#1 The San Jose Barracuda scored their most power play goals of the season with four as they defeated the Abbotsford Canucks 7-4 at Tech CU in San Jose.

#2 Marko their offense is going so well their seven goals on Saturday is also a season high for most goals scored in a game.

#3 It took seven different Barracuda scorers to combine the seven goals. The Barracuda Collin Graf had three assists and Luca Cagnoni scored twice on a power play.

#4 Barracuda goaltender Gabriel Carriere made 25 saves for his second win against no loses. Carriere is 3-0 in his AHL career. Carriere is doing so well he got an assist for Andrew Poturalski’s power play goal a first assist in his career.

#5 The Barracuda are getting a lot of offense and how much has that carried over to their parent club the San Jose Sharks who are starting to have some success of their own?

San Jose Barracuda split the series and beat the Toronto Marlies in a shootout 2-1

In his season debut, Gabriel Carriere records his first win making 31 saves on 31 shots and denying both players in the shootout. The San Jose Barracuda split the two game series with the Toronto Marlies. The Barracuda taking the second game on Sunday 2-1 in a shootout at Coca Cola Arena in Toronto.

San Jose was the first to go on the powerplay at 8:51 of the 1st after Roni Hirvonen took a holding penalty but couldn’t take advantage. Toronto then got their powerplay opportunity when Lucas Vanroboys took a seat for tripping. John McCarthy’s key to the game today was to get pucks to the net and the Barracuda did so outshooting Toronto 6-3 although being scoreless after the 1st.

The Barracuda went on the penalty kill early 37 seconds in when Ethan Cardwell took a tripping penalty. Toronto couldn’t take advantage of that and went on the penalty kill two minutes later when Robert Mastrosimone took a tripping penalty. With nine seconds left, Sam Stevens opens up the scoring in back to back games to give Toronto the lead. Toronto outshot San Jose 13-8 in the second so there’s no doubt one of those would go in.

seven seconds into the Barracuda’s fifth powerplay, Danil Guschin scored his third goal of the season tying the game at 1-1 in the third assisted by Luca Cagnoni and Filip Bystedt.

Regulation and overtime wasn’t enough and the game went to a shootout. First to shoot for the Marlies was Braeden Kressler who was denied. The Barracuda called upon Danil Guschin and he scored. The Marlies then sent out Logan Shaw who was also denied. With the opportunity to win it for the Barracuda, John McCarthy called upon Alternate Captain Andrew Poturalski who scored on a backhand shot.

The San Jose Barracuda will be back at home on the 29th for a 2 game series against the Abbotsford Canucks. The last time these 2 teams faced off was on February 24th where the Barracuda fell 5-2 with Magnus Chrona recording the loss.

San Jose Barracuda fall 3-0 in first game against Toronto Marlies

In Jimmy Schuldt’s first game as the Barracuda’s captain, the Barracuda fall to Toronto 3-0 at the Coca Cola Coliseum in Toronto. The San Jose Barracuda traveled to Toronto to take on the Marlies for a two game series for the first time in franchise history.

Outshooting the Barracuda 16-8 in the first, The Toronto Marlies got on the board on a Sam Stevens goal assisted by Logan Shaw and Cade Webber at 14:28 of the first period. After initially making the save, Romanov didn’t see Shaw in the corner of the net. With that goal, Stevens has his first goal of the season.

At 10:15 of the second, Ethan Cardwell took a tripping penalty and 8 seconds into the penalty kill, Roni Hirvonen scored his 2nd PPG of the season assisted by Nick Abruzzese and Topi Niemela. Coming into today’s game, San Jose’s PK was 88.3% and Toronto’s PP was 25.5%.

Being down 2-0 with a minute left of the 3rd, San Jose pulled Georgi Romanov leaving an empty net. This lead to an empty net goal scored by Ryan Tverberg assisted by Jacob Quillan to seal the deal to a 3-0 win for the first game of a 2 game series.

The Barracuda will play again tomorrow at 1:00pm PST looking to split the series.

#1 The San Jose Sharks have promoted goaltender Yaroslav Askarov from AHL affiliate the San Jose Barracuda. Askarov has had an outstanding season with the Barracuda is 6-3 with two shutouts and a 1.92 goals against average. Fernando this has to be a big opportunity for Askarov who could get a start tonight?

#2 The San Jose Sharks took a tough loss 4-3 from the Pittsburgh Penguins. in a shootout in their last game last Saturday in Pittsburgh that concluded their four game road trip. Fernando it’s not the kind of way that Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky wanted it to end?

#3 The Penguins Evgeni Malkin scored the winning goal of the shootout. Sidney Crosby and Anthony Beauvillier scored goals in the shootout as well. Fernando there is no doubt your looking at some very talented shooters in a shootout like that when your facing Malkin, Crosby and Beauvillier?

