#1 It was a tough, tough loss for the Stanford Cardinal (19-11) who got edged by a very competitive and competent Notre Dame Fighting Irish club (13-17) 56-54 at the Purcell Center at Notre Dame.

#2 Stanford’s Maxime Raynaud led with 20 points and every one of those points made the difference in a tight game like this despite the two point loss.

#3 Stanford Jaylen Blakes followed up Raynaud in scoring with 13 points he’s had a great season and has been key for some of the Cardinal wins this season.

#4 Stanford’s Benny Gealer was third in scoring with 11 points and was valuable when you consider the Stanford nearly came back to win the game and getting outscored by the Irish in the second half 35-30.

#5 The Cardinal next up face the Louisville Cardinals in Kentucky this Sat Mar 8th for a 11:00AM PDT. Louisville are third in the ACC at 24-6. 13-3 at home and have won eight in a row. The Cardinal are seventh and are struggling on the road at 3-7.

NBA G League: Warriors Stampeded by Herd 116-98 inside KPA Wednesday Night near Boardwalk; Santa Cruz on 4-game losing streak.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — The Santa Cruz Warriors (12-11) lost their fourth straight game, after a 116-98 loss to the Wisconsin Herd (12-13) on a cool evening in Surf City.

The Warriors got on the board first with a floating jumper by Seth Maxwell. The Herd tied it at two, then went on an 11-0 run to produce their largest lead. The Herd made a charge and cut the deficit to two. However, Santa Cruz was able to move the Herd back, and stay in front after 12 minutes of game action.

After one quarter, the home squad held a five-point advantage, 28-23. Braxton Key led the Warriors with ten points and five rebounds, while Henry Ellenson not only led the Herd in scoring (13) after one stanza, he led both teams, in addition to his five rebounds.

The second quarter had the Warriors double their lead and control most of the period. As the Herd did in the first quarter, they stampede around the two-minute mark of the second block. They tied the game at 43 at seconds over two minutes. Then they took their first lead (46-45) of the contest at 1:49 on a made free throw.

The Warriors overcame their four point deficit, and managed to be tied at recess, 49-49. Key led SCW with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Ellenson topped the Herd, also with 21 points and seven rebounds.

The third period had the Warriors get out to a four points lead, but midway through the quarter Wisconsin retook the lead and increased it to ten by the end of 36 regulation minutes. The Herd led 90-80 after three competitive quarters. There were three lead changes and nine ties during that time frame. Wisconsin seemed to be in prime position to totally take over the game at that particular point.

In the final quadrant, the Herd actually increased their lead to as many as 18 points. That also was the margin after 48 minutes, 116-98. Four straight losses for the Warriors, with an immediate revenge opportunity less than 48 hours later. The KPA faithful missed out on ice cream, because the Warriors failed to eclipse triple digits.

Key led the Warriors with 30 points and 13 rebounds, while Javan Johnson added 22 points and Blake Hinson chipped in 17 points, with 5 rebounds.

Three Herd hoopers tallied 28 points: Ellenson also gathered 18 rebounds; Thompson grabbed 10 rebounds and James Akinjo delivered 6 assists. One other player made the double-figures plateau, Justise Winslow scored 14 points and snatched five rebounds.

The two combatants will play Game 2 of this miniseries on Friday, March 7 at 7:00 PM PT inside of the friendly confines of Kaiser Permanente Arena

#1 Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry led with 28 points and nine assists and ran his personal record against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden to 12-1 in the Warriors 114-102 win on Tuesday night.

#2 The Warriors Jimmy Butler and Bradin Podziemski each had 19 points and the Warriors are now 3-1 on this current five game road trip. The Warriors are now 12-2 in their last 14 games when playing at Madison Square Garden.

#3 Next up for Golden State they tip off against the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn on Thu Mar 13 for a 4:00pm PST tip. The Nets are a struggling bunch who have lost five in a row and are in 11th place in the Eastern Conference at 21-40.

NEW YORK, NY. — The Golden State Warriors beat the New York Knicks 114-102 on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden led by Stephan Curry, who notched his 10th consecutive victory and a 12-1 record at the historic venue.

Curry, who returned to the floor despite right ankle soreness, finished with 28 points and nine assists in 33 minutes.

Golden State’s shots were not going in for much of the first half, but they fought for possessions and Warriors head coach Steve Kerr credited the win in large part to Jimmy Butler.

Butler scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half. The Warriors are 9-1 in 10 games that Butler has played with them.

“I give him and all of our guys a lot of credit because they’re finding a new identity and it’s fun to watch them find it,’ said Kerr.

The Warriors and Knicks were even throughout the first quarter, with the Knicks finishing ahead 26-25.

The defining moment of the game was when Curry and the Knicks’ Jalen Brunson re-entered the game with 6:33 left to go and Golden State went on a 11-0 run in four minutes, to boost their lead up to 105-93 with 2:30 left in the game.

