On the 49ers podcast with Charlie O:

#1 Just wanted to ask you about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo saying that he didn’t go through OTAs and training camp saying that he has to get in the game and get in shape referring to his rough loss to the Denver Broncos last Sunday in Denver.

#2 Garoppolo in a news conference saying this past week said that he did lack rhythm in his last start and had arm fatigue after the 49ers had scored a field goal in the last 53 minutes of the ball game.

#3 Garoppolo was also asked when he was seen on camera yelling during the frustrating contest with the Broncos if he was voicing his opinions of the offensive play calling by head coach Kyle Shanahan? Garoppolo said “I don’t know I don’t read lips” and “You say a lot of things in the heat of battle” and “Me and Kyle are cool.”

#4 Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw missed two straight practices due to a knee injury he did play 42 of 74 snaps in Denver. How much will Kinlaw be missed out of the line up for Monday Night Football?

#5 Talk about Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matt Stafford who went 18-25 for 249 yards and threw no touchdowns or interceptions against the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday. How do you see him throwing against the 49ers defense on Monday Night Football?

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: How big a hole does Kittle’s absence create for today’s game against Seattle

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle runs for it against the Houston Texans during Jan 2, 2022 game at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara. Kittle is unlikely to be in the line up for today’s home opener against the Seattle Seahawks. (AP News file photo)

On the SF 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe, just how much of a hole does it create for the 49ers facing the Seattle Seahawks in today’s home opener with tight end George Kittle out of the line up.

#2 Kittle was listed as questionable but most likely will not make his 2022 appearance as he’s been out with a groin injury he suffered in practice back on Sep 5.

#3 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that Kittle looked “awesome” during half speed sessions. Rain is in the forecast for today’s game in Santa Clara but Shanahan said that the wet weather did not play a role in whether or not Kittle will play.

#4 49ers offensive line coach Chris Foerster said that the Seahawks defensive line have “really, really big guys” Foerster said that when he reviews video of their defense they take up a lot of the space on the frame. Joe would you say the key reason the Hawks were able to edge the Denver Broncos last week was because they do have a big sized line?

#5 The 49ers this week were able to sign punter Mitch Wishnowsky 30 to a four year extension that would have him playing in Santa Clara through the 2026 season. Wishnowsky was 22nd in punting in the NFL with 45 yards.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Nate Sudfeld (7) prepares to heave one against the Minnesota Vikings defense on Sat Aug 20, 2022 at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis (AP News photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe, there was a combination of back up in Saturday night’s game in Minnesota for head coach Kyle Shanahan to evaluate we’ll start with the back up quarterbacks vying for a job at the quarterback position Brock Purdy and Nate Sudfeld what impressed you most about their work under center?

#2 Sudfeld went 13-17 for 102 yards and a touchdown he’s been getting a lot of looks in the last two pre season games.

#3 Brock Purdy could end up as the third stringer for Trey Lance, Purdy 14-23 for 128 yards from the sound of head coach Kyle Shanahan he’s pretty keyed in on Purdy.

#4 Joe, talk about the defense they held the Vikings to seven points is this reflective of the kind of defense the 49ers will have in the regular seaon?

#5 49ers return back to Santa Clara on Thu Aug 25th against the Houston Texans. Will Lance get to play the first half in this one and what are some of the things that coach Shanahan looks for in this final pre season game.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle takes in Fri Aug 12, 2022 pre season game against the Green Bay Packers at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara (AP News photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance in his first series drove the 49ers for 27 yards in nine plays resulting in a field goal by kicker Robbie Gould. It was the result that Lance was looking for getting on the scoreboard while working the effort.

#2 Lance to start the drive he went two for three for 11 yards and a seven yard scramble on the opening play of the game. Lance finished the game going four for five for 92 yards.