#4 The Sharks Alex Wennberg made the attempt to score on Penguins goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic in the fifth round of the shootout but couldn’t convert thus the Sharks lose it by a goal and those can be part of the frustrations of the game not being able to get that vital goal when the game is on the line?

#5 Fernando another note former Shark and current Penguin Erik Karlsson got an assist and passed former Shark Doug Wilson for 16th place on the NHL career points list for defensemen. You don’t see too many defensemen who can pile up the goals like Karlsson has done in his career?

#6 The Sharks (5-10-4) who are back in San Jose to face off with the Detroit Red Wings here at SAP Center. The Red Wings are a struggling bunch at 7-9-1 and seventh place in the Atlantic Division, the Wings have lost their last two games and lost seven of their last ten games. The Sharks coming off that loss in Pittsburgh have a good chance to pick up a win tonight?

#1 Tristen Robins scored two goals to help the San Jose Barracuda defeat the Colorado Eagles 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Tech CU Arena.

#2 San Jose snapped two streaks as it split the weekend series with the Eagles. They snapped their season long three-game losing streak and 12-game losing streak to their Pacific Division rival.

#3 After failing to finish the game the night before against Colorado, San Jose had a chip on its shoulder as they got off to a strong start in the opening frame. 

#4 The Barracuda scored twice to take a two goal 5-3 lead in third period. Both San Jose goals came from Tristen Robbins who contributed big in this win.

#1 Marko tough road trip to Iowa as the San Jose Barracuda (6-3-0-0) were swept in a brief two game series to the Iowa Wild (3-6-1-0) and on Sunday losing 5-2.

#2 The Barracuda after winning four straight now have lost three straight for head coach John McCarthy is there any concern right now? The Wild in those two games seemed to have figured out the Barracuda’s formula?

#3 The Wild scored the first three goals of the game all unanswered, in the first period at 13:19 Liam Olgren and at 18:18 David Spacek, Michael Milne scored the first goal of the second period at 5:13 the Wild were quickly up 3-0.

#4 At 19:13 of the second period Andrew Poturalski scored the first of two unanswered goals for the Barracuda and in the third period at 8:32 cutting the Wild’s lead to 3-2.

#5 The Wild would put it out of reach in the third period at 13:18 on Hunter Haight’s goal and at 15:50 Devine Shore scored the game’s last goal for a 5-2 final. Tough Sunday for Barracuda goaltender Georgi Romanov allowing five goals stopping 31 shots.

#5 Up next the Barracuda open up a two game set against the Colorado Eagles on Sat Nov 9th at Tech CU for a 6:00pm PST. The Eagles have won their last two games are in fourth in the Pacific Division at 4-3-0-1. How do you see these two games this coming Saturday?

Barracuda cruise past Wild 7-3 with second period onslaught, sweep series

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Barracuda scored five goals in the second period to route the Iowa Wild 7-3 on Sunday afternoon at Tech CU Arena.

San Jose swept the two-game series and has jumped out to a great start in the young season. Iowa remained defeated through their first four games.

San Jose (3-1-0) drew first blood early in the first period with an even strength goal. Anthony Vincent sent the puck back up to the point to Luca Cagnoni. The rookie defenseman skated in from the left wing and lasered in a wrist shot just inside the near post past Wild goalie Jesper Wallstedt for his second goal of the season at the 2:08 mark.

The Barracuda doubled its lead 24 seconds later. Collin Graf found Justin Bailey inside the Wild zone. Bailey skated in all alone and beat Wallstedt to the far side with a wrist shot for his first goal of the season at the 2:36 mark.

Iowa (0-4-0) answered back 35 seconds later. Micheal Milne sent a cross-ice pass over to Hunter Haight who buried a wrist shot past Cuda goalie Georgi Romanov for his first goal of the season at the 3:01 mark.

The Cuda regained their two-goal lead late in the second period thanks to a great individual play from Lucas Vanroboys in the neutral zone. Vanroboys collected a loose puck near the red line then skated around three Wild defenders before tucking the puck underneath the pads of Wallstedt inside the crease for his first goal of the season at the 13:23 mark.

San Jose went up 4-1 with a power play goal exactly two minutes later. Ethan Cardwell sent the puck from the left wing into the middle of the crease where Scott Sabourin redirected the puck past Wallstedt for his first goal of the season at the 15:23 mark.

Iowa cut the lead in half on the next shift. An odd man rush led to Cameron Crotty finding Haight in the left slot and Haight beat Romanov with a wrist shot to the short side for his second goal of the game at the 15:50 mark.

San Jose made Iowa pay on their next shift. Brandon Coe sent a backhanded pass through the crease to an unmarked Filip Bystedt in front of the crease and the Swedish center buried the puck into the back of the net for his second goal of the season at the 16:03 mark.

The Barracuda weren’t done yet as over a minute and a half later they increased their cushion by four goals. Colin White cleaned up a rebound off a shot from the point by Cagnoni for his second goal of the season at the 17:40 mark.

