to advance to the ALCS.

#4 The Guardians Lane Thomas had a big day with a grand slam home run and five RBIs. The Tigers starter Tarik Skubal got lit up by Thomas and ended up with a line of six plus innings, allowing six hits and five runs. Skubal had been a top contender for the AL Cy Young Award.

#5 The Guardians now face the New York Yankees in the ALCS for game 1 in the Bronx. These two teams have met over their history six times in October. They last met playing five games in the ALDS in 2022 with the Yankees winning the series.
