The San Jose Barracuda defeated the Coachella Valley Firebirds 2-1 in a battle for fourth place in the Pacific Division on Wednesday evening at Tech CU Arena.

San Jose has won four games in a row and five on home ice as they went undefeated on its four-game homestand (4-0). Coachella Valley has lost four of their last five games.

A scoreless first period featured a fight between John Hayden and Oliver Wahlstrom at the 16:12 mark. Coachella Valley (23-15-5-0-51 points) out shot San Jose 13-11 despite the Cuda having the only power play opportunity. Barracuda goalie Laurent Brossoit was perfect in the opening frame.

San Jose (25-13-1-2-53 points) drew first blood early in the second period with an even strength goal. Jimmy Huntington scored an unassisted goal, his eighth of the season at the 3:29 mark. Huntington skated down the left wing and centered a puck to the crease where the puck deflected off of a Firebirds defender and into the back of the net.

The Barracuda doubled its lead just under three minutes later. Cam Lund centered the puck through the crease with Igor Chernyshov crashing the net. With Firebirds goalie Victor Östman out of position, Jack Thompson collected the puck and fired it into an open net for his third goal of the season at the 6:11 mark. Braden Hache received the secondary assist.

Jani Nyman spoiled Brossoit’s shutout bid with his ninth goal of the season with 1:18 remaining in the game with a six-on-five goal. Tyson Jugnauth set up Nyman who beat Brossoit with a one-timer as the Cuda netminder was slow to get up earlier on the play when he was taken out with traffic in front of the crease.

Brossoit (7-4-0) finished the game stopping 37 of the 38 shots he faced to earn his seventh win of the season. Östman (9-9-3-1) made 41 saves on 43 shots in the losing effort.

SAN JOSE — Filip Bystedt has become one of the standout players for the San Jose Barracuda.

Bystedt’s three-point night led the Cuda in its 7-2 thrashing over the Calgary Wrangler on Saturday evening at Tech CU Arena.

San Jose swept their weekend series against its Pacific Division rival and has won four out of its last five games. Calgary has lost nine of its past 10 games.

San Jose (24-13-1-2-51 points) drew first blood early in the first period with an even strength goal. Collin White sent the puck back up to the point. Braden Hache sent a wrist shot toward the net that bounced off of the glove of Wranglers goalie Ivan Prosvetov into the back of the net for his first goal of the season at the 1:33 mark.

Hache snapped a 40-game goalless drought. The last time he scored a goal was against Calgary in the second to last game last season.

Calgary (16-18-8-2-42 points) answered back just under two minutes later. Sam Morton collected the puck near the right faceoff circle and beat Cuda goalie Gabriel Carriere with a seeing-eyed wrist shot for his eighth goal of the season at the 2:49 mark.

The Barracuda regained their lead 31 seconds into the second period. Oliver Wahlstrom led an odd man rush up the ice after receiving a touch pass from White. Wahlstrom wired a wrist shot top shelf as he beat Prosvetov to the short side for his 12th goal of the season.

San Jose went up 3-1 when another defenseman snapped a long goalless draught. Igor Chernyshov sent a cross rink pass over to Mattias Havelid who blasted a one-timer past Prosvetov for his second goal of the season at the 8:54 mark. Havelid went 22 games between his goals this season. Bystedt had the secondary assist.

Anthony Vincent has become a scoring machine for the Cuda. He scored San Jose’s third unanswered goal and his second in back-to-back games. Donovan Houle won a battle along the boards. The puck squirted out to Vincent who buried a wrist shot past Prosvetov for his third goal of the season at the 10:03 mark.

That ended the night for Prosvetov (8-7-1-1) as Wranglers head coach Brett Sutter pulled him for backup goalie Arsenii Sergeev. Prosvetov finished his early evening with just 13 saves on 17 shots.

Calgary answered back 31 seconds on the next shift. Rory Kerins centered a puck from behind the net out to Morton whose initial shot was saved by Carriere. Morton cleaned up his own rebound for his second goal of the game and ninth of the season.

San Jose put the game away in the first four minutes of the third period with two goals. Jimmy Huntington centered a pass while taking a hit from the end boards out to a wide open Egor Afanasyev. The Russian winger got Sergeev to go down before roofing a backhander over him for his seventh goal of the season at the 1:56 mark.

Then at the 3:37 mark, Bystedt sprung Cam Lund on a breakaway with a pass from inside his own zone. Lund skated and beat Sergeev with a shot through the five-hole for his ninth goal of the season. Lund extended his goal streak to four games.

Bystedt concluded the game’s scoring when he beat Sergeev with a wrist shot from the slot for his team leading 13th goal of the season at the 14:13 mark.

