On the 49ers podcast with Joe:

#1 Joe, the 49ers have worked hard for their victories in their last two games both home games against Denver and Seattle. Taking the Denver game first, George Kittle’s record setting first half certainly set the tone, didn’t it?

#2 Nick Mullens has been throwing for yards and touchdowns and helping keep the scoring ahead of the opponents.

#3 Against Seattle, 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman has been all things anti-Seahawks and how much of an impact has Sherman been in stopping the Seahawks last Sunday?

#4 After getting these two key victories at home at Levi’s Stadium, how much does that set the tone going into next season?

#5 This Sunday, it’s Khalil Mack and the Chicago Bears the NFC’s North Division first place team at 10-4.

49ers podcast with David Zizmor: Sherman and Mullens made the difference in the 49ers victory against Seattle

@49ers photo: San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman seen in the 49ers locker room after the 49ers three point win over Sherman’s former team the Seattle Seahawks on Sun Dec 16th at Levis Stadium in Santa Clara

On the 49ers podcast with David:

49ers cornerback Richard Sherman was thrilled to face his old teammates again the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday in a game the 49ers won by three points 26-23. The game in overtime saw the Seahawks  hit for a holding penalty and it took out the Hawks 32 yard drive and first down that ruined their comeback stopped by the Sherman and the 49ers.

49ers quarterback Nick Mullens had a busy afternoon with 20 completions in 31 attempts for 237 yards and two touchdowns in rainy weather at Levis Stadium. Kicker Robbie Gould hit a game winning field goal Mullens was not intercepted by the Seahawks defense not once.

49ers End Losing Streak to Seahawks with 26-23 OT Win

By: Joe Lami

SANTA CLARA–A rain-soaked Levi’s Stadium needed overtime on Sunday, as the 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks 26-23 for their second straight win. It ends the terrible drought and marks the first victory against Seattle since 2013, that bumps their record to 4-10.

It was a tough performance from the red and gold, just two weeks after they were embarrassed by their rival in Seattle 43-16. The revenge tastes sweet, preventing Seattle from clinching a playoff spot at home.

“It means a ton. Not all of us have been here since 2013, but all of us were here two weeks ago. We’re sick about the way we lost two weeks ago. I know I haven’t been here since 2013, but am glad I won’t have to continue to answer questions next year,” said Shanahan.

The Seahawks got on the board early with Doug Baldwin capping their first drive with his first of two touchdowns. However, Sebastian Janikowski missed the PAT in his first ever attempt at Levi’s.

On the ensuing kickoff, Richie James Jr. flashed his speed, returning the kick 97 yards to swing momentum San Francisco’s way. It was San Francisco’s first kick return for a touchdown since 2011.

When the 49ers’ went on offense, Nick Mullens was outstanding again. Throwing 20-for-29 and 275 with one 41-yard TD to Garrett Celek. He finished with a 110.6 rating, his second straight game over 100+. Mullens also set a record of the most passing yards versus a Pete Carroll Seattle squad with 689 on the year.

After his tremendous performance last week, George Kittle was held to three catches for 51 yards despite being targeted eight times. Dante Pettis led the Niners in receiving with 83 yards catching five of six targets as he continues his second-half breakout.

The passing game couldn’t have been set up without the run. Matt Breida carried it 17 times for 50 yards, only to be outdone by Jeff Wilson Jr.’s seven carries for 46 yards.

Seattle continued to lean on their run game with Chris Carson picking up 119 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Russell Wilson threw 23-for-31 for 237 yards and two touchdowns.

The win couldn’t have been done without Robbie Gould who went four-of-four on field goals, including a 36-yarder to secure the win.

The Niners are now 3-3 under Nick Mullens. The controversy should be over. Mullens has earned the backup gig next year when Garoppolo returns.

With the victory, the 49ers have now slid to the third spot in the 2018 Draft, but that won’t matter to this team breaking a 10-loss stretch to Seattle.

49ers look to build streak vs. Seahawks on Sunday

By Jeremy Harness

It has been a long and frustrating year for the 49ers, but they are finding a little bit of success toward the end of the year.

The 49ers will hope to build on their 20-14 upset win over the Denver Broncos last week and will play host to the Seattle Seahawks, a team that they have beaten only once in the past six years.