#3 Joe, Jimmy Garoppolo is still on the roster and still is waiting to see where he will land as he did not play on Friday night. There is interest in Garoppolo from the New York Jets as quarterback Zack Wilson is suffering a knee injury and the Cleveland Browns had expressed interest if quarterback Deshaun Watson is suspended more than six games.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: The line will play a critical role against Rams; Shanahan leaning towards Garoppolo at QB Sunday

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (85) runs against Seattle Seahawks cornerback D.J. Reed (2) and defensive back Marquise Blair at Levi Stadium on Sun Oct 3, 2021. Kittle needs 100 more receiving yards to get to 1,000 for the season as the 49ers play the Rams in Los Angeles on Sun Jan 9, 2022 (AP News file photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe, how crucial will physicality play for the San Francisco 49ers (9-7) line against the Los Angeles Rams (12-4) on Sunday?

#2 Another question Joe that was asked during this week’s zoom pressers with 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDonald, defensive coordinator Demeco Ryans, and tight end George Kittle why do the 49ers match up so well with the Rams.

#3 Two scenarios for the 49ers to get into post season first scenario they need to beat the Rams Sunday night or they need the New Orleans Saints (8-8) to lose to the Atlanta Falcons (7-9). Still the odds are 50-50 either way for the 49ers for a shot at post season.

#4 Kittle is having quite a year he’s been piling up the receiving yards and need 100 yards receiving to get to 1,000 yards. If achieved Kittle would join the ranks of Jerry Rice, and Terrell Owens as the only three 49ers to have 1,000 yards in a single year.

#5 Joe, Sunday how do you see the 49ers and Rams matching up in this one in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon. The biggest game of the year for both teams a 1:25 pm kickoff.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: Is Jimmy G coming back or will he be finished with San Francisco?

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (10) tries to get out of the way of getting caught from his right side by the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on Thu Dec 23, 2021 (AP News photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 After the thumb injury sustained in Tennessee during Thursday Night Football on Dec 23 and some of the criticism you hear from the media that he could be through with the San Francisco 49ers (8-7) what is your reaction from that.

#2 Head coach Kyle Shanahan sounded quite the opposite when speaking to the media on Wednesday saying that Garoppolo has a thumb sprain might just be able to get back in the starting line up for Sunday’s game.

#3 Meanwhile back up quarterback Trey Lance back on Oct 10th while playing in Arizona against the Cardinals had suffered a knee injury and what is reported severe damaged vocal cords (from audibles on the practice squad) is close to being named the starting quarterback this Sunday.

#4 Some of the football analysts and journalist have said that it is time for Lance to take over the reigns of starting quarterback and after Garoppolo’s performance against the Titans that pretty much suffices that. If true is Lance ready being a rookie for such a big role.

#5 The 49ers have won five of their last seven games, lost a tough game to the Titans in their last outing and host a Houston Texans (4-11) who have won their last two games. How do you see this match up Sunday at Levi Stadium this Sunday.

#1 Joe, talk about the Atlanta Falcons (6-7) wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson he’s been compared to the San Francisco 49ers (7-6) wide receiver Deebo Samuel both have five touchdown catches this season and you’ll get a chance to compare them side by side later today.

#2 Head coach Kyle Shanahan said it’s important to have a turnover free game the 49ers are 12-1 when they don’t turn the ball over. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo wins most of his games when he doesn’t throw an interception.

#3 Joe, talk about rookie running back Elijah Mitchell who will not be in the line up for today’s game and Shanahan has said he was not “optimistic” about Mitchell even returning for this Thursday’s game against the Tennessee Titans. Mitchell is clear from concussion protocols but his suffering a knee injury.

#4 The grieving process takes a long time said coach Shanahan regarding 49er cornerback Dontae Johnson who mother passed away and was away last week. Shanahan said that getting Johnson out there and to prepare for today’s game this past week will help him mentally prepare. Johnson 30 is starting in place of Emmanuel Moseley.

