Blaire Fleming former Volleyball player for the San Jose State Spartans and transgender player was outed by a former teammate. The SCOTUS will hear arguments for and against keeping transgender athletes out of college sports on women’s teams (SJSU Spartans file photo)

That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast:

#1 Amaury, the US Supreme Court heard opening statements Tuesday for and against transgender athletes whether or not to allow transgender females to be allowed to play on women’s sports teams.

#2 In 2020 the federal law prohibited discrimination employment that would stop transgender women from participating in sports based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

#3 The celebration of life was a tough one to take at the Henry J Kaiser Center in Oakland on Sunday for the late Laney College football coach John Beam. Beam shot at Laney’s fieldhouse on Nov 13 and passed away on Nov 14th., Cedric Irving Jr 27 a former Laney student charged in the murder of Beam. Beam was once a student of Beam’s.

#4 Ironically the A’s canceled the name Sacramento from their name just calling themselves Athletics for the next two seasons but the US Patents office canceled the A’s from calling themselves Las Vegas or Vegas. This could very well could force the A’s to have to rebrand their name from Athletics to some other name if they want to copyright their name for the purposes of revenue from marketing, concession, ticket, stadium rights and branding copy rights. Changing the A’s name would change the face of their history and the A’s name could be lost to baseball history.

#5 The San Francisco 49ers just hung on for a 23-19 win over the Philadelphia Eagles to advance to the next round of the playoffs in Seattle. As you might remember the 49ers lost 13-3 on Sat Jan 17th to the Seahawks at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara on the last day of the regular season. Will the 49ers take a page out of that loss to the Seahawks or will Lumin Field and the Seahawks 12th man be ready for the 49ers this Saturday in round two of the playoffs?

That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast: Raiders make revolving door at head coach firing Carroll; How 49ers will fare against Eagles Sunday; plus more news

That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast:

#1 Amaury, the Las Vegas Raiders fired their head coach Pete Carroll just after one season the Raiders finished the 2025-26 season at 3-14 and just ended a ten game losing streak after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 14-12 on Sunday. Carroll is the sixth head coach to be fired by the Raiders in as many years.

#2 The San Francisco 49ers loss last Saturday was surprising in that their offense just simply fell flat. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy who threw for five touchdown the weekend before against the Chicago Bears. Purdy didn’t throw one touchdown and struggled to get any offense off the ground in a critical game against the Seattle Seahawks.

#3 The 49ers now have a tougher task as they prepare to face the Philadelphia Eagles and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts in the first round of the NFC Playoffs next Sunday. The Eagles like the 49ers lost their last regular game to the Washington Commanders. Do you see the 49ers regrouping and making this game a lot closer on both sides of the ball Sunday?

#4 The Golden State Warriors Draymond Green who you just wrote about recently in one of your editorials was once again ejected last Saturday in his game against the Utah Jazz in a win 123 -114. Green picked up two technical fouls at 2:30 remaining in the second quarter Green argued with officials that the Jazz Kyle Filipowski should have been called for a three second violation while continuing to argue the Jazz Lauri Markkanen hit a short basket was given a technical foul and then a second technical and was ejected. Is Green so important to the team that it’s worth the sacrifice of his ejections that they’ve kept him around all this time?

#5 Turning to baseball and the Sacramento A’s. The A’s will be playing in Las Vegas for one week in June a regular season series against the Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds at their triple A affiliates’ minor league park. Will the week in Vegas give the A’s an idea who will be interested in the team in the Vegas market?

#1 David after Saturday’s 13-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks how concerned does head coach Kyle Shannahan has to be now going agianst the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the playoffs?

#2 There is no escaping that the 49ers offense was flat and that Brock Purdy didn’t get enough protection talk about the O line and some of the injuries that hampered the 49ers.

#3 Going into Philadelphia the 49ers linebacker Dee Winters (ankle) could sit out the game and Tatum Bethune (groin) will miss the game and the 49ers are looking at Eric Kendricks and Garret Wallow to replace them. It should be noted that Kendricks or Wallow were not even on the 49ers roster six weeks ago.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast Rich Perez: Eagles put it where it Hurts on Raiders; Raiders shutout 31-0, drop 8th game in a row

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (1) had his way against the Las Vegas Raiders throwing three downs and shutting out Las Vegas at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Sun Dec 14, 2025 (AP News photo)

Las Vegas Raiders podcast Rich Perez:

#1 The Philadelphia Eagles improved to 9-5 after shutting out the Las Vegas Raiders (2-12) 31-0 in Philadelphia on Sunday. It was the Raiders eighth loss in a row.

#2 The Raiders defense simply couldn’t do anything with the Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and their offense. For Hurts 12 completions in 15 attempts for 175 yards and three touchdowns.

#3 In the second half the Raiders like the first half couldn’t convert even a field goal and just couldn’t take advantage of even getting in the red zone.

#4 Raider back up quarterback Kenny Pickett struggled all afternoon throwing going 15-25 for only 64 yards one interception. Pickett try as hard as he may and filling for the injured Geno Smith was running for his life all game long.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast Rich Perez: Raiders need to rise out of the ashes if they want to beat Philadelphia

Pete Carroll head coach Las Vegas Raiders takes some hard questions from the press after the loss to the Denver Broncos on Sun Dec 7, 2025 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas (AP News photo)

Las Vegas Raiders podcast Rich Perez:

  1. Can the Raiders take advantage of the Eagles’ recent struggles and snap their seven game losing streak?
  2. Will the Eagles’ offense — led by Jalen Hurts — bounce back after their recent turnover issues?
  3. How will Philadelphia’s running game with Saquon Barkley or A.J. Dillon) fare against the Raiders’ run defense — could it become a key factor?
  4. On defense: can Eagles pass-rushers like Jalen Carter or Jordan Davis pressure the Raiders’ (possibly backup) quarterback enough to disrupt their passing game?
  5. Which of the Eagles’ wide receivers A.J. Brown or DeVonta Smith — will step up and exploit matchups in the Raiders’ secondary?