Cornerback Richard Sherman played in Seattle for the first time in an opposing uniform Dec. 2, and it didn’t go very well at all, as the Seahawks rolled to a 43-16 win. Not only did the 49ers lose the game, but there were verbal jabs exchanged in the following weeks between Sherman and some of his former teammates.

When Sherman said that the Seahawks are a “middle of the road” team at this point, defensive lineman Frank Clark took the opportunity to fire back at him, saying that “he’s not in this locker room anymore, so his opinion really doesn’t matter.”

For his part, Sherman responded by saying, “it didn’t bother me at all.”

In the meantime, the 49ers are dealing with some more injury issues. The team placed receiver Pierre Garcon on season-ending injured reserve with a painful knee injury that he has been dealing with for much of this season.

Fellow receivers Dante Pettis and Marquise Goodwin have been limited in practice this week with assorted injuries, while safety Jaquiski Tartt’s shoulder continues to give him problems, as he has not practiced this week after also missing last Sunday’s win over Denver.

For the Seahawks, Clark has an elbow injury that has kept him out of practice this week, while offensive lineman D.J Fluker also has not been able to practice while dealing with a hamstring issue.

msn.com file photo: 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan in file photo from Nov. 1st game versus the Oakland Raiders at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara

On the 49ers podcast with Joe Lami:

#1 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said the clock flub at the end of Sunday’s game had quarterback Nick Mullens not taking a knee, but instead the ball was a turnover to the Denver Broncos. Lucky for San Francisco on the last play of the game, the Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick lateraled and the ball rolled out of bounds midfield, which helped SF win and run the clock out.

#2 Shanahan who was fined by the NFL $25,000 for yelling an obscenity at an official and drew an unsportsmanship-like conduct back on Dec. 2 in Seattle. Shanahan said he would appeal a play that he felt should have stopped the clock after 49ers linebacker Fred Warner had lost his shoe and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson threw it off the field Shanahan said the officials should have stopped the clock and that Warner should have been allowed to get his shoe back, but promised he wouldn’t swear at the officials again.

#3 San Francisco’s George Kittle had a career day in the first half last Sunday against the Broncos with 210 yards, seven catches, with a 85-yard touchdown.

#4 Mullens had a good offensive afternoon 22-33 for 332 yards. Mullens finished with a 102.1 passer rating.

#5 The Seattle Seahawks, who streamrolled the 49ers in Seattle on Dec. 2, will be at Levi’s Stadium this Sunday. Joe tells what the 49ers’ chances are this Sunday.

San Francsico 49ers preview: Niners return home, hope to end skid

@49ers photo: San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis adjusts his gloves during game against the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday at Century Link Field

By Jeremy Harness

SANTA CLARA–The 49ers are currently riding a three-game losing streak, and things are not looking good for their being able to put an end to it this Sunday, either.

After getting smacked around in Seattle by the Seahawks, the 49ers will make their way back to Levi’s Stadium and play host to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

While the 49ers have been out of the playoff picture for quite a while now, the Broncos have an outside chance of getting in, with a current 6-6 record.

The 49ers have some good news, however. After missing the last two weeks with assorted injuries, receiver Marquise Goodwin returned to practice in a full capacity this week and is expected to be on the field Sunday afternoon.

At the same time, though, there are a few names that remained on the injury report this week, as running back Matt Breida has not practiced this week with an ankle injury that is expected to keep him off the field come Sunday.

Meanwhile, receiver Pierre Garcon’s bad knee has kept him out of practice and will likely not play this weekend, either. Safety Jaquiski Tartt, who has been riddled with injuries during his young NFL career, also has not practiced, as he is dealing with a bad shoulder.

The Broncos are dealing with their share of injuries as well, the most significant being receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon in practice this week and will miss the rest of this season.

Former 49ers cornerback Tramaine Brock was hoping to make his return to Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, but it looks like that will not happen, as an injury to his ribs has kept him out of practice this week and is not expected to be ready to go by Sunday.

Seahawks Move into Playoff Spot with 43-16 Win Over 49ers

By: Joe Lami

Make it seven straight years since the 49ers have won in Seattle, as they were annihilated on Sunday 43-16. Nick Mullens threw 30 completions for 414 yards, two touchdowns, and a pick in the loss. Even with many of his yards coming in garbage time, he looked decent in the second half minus a 98-yard pick-six to Bobby Wagner.

