Oakland A’s podcast with Jerry Feitelberg: Who’d thunk the A’s take three out of four from Astros at Minute Maid Field?

The Oakland A’s, the hottest team in baseball, scored six unanswered runs against the World Champion Houston Astros in their own park–Minute Maid Field–after the Astros held a 4-0 lead. Down 4-0 in the top of the fifth, the A’s scored three runs and were down a run in the top of the eighth, but scored three more for the 6-4 win.

Everyone hit. The A’s Matt Chapman hit a game-tying double and Mark Canha hit a two-run single for an insurance run. The A’s Khris Davis hit a single off the Astros pitcher Chris Devenski for his 14 consecutive hit.

With all the success the A’s are having, some A’s fans have questioned why NBC Sports Bay Area are doing wall-to-wall San Francisco Giants coverage and a lot less A’s coverage. The A’s are the hottest team in the MLB, winning 19 of their last 24 games. NBC Sports Bay Area even replays entire Giants games from the previous day. A’s fans who are looking for some coverage on NBC Sports Bay Area ask, “where’s the love?”

The A’s open a three-game series in San Francisco this Friday night. The A’s will start right-hander Edwin Jackson (1-0, 2.45 ERA) and in his 16th year pitching in the big leagues. For the Giants, it’ll be Madison Bumgarner (2-3, 3.09 ERA).

The name of the game in baseball is pitching and A’s starter Frankie Montas turned in a terrific performance as he was the winning pitcher as the A’s snapped the Astro’s eight-game winning streak over Oakland. The A’s won the game 2-0 as Lou Trivino pitched two scoreless innings and closer Blake Treinen earned his 20th consecutive save and 23rd of the year.

Astros’ starter, Gerrit Cole, was also on the top of his game. The Houston ace went six innings and allowed no runs, three hits, walked three, and struck out 11. Cole threw 108 pitches.

The game was scoreless until the top of the seventh. Houston Manager A.J.Hinch brought in former Athletic Brad Peacock to face his former mates. The face first hitter he faced was Stephen Piscotty. Piscotty sent Peacock’s hanging breaking ball into the left-field seats to give the A’s a 1-0 lead. For Piscotty, it was his 10th big fly of the season, and it was the third consecutive game in which he homered.

The A’s added an insurance run in the top of the eighth. With two out, Khris Davis singled. Will Harris walked Matt Olson to advance Davis into scoring position. Hinch brought in Joe Smith to face Piscotty. Piscotty did it again as he singled to drive in Davis.

The A’s led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth. Trivino, as mentioned earlier, was brilliant as he retired the side in order in the eighth. Bob Melvin brought in Treinen to face the top of the Houston order in the ninth. Treinen gave up a leadoff single to George Springer.

Springer retired Alex Bregman for the first out and struck out reigning AL MVP Jose Altuve for the second. Josh Reddick continued to haunt his ex-teammates with a single to put the tying runs on base with two out. Treinen now had to face Evan Gattis. All Gattis has done this year is to salivate when facing A’s pitching. Gattis has pulverized the A’s, and it was nail-biting time. Had Gattis homered, it would have been a walk-off win for Houston. That did not happen as Treinen struck out Gattis to end the game.

Game Notes: The A’s are now 51-40 for the year and are 11 games over the .500 mark. Houston is now 61-32.

Frankie Montas’ line was six innings of work. He allowed no runs, three hits, walked two and struck out two and his record is now 5-2.

The A’s are now 35-0 when leading after seven and 42-0 when leading after 8. The Astros are 4-24 when trailing after 8.

The A’s have now hit 80 homers in 46 road games to lead the AL in that department.

Time of game was 2:51 and 28,301 fans were on hand to watch the A’s beat the Astros.

Up Next: The A’s play game two of the series Tuesday at 5:10 pm PDT in Minute Maid Park.  Sean Manaea will go for the A’s, and Houston’s Justin Verlander will handle the Astros’ pitching chores.

The A’s are on a roll, playing their best ball of the season at 8-2. They finished the homestand at 4-1–an improvement over some past homestands they’ve had this year. Friday night, the A’s will start Paul Blackburn (2-2, 6.46 ERA). Blackburn has struggled in some of his outings. A’s pitching coach Scott Emerson said Blackburn has improved in bullpen practices. Last Friday, Blackburn beat Cleveland, going 6.1 innings and didn’t allow a run.

A’s pitcher Edwin Jackson will get the start for Oakland on Saturday his third start of the year. Jackson is throwing well. He’s allowed two or less runs in his last two starts. The A’s are 8 1/2 games out of first place behind the Houston Astros and the Seattle Mariners, who just ended their eight-game win streak, are in second.