San Jose scored its fifth goal of the period when Ethan Frisch fired a slapshot from the left point past Wallstedt for his first goal of the season at the 18:07 mark. Donovan Houle picked up his second point of the game with the primary assist. That ended the night for Wallstedt as he gave up seven goals on 25 shots. Backup goalie Samuel Hlavaj replaced Wallstedt to start the third period.

The Wild scored its third goal at the halfway mark of the third period.

Romanov earned his first victory of the season as he stopped 36 of the 39 shots he faced. Hlavaj only faced five shots in the final 20 minutes and saved all five.

GAME NOTES: San Jose finished 1-for-3 on the power play. Iowa went 0-for-2.

San Jose is 10-4-2-0 all time versus the Wild including 6-1-2-0 at home.

The Three Stars of the Game were: 1) Sabourin 2) Haight 3) Cagnoni.

Barracuda Shut Out Wild 5-0, Cagnoni Scores First Pro Goal

The San Jose Barracuda defeated the visiting Iowa Wild 5-0 on Saturday. Donavan Houle, Anthony Vincent, Colin White and Luca Cagnoni scored for the Barracuda. Yaroslav Askarovin made 25 saves for the shutout win. Jesper Wallstedt made 33 saves in the loss.

San Jose was short-handed one time in the first period and led Iowa in shots 15-10.

The Barracuda scored the first goal of the game at 11:44 of the second period. Anthony Vincent was knocked into Wallstedt early in the play. While the Wild expressed their anger at Vincent for falling into their goalie, Vincent took his time getting up and created quite a distraction in front of the net. Meanwhile, Donavan Houle found the puck and scored. Assists went to Ethan Frisch and Valtteri Pulli.

San Jose led in shots 15-7 in the second period. They were not short-handed in the second except for the first minute as their late first period penalty carried-over. They did have three power plays but did not score with the man advantage.

Anthony Vincent scored an insurance goal 4:10 into the third period. Donavan Houle won a battle along the boards to push the puck into the slot where Vincent caught it for the shot.

Houle got credit for his second of the game short-handed at 6:20. His shot was stopped but the Wild defense knocked the puck in the net while trying to move it back out.

Colin White made it 4-0 with another short-handed goal at 13:09. Collin Graf intercepted a drop pass near the Barracuda blue line and got the puck to White before skating into the Wild zone two-on-one with White.

Luca Cagnoni scored San Jose’s fifth goal of the night on the power play at 18:10. Cagnoni scored his first goal as a pro with a shot from just below the blue line and through traffic. Kasper Halttunen and Filip Bystedt got the assists.

The Barracuda will play again on Sunday at 3:00 PM PT in San Jose against the Wild.

Barracuda Fall 4-3 to Reign, Reign Score 2 in Final 90 Seconds

The San Jose Barracuda fell 4-3 to the Ontario Reign Sunday. It was Ontario’s first win of the season. Tyler Madden, Martin Chromiak and Samuel Helenius scored for the Reign. Phoenix Copley made 19 saves for the win. Tristen Robins, Colin Graf and Filip Bystedt scored for the Barracuda. Georgi Romanov made 35 saves in the loss.

Tyler Madden scored the first goal of the game, giving Ontario an early lead at 1:33. During a delayed penalty call, Madden gathered up a rebound at the corner of the net and lifted it past Romanov. Assists went to Martin Chromiak and Jakub Dvorak.

The teams were skating four-on-four when Tristen Robins tied the game at 4:24. Robins took tha shot from a bad angle to the right of the net. Assists went to Jimmy Schuldt and Jake Furlong.

Collin Graf gave the Barracuda the lead at 11:04. On a breakaway, he took a shot in front of the net, caught his own rebound and lifted the puck past the goaltender.

The Reign had a significant lead in shots at the end of the first period, 14-7. There was just one penalty that resulted in a power play in the first, and it went against San Jose.

Filip Bystedt added to San Jose’s lead at 1:50 of the second period. Tristen Robins carried the puck in and passed across the ice to Bystedt for a quick goal.

Martin Chromiak cut the lead down with a goal just 22 seconds later. Tyler Madden made a cross-ice pass and Chromiak took the shot from above the faceoff dot.

In the second period, the teams were even in shots at 9-9. The Reign had three power plays and the Barracuda had two but both penalty kills were perfect. The same held true for the third period, when Ontario had two power plays and San Jose had one but neither team could score.

San Jose held their 3-2 lead until 18:44 of the third period, when Samuel Helenius tied the game with an extra skater on for the Reign.

With the game looking like it would go to overtime, Helenius scored a second goal at 19:26 to win the game. Jeff Malott got the assist.

San Jose pulled their goaltender with less than 30 seconds to go but they ran out of time. The shot count in the third period was 16-6 Ontario.

The Barracuda next play on Saturday the 19th back in San Jose against the visiting Iowa Wild at 7:00 PM PT.
