San Francisco Giants podcast with Michael Duca: Posey, Belt, and Crawford had All Star first half, but only Crawford will go

On the SF Giants podcast with Michael:

Michael goes over some of the Giants’ All-Star selections Buster Posey, who won’t be going due to his hip ailment. Posey hit .287, 81 hits, 5 home runs, and 28 RBIs. Posey will be resting the hip after Sunday’s game against the Oakland A’s as the All-Star break gives him four days to rest. Posey will be getting a cortisone shot for the hip after Sunday’s game.

Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford boasts .295 BA, 94 hits, 10 home runs, 39 RBIs, and a great first half asset and a key hitter in game-winning situations will be the lone Giant representing the Giants at the All-Star game.

Giants first baseman Brandon Belt didn’t get that last minute push at the All-Star ballot box and didn’t make the All-Star team. Belt, who had a great first half, only to be interrupted by appendectomy surgery. Did his surgery slow down his chances at making the All-Star team?

The Giants host the hottest team in the big leagues, the Oakland A’s, tonight. Michael takes a look at how tough a customer the A’s will be in this series.

San Francisco Giants podcast with Marko Ukalovic: Holland and Quintana matched up well in Tuesday’s contest; Former Giants coach Flannery is Giant PA announcer for a day

mercurynews.com file photo: San Francisco Giants PA announcer Tim Flannery took the day off from his work at NBC Bay Area TV to work for Renel the regular Giants PA announcer who took the day off to M.C. Mayor London Breed’s  inauguration at San Francisco City Hall

On the SF Giants podcast with Marko:

Addison Russell of the Chicago Cubs hit a double off San Francisco Giants’ starter Derek Holland. Holland was lifted after Russell’s hit. Giant reliever Sam Dyson threw a wild pitch that allowed Russell to score. For Holland, it was a hard fought loss. Holland went 6.1 innings, one run, five hits, no walks and eight strikeouts.

The Cubs are a tough customer and their starter Tuesday Jose Quintana went six innings, three hits, two walks, three strike outs, Quintana improves his record to 8-6. The Cubs will be starting Mike Montgomery (3-3) going against Giants’ Johnny Cueto (3-1).

Cueto struggled in his last outing, giving up a combined five runs in the first two inning of his last start last Thursday at AT&T Park against the St Louis Cardinals.

Giants’ side note: Former San Francisco Giants third base coach Tim Flannery was the P.A. announcer for Wednesday’s Giants vs. Cubs game. Flannery was on NBC Bay Area Sports sitting in the P.A. booth practicing reading his notes in his P.A. voice on the live broadcast before the ball game.

Renel, who is the Giants regular P.A. announcer, missed her first two Giants games as announcer when her mother passed away and when Renel had a broken leg she was replaced by USF announcer Joey Hallisy both times. Renel was the announcer at the ceremony for Mayor London Breed’s inauguration at San Francisco City Hall on Wednesday. Renel will be back in the P.A. line up Friday when the Giants host the Oakland A’s.

San Francisco Giants podcast with Morris Phillips and Michael Duca: The youth movement has begun; Giants get help from Suarez, Duggar and Hanson to hold off Cubs

@NBCSGiants photo: It was a pitchers duel as the San Francisco Giants came out ahead 2-1 with starters for the Chicago Cubs Kyle Hendricks left and for the Giants Andrew Suarez (right)

On the SF Giants podcast with Morris and Michael:

The youth movement at the San Francisco Giants has begun. They have a mix of veterans and youth. Steven Duggar started and led off on Monday night, Giants starter Andrew Suarez was consistent and has been more impressive than pitcher Chris Stratton.

Suarez went six innings, three hits, a run, earned, four walks and five strikeouts. Suarez was really on his game in beating the Chicago Cubs 2-1. It’s been a team of a cast of 1000s and guys are coming out of nowhere to make contributions.

Alen Hanson and Pablo Sandoval feel like starters. They don’t even feel like replacements at this point. At some point, you have to wonder if this is going to be a story of the Giants or individual achievements and we’re still waiting to see if this team can get hot.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor: Dwight Clark has ashes laid to rest on Eddie DeBartolo’s ranch; Foster has a lot to mend for this season

yahoosports file photo: San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dwight Clark (87) goes for a run against the Minnesota Vikings was laid to rest next to the goal post from the 1981 NFC Championship game at former Eddie DeBartolo’s ranch in Montana

On the San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor:

Former San Francisco 49er Dwight Clark had his ashes laid to rest at former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo’s ranch. DeBartolo had the goal post from the game in which Clark made “the catch” that beat the Dallas Cowboys to advance to the Super Bowl in 1981.

Dave also talks about 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster, who will be suspended for first two games of the season for weapons offense and a misdemeanor drug offense. That being said, Foster is listed as one of the NFL’s elite linebackers from 2017.

San Francisco Giants podcast with Morris Phillips: Crawford and Posey named to All-Star team; Big day for Sandoval on Sunday with 5 RBIs

sfexaminer.com file photo: Shortstop Brandon Crawford had himself an All Star first half for the Giants and will be going to Washington for the mid summer classic next week

On the SF Giants podcast with Morris:

The Giants’ Pablo Sandoval came through with a three-run blast in the fifth to help the Giants in a 13-8 five-run win at AT&T Park on Sunday. Sandoval’s blast was one of three hits by a Giant hitter. Andrew McCutchen and Alan Hansen also got three hits in Sunday’s game.