Brandin Podziemski also scored 19 points and Draymond Green had eight points, nine rebounds and eight assists on the day he turned 35.

“The energy and camaraderie I think is essential, I would say it looks different because we’re winning a lot more,” said Podziemski. “Jimmy is a different player than what we had and so he just adds a different element to our group that we didn’t have.”

Golden State (34-28) won their second straight game after beating the Charlotte Hornets on Monday, and snapped the Knicks’ (40-21) three-game winning streak.The Warriors are 3-1 in their five-game trip and have won 12 of their last 14 games at the Garden.

Curry relished in the moment of his new milestone at MSG.

“It’s Madison Square Garden, it speaks for itself. This is a place that naturally has great, unique basketball energy and like the fans are unreal like the who’s who’s celebrity row all that, but just everybody’s anticipating great basketball and from my first game here in college to now like it’s always delivered,” he said.

“So for us in the Western Conference we only get once chance here, so we try to make the most of it.”

The Warriors continue their road trip on Thursday facing the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center. Tip-off is at 4:30 p.m. PT.

NBA G League action: Kings avoid Suns 4th quarter onslaught with 136-127 win

STOCKTON–The Stockton Kings were back at home on Tuesday night as they once again hosted the Valley Suns in a Western Conference matchup.

The Kings were down another top player, as one of their stars this season, Skal Labissiere signed a 10-day contract with the Sacramento Kings earlier this week and is back in the NBA for the time being.

Mason Jones stepped up in Labissiere’s absence though, and had an incredible night. The Kings’ shooting guard went 15-23 from the field, including 10-14 from beyond the arc. His 49 points led both the Kings and the Suns, and were a major part of the reason that Stockton walked away with a 136-127 victory.

A high-scoring first quarter saw the Kings get out to a narrow, early lead. After 12 minutes, Stockton was ahead of the Suns by a single point, 36-35. It was in the second quarter when the Kings were able to start pulling away though. They dominated offensively, dropping 42 points while only allowing their opposition to score 27. Heading into halftime, Stockton had a 16-point lead, 78-62.

The Suns cut the lead down very slightly in the third quarter, but offensive production was starting to slow down on both ends of the court. The Kings maintained their lead heading into the final frame, as they led 114-104. Despite the Kings holding the lead for most of the night, it could realistically go either way in the last quarter of the night.

The Suns outscored the Kings once again in the fourth quarter, but it was only by a single point. As a result, Stockton was able to walk away victorious once again with a final score of 136-127.

The aforementioned Jones was undoubtedly Stockton’s biggest standout on the night, however Dexter Dennis and Terry Taylor both had great nights offensively as well. Both of them eclipsed the 20 point mark and helped make a major difference for the Kings over the course of the night.

Meanwhile for the Suns, TyTy Washington, David Stockton and Jaden Shackleford all passed the 20 point threshold. Washington led the way with 24 points in the losing effort.

The Kings will be back at home on Saturday as they host the San Diego Clippers in another battle of two California teams. With the season nearing its end, every game will make a difference for Stockton’s playoff seeding.

#1 Sacramento Kings Zach LaVine scored 22 points and DeMar DeRozan followed up with 20 points. LaVine and DeRozan sat out in the fourth quarter in the Kings win over the Dallas Mavericks 122-98. It was the Kings fifth straight win.

#2 Tough break for the Mavericks Kyrie Irving was lost in the latter part of the first quarter due to a left knee sprain. How much did that impact the Mavericks loss physically and mentally.

#3 The Kings have caught fire winning winning four straight after the win against the Mavericks and have won four of their last five games. Looks like head coach Doug Christie has the team turned around again.

#4 What is impressive is that the Kings have this win streak going and handled themselves well without Domantas Sabonis whose been dominate in the triple doubles category. Sabonis who injured himself in the first minute of the Kings game in Houston last Saturday.

#5 Kings are in Denver on Wednesday night for a 6:00pm PT tip. The Nuggets are third in the Western Conference at 39-22. The Nuggets have won seven of their last ten games and have the home floor advantage. The Kings with their fourth win in a row are eighth in the Conference and are a half game back of the sixth place Golden State Warriors. How do you see this match up Wednesday night in Denver?

#1 The New York Yankees injuries are starting to adding up Giancarlo Stanton (elbows), DJ LeMahieu (calf injury) and now pitcher Luis Gil a starting pitcher has been diagnosed with a high grade lat strain in his right shoulder. With these injuries it’s got to have manager Aaron Boone concerned this early in spring training.

#2 The Houston Astros Jose Altuve is expected to play in left field this season. Altuve is an All Star and a three time MVP and has played second base in 1767 games. A gold glove winner in 2015 and 2020. The idea of putting Altuve in left was brought up when Alex Bregman was with the team but signed with the Boston Red Sox. The Astros will use Isaac Paredes at second base and play Altuve in left.

