San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor: 49ers lawyers outsmart Santa Clara officials; Deals work to 49ers favor financially

On the San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor:

#1 In 2014 the City of Santa Clara was reported to have made a bad deal with the San Francisco 49ers over the Levis Stadium that is public owned by the City. The City got “outplayed” according to a Santa Clara County Civil Grand Jury.

#2 Dave as we discussed you mentioned it was just a matter of the 49ers had smarter lawyers at the time they worked the contracts in their favor and pretty much got the Santa Clara City official to go right along with their plans. Also the 49ers had a conflict with the City of Santa Clara over how stadium maintenance was going to get paid and their relationship with Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor has been very adversarial through her first and now current second administrations.

#3 The 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk are at an impasse do you see them signing him to an extension.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Marko Ukalovic: Grand Jury says City Council members too cozy with 49er lobbyists; 49ers-Seahawks match up for Thursday Night Football in Seattle

Santa Clara City Councilman Anthony Becker says a recent grand jury report were not facts but were accusations regarding 49ers campaign donations for Becker’s mayoral run and that city council members were “too cozy” with 49ers lobbyists (photo from santaclara.gov)

On the 49ers podcast with Marko Ukalovic:

#1 Santa Clara City Councilman Anthony Becker who recently lost in an election bid for mayor to current Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor said that a grand jury report saying four city council members were re-elected based on San Francisco 49ers campaign contributions totaling in the millions of dollars and that city council members may have breached their duties were “not facts those are accusations.”

#2 Becker along with the three other city council members Raj Chahal, Karen Hardy, and Suds Jain also spoke out against the grand jury report questioning the facts of the letter saying that the council members were cozying up to the 49ers and that they were elected with the help of the 49ers campaign donations.

#3 The grand jury went even further saying that the 49ers lobbyists were dictating city policy regarding policy reforms, also making public of written minutes of private meetings held between the city council and the 49ers team officials.

#4 Back on the field the 49ers prepare to battle the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Stadium in Seattle for Thursday Night Football. The Seahawks lost their last game on Sunday to the Carolina Panthers 30-27. How do you see the 49ers matching up against the Seahawks this Thursday.

#5 The 49ers are relying heavily on rookie quarterback Brock Purdy for a win in Seattle on Thursday Night Football and just get your evaluations on how you see Purdy matching up against the Seattle pass rush in this upcoming game?

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Marko Ukalovic: Will Mayor’s office payback 49ers for what some called a dirty campaign?

Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor who was re-elected as confirmed on Wed Nov 16, 2022. The 49ers spent over $4 million to try and defeat Gillmor which failed. (file photo Mercury News)

On the San Francisco 49ers podcast with Marko:

#1 San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York paid millions to deliver mayoral candidate Anthony Becker who ended up losing to current Lisa Gillmor 14,376 to Anthony Becker 13,686. Gillmor wins by 687. How concerned has Jed have to be knowing that there was heavy campaigning against Gillmor sometimes some mudslinging and the 49ers could see payback from what some people called a nasty campaign.

#2 The election was Tue Nov 8th and in a tight race with over 95% of the ballot counted Gillmor was the decided winner on Wed Nov 16th from the Register of voters office in Santa Clara County. This was a crucial vote for York and the 49ers as York had been butting heads with Gillmor since Gillmor had been mayor and now they will have to try and do business another four years into her second term.

#3 Gillmor had sought maintenance revenue from the 49ers something both sides had haggled with over the years and when the opportunity came to vote Gillmor out of office York spent over $4 million in campaign money to get her voted out of office which the 49ers failed to do but by a narrow margin.

#4 Turning the 49ers next game up the team had been in Colorado Springs all week adjusting to the high elevation climate in preparation for tonight’s Monday Night Football game in Mexico City against the Arizona Cardinals. How beneficial do you see working out in Colorado and going onto Mexico City for Monday Night Football?

#5 Marko, how ready is Cardinal quarterback Kyler Murray he had been out with a hamstring and is expected to start on Sunday. He can be potent and drive the offense against the 49ers not to mention he can carry the ball.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Marko Ukalovic: Still counting votes in Santa Clara Mayor race; 49ers York has over $4 million invested in race

Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor pictured is waiting for results as well as her opponent City Councilman Anthony Becker in the Santa Clara Mayoral race. (NBC Bay Area TV still photo)

On the 49ers podcast with Marko:

#1 San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has over $4 million invested in the Santa Clara Mayoral race. York is hoping his spending money would land City Councilman Anthony Becker the Mayor’s job. Becker has backed the 49ers as current Mayor Lisa Gillmor has fought the 49ers on payments to the city for maintenance revenue.

#2 Marko as of Thursday night the race is tight with Gillmor in front with a slight lead 50.1 to Becker’s 49.8. This is a closely watched race because the 49ers have so much at steak in the Mayoral election. The 49ers have their hopes on Becker especially after the city council had voted to approve the over $1 million the 49ers paid in the maintenance fees.

#3 It was also reported that the 49ers this past election day had spent another $62,353 which means the 49ers have now spent a total of $4.6 million which works out to $80 per Santa Clara resident. If Gillmor was to win this election how will this change the relationship dynamic between the 49ers and Gillmor?

#4 On the field the 49ers are coming off a bye from last Sunday and a win over the Los Angeles Rams the week before. The mood in the dressing room and at practice has been positive since the win in the Southland.

#5 The 49ers are at home for Sunday Night Football Nov 13th against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers have been rolling wining four of their last five games. The Chargers defeated the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday 20-17 in Atlanta. How do you see this match on Sunday Night Football?

San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor: Grand jurors say they were followed and surveilled after grand jury report critical of 49ers

Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor is running against 49ers backed candidate Anthony Becker in the mayoral race for the City of Santa Clara. Gillmor is running for re-election in this Tue Nov 8, 2022 election (Business Journal file photo)

On the 49ers podcast with David:

#1 A grand juror report that said the San Francisco 49ers handling of their legal issues with the City of Santa Clara over their stadium management revenue was called a “hatchet job” and “contained dozens or lies” according to 49ers spokesman Rahul Chandhok. Chandhok said the grand jury had “stacked” the report with Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor’s allies who the Niners are trying to unseat in the upcoming Tuesday mayoral election. Chandhok said that the grand jury were a “kangaroo court” and “a partisan group of cronies co-opting the justice system” will the voters take the 49ers side or Mayor Gillmor’s side in the grand jury event.

#2 Former San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Quentin Kopp said that Chandhok’s comments are “rife with personal innuendoes.” Kopp said if he was the grand jury judge he would ask the Niners “why they shouldn’t be held in contempt of court?”

#3 There have been members of the grand jury who said they have been followed or surveilled after the 49ers report came out.