The 49ers were abysmal in the first half and avoided a shutout thanks to a Robbie Gould 45-yard field goal to make it 20-3. Things didn’t get too much better in the second for San Francisco, as they were torched in every facet of the game.

Seattle opened the second half with an 84-yard return from Tyler Lockett that ended a chance of a comeback. Rashaad Penny found paydirt on the very next play from 20 yards out for his only touchdown of the day. He finished with 65 yards on 13 carries while Chris Carson ran for 69 yards. Seattle ran for 168 yards on the contest.

Russell Wilson was his usual self, throwing 11 of 18 for 185 yards and four touchdowns.

Dante Pettis was the best player in red and gold. Contributing to the 49ers’ only two touchdowns, he also caught for 169 yards, becoming the first rookie since 1969 in franchise to catch two touchdowns and 100 receiving yards in a game.

Terrell Owens was the last rookie to catch for 100 yards for the 49ers when he did it in 1999.

Stone Cold Geroge Kittle continues to explode onto the scene, catching six balls for 70 yards.

Rookie running back, Jeff Wilson Jr. continues to excel out of the bye week. He showed even more on Sunday with 134 combined yards and proved to be a great check down for Mullens. Though, his fumble counted towards the three turnovers San Francisco committed.

Seattle used those turnovers to start in great field position, averaging at their own 33. San Francisco’s defense failed to slow down the Seahawks and once again went without a takeaway.

Richard Sherman wasn’t a factor in his return to Seattle, not showing on the stat sheet following the game.

The lone bright spot on defense was once against DeForest Buckner, picking up two of the 49ers’ three sacks. Donald Blair gained the other one on a 16-yard mistake by Wilson.

The Seahawks have now won three-straight games (7-5) and climbed into a Wild Card spot with the victory.

The offense didn’t quit in the second half, scoring two touchdowns with the Pettis’ emergence appearing, but for the second straight week were embarrassed. Kyle Shanahan was blowing leads earlier in the year, but now he can’t even get a lead with maybe one winnable game remaining on the year next week against Denver.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Lami: 49ers get ready for a noisy time in Seattle

On the San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe:

#1 San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is so concerned about the noise level that they had to deal with at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay last Sunday. He plans to ask the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to have the very loud PA announcer to keep the volume down.

#2 Shanahan is quite familiar with the noise level at upcoming CenturyLink Field this coming Sunday-a place better know for the fans as the 12th man.

#3 The Seattle Seahawks have won seven straight home games, making the 49ers visit to Century Link tough enough in spite of dealing with the loud crowd.

#4 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens quarterback rating has taken a dive since his debut against the Raiders (151.9) against the New York Giants (73.3), and then it fell against Tampa Bay (62.1).

#5 The Reuben Foster signing by Washington took many by surprise and only two days after he was let go by the 49ers. Washington’s head coach Jay Gruden said the team will address the community saying the team will address the outcry and they’ll try and find out exactly what happened.

Raiders Three-Point Stance: Three takeaways from Raiders’ ugly 27-3 loss to the Seahawks in London

By Joe Hawkes-Beamon
SRS Contributor

Russell Wilson threw three touchdowns and the Seahawks held a depleted Raiders team to just 185 yards of total offense in Seattle’s 27-3 victory on Sunday in front of announced London-record crowd of 84,922 at Wembley Stadium, many being pro-Seahawks as Seattle’s “12th Man” traveled across ‘The Pond’ cheering on their team — even though the Raiders were designated as the home team.

Now at 1-5 and heading into the a much needed bye week, its clear that the Raiders have plenty of work to do.

Check out my three takeways from the Silver and Black’s ugly loss to the Seahawks (3-3) in Week 6:

Oakland’s offense was held together with gum and duct tape
With injuries along the offensive line with guard John Feliciano leaving the game with injured ribs and being already without veteran tackle Donald Penn (on injured reserve with a groin injury) and guard Kelechi Osemele, rookie tackles Kolton Miller and Brandon Parker were devoured by an intense Seattle pass rush for most of the day, which didn’t bode well for Derek Carr.