#3 Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy will miss the beginning of the start of the season due to a rib injury. Murphy is an All Star and Gold Glove winner and the Braves announced that he will be on the Injured List for four to six week with a cracked rib on his left side. A big name out of the line up.

#4 The big news this week is Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred is considering lifting the lifetime ban against Pete Rose who has been banned from baseball since 1989 for betting on baseball. If reinstated will that also open the door for Joe Jackson who was accused of being in on the fix during the 1919 World Series. Jackson has the numbers to be a Hall of Famer.

#5 The Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles are finished with their litigation over TV rights that dates back to 2012 when MLB announced Monday the Nats will be freed up from their deal with Mid-Atlantic Sports Network after the 2025 season.

#1 Marko if you like lots of scoring Sunday’s Henderson Silver Knights and San Jose Barracuda game was your kind of game ending with a 6-5 Barracuda win in overtime at Tech CU in San Jose.

#2 Scoring in the first period the Barracuda scored the first two goals with Lucas Carlsson and Andrew Poturalski the Knights Alexander Holtz scored making it 2-1 Cuda after the first period.

#3 The Barracuda Danil Gushchin scored San Jose’s only goal in the second period. The Knights answered back with two goals from Holtz with his second and third goals of the game for a 3-3 tie after two periods.

#4 The third period you can’t keep a good man down Holtz scored his four goal of the game to start the period Henderson taking the lead 4-3. The Knights Kai Uchacz scored an insurance goal putting the Knights up 5-3. The Barracuda would rally with three unanswered goals to win it 6-3. Gushchin Scored two goals in the third period to force overtime at 5-5. In overtime the Barracuda Ethan Cardwell scored the game winner.

#5 Next up for San Jose the San Diego Gulls at Tech CU on Wednesday night a 7:00pm PT face off. The Gulls are ninth in the Pacific Division winning seven of their last ten games. The Barracuda have won four of their last ten games and are fifth in the Pacific Division. How do you see this match up on Wednesday?

#1 On Saturday night the Sacramento Kings DeMar DeRozan scored 21 points and considering Domantas Sabonis didn’t play against the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center in Houston the the Kings won it 113-103.

#2 The Kings Zach LaVine scored 20 points and the the Kings had a 13-3 run that gave them a 97-85 lead with just ten minutes left in the game. LaVine and Keon Ellis each hit a three pointer and DeRozan got five points in those last few minutes.

#3 For the Rockets Alperen Sengun led with 30 points and ten rebounds. Jalen Green scored 24 points in the Houston effort but it wasn’t enough as the Rockets snapped their two game win streak.

#4 Sabonis came into Saturday’s game with a 19.9 points scoring average and 14.4 rebounds but suffered a hamstring injury and didn’t come back into the game. Sabonis’ injury came when he was running down the floor and pulled up holding his left hamstring.

#5 The Kings are in ninth place in the NBA Western Conference and have won three straight games. They next play in Dallas against the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks are in tenth the Western Conference and have won six of their last ten games. How do you see this match up tonight?

It was in 2004 when Pete Rose admitted to betting on baseball as a player. It has been 21 years since his admission and since then sports betting has taken place in any sport, including, football, basketball and baseball, from collegiate sports to professional sports sports books are regulated all over the country by state governments.

Legal sports gambling is more widespread than ever. Missouri voters in November became the latest to approve it, making it legal in 39 states and the District of Columbia. Last year, Americans bet more than $121 billion on sports, according to the American Gaming Association. The $121 Billion posted for sports bets in the United States by Americans is more than the GDP(Gross Domestic Product) in other words, the economies of these countries: Ecuador, Sudan, Kenya, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Jordan, Angola, Croatia, El Salvador, Cambodia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Panamá, Ghana and dozens more all around the world.

The last time baseball topped the list as America’s favorite sport for fans to watch was in 1960, since 1972 football took the top list and has remained on top, all you have to do is look at the #1 TV event in the US, NFL The Superbowl with a record $1.4 Billion placed in bets this year. Following Football, Baseball, Basketball, Ice Hockey and Soccer the most popular leagues in the country and where the majority of the bets are going.

Let’s stop the hypocrisy, everybody knows that Pete Rose is worthy of the Hall of Fame, the last person to walk on water is documented in the most popular book ever, the Bible, the best selling book of all time with over 5 billion books sold and distributed. As far back as 4,000 to 3,000 BC ancient Egyptians bet on dice and board games, including chariot racing. Betting on sports took place during the ancient Olympic Games, around 800 to 700 BC. Yes, before the Designated Hitter took effect in baseball.

It is good news that the Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred is considering removing Pete Rose from the ineligible list. That is a good first step to have Pete Rose where he belong and for the good of baseball, in Cooperstown. I think this is just common sense.