Carriere (10-7-3-1) finished the game stopping 14 of the 16 shots to earn his 10th win of the season. Sergeev made eight saves on 11 shots in mop up duty.

GAME NOTES: San Jose finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play. Calgary went 0-for-1. Two streaks ended with San Jose going 0-for-2. One, it snapped the Cuda’s seven-game streak with at least one power play goal and the other was San Jose had scored a goal on the man advantage in every game against Calgary this season.

The Three Stars of the Game: 1) Bystedt 2) Morton 3) Afanasyev.

San Jose hosted its second “CudaMania” Night where they donned wrestling themed uniforms. Former WEE wrestler Rob Van Dam dropped the puck during the ceremonial faceoff before the game. Van Dam did a private meet and greet with fans three hours before the game.

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Barracuda scored every which way but loose in a balanced scoring attack with their 5-1 victory over the Calgary Wranglers on Friday evening at Tech CU Arena

San Jose has won three out of its last four games. Calgary has lost eight out of its last nine games.

Calgary (16-17-8-2-42 points) drew first blood late in the first period. A shot from the point by Zayne Parekh was initially Barracuda goalie Laurent Brossoit but Sam Morton crashed the net and cleaned up the rebound for his seventh goal at the 16:19 mark.

San Jose (23-13-1-2-49 points) had trouble with their puck management in the opening 20 minutes as turnovers inside their own zone led to two quality chances by Calgary only to have Brossoit bail them up with saves on each chance.

The Cuda had two short-handed breakaway chances in the final minute of the period, one by Igor Chernyshov with 48 seconds left and one by Patrick Giles with 12 seconds remaining only to have Wranglers starting goalie Ivan Prosvetov stone away both shots.

Donovon Houle evened the scored early in the second period with an unassisted goal, his first of the season. Patrick Giles had the puck checked away from him along the right board. Houle, who played in his 100th game in a Cuda uniform, picked up the puck, made a move toward the net before unleashing a wrist shot top self at the 7:14 mark

San Jose gained its first lead in the middle frame with a power play goal. Luca Cagnoni found Filip Bystedt along the goal line. From a near impossible angle, Bystedt snuck a wrist shot behind Prosvetov into the back of the net for his 12th goal of the season at 11:48 mark.

Calgary took exception to Bystedt putting in his own rebound on the play as they created chaos behind the goal after the goal was scored with a bunch of pushing and shoving. They continued to muck up the play the rest of the contest as San Jose’s agitation was too tough for to handle.

The Barracuda scored an insurance goal short-handed to start the third period thanks for a gaffe by Calgary. While coming out of his own zone, Jeremie Poirier made a drop pass with no behind him. Anthony Vincent collected the puck in the middle of the ice and beat Prosvetov with a wrist shot to the glove side for just his second goal of the season at the 3:21 mark. It snapped a 32-game schneid for Vincent.

San Jose cashed in on their fifth power play opportunity with its second goal on the man advantage. Cam Lund picked up the puck along the right boards. Lund skated around back up to the slot before beating Prosvetov with a wrist shot to the far side for his eighth goal of the season at the 7:12 mark. Lund has scored a goal in three straight games.

The Cuda scored its fifth unanswered goal just 15 seconds later on the next shift. Nolan Allen scored his first goal in a Barracuda sweater when his slapshot from the left point found its way in for his third overall goal of the season.

Brossoit (6-4-0) finished the game stopping 22 of the 23 shots he faced to earn his sixth win with San Jose. Prosvetov made 37 saves on 42 shots in the losing effort.

GAME NOTES: San Jose finished 2-for-5 on the power play. Calgary went 0-for-4.

Jack Thompson returned to the lineup since he suffered an injury back on December 31st, 2025.

Collin White celebrated his 29th birthday on the evening.

San Jose held its First Responders Night at The Reef.

The Three Stars of the Game: 1) Vincent 2) Bystedt 3) Lund.

Bakersfield regained its lead when James Hamblin found Josh Brown with a backdoor pass as Brown beat Brossoit with a shot into an open net for his second goal of the season at the 8:48 mark. Brown has both of his goals this season against San Jose.

Max Jones was rewarded with a penalty shot when he drew a penalty on a breakaway with 2:59 remaining in the middle frame. Jones tried to deke out Brossoit with a move to the left side, but Brossoit made a sliding right pad save to keep the deficit at a one-goal game.

Once again, the Barracuda scored the equalizer to start a period. Egor Afanasyev skated into the Condor’s zone and fired a wrist shot just to the right of the net. Huntington crashed the net and cleaned up the rebound off of the back boards into an open net for his seventh goal of the season at the 2:23 mark of the third period.