The Raiders’ franchise signal-caller did complete 23-of-31 passes for just 142 yards, but was under siege the entire game as he was sacked six times. Whenever he dropped back to pass, Carr was almost immediately met by a Seattle defender.

Carr left the game with 8:52 left in the fourth quarter after apparently injuring his left arm on the last of the six sacks by defense tackle Jarran Reed on third down. Carr immediately grabbed his upper left arm after sitting up before being medically evaluated by the training staff.

Even if Carr had time to throw, Carr didn’t have his best wide receiver in the game in Amari Cooper, who was lost for the game after suffering a concussion on a nasty hit from Seahawks strong safety  Bradley McDougald in the second quarter.

Cooper ran a drag route over the middle of the field and attempted to catch a loss pass from Carr, before McDougald led with his shoulder resulting in the hit, that also showed the players made helmet-to-helmet contact was made.

No penalty was called.

Reserve wide receiver Seth Roberts, who replaced Cooper, left the game too with a concussion and didn’t return.

Roberts finished with five catches for 31 yards.

Backup running back Jalen Richard led the team with seven catches (on 8 targets) for 48 yards, largely due to Carr having to get the football out quick and relying on check-downs to running backs.

Early in the game for Oakland, it appeared that the Raiders wanted to get starting running back Marshawn Lynch more involved in the game, touching the football four times on Oakland’s first drive of the game (three runs and one pass), but the former Seahawk only managed one yard.

Lynch finished the game with 17 touches for 59 yards of total offense (13 carries for 45 yards and 3 catches for 14 yards) against his former team. Oakland only managed just 79 yards rushing in the game.

Oakland’s offense lacked fluidity and explosion in mustering just three points on Sunday. In the last two games, the Raiders have scored just 13 points combined after rolling up 45 points against the Cleveland Browns in Week 4.

Russell Wilson and the Seattle offense made life difficult for Raiders’ defense
The former Super Bowl MVP engineered a 14-play, 82-yard drive that culminated in a 5-yard touchdown thrown from Wilson to wide receiver Jaron Brown that staked Seattle to a 7-0 lead on the Seahawks’ first drive of the game in the first quarter.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, it was the first time that the Seahawks scored on their first offensive possession in a game since Week 3 of the 2016 season against the San Francisco 49ers, spanning 34 games. It was the NFL’s longest scoring drought for any team without a scoring touchdown on its opening possession.

Wilson completed 17-of-23 passes for 222 yards with three touchdowns and one interception to Raiders’ cornerback Daryl Worley after trying to force a pass to wide receiver Doug Baldwin, who was double-covered.

On top of his touchdown throw to Brown, Wilson  threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver David Moore in the second quarter, and a 10-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tyler Lockett that gave Seattle a commanding 27-0 lead in the fourth quarter.

Seattle was nearly flawless on third down, converting 9-of-13 opportunities. By the same measure, the Raiders only converted 4-of-12 third downs.

Running back Chris Carson rushed for 59 yards on 14 carries for Seattle, while rookie running back Rashaad Penny added 43 yards for Seattle who racked up 369 yards of total offense on the day. Seattle held the edge in time of possession, holding onto to the football for 31:26 to Oakland’s 28:34.

If it weren’t for head-scratching penalties by Seattle (8 for 64 yards) to Oakland’s (5 for 38 yards), the Seahawks could’ve really embarrassed Oakland in the United Kingdom.

Rookie Arden Key recorded his first-career sack in the game and linebacker Tahir Whitehead led the Raiders in tackles with six total (4 solo).

Key along with linebacker Bruce Irvin seems to be taking the loss, well per their comments to the media postgame.

“We lost, but I got a beautiful wife I get to go home to… I’m going to try to make some babies man,” Irvin said to reporters after the game.

“I mean, we came in and we got our ass whooped,” Key said. “Like there’s no way around it. We got our ass whooped from the first whistle to the last whistle.  So we just gotta remember that and come out fire next week and continue to come out with fire.”

Sebastian Janikowski scores nine points against former team
Janikowski, who joined the Seahawks in the offseason after 17 years with the Raiders, did his part in defeating his former team Sunday, knocking down both of his field goals — from 44 and 26 yards — and all three of his extra points.

UP NEXT

Seattle faces the Detroit Lions on Oct. 28 on the road after a bye week, while the Raiders will host the visiting Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 28, also after a bye week.