#5 Kickoff is at 1:25pm today at Levi Stadium between the Falcons and 49ers, the Falcons have been playing .500 ball winning four of their last eight games, defeating the Carolina Panthers (5-8) last Sunday 29-21. San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: Shanahan-inserting Lance would disrupt play calling; Look for Garoppolo to complete games

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (5) is not expected to see much game action as starter Jimmy Garoppolo has been starting and completing most of the recent games. Garoppolo will start this Sunday against Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field in Seattle (AP file photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe, the San Francisco 49ers (6-5) above .500 having won three straight games and are looking like their back on track what would you say the Niners best chances are to have a shot at post season.

#2 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan says that it’s unlikely that he will insert back up quarterback Trey Lance into the line up anytime soon because it disrupts the play calling. So his obvious choice right now is to start and finish games with Jimmy Garoppolo.

#3 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel said that 49ers back up quarterback Trey Lance being the practice squad quarterback simulating the opponents’ quarterback gives Lance an opportunity to develop many facets of the game and gives him some developmental experience.

#4 Taking a look at the 49ers injury update: Wide receiver Jauan Jennings (groin), running back Trey Sermon (ankle), linebackers Fred Warner (hamstring) and Marcell Harris (concussion) did not practice and running back JaMycal Hasty (ankle), defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (calf) had limited practice time. Joe talk about how some of these players will be missed and how some might be limited today in Seattle.

#5 The 49ers take on the Seattle Seahawks (3-8) at Lumen Field today at 1:25pm. Seattle has lost three straight games most recently last Sunday to the Washington Football Team (5-6) 17-15. The Seahawks starting quarterback Russell Wilson has been struggling getting protection, getting time to throw and just executing in the red zone. San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: Beckham and Rams heading to Santa Clara for clash with 49ers on Monday Night Football

Former Cleveland Browns wide receiver and now Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr will be making his Rams debut on Monday Night Football Nov 15 at Levis Stadium in Santa Clara (AP News file photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 The San Francisco 49ers (3-5) who have lost five of their last six games will be tested again as they face the Los Angeles Rams (7-2) on Monday Night Football. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan says the 49ers situation is a sense of urgency.

#2 The 49ers were defeated soundly in their last game by the Arizona Cardinals (8-1) 31-17 last Sunday

#3 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw 28-40, 326 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Garoppolo’s line looked good enough to win the game but the Cardinals just kept adding up the scoring and no matter what Garoppolo did the 49ers just couldn’t catch Arizona.

#4 Los Angeles Rams (7-2) wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr who joins the Rams this week will be all the rage as the Rams are rolling and with the addition of Beckham that gives the Rams just that more yards in receiving going into Monday Night’s game.

#5 Joe, set this one up the 49ers having lost five of their last six and have trouble keeping teams from scoring once in the red zone what do you expect out of the 49ers defense in stopping the Rams high potent offense going into Monday Night’s contest?

Garoppolo will be the starting quarterback for today’s game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago for week 7 (AP News photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe how important is it that San Francisco 49ers (2-4) head coach Kyle Shanahan re-evaluate the team and himself after the huge loss against the Indianapolis Colts (3-4) last week on Sunday Night Football prime time?

#2 Looking at that loss and the four straight loses of the 49ers critics are calling this a meltdown mode situation for the Niners how much can you relate to that criticism?

#3 Both the 49ers and Chicago Bears (3-4) meet up at Soldier Field this morning in Chicago both teams are noted for their physical play on both sides of the ball for defense and the running game.

#4 Joe, the 49ers will start Jimmy Garoppolo whose lost these last three starts there has been rumblings about getting Trey Lance a chance to start at quarterback. How much is today’s game considered maybe Garoppolo’s last chance as starter?

#5 In the Bears last six games they are 3-3 and are playing around .500 ball. They were absolutely crushed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday 38-3. Bears quarterback Justin Fields couldn’t convert six points whenever the offense got in the red zone going 22-32, 184 yards, and threw for three interceptions that said with the 49ers coming off four straight loses how do you see today’s match up between the Niners and Bears?
