Sacramento Kings podcast with Tony Renteria: What are the Kings chances without Monk and Huerter in tonight’s line up

The Sacramento Kings forward Domantas Sabonis is guarded by the Portland Trail Blazers forward Justin Minaya in first half action at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on Sun Apr 14, 2024 (AP News photo)

On the Kings podcast with Tony Renteria:

#1 The Sacramento Kings Malik Monk injury is a huge hit to the Sacramento Kings who host the Golden State Warriors tonight in an NBA Play In game tonight at Golden 1 Center. Talk about how huge of a hit it is not to have Monk in the line up tonight.

#2 The Kings are also missing Kevin Huerter and will rely heavily on DeAaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis for scoring. The Warriors have lots of experience in post season. The way it looks right now the Kings will have to depend on Fox and Sabonis and their younger players if they want to get by the Warriors.

#3 How will the Kings shutdown the Warriors offense with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Jonathan Kuminga, and Draymond Green under the basket grabbing rebounds.

#4 The Kings in their final game of the regular season on Sunday blew out the Portland Trail Blazers 121-82. Fox led with 24 points, Sabonis had 18 and Harrison Barnes with 17 points. These are the guys that the Kings will rely heavily on in the play in game against Golden State tonight.

#5 Tony so it all boils down to this game tonight at Golden 1 the Kings need to win big or go home. How do you see them matching up with the Warriors in this play in game tonight?

Sacramento Kings podcast with Tony Renteria: Kings open second half of season against Spurs Thursday at Golden 1

The Denver Nuggets forward Justin Holiday (9) holds the ball above his head and away from the Sacramento Kings guard Kevin Huerter (9) in the second half at Ball Arena on Wed Feb 14, 2024 (AP News photo)

On the Sacramento Kings podcast with Tony Renteria:

#1 When the Sacramento Kings made their visit to Denver last Wednesday Feb 14th the Denver Nuggets were three short in their line up with guards Jamal Murray (tibia inflammation) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (hamstring tendinosis). That gave the Kings a leg up going into that game.

#2 With Jamal Murray who is the Nuggets second leading scorer the Kings De’Aaron Fox had free reign leading the Kings with 30 points and eight rebounds. Domantas Sabonis’ contribution was valuable as well scoring 20 points with 13 rebounds.

#3 It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Kings in that game they had to come back to win it down 16 points in the second half and doing it against the Nuggets is none too easy but the Kings came away with a 102-98 win.

#4 The win by the Kings was their second against the Nuggets in five days they defeated the Nuggets at Golden 1 on Fri Feb 9th 135-106.

#5 The San Antonio Spurs are up next for the Kings on Thursday night at Golden 1 Center. The Spurs are dead last in the Western Conference 15th place. They have lost eight of their last ten games. It’s been a long season for their head coach Gregg Poppovich. Who to his credit has been very patient with his players and the media in post game interviews.

Sacramento Kings podcast with Tony Renteria: Kings playing well; Can they beat Lakers again?

Former Sacramento King Rudy Gay (22) of the San Antonio Spurs drives on the Kings Maurice Harkless (right) on Wed Mar 31, 2021 in San Antonio (AP News photo)

#1 The Kings (22-26) really had a great run winning five straight games until they ran into the San Antonio Spurs in their second game of the series to snap the win streak 120-106 on Wednesday night in San Antonio.

#2 The Kings struggled in the first half and that pretty much put them at a deficit, the Spurs head coach Gregg Poppovich always comes in with a game plan and worked it to avoid getting swept.

#3 The Spurs DeMar DeRozan led the Spurs in scoring with 26 points and five rebounds sometimes it’s hard to contain a player that’s making all the difference in a game. The Kings struggled to shut DeRozan down.

#4 The Kings De’Aaron Fox was Sacramento’s top scorer with 20 points, the Kings simply came up short with three players in double figures Delon Wright followed up with 16 and Buddy Hield with 14.

#5 The Kings will try and get back in the win column on Friday as they host the Los Angeles Kings at Golden One Center. The Lakers (30-18) have gone 6-6 in their last 12 games the Lakers lost to the Kings in their last meeting in a narrow game 123-120 on Mar 3rd at Golden One Center.
