#4 The win on Thursday night was the 49ers 13th straight regular season game, there seems like there hasn’t been any effective opponent with the exception of last year’s Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game that the 49ers have faced.

#5 The 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals on Sun Oct 1st at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara. Joe talk about how you see Purdy throwing against the Cardinals defense in this one?

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (23) runs against the Seattle Seahawks during the first half  at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara on Sat Jan 14, 2023 (AP News photo)

On the 49es podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 San Francisco 49ers (14-4) quarterback Brock Purdy had himself a playoff on Saturday against the Seattle Seahawks (9-9) throwing four touchdowns going 18-30 for a whopping 332 yards and three touchdowns for a 41-23 win does Purdy just continue to surprise and amaze?

#2 Joe, after all you have seen with Purdy in his rookie year and being the last pick of the draft people are still waiting for him to have that first rough game but that hasn’t happened yet to the joy of 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.

#3 Joe after kickoff in the first quarter it really looked like an 11 on 11 ball game as the Seahawks and 49ers played to a one point Seattle lead 17-16 after that first half. After seeing that did you think this was going to be a battle for the 49ers once the second half started?

#4 Joe, talk about the 49ers defense in the third quarter shutting out the Seahawks and holding the Seattle to just six points in the fourth quarter.

#1 San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Nick Bosa nursed his injured hamstring and missed practice and is questionable for today’s game at Levi Stadium.

#2 Receiver Deebo Samuel was trying to recover from his deep thigh bruise he did play against the Miami Dolphins last Sunday what are his chances for today?

#3 Quarterback Brock Purdy brought his A game against the Dolphins and it was good enough for a 49ers win against one of the toughest teams in the NFL. Purdy came in with swagger was pumped up on good plays for his future do you see him being a team leader and a winner?

#4 Joe, Brock looks well prepared and with Bosa in the line up today how do you see the 49ers going up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-6) without them?

#5 The Bucs quarterback Tom Brady and the offense did not score in eight series and scored twice in the next three series enough to defeat the New Orleans Saints. Which team are the Buccaneers the team that struggled to get on the scoreboard or the team that can get things done under pressure?

#2 Joe with Arik Armstead and Javon Kinlaw both remain out at defensive tackle and the Niners are looking McGill to fill the bill.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: Kittle says loss of Verrett sucks soul out of team

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Jason Verrett working out with 49ers on Jul 31, 2021. Verrett had been out of action since Sep 2021 he was scheduled to return for his first game this Sun Nov 13, 2022 until he tore his Achilles tendon in practice on Wed Nov 9, 2022 at the 49ers practice facility in Santa Clara (AP News file photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe, I guess San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle said it best on Wednesday after cornerback Jason Verrett on his Achilles tendon injury saying “It kind of sucks your soul out a little bit.”

#2 Joe, it was practice and there are different drills and different plays Verrett was working on with Verrett was trying to get into the line up and get ready for Sunday Night Football against the Los Angeles Chargers. Coach Kyle Shanahan broke the news to the team on the practice field you couldn’t hear a pin drop.

#3 Had Verrett made a comeback this Sunday it would have been his first game back since his knee injury in September 2021. Now with the Achilles tendon injury suffered this past Wednesday Verrett won’t be back until November 2023. He’s tried many times to come back but had injuries which required long recoveries.

#4 The 49ers will have to regroup as a team after the Verrett injury and hope that his absence won’t have an impact on the team’s morale going into this Sunday’s game against the Chargers.

#5 Joe, the Chargers have been playing some good football and have won four of their last five games. Their last win came against the Atlanta Falcons in a narrow 20-17 victory in Atlanta. Please size this one up as the Chargers and 49ers duel at Levi Stadium for Sunday Night Football with a 5:20pm kick off.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: Garoppolo working to be effective in areas with new QB coach Griese; plus more

Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark (right) has a good grasp on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (left) in second half action at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Sun Oct 23, 2022 (AP News photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe, 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has got himself a person coach Brian Griese a former NFL quarterback to help Garoppolo improve some of the weaknesses like his accuracy on deep passes.

#2 Garoppolo said Griese knew how to say the right things and piss off Garoppolo at times which was constructive criticism.

#3 In his nine year career this is the first time that Garoppolo has had a coach like Griese or anyone like Griese but seeing Garoppolo over the years how necessary is it that Garoppolo gets a personal coach now?

#4 Joe, one other fun fact the 49ers have had five quarterback coaches and Griese is the first 49ers quarterback coach to be hired since former 49er quarterback Matt Cavanugh was a quarterback’s coach back in 1996.

#5 49ers are coming off their last loss to the Kansas City Chiefs by a wide margin. The Los Angeles Rams have lost two of their last three games and have a long record to losing to the 49ers. With the game in the Southland today and a heavy 49ers fans presence will this be another 49ers win or will the Rams be able to establish home field advantage regardless of the 49ers crowd?

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: Injuries plague SF still favored to beat Atlanta Sunday

The Carolina Panthers wide receiver Shi Smith doesn’t normally get paid to tackle defensive players but tries in vain as the Panther quarterback Baker Mayfield lies facedown as the San Francisco 49ers cornerback Emmanuel Mosely scores after making an interception in first half action on Sun Oct 9, 2022 at Carolina. Mosely is questionable for this Sun Oct 16, 2022 in Atlanta. (AP News photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe, wanted to ask you the San Francisco 49ers (2-3) while favored to beat the Atlanta Falcons (2-3) in Atlanta the 49ers second straight week on the road. We’ll go over some of the injuries the 49ers carry coming into this game. We’ll start with defensive tackle Arik Armstead with a ankle injury.

#2 Offensive left tackle Trent Williams remains injured with that ankle injury how soon do you see him coming back and Williams no doubt is anxious to get back in the line up.

#3 Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw is out with a knee injury can the 49ers make up for his loss and talk about his absence is impacting the 49ers.

#4 Three players are in question for today’s game as well, Nick Bosa (groin), two starters defensive back Jimmie Ward (hand) and Emmanuel Mosely (ACL) some critical players how will these guys be missed and how will head coach Kyle Shanahan handle replacing them.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: Bosa could haunt Mayfield again this time in Carolina Sunday

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa jumps on the back of the Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matt Stafford at Levi Stadium on Mon Oct 3, 2022 as Bosa and the 49ers face the Carolina Panthers on Sun Oct 9, 2022 in Carolina. (AP News photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe, the last time the San Francisco 49ers Nick Bosa faced quarterback Baker Mayfield was in 2019 when he was with the Cleveland Browns and gave him a time he would never forget with five quarterback hits, two sacks, Bosa also forced Mayfield to fumble resulting in a recovery.

#2 Now in a Carolina Panthers uniform Mayfield could once again feel Bosa’s breath on his neck when scrambling to get rid of the ball. Joe is this Panther’s offensive line better than the one that tried to protect Mayfield when he was in Cleveland.

#3 Joe after four weeks of football Mayfield is now scrambling again of the top ten teams that have seen quarterback sacks surmount the Panthers have seen Mayfield sacked 11 times already in this short month of the season tying him with 8.6 sack percentage for the eighth highest.

#4 On Bosa’s side of the coin he leads the NFL going into week 5 with six sacks already and he’s getting a good read on the opposing offensive line and able to get to the quarterback. He was good in 2019 and he looks like he hasn’t lost anything off getting to sack quarterback some three years later.

#5 Niners and Panthers kick off at 1:05pm talk about how you see both teams matching up on both sides of the football this afternoon?