The Giants’ 13 runs against the Cardinals were the most since they did it off the Minnesota Twins on June 11, 2016. Sandoval hit for five RBIs for the third time in his career. The Giants host the Chicago Cubs tonight at AT&T Park. The Cubs are a a big draw and should sell out the park for all three dates and prove to be a great contest for the Giants.

Morris also talks about the elections of Giants’ All-Stars Brandon Crawford and Buster Posey to next’s week’s All-Star game.

San Francisco Giants podcast with Michael Duca: Cueto gets lit up in return; Giants coming off sweep in Colorado and are looking for some knock from the lineup

abc 7 file photo: San Francisco Giants starter Johnny Cueto who made his return from the DL on Thursday night against the St Louis Cardinals at AT&T Park

On the SF Giants podcast with Miguel:

The San Francisco Giants–coming off a sweep in Colorado–came back to AT&T Park on Thursday night for a 10-game homestand. Michael takes a look how much the team was looking forward to coming back after getting swept in Colorado.

The Giants faced tough pitching from the Rockies. They couldn’t solve starter Tyler Anderson. Anderson went eight innings, two hits, allowed two walks, and nine strikeouts. A great line for a pitcher who kept the Giants off balance.

The Giants’ second baseman Brandon Crawford owns the NL Central. He’s hitting .517 (15-29) against the NL Central pitching. Crawford’s .517 clip is tops for any MLB player against any MLB division.

The Giants’ Derek Rodriguez gets another turn Friday. A great outing last Saturday. going 6.1 innings, five strikeouts, two walks, six hits and 102 pitches. Rodriguez was actually a desperation choice with Jeff Samardjiza and Johnny Cueto on the disabled list. Rodriguez really panned out during Samardjiza and Cueto’s absence for the Giants’ pitching staff.

San Francisco Giants podcast with Michael Duca and Morris Phillips: After sweeping Arizona, Giants get swept by Colorado

On the SF Giants podcast with Michael and Morris:

The Giants, who swept the Arizona Diamondbacks on this road trip, and who would have thought that would happen? In the month of June, the Giants were on the biggest rollercoaster there is and they swept the D-Backs and Giants’ pitcher Dereck Rodriguez has pitched great 3-1 with a 3.16 ERA and it’s not a place a Giants baseball team go to win a series, let alone swept a series.

Then, the Giants went to Denver and dropped the first two games to the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field and it was kind of surprising fashion that they got five hits each night. That’s not going to be enough hits. The Giants get a home run and then it’s just four hits for the rest of the ballgame.

You saw those gaps in the lineups–guys were going O-fors. It’s the biggest mystery going why a veteran baseball team can’t win road games to be this poor on the road and lose 8-1 on Tuesday night. It’s a head scratcher.

San Francisco Giants’ Wednesday game wrap: Iannetta’s HR sinks Giants 1-0

By Jeremy Harness

There were fireworks going off all around the country on the 4th of July, to celebrate this nation’s independence.

However, none of the fireworks came from the Giants’ bats, and they sure weren’t free Wednesday night, as Tyler Anderson stifled the Giants in a 1-0 loss to the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, completing a three-game sweep at the hands of their National League West rivals.

Anderson (6-3) went eight innings and surrendered only two hits while allowing only two walks against nine strikeouts.

Andrew Suarez (3-5) was not that bad, either. In fact, he surrendered five hits and struck out six batters while not walking anyone while going seven strong innings. It was his best outing of the season.

However, one mistake in the seventh inning proved to be his undoing. Chris Iannetta laid into a wayward pitch from Suarez and sent it over the left-field wall, hugging the foul pole in the process.

The umpiring crew reviewed the home run, but the visual evidence was too great, and the home run was upheld. The Giants could not recover from the blow and could not solve Anderson, and although they got a hot off him, could not break through against closer Wade Davis, who collected his 25th save of the year.

The Giants will not lick their wounds and come home to face the St. Louis Cardinals for a four-game series at AT&T Park.

San Francisco Giants podcast with Marko Ukalovic: Giants face tough pitching; Rockies could put it to bed for a sweep

On the SF Giants podcast with Marko:

The Giants dropped their second game to the Colorado Rockies in the series 8-1 on Tuesday night. The Giants were dominated by Rockies pitcher Antonio Senzatela, who went seven innings, no runs, three hits, no walks and four strikeouts. The Rockies’ Charles Blackmon had three hits and a triple, Trevor Story hit a triple, Nolan Arenado hit his 22nd home run and the Rockies have won five of their last six games.

Giants pitcher Chris Stratton was rocked for eight runs, 11 hits, in 5.2 innings of work. Game three is tonight at Coors Field as the Giants try to avoid the sweep in Colorado.

San Francisco Giants podcast with Marko Ukalovic: Crawford’s key to Giants making postseason; Crawford heading for an MVP and All Star game

On the SF Giants podcast with Marko:

What a season for San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford, who hit an eighth inning bloop single that put him on the bases to later steal a base, and then scored the go-ahead run to help San Francisco get by the Colorado Rockies at AT&T Park 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Crawford has been proving it all year and he’s earned a spot on the NL All-Star Game starting lineup for top vote getter leading as of today by 800,000 votes ahead of all NL second basemen in the running for the starting position.

The Giants’ third baseman Evan Longoria, who had hand surgery, is now doing physical therapy and Longoria is still expected to be back in six to eight weeks. Also, Giants pitcher Jeff Samardzija is expected to return to San Francisco soon.

Samardzija suffered shoulder tightness pitched in Triple-A Sacramento, throwing 88 pitches, six runs, seven hits, and two walks, and four innings of work. Marko says this was 88 pitches that gave Samardzija a chance to work on a few things.