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr in 2016 was 12-3, but broke his leg due to a sack, and in 2017, Carr suffered three broken bones in an injury. Can Carr avoid any set backs and stay healthy and how crucial will it be for the Raiders to have Carr healthy all season?

Marshawn Lynch running back was the best offensive running back in the second half of 2018. Lynch didn’t play in 2016, but came to the Raiders in 2017 and got his old self going and could be a great threat for the Raiders this season.

Amari Cooper receiver will try for better consistency this season after having troubles on the field and with injuries. Cooper had 470 yards, 37 catches, and five touchdowns.

Khalil Mack, an edge rusher, was the NFL’s defensive player of the year in 2015. Since he stayed away from mini camp 2018, will he have the impact that’s expected of him for this season?

A’s pitcher Sean Manaea had a strong performance against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday at the Oakland Coliseum. The A’s got the 4-2 win. Manaea went seven innings, two runs, and four hits. A’s manager Bob Melvin likes what Manaea has done in the number one starting role in the rotation.

The A’s continue to roll with their eighth win out of their last nine games. The A’s have won 14 of their last 17 games. The A’s are winning games when they’re behind and A’s hitter Stephen Piscotty was clutch, hitting a two-run double to put the A’s ahead of the Padres in the eighth inning.

The A’s have the day off Thursday and head onto Progressive Field for the start of a three-game series in Cleveland. The A’s will start Paul Blackburn (2-2 ERA 6.46) against Carlos Carrasco (8-5 ERA 4.24) for Cleveland.

A’s continue to roll as they down Padres 4-2 for 2-game sweep

OAKLAND, Calif. — The A’s continue to play great baseball as they prevailed over the San Diego Padres 4-2 on the Fourth of July, Both teams played well, but in the end, the A’s were just a wee bit better.

A’s starter Sean Manaea did not figure in the decision, but had another strong pitching performance. Manaea went seven innings and allowed two runs and four hits. The Padres’ starter Luis Perdomo also pitched well. His line was 5 2/3 innings of work and he, too, allowed two runs and four hits.

The A’s won the game in the bottom of the eighth when they, as they have done so many times this season, were able to score late in the game. The A’s won for the eighth time in the last nine game and have won 14 of the last 17 as they move to a season-high nine games above the .500 mark with a record of 48-39.

The Padres scored two in the top of the second inning. Manaea issued a free pass to Hunter Renfroe. Padres’ rookie third baseman Christian Villaneuva homered to left field to give the Padres an early 2-0 lead. The A’s plated one in their half of the inning. With one out, Luis Perdomo walked Matt Olson. Right fielder Stephen Piscotty lined a ball into the gap in left-center-field to drive in Olson.

The A’s tied the game in the third. Josh Phegley walked to get things going. Dustin Fowler singled to put men on at first and second with no out. Perdomo struck out Matt Joyce for the first out. Jed Lowrie walked to load the bases. A’s DH Khris Davis followed with a solid single to left field to drive in Phegley. Matt Olson hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.

The A’s scored twice in the bottom of the eighth. Jed Lowrie received a walk that started the rally. Khris Davis doubled to left. Lowrie stopped at third. The Padres issued an intentional walk to Matt Olson to load the bases. Piscotty made the Padres pay as he hit his third double of the game to drive in Lowrie and Davis.

The Padres escaped further damage when they retired Olson at home on a force out, and Villaneuva turned a line shot off Marcus Semien’s bat into a 5-4 double play to end the inning. The A’s lead 4-2 heading into the top of the ninth. A’s closer Blake Treinen gave up a couple of hits but was able to escape without any damage and recorded his twenty-second save of the season.

Game Notes: Stephen Piscotty had three doubles in the game to tie and Oakland A’s single-game record. Treinen’s has converted each of his last 19 save opportunities dating back to May 4th. Lou Trivino was the winning pitcher, and his record is now 7-1. Jose Castillo absorbed the loss. The line score for the A’s was four runs, six hits, and no errors. The Padres’ line was two runs, seven hits, and no errors.

Khris Davis extended his hit streak to seven games, the second highest such streak of the season…is 10-for-27 (.370) during this span. • Matt Joyce snapped a five-game hitting streak. Mark Canha went hitless to end his career high 11 game hitting streak.

A’s third baseman Matt Chapman made the defensive play of the day in the sixth inning. He stabbed a Hunter Renfroe smash that looked like it was heading into the left-field corner. He dived for the ball and snared and in one motion righted himself to start a 5-4-3 double play.