Raiders lose 24-17 to Broncos, QB Geno Smith injured

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith (7) is sacked by the Denver Broncos linebacker Nik Bonitto (middle) in the first half at Allegiant Stadium in Denver on Sun Dec 7, 2025 (AP News photo)

By Vince Cestone

(LAS VEGAS) — If it wasn’t bad enough that the Las Vegas Raiders lost to the Denver Broncos, they also lost their quarterback Geno Smith.

As the norm at the 5-year-old Las Vegas Stadium, a sea of opposing fans watched Bo Nix and the Broncos defeat the now 3-10 Raiders 24-17 at Allegiant Stadium. The Broncos quarterback passed for 212 yards, completing 31 of 38 passes, and rushed for a touchdown.

The Raiders have an inverse record to the Broncos, 2-11 and 11-2 respectively, and now lost seven games in a row. Despite the end result being a one-score game, the Broncos showed clearly that they were the better team.

In the first quarter, both teams traded blows. Nix ran 8 yards for the first touchdown, the last of 14 plays to get the score. Shortly after, Smith passed to Brock Bowers for a 15-yard touchdown.

The Broncos took the lead in the second quarter, with a 48-yard punt return by Denver’s Marvin Mims Jr. Denver added on in the third quarter, with a touchdown by running back RJ Harvey, making the score 21-7.

Kicker Wil Lutz capped the scoring for the Broncos in the fourth quarter, with a 23-yard field goal, making the score 24-7.

The Raiders would tack on a touchdown in the fourth quarter as backup QB Kenny Pickett through to Shedrick Jackson for a 25-yard touchdown. Daniel Carlson would latter add on 3 more points with a field goal, making the score 24-17.

Smith left the game in the third quarter with a shoulder injury. He has been ruled out for the next game.

Up next, the Raiders will head to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles on Sunday, Dec. 14. Game time is 10 a.m. PST.

#2 With injuries piling up across the league (the Baltimore Ravens’Chandler Martin’s season-ending ACL tear), how are team depth and roster management becoming more critical as they head into the final stretch?

#3 Kansas City Chiefs just got graded a “B” for a narrow loss — what does this signal about the sustainability of their recent playoff-level standards under pressure?

#4 Charlie, does the firing of Las Vegas Raiders assistant coach Chip Kelly really underscore head coach Pete Carroll’s goal of building up the team. Does that leave a bitter taste in Carroll’s mouth as he had no real say in Kelly’s firing? The Raiders lost another tough one again to the Los Angeles Chargers 31-14.

#5 For teams with rookie or newly returned quarterbacks such as the Cleveland Browns Shedeur Sanders, how important is coaching support and defense-driven wins in shaping their long-term future this season?

Eagles dominate Kansas City with 40-22 romp inSuper Bowl LIX

Philadelphia Eagles are swimming in victory hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX at the Superdome on Sun Feb 9, 2025 (AP News photo)

By Daniel Dullum

Sunday, February 9, 2025

Kansas City’s hopes for a third consecutive Super Bowl victory were all but dashed by a powerful first half by Philadelphia Sunday at the Superdome in New Orleans, as the NFC champion Eagles routed the AFC champion Chiefs 40-22 in SB LIX.

Jalen Hurts was selected as the game’s most valuable player. Hurts was 17 of 22 passing for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 72 yards on 11 carries – a Super Bowl record for a quarterback – and a rushing touchdown.

Hurts became the first quarterback to win a Super Bowl after losing one since Bob Griese won with Miami in 1972. DeVonta Smith was his primary target with four catches for 69 yards and a touchdown.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 21 of 32 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns, but was also sacked six times. Mahomes was also Kansas City’s leading rusher with 25 yards on four attempts. Xavier Worthy caught eight passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

This was Philadelphia’s second Super Bowl victory, the first was in 2017. The Eagles lost in 2022, 2004 and 1980. In the pre-Super Bowl era, the Eagles won NFL titles in 1948, 1949 and 1960. The Chiefs won AFL championships in 1962 (as Dallas Texans), 1966 and 1969. Kansas City won Super Bowls in 1969, 2019, 2022 and 2023, losing in 2020.

The Eagles built a 24-0 halftime lead on Hurts’ 1-yard TD run, Jake Elliott’s 48-yard field goal, Cooper DeJean’s 38-yard pick-six, and A.J. Brown’s 12-yard scoring pass from Hurts.

Philadelphia extended its lead in the third quarter to 34-0 on Elliott’s 29-yard field goal, and a 48-yard scoring strike from Hurts to Smith. Kansas City got on the board with 34 seconds left in the quarter on Worthy’s 24-yard TD pas from Mahomes.

The Eagles used two ore Elliott field goals of 43 and 50 yards to build a 40-6 lead. Kansas City found the end zone twice in the last three minutes on touchdown passes from Mahomes to DeAndre Hopkins and Worthy.

Records set in Super Bowl LIX besides Hurts’ QB rushing: Elliott kicked four field goals and four extra points for 16 kicking points, his four field goals ties a record held by three others.

The average ticket to watch in person was $7,300 (fees included) according to Stubhub. Ticketmaster had seats listed for $6,600.

Kendrick Lamar provided the halftime entertainment with a guest appearance by dancer and tennis champion Serena Williams. Jon Batiste sang the National Anthem and Lauren Diagle performed “America The Beautiful.”

Donald Trump became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl. He predicted a Chiefs victory.