Time of game was a crisp two hours and 33 minutes and 14,408 people watched as the A’s won again.

Up Next: The A’s are off on Thursday as they travel to Cleveland to face the Indians at Progressive Field starting Friday night. Paul Blackburn (2-2, ERA 6.46) will pitch for Oakland, and Cleveland will counter with righty Carlos Carrasco (8-5, ERA 4.24). The game will start at 4:10 pm PDT.

Rally caps paid off at the Oakland Coliseum on Tuesday night as the Oakland A’s got five runs in the sixth inning to beat the San Diego Padres 6-2 to start this brief two-game series. A’s pitcher Chris Bassitt didn’t pitch quite as well as he did on the last road trip (he threw a shutout), but two runs, seven hits, two runs, six hits in 4.2 innings was not a bad outing.

Jed Lowrie hit a bases loaded three-run double and picked up his 25th double of the season with 59 RBIs. Mark Canha has proven to be a tough out he’s on an 11-game hit streak and has reached base in 12 straight games.

The A’s will start pitcher Sean Manaea (8-6). The Padres have announced they’ll start Luis Perdomo (1-2).

The Golden State Warriors knew they couldn’t leave DeMarcus Cousins out all on his lonesome so Cousins made it easy for Golden State and came to them and they both came to a shocking agreement to a $5.3 million for a season. The Warriors made a move after LeBron James made signed with the Lakers over the weekend.

Kevin Durant, who has two years left on his deal with Golden State and the second year being an option year, could leave the Warriors and such a departure would be a huge impact.

Oakland A’s Baseball Company: The A’s open a two-game homestand tonight against the San Diego Padres after coming off a 15-3 loss to Cleveland Sunday after ending a six game win streak. During the streak A’s reliever Blake Treinen who has 21 saves so far this season.

It’ll be the Padres Clayton Richard 7-7 ERA 4.29 and for the A’s starter Chris Bassitt gets the call 1-3 ERA 2.82 for tonight at the Coliseum.

OAKLAND — At the Club Entrance of the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame has a mural for all fans to enjoy. The mural celebrates the 20th anniversary of the founding of the museum. In 1998 Mr. Gabriel “Tito” Avila Jr. founded the museum as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and since then, it has been traveling all across the country with exhibits at museums, Fanfest, All-Star Games and all kinds of baseball celebrations, including inductions in Major League parks of Hispanic players of all 30 teams.

“The Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame thanks Mr.Dave Kaval, President of the Oakland Athletics, for welcoming us and giving us access so this Mural can be enjoyed by thousands of baseball fans” said Avila Jr.

The colorful mural is at the Club Level entrance of the Oakland Coliseum, home of the Oakland Athletics, inside the park. The concept of the mural was captured and put into Dagoberto Blanco “Campy” Campaneris, who is arguably the best shortstop in A’s history. One of the stars during the three of the four World Series championships of the A’s in 1972, 1973 and 1974. He is one of those players the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame has honored and inducted.

The museum’s main goal is to have its permanent location here in the Bay Area, one of most culturally diverse areas in the country. As of 2018, Latino/Hispanic players in the MLB make up around 30% of all players. The main baseball countries in Latin America are Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Cuba, Puerto Rico, México, Panamá, Nicaragua, Colombia, Curazao,and there are also players from Brazil, like Yan Gomes of the Cleveland Indians.

The popularity of baseball has grown in the past decades to the point that Major League games have been played in México and Puerto Rico, Japan. Next year, the Yankees and Red Sox will play in London, England. For the first time, MLB games will be played in Europe. Baseball has become much more international and the museum specially honors the contribution of Hispanic players to the game. The Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame wants to thank Mauricio Segura, owner of Golden Bay Magazine, for bringing our concept of this mural to life. The first 20 years the museum became well-known and received recognition from commissioner Bud Selig, and the current commissioner Rob Manfred.

The A’s and the Mariners will open the 2019 season in Japan.

Will the A’s shop third baseman Jed Lowrie, outfielder Khris Davis, or catcher Jonathan Lucroy before the trade deadline? The A’s are rolling. They’ve won four straight in a sweep over the Detroit Tigers. Although, they’re 10.5 games out. They’re just seven games back for a wild card berth.

A’s starter Sean Manaea had a good outing on Thursday, going six innings, five hits, two runs, one walk and two strikeouts. Although, pitcher Paul Blackburn had a rough outing in his last pitching appearance in Chicago, A’s pitching coach Scott Emerson likes what he can do. He saw him throwing his best stuff in the bullpen and he’ll get another start against Cleveland tonight at the Coliseum.
